I appreciate that. I saw the message that says that when you die, but I don't know what button goes to the "Player Selection". Know what key to press to get to that? Hitting "P" just seems to bring up a list of players and the "FKeys" don't seem to do much either.

This brings up a good question to me. How the hell can see another players Name? Am I missing it when targeting them or something? Everytime I do run into a friendly they know my name ut I don't know theirs.

Ok, I need a list of southern US Servers that a newby can try out. There's one hosted by "Charlie" I go to, and another hosted by a clan or something called "eX Syndicate" that's alright. Aside from those two though I'm not finding that many servers I like. They either have a decent ping but no people or I find what I think is a decent one and hackers start attacking and I can't tell if it's a hacker or if that's the way the server admin has it set up on purpose. I also wouldn't mind a server that has some decent people to play with. I don't always shoot on sight. 99% of the time I'll ask "friendly?" before I open fire. Hook a dude up. Thanks

Indeed. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but being a guy in RL I'd just rather play as a guy in whatever game I'm playing too. I have a wife and access to all kinds of adult stuff since I'm 34. If I want to look at a chick I'll look at the real thing. Playing as a girl just makes me feel like a cross-dresser. Also I'm used to the old WoW scam of guys pretending to be chicks to get free stuff/loot off other stupid guys....lol.

Had some crazy shit go on in a game I was playing today. Everyone on the server got teleported to a field and a dude with a machine gun started mowing everyone down. I laid down flat and he somehow missed me. After he was done I started looting some of the dead people. first time I had a map and compass at the same time. I made it out of that mess alive and wandered off into the woods. I stayed logged in that game for another 20 minutes or so. Then left that server and went to my normal server but when I got there everything I picked up off the dead people from the hacker killing spree was gone.

Oddly enough I run into tons of girl characters in game but as soon as they start chatting in game it's a guy lol.

So after a whole day of playing I found some things out that aren't really easy to pick up on. The Inventory System in this game, well, honestly...it kinda sucks. As such there are some bugs out there people should know about, especially Day 1 noobs like yours truly. Giving Stuff to Friends: First, things tend to disappear. Last night I met a new friend and was trying to help him out by putting some stuff in his backpack. I managed to target and open his backpack but everything I tried to put in it disappeared from my pack but never made it into his pack. We tried looking on the ground (there was a pile of dead zeds there) but we couldn't find any of the stuff I tried to give him (bandages and food). New Backpacks: When you find a new backpack you can pick it up and use it. I clicked and clicked and no matter what I tried to hit I couldn't pick the damn thing up. Then by accident I hit the select key (I re-mapped it to wheel up on my mouse) and a hand appeared giving me the option to either open the pack or pick it up. By doing this I was finally able to pick it up and use it. You have to open the pack to put things in it which should be common sense, but, it's not quite that easy because you have to transfer stuff to it. (explanation next) Transfering Stuff To Your Pack: I've found the best way to do this is to put the stuff you want to put in your pack on the ground first. Then target the pile of stuff, open inventory, open backpack, then pick up the stuff you dropped on the ground and put it from the ground into your backpack. The only other way is to have enough space on you to put it in your inventory and from there into your pack, but, you have to be carrying almost nothing to do this. Also be weary because sometimes dropping stuff on the ground makes what-ever you dropped disappear. Closing Statement: Overall I would say the inventory system seems to be buggy as hell. The interface could use some work to be a little more user-friendly. With a little time studying the controls you should be able to get the hang of it like I am (though I'm still learning). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Slightly Off Topic Statement on making New Friends: Out of the few people I met last night most of them were cool. They didn't shoot me on sight and I didn't shoot them. I had a run-in with some hackers who teleported me around and then waited a bit before they killed me. For the most part though the few fellow noobs like my-self I ran into were just trying to get a handle on things and stay alive. Keep that in mind as you play. Not everyone is out to gank noobs on sight for a few laughs. I hope the info on Inventory helps a few people out. Happy Hunting ~ RavenX

Good advice. Much appreciated. Indeed. It's easier for me to just find a safe place and hit "esc" and look at the command list. For some reason every time I minimize DayZ it knocks out my sound and I have to log off and back on.

How do you avoid it when messing with your inventory?

If it was "failing" there wouldn't be 3 pages of replies in an hour like there is.

The Teleported Buss Tour: So here I was scrounging in a barn and I found a cross-bow. Then in run two girls (who are both guys) trailing a bunch of zeds. I was thinking I was about to get wasted but they turned out to be cool and helped me out. The three of us were wandering when suddenly I was teleported away from my new friends and I was standing in a church with 3 guns pointed at me. I laughed because it was funny and I expected once again to be killed, or at the very least robbed. These hackers took pity on me and I tagged along with them for a minute and the next thing I knew there was a buss. These people piled on the buss so I did the same. They took me for a ride. When they stopped everyone got off the buss. I got off the buss. They killed some guy who was with us. I went to pick up his gun and they killed me.

Shop around for your parts. I like NewEgg.com and sometimes I go to a small computer repair shop here in town and order through them. I spend so much through them every couple of years that they give me a vendor discount. Also look into parts straight from the manufacturer. Every time I've boughten a NVidia card it's come with a Lifetime warranty straight from the company. Most stores will dick you around if a part goes bad and it's after the store warranty date has passed, because they don't tell the customer they in fact have a Lifetime warranty and they're only paying shipping and handling. Also you might be able to get two 1 terabyte drives cheaper than you can get one 2 terabyte drive. Put the rig together your-self as well, which will save you a ton and better familiarize you with the workings of your PC if you don't already know how one works and is put together. Over the years doing most of my tech work my-self I've saved a ton of money over buying a factory made system or having a specialty shop do the work for me.

I did a Lot of research into DayZ before I bought Arma2 so I could play it. I watched hours of YouTube videos on it. I tried finding out if it would be staying as a mod, or a free mod, or moving to being something independant that will cost me more money later. I'm not rich. I pay bills. I only buy 5 or 6 games a YEAR. I can't aford to just throw money away and I have to budget my entertainment spending so I can have things like cable internet and electricity to run it, you know, normal life stuff. When I spent the money on Arma2 so I could play DayZ, even though I didn't and don't know how long it will last as it is, I still knew what kind of game it was. This is a shooter based game with minor character persistence. It has more in common with Counter-Strike and Unreal Tourney than it does with a full fledged MMO like WoW or something. Point is though, I watched everything I could find and learned all I could about the mod before I spent my money on Arma2, knowing damn well that Arma2 by its-self doesn't really interest me much. If I get tired of DayZ I may give it a play through eventually. When it comes to the "cost" of DayZ however, none of us have the right to bitch or QQ AT ALL. Why? Because DayZ is FREE!!! Rocket was Awesome enough to take all his hard work and just put it out there for everyone to play with. I'm sure that eventually he'll start making some money on this or has a plan to later on down the road, and deservedly so. Even after spending what I have on Arma2 if DayZ moves to a new engine or platform or becomes it's own thing I'd gladly kick $10 or $20 Rocket's way for what's to come, and that's just my opinion of the game after playing a total of 3 times, all 3 ending with me dying either by starvation or zombies. I got a broken leg, knew I had no hope of fixing it, and bum rushed a few zombies while un-armed in a ghillie suit. QQ some more. Your tears of rage/quit might fill my canteen if/when I find one.

Indeed as stated above that's about what it is. If it may happen to be a bigger clan they may have their own forums and such as well. I myself have been in the same Guild/Clan quite a few years now "DarkChivalry". I actually haven't talked to the guys in a while to see if they're playing DayZ or not. If they are though I'll start playing with them or if I found enough like minded people and I really get into DayZ I might start up a branch of DC here after I talk to my Guildmaster. If anyone is looking for a great bunch of gamers that get into just about every major MMO or Multiplayer game, check my friends out. I found them randomly on the internet years back and they've been a great group of friends and fellow gamers ever since. We also have members from all over the world and do not discriminate. I literally just started, minutes ago, and while learning how to move and walk and stuff (not a Arma Vet here) I made it to a place and found a ghillie suit. Am I just incredibly lucky or is that kinda normal?

I did end up dying with the suit. I was dehydrating and needed water so desperately I tried to sneak too close to some zombies in a farm house. At least no-one ganked me for it though lol.

Unfortunately I'm not sure if it can be taken off a body or anything like that. This is literally my first run through and I don't even know all the controls yet. I'll ask the guy who kills me if he can take it or not though :) Already equipped. That much I figured out from watching YouTube vids on DayZ over the past few days while deciding whether or not I wanted to spend money on a game just so I could play a mod. Of course knowing my luck DayZ will move on to another engine or a stand-alone paid package or something just as soon as I get decent at it and I'll have to spend money again to keep playing.

RofL...nice. :) I figured it was luck. For some reason I expected something like to be in a military base or air-port or something and not the spot where I found it. Thanks for the warnings everyone. I'm also pretty sure I'll get cap'd and have it looted, but no worries. It is what it is. I'm not a carebear. I had to register with this name and use a yahoo mail because the validation wouldn't go through to my normal mail. I use Brighthouse for a ISP and live in Florida. My mail extensions are "cfl.rr.com". I sent two tickets in about it and got the notices under my normal mail account, but still no validations. I checked my spam folder and even unblocked spam domains I had blocked just in case. Still nothing. Since my yahoo mail seemed to work though I guess it's a non-issue. Thought I would let you know however. Thanks :)
