Retention - How is the Standalone going to achieve what the mod could not?

so the main question or at least the direction of the conversation is long term shelter . interestingly tents were never used as shelter , more of a chest . i know you know this already . so the first question is : will we at some point be required to utilize shelter ? if the answer is "yes" this opens up the debate of how much & how complex a system will best suit the flow of game play & game stability . if the answer is "no" base building might be more finite . obviously up to the dev's discretion . if i remember correctly Dean had mentioned underground bunkers or instances . i thought this was an attempt to force a degree of community within game . in any case iv always been fond of barricading preexisting buildings & less attracted to full on fort construction . in any case my primary concern as im confident the dev's is , is stability ! i am grateful this seems to be Dean's primary focus & commend him for this . -

you know a certain percentage of players will try & destroy anything you build , & im not talking about ur thread ! its the Govna syndrome . im sure somewhere down the line there will be some sort of farming mechanic . your just trying to gauge the complexity of it . so flesh out your ideas in a game flow frame of mind & articulate the risk vs. reward . -
stagnant water ( pond or lake water ) is considered unclean & to be avoided unless fresh runoff from snow pack . streams & rivers ( or moving water ) is much safer , but should still be filtered or cleaned as the probability that something has died or defecated further upstream is considerable , contaminating the water .

Iv been having this problem also , some times its more frequent & ""seams"" to happen more when im with a group . thought it might be my hardware but sounds like not . all recently too past week or so .

shart the bed hes got a point .. & only feasible with some sort home / base system . not a prob in your own personal underground bunker ! even accelerated farming time of like 72 hours is pushing it , less the concept is to be able to grow anywhere in "any" of the already available fields ? plant your stuff & come back in a week to check up on it . -
I am unaware of specific limitations to the arma engine or game architecture , but have a rough understanding of game theory . i am most excited about Deans mine remarks regarding a stable architectural foundation . We should all thank him if not for this one virtue . [ SUGGESTIONS ] from a slightly deranged psychopath + animals & hunting + hand to hand + items & weapons + DayZ easy living + environment & sound + traps + cading (force multipliers) + *extra thoughts a quick rundown of assembly adequate animals completing a food chain secret . 1. ANIMALS & HUNTING habitats & territories northern / interior / inland / coast deer , elk , bear , boar , wolf , dog , rabbit , pheasant , cow-bell , goat , chicken , horse + wild ? *freshwater fish & *sea fish *UP NORTH - deer , elk , bear , pheasant *INTERIOR - deer , boar , wolf , rabbits *INLAND - rabbit , dog , (cow , goat , chicken - or around farms) *COAST - rabbit , dog , sea fish , ponds & streams - *freshwater fish moving water should be cleaner than stagnant water (unless contaminated upstream)(same gos for carcass in/on pond) actions 1 - wonder / search , eat , drink , hunt , sleep actions 2 - alert scan / stalk , stand ground , attack (or) retreat . tracks , trails , feeding grounds , watering holes , bedding areas = times & routs roaming territory / hunting territory = maximum distance from bedding area / pack or heard animal sign = poop* flys / carcass (carcass dragged away leaves blood trail) blood trails / tracking wounded players or animals / tracking players empty food cans wind direction = direction sent travails wild dog / dog's = roam innercity & out skirts (just as hungry as you) praying on the weak & sick . wolves = howling in the night / echoing threw the city / glowing eyes flickering in the shadow of the moon . or on the mountain ridge / shadows in the tree line / stalking players :: ground bound snipers !! hunt more at night . owls hooting at night (AMBIENT SOUND) animal parts = meat , hide , bone & "gland's" ( urine or lures ) "which ever you prefer" act as attractants & deterrents = lures , baits , scents lures - can be bottled & used for : attracting same species attracting natural predators repealing other animals & predators used on person or surrounding area (depending on what ur looking to accomplish) obtained after a fresh kill or sedated animal stored in spray or squirt bottles bait - is another attractant : human food natural foods = nuts & bears , fruit , wild flowers , carcass , fish natural foods & traps should be cleaned of all human scent & keep handling with bare hands to a minimum ! animal calls = item scents - or fear eliminators : masking human odors making animals less suspicious of danger (or tracking you !) consist of (but not limited to) earth Scent's *like dirt , pine , cedar, or even crushed nuts etc. masking foreign odors like petroleum based products ie. gun oil . for game flow . all animals should always be respected & only dispatched in self defense or for food !!! humans possess the capability to "know better" therefore revoke all previously stated rights of compassion !!! zombies on the other hand are already dead & are only present for my ax dismembering amusement !!! some if not most all humans will unwittingly & inevitably fall into my later category of zombie as my patience for them has an extremely low threshold , in this all feelings of remorse or regret will subsequently pass with the bite of a chewy cookie & the hopeful thoughts of " maybe ill like the next one more !" nope these cookies taste like crap. moving on ! 2. HAND 2 HAND RIDDICK GAMES PC H2H system ! dislike saying "make this game like that game !" with this concept will loos 'RM' zoom feature in fighting stance !!! not with "2 handed weapons" ( Left Mouse = left fist )( Right Mouse = Right fist ) will stop moving to punch / swing / slash W,A,S,D, Q & E + LM & RM = direction of (left / right) attack or block & dodge W + LM or RM = forward thrust (from left or right hand) A + LM or RM = left hook - hack / slash (from left or right hand) D + LM or RM = right hook - hack / slash (from left or right hand) S + LM or RM = *(ether front block or upward attack) = uppercut / upward slash Q & E = left dodge / right dodge Q & E + LM & RM = block left & block right LM & RM + W = PUSH (down stairs , out window , over edge) also work with crouching & attacking or use crouching to lunge in conjunction with a 3rd button (presumably a sprint key) can be used to grapple players or zombies head lock from behind - to choke hold = unconscious = space bar to struggle & brake free throws / submissions & disarming or knock weapon from hand / strangulation , just to get hands on ! BEING ABLE TO GRAPPLE WITH ONE HAND & STAB WITH THE OTHER grappling the barrel of a rifle or shoulder of an ax with 1 hand to strike with the other . kicking ???? interesting but might be overkill even for me ! *just trying to pose the idea if there interested theyll look in to it & structure it to best fit game flow . fingers crossed !!! also hope this will not deter the abundance of firearms & AMA , just a fight chance . 3. *ITEMS & WEAPONS CCW holsters ! concealed carry holsters = weapon undershirt on belt with new slot on paints knife sheath = weapon on belt with new slot on paints ( machete / bowie knife ) dont know anyone but ninjas that put those things on their backs ! need sling to shoulder rifle & ax = rope or long cloth ALSO VS DISARMING ? /// PISTOL LANYARDS must be unconscious to disarm with sling ? // longer time to transition 2 shouldered weapons take down M4 rifles to stow in backpack = less space - upper assembly & lower assembly quick take down pins / different uppers - calibers ( .50 beowulf & 7.62x39 fit in standard M4 bata mags ) but need different upper receivers = barrel & bolt carer bike chain = lock - bike / fence - gate (door - with mod) also used to attack "like a lock in a sock" ! signaling mirror = mainly for when helicopters are introduced (if) whistle = zombie agro ? bandits have you pined in a building ? call in reinforcements. meh sounded better in my head bean can pot - for cooking multi tool = basic mechanical work / weapon cleaning fire steel = lasts longer than a lighter but must have kindling trash bag = week improvised pack / same as burlap minus rope & durability (hang from pack) book = kindling (EXCLUDING THE BIBLE PLEAS OR ANY OTHER RELIGIOUS TEXT) books in game - are the game manual = new features or mechanics can be introduced & explained in "in game books" 1x2 pouch - in pack or on belt holding 4 to 6 1x1 smaller items .or wrapped in a rag . IR - infrared = headlights / wep light / head lamp cooking = stews // (tea vs. sick) know they touched on this already paint ball guns / mace / spray paint = zombies eyes = blind / drivers windshield (oh yeah 3rd person pouf*) fly paper - you know why ! chloroform + rag = unconscious therefor willing participant (just going to put you in a sack & beat you like a sack of potatoes) thats all ... dog-toy's - squeaky squeaky / wind up toys / cymbal clapping monkey toy >in< old house sling shot - to orientate zombies attention hard knuckle gloves duck tape & shoo goo = to repair worn boots dentist kit - its a game , its not like your going to feel it ? an over abundance of useful crap will help you decide what to carry "i prefer duck tape & kerosene " 4. *DAY Z EASY LIVING guitar / harmonica / flute / violin / banjo ! shooting practice = setting up cans , bottles , fruit (on - fence , ledge , hill mound) skeet launcher = shooting clays / throwing clays for your buddy dart board / knife throwing board ? PLEAS ! horse shoes / frisbee boxing gloves (was suggested in dev vid) along with brace knuckles drinking games 'cards cow tipping - zombie tipping =) / zombie riding =) / zombie head collecting =) zombie tag = sneak up behind ,jump in front ,bitch slap face / pistol whip "you have acquired the jogging buddy perk" FOR THIS TO BE FUN THE SAID ZOMBIE SHOULD "ACT / RESPOND" ACCORDINGLY ! no grabby staby ? yeah . did not intend to suggest a bunch of combo or complex moves or anything or have that one part in caps , but a foundation of small moves that can be utilized for pure unarmed combat . also giving an unarmed person a chance against an armed assailant at close range or close quarters . thanks for the reply

i like the stacking of small items but think they may be trying to represent value = size . the more valuable an item the more space it takes up ? a cooker is not valuable yet ! as well , be nice to break down the M4 for storage between upper & lower assemblies to take up less space . a time constraint should be implemented to assemble it & brake it down .... even tho its only 2 pins ? ..... quick take down pins , might as well throw a beowulf upper on that thing .50 is so sexy !! -

very nice ! i had a similar idea iv been trying to prepare . more in the area of zoning wildlife habitats & territories . smaller game ( along with farm animals ) would reside closer around the cost whilst larger game reside more north . and predators in the interior , making travel back & forth between inland & north more treacherous , as well as sniper control . so next time you see a small pack of wolves off in the distance think twice before killing them , they might be stalking the sniper waiting for you around the next clearing . ill post full concept when its organized . im just glad Deen is adamant about the hunting aspects . but i do very much like the concept of food being more scarce up north ! it is supposed to be the "wilderness" right . good pic too . -
i like the idea of cading like in Zombie Panic , or a simpler version of it anyway , but the only problem i see is if you bord up a house whats to keep someone from sever hoping to get inside ? would love to have moveable furniture & barricading but with the ability to jump from serv to serv thered have to be some sort of mechanic to claim an area or building & spawn the unwelcome player outside of it ???? meh just my 2 cents , but i do hope for the ability to fortify a pre existing building & call it home .. with a little white picket fence wrapped in barbed wire .. & a red bow . trespassers will be shot , survivors will be shot again & eaten .. with a smooth honey mustard glaze .

yep it happens , yep they know , yep they know we know that they know ...... we know .. yeah know . shart the bed what was i saying . Ho yah lets try & come up with ideas on how the issue might be resolved to better the community as a whole . thats the best part of being part of an alpha we may come up with solutions the Dev's might miss. as far as i can tell it is sort of complex in the sense you try & " minimize " hindering the player ( exploiter or not ) through deterrents , as opposed to NO YOU CANT DO THAT ! just a quick thought vs. gosting .1 log out of .A .2 log in to .B , .C , or .D in a 15 min span & .3 trying to log back in to .A will result in a 5 min cool down before getting back into .A this is only a quick thought vs. gosting & after typing this up am already seeing problems . aswell as not having the technical understanding if its even probable . -

i love taking zombies for a brisk jog across a steep tree line , i actually had 1 zombie chasing me for so long he started coiffing & wezing just before he dropped dead '' from running i guess , i dont know if thats even possible but i thought it was funny as hell / i would brake off and circle him every so often to re agro him. 'he was my friend' ! it seams at the moment there "direct line of sight" is very narrow but fare , just have to keep a close eye on your surroundings , & find the most optimal approach to were it is your trying to go . if you can run in yah might be able to sneak out . might . also seams i did not know encumbrance is in the game / was geting hit wile running ' of course i was trailing behind my friends running throw there fallowing horde to tho . had : Alice pack 8 steaks / 3 STANAG mags / on person : 1 M4A1 CCO SD / 4 STANAG mags SD 1 m1911 Kimber C II w/ w/ w/ & w/ / 5 Wilson combat 10 rd .45 ACP mags aka. " the bureaucrat " ...oh thatss that other game .. ish. all green stats / double tap / stow prim ya-ta-ya-ta ... i was running slow as hell ... but im alive ....... for now ... Feeding ..... -

maybe sticking with your idea , the " identification item " can be small & non-obstructive to other optional clothing . and to display the " identifying item " should be optional since its awarded by your actions ie. some one that mostly repairs cars (a mechanic) can <not> display (a bandits) " identifying " item . meaning if you were "a mechanic" & <became> "a bandit" 1 would loss the "mechanic id" & acquire "a bandit id" . you would have to come up with something for each 'identifiable action' in the game & give player choice to dawn that "item" awarded by actions . equippable / un-equippable in inventory . at some point in the game you will always have some sort of "id item" you can chose to display but actions will dictate witch "id item" that is . neutral = no id. medic = red cross arm band mechanic = head bandanna bandit = ski mask / balaclava driver / pilot = shades // top gun ish. sniper = Bonnie hat zombie slayer = hunter = hero // higher humanity over rest of above states = [ BazBake's cowboy hat idea ] hate to isolate each to the head but was all i could come up with 3:30 sounds like this is already in the works "i did not do a fallow up" no names , no groups , no classes
