  1. Anyone have any idea what could be causing the desync I get? This has been a problem for me as long as I've played DayZ. It doesn't seem to be anything to do with lag as one of the servers I like to play on is very low ping and gives me no noticeable lag. Yet pretty much all the time on certain servers, I seem to get a strange desync with the server. Meanwhile on other servers I get no problems at all. Most of the time when I get the Desync, it results in Zombies totally ignoring the fact that I'm there. It means I can actively run around with little regard to the zeds and often even shoot my gun with out having them respond. Of course that's a pretty nice option to enjoy, but the down side is I usually get no loot spawns while this is happening. Other times everything is just very slow. Sometimes I might enter a town and have the zeds show up 2 or 3 mins after I've already been there, same with loot. Meanwhile it's not like I'm getting any lag when picking stuff up or in combat.

desync on some servers but not others

Na this server reboots every 3 hours and I can often get the desync just a short time after the reboot.

    Did Namalsk get it right?

I haven't played Dayz for a while, the hackers took their toll on me, but I decided to play a bit on Sunday and jumped on a Namalsk map server for the first time. While of course the map wasn't created just for DayZ (at least I assume it wasn't) it almost seems like it's a better fit for what I expect out of DayZ. * Survival is the number one key element due to the terrain and lack of supplies. If you haven't played this map, it's a very cold climate and there is very little food & drink to be found in form of Beans & Cokes as example. This means you pretty much have to keep as many heat packs as you can carry. It also means you have to carry a canteen & depend on water locations and hunt for your food. Added to this, things like backpacks seem to be hard to come by which compounds the problem of making it hard to survive the cold & lack of easy to find food & water. I might of just been unlucky, but I was only able to find the very small vest backpack & assault back packs and out of all the players I encountered I saw only one guy with a Czech Backpack. Meanwhile guns were plentiful and ammo was pretty easy to come by which created pretty interesting encounters with other players because it was harder for people to pick on new spawns due to the ability to get a good gun pretty quick. Yet with the lack of not being able to find higher end back packs, you had to make the choice if you want to carry one all around gun or sacrifice valuable heatpack space to carry a specialty gun & ammo. The map is not perfect, but IMO it's just the right size as it's small enough to create lots of interaction with other players but survival loot spawns are fewer and further between. When I play other maps I usually don't think too much of shooting another player. On Namalsk, due to the cold weather and not being able to aim well while shaking, I found my self being more careful about getting into random firefights because I had to debate if it was worth using a heatpack to warm my self up in order to aim well or just avoid contact with the other player all together. This sort of created a risk vs reward aspect. After playing this map, it kind of makes me think this is the direction DayZ should take.. Less survival loot and a colder climate really seemed to make for a more interesting challenge.
  4. Why is it we have Lee Enfield's & Winchester Rifles but we have no Mosin Nagant or no k98 Mauser Rifles? Not to mention even SKS's. This mod/game could really use a bit more love on the bolt action rifles and Mosin Nagant's & SKS's should be quite a bit easier to find in an ex soviet block country than a lee enfield. Granted a SKS isn't a bolt action , but it is a surplus gun all the same and there should literally be thousands of these guns floating around an ex soviet block country. I mean they are pretty damn common here in the US as imported surplus guns. Just a thought...
  5. crockett (DayZ)

Something that has always bugged me..Mosin Nagant !

Well the guns I mention are not high tech mil weapons at least not in the current era. The guns I mentioned with exception of the SKS were used in WW2, but all the soviet block countries and even non soviet block countries had stock piles of thousands upon thousands of these guns and their ammo. These guns were extremely cheap to mass produce and as a result, they were mass produced by large amounts and and stockpiled as a simple weapon system that could be easily used by presents & farmers until the AK47 became cheap enough to take their place and nations had standing armies. Even today you can go to just about any gun show in the US and buy a Mosin Nagant for about $100 US dollars. Their prices are starting to creep up today, so where a few years ago they might of cost about $80, where as today maybe closer to $120 but that is extremely cheap for a military grade large cal rifle. IE it means they should still be very easy to find else where such as Chernos..
  6. It seems every time I get well kitted up on this private server or that one, the server either gets wiped, changes to a different map out just goes offline never to be seen again. It's kinda ironic, the reason I first switched to private severs was to avoid hackers because it had become a waste of time trying to get any decent gear just to lose it. Now it seems the last 3 servers I've tried to gear up have either gone off line or switched to a different map. For a long time I didn't even bother trying to kit up.. I just ran around til I found an enfield or some AK/M16 variant and started shooting people til I died. I just played Cherno champion or what ever city was popular at the time. The last 2 weeks I've "tried" to get back to actually "playing" DayZ as something other than a death match only to waste my time building up my kit because each of the 3 attempts I made I lost my kits not to death but to server gremlins.. <_<
  7. crockett (DayZ)

The most annoying thing about private servers..

Normally I stick to well known server groups but Celle for example, doesn't have many good servers with much numbers in the late US TZ. Right now there are only 4 servers that have more than 10 players.
  8. crockett (DayZ)

first and last time playing Celle

I've only spawned 2 times as I only died once so far but I didn't have any issues like the OP. First spawn was in Wienhausen & second spawn was in Winsen. I've actually been knocked down to under 3k blood and passing out 3 times on my second attempt at the map 2 times from random fire fights once because I got knocked out by a zed. So far I'm enjoying the map, I think once you figure out your directions it's pretty enjoyable and loads of cover in the forests. The maps gives you the feeling you could get lost easily.

Chernarus isn't really any more long term survival IMHO. You can't really set up camps as they are just way too easy to find and vehicles are pretty much going to be found with-in a day on a busy server. Meaning just because it's 'bigger' doesn't mean there is any real long term survival ability out side of just being more spread out across the map (assuming you aren't on the coasts). The entire time I've played on Cherno I've managed to have only one location that I was routinely able to place a tent that was never found/looted. This means you pretty much just have to run with what you can carry. Out side of a few random spots that most know about there is no real way to hide a camp much less secure a base, meaning it's really no different than Namalsk in that matter. Now I've been playing Celle the last day or two and I think it fits the bill much better than Cherno does for being able to create camps and so forth. The forests are done extremely well with thicker underbrush & trees at the edges while thinning out in the centers which is very realistic. (well for a vid game) Rockett should really take a look at that map and rework Cherno's forest areas to be more in line with how they did it in Cello.

    Did Namalsk get it right?

I've played all over that map and had camps in the north as well as other areas. After awhile it's just pretty boring as there tends to be little interaction with other players out side of random snipers here or there, so the game becomes nothing more than farming gear..
  11. crockett (DayZ)

    Did Namalsk get it right?

Then you shouldn't talk to Rocket as even he has said this and he's the guy that made the mod. They are technically not zombies but rather infected people or what ever he called them and they were meant to die off leaving the survivors alone over time. (ie the game is about surviving and pvp)
  12. crockett (DayZ)

    Did Namalsk get it right?

Yes but by random chance of loot spawn it works out very well for creating a more interesting feel.

    Did Namalsk get it right?

Well this mod was designed as a PVP mod zombies are just the backdrop. If it were just a survival mod it would be coop like Left 4 Dead & not a sand box. This means the things that have the ability to force player interaction in any form other than run & gun is by limiting & controlling where the spawns are as well as the terrain and in this case the weather. What I think a lot of people over look is simply the terrain of Namalsk. It is very hilly with loads of places to use the terrain for cover even if you are relativity out in the open. Added to this is the differences in coverage being snow on some spots & forest in others, means no single clothing type has an advantage over another everywhere. The map isn't perfect and could maybe be a bit bigger but the point I was getting at is I think it's the right direction as there is a bit more of a survival feeling to it than with Chernos where I don't even care if I have a canteen or food on me because I can find it easily in 5 mins. Chernos IMO is just way too big. Once you get out side of the big cities, it's rare to run across another player and they can in most cases easily be avoided by watching for zed spawns at the hot spots. When I play Chernos I have very little reason to want to go anywhere other than one of the big cities.

    Did Namalsk get it right?

The problem I have with Cherno is it's just too run & gunny and there is no real sense that you are trying to survive vs just playing any other FPS. There is little reason to go anywhere but the big cities because you can find everything you need and if you are looking for combat that's the most active places to be.

    Did Namalsk get it right?

Well a heat pack in real life isn't going to heat up your entire body. They are meant to be applied to certain areas, to say warm up your hands for instance or maybe place it inside a jacket. With that in mind they seem to work as I'd expect them. But yes I agree with the shaking changing the focus. Yesterday I found a Kobra & a DMR which is a pretty good combo and I had an assault pack, which allowed me to carry both guns. The thing was in one situation for instance I came across two players that on any other map I could have easily taken out with the DMR. I had to choose not to take the shots though and let them live because I only had one heat pack and if I got into a firefight I wasn't in control of the heat pack would be needed. This IMO is really what changes the play style on this map and makes you think a bit more before randomly attacking someone, making it more focused on tactical survival than just random run & gun.

Why are zombie movies always set 1980s onwards?

Exit Humanity was released in 2011.. It's a lower budget film, but was made rather well. It's a zombie movie from the 1800's time setting is almost immediately after the American Civil War. Trailer IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1781812/ It's on Netflix streaming btw, that's where I watched it.
  17. For those that can't afford a dime, a penny works just as good, it's what I've always used..
  18. You understand this is a PVP game right? Players kill other players for the fun of it and the game was designed to allow this, so there isn't a need to "combat" it. You simply need to play smarter if you don't want to get killed by another player.

    can´t we get a little 1.7.3 teaser please ? :(

The mod is fine out side of the cheaters. Most of us can live with the bugs as many of us understand most of the bugs stem from ARMA II & not the DayZ mod. The cheating on the other hand is what has made my friends stop playing as well as making myself play less & less. Personally I could happily wait as the mod sits right now with many of the fixes the community has done, but the damn cheating even on private hives just kills it. :(

    Define a bandit

Why is it people always try to claim playing as a carebear or playing as some romance novel bandit/pirate somehow makes them "smarter" or better, than a guy whom KOS? They always then try to claim you must be 12 years old or a COD player because you killed them. I hate to break it to you, but taking unnecessary risk does not make you smarter, it just makes you more caring.. After letting guys go whom come back to shoot me in the back.. I don't care so much if they live or die. In fact I prefer they die as it means they will be less likely to cause me problems once I find the next target. Besides that my main focus in this game is hunting other players and I'm sorry but I usually don't practice catch & release.

    Define a bandit

You live in a land of fairies & unicorns.. When I used to play EVE Online we used to get the same sort of fairy tale theories about pirates as well from the carebears there. At least in EVE-O there was a reason not to kill because you could actually ransom them for their ship or in game currency and you could also hold them in place while you did it. (granted almost no one paid ransoms anyway so they would end up getting killed most of the time anyway) With DayZ, it matters little if you kill someone while being a bandit and to be perfectly honest you are likely much better off to kill your target. There is no currency in DayZ so no way to ransom for cash and there is no way for me to check any of your gear outside what is in your back pack while you are still alive. Simply put if a bandit is after gear, it's much smarter to just kill the target as that way there is zero chance he's hiding his NV goggles, Rangefinder or GPS from you. Much less a mountain dew. Not to mention there is nothing you can do in DayZ to detain someone with out risking the chance that they might try to make a run for it and actually get away. A smart bandit practices KOS and doesn't listen to fairy tale stories from forum posters.
  22. Lights make no sense in DayZ.. Who is running the power plants and who turns the lights on , in all these houses. Helis make no sense either as no way could anyone keep them running & keep them fueled.

Will the game eventually become a zombie survival game?

The problem with what you describe is that it seems you want a COOP game where it's players vs environment, (PVE) but the reality is DayZ is not a PVE game, it's a Player vs Player (PVP) game with Zombie Apocalypse as the backdrop. It's not qa survival simulator or Left for Dead.. It's player vs player with zombies to annoy you. Now you can choose how you want to accept the challenge of PVP, but not everyone has to play the same way, hence it being a sandbox.
  24. crockett (DayZ)

Will the game eventually become a zombie survival game?

While you might say you can get random PVP from any other game it really just depends how you do it because DayZ is still different from random FPS games. Number one the map is very large which limits the interaction with other players. If you are off in a distant area it's often an actual surprise when you come across another player being the world is open and not set up to funnel players anywhere. This in turn allows you to actually "hunt" other players like a sport. Once you start hunting players for sport the PVP is much more challenging than just running around wildly & or sniping from safety. Personally I tend to mix it up a bit, I hunt players for sport, but I do it in a sort of run & gun way. I gear up with what ever I can find and soon as I have a weapon the hunt is on and the weapon I have determines the tactics I use. I tend to call it cherno champion even though I'm usually not in cherno lol. The zombie simulation part is just kinda on hold IMO due to all the hackers. It's just a wasted effort to worry about gearing up just to get killed by a kid with a script.
  25. crockett (DayZ)

Why don't people put tents on top of map?

scripters don't need to find your tents, they can wipe the entire server of all the tents with the right script, much the same as telporting & dropping players from the sky. They don't need your loot anyway because most of them can spawn pretty much anything they want. I used to have a tent up north that went over a month with out being raided, but in the end I got tired of running that far to gear up when I died. Added to this it made me want to stay near my tent which caused me to not get as much PVP due to the area. Now I usually just play cherno champion and typically just run with what ever guns & gear I can find on the fly or loot off someone I kill. The zombie survival part of this game is pointless until the script kiddies are put in check, so I just focus on PVP now and really a tent way up north is useless for that.
