  1. It's pretty obvious that it's from Glukhovskys' work, and I do see why you'd want that as your avatar (because Metro kicks ass), but it's still a little bit... offensive. Especially if someone doesn't know where it's from. It'd be easy to just assume you're a neo-nazi. You could try a flag/symbol representing the Hanza, if the flag idea is what you're going for (Here).

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update

It sounds silly but hearing something as arbitrary as an ETA and "just keep waiting" is genuinely better than nothing and leaves a genuinely good impression. Thanks for that.

Marking points of interest on your map

Actually I like this idea. The current map markers are global, so everyone can see them. So marking your camp is a huge mistake. But if you each had a unique map with unique markers which can be added/noted on your own then that would add a whole new level to gameplay and a whole new level of excitement to finding corpses/killing someone. Plus it creates a huge risk in marking your camp. It could lead to a reduction in people gearing up tents and just re-arming themselves with their previously gathered gear because an adversary would be able to locate it more easily.
  4. At first I was thinking that this would just lead to more bullshit deaths. But then I thought about it. If the zombies are fixed a little more (so they can't walk through walls etc) and the idea of special zombies was true to the whole "oh god please not like l4d" perspective, then this could really liven this mod up. You spend so long in completely uninhabited areas when you run through the woods that it gets you into a false sense of security. If there was a risk of something stalking you more efficiently than a player following you in the woods then you'd be bricking it almost constantly. Great idea. Larger hospitals which you could explore would be cool, too. More CQC type fighting with zombies (again, if fixed) could be a really interesting development. And I loved that video posted by CerebralZombie. Something like that (but maybe not insta-kill) would really make journeys through the more remote areas of the map interesting.

    a noobs first impressions

Some advice regarding other players: If you find another person and want to be non-hostile, type or say the word (with a mic by pressing caps lock) "friendly" in direct chat and hope they reciprocate. Don't trust them, but offer them help/aid. If they don't reply then either avoid them or return fire if they shoot first. Don't give an unarmed player a weapon if he asks for one. They'll cap you for the rest of your gear. (If you give a seemingly fresh spawn a Makarov, he might have a magazine in his inventory). Stay away from people with towels on their heads. Don't even try to communicate with them. They are bandits. I also recommend trying to sneak into a town like elektro (try and use a map like someone above me said). Fire stations usually have some okay weaponry and supermarkets are a very good source of food, drink and equipment to help you gather more supplies (like a compass, map, hunting knife etc) If you find a bag that's bigger than yours, open it and put the contents of your currently equipped bag inside the new bag before you take the new one. You will die. A lot. Especially if you want to talk to people in game. Don't let that put you off, dying is a strangely fun part of the game. Starting again can be really fun. Zombies can't run when in a building. If you have a zombie conga line, run through an open house or barn to lose them. I hope this isn't too... basic, or obvious. These are just a few things I'd have liked to be told on my first couple days.

Why are so many 'Bronies' into DayZ?

The 'Brony Study' is not a reliable resource. It relied on volunteers that probably would have only heard about it through eqd (note: eqd has a hilariously awkward history in terms of administrators and nsfw content). Not to mention that, y'know, it's really easy to lie on the internet. I really wouldn't trust the brony study. It doesn't stand to scrutiny. Oh, and, honestly, to everyone "trolling" the bronies: whether you're being sincere or not by calling them all "pussies" and "faggots" it's still really god damned stupid. They just like a tv show that wasn't directly intended for them. It's dumb to think that liking a tv show is proof of bad character in a person. It's also dumb to think that liking a show makes you special (especially the whole "gender stereotypes" thing. Seriously. There are so many better ways to challenge GS, and making a big deal of doing it just points out that you usualy conform to them). And bronies started out on the /co/ board of 4chan. They were pretty much just regular guys who stumbled across the show. Then when /b/ got hold of it, some shitheads dove straight in there and began expanding the "fandom" whilst everyone else called them cancer. And now places like tumblr are goddamned brony hives and 4chan created a board specifically for the bronies, /mlp/, but they continue to spam /b/ and, to a lesser extent, /x/.

Why are so many 'Bronies' into DayZ?

Being someone who got caught up in the brony whirl over a year ago, who also left the "fandom" after it became too much of a shit sandwich, I can safely say that it's because bronies are just man-children. Man-children also like zombies. And depressingly bad memes, too, apparently. (Hey, I'm not judging. I'm playing DayZ and used to enjoy ponies too.)
  8. Are you trying to sockpuppet or something? Whatever. If this is true, why not report the admin (assuming they're involved - server reboots etc) instead of doing this kind of thing? It happens way too often and leads to a lot of raids by hackers camping for idiots baited in. It's really immature.
  9. Holy shit. If this is real then props to the guys doing it. This is absolutely brilliant.
  10. I've been playing Dayz for a few weeks or so, but my friend Quincy had only started playing yesterday. We decided to meet up and get some low-level weaponry and an Alice pack for Quincy from around Elektro, before heading inland a bit in an attempt to avoid other players or maybe find some more interesting loot. Yesterday was pretty entertaining for us. On my way towards where Quincy had spawned, I stopped in a few buildings for the sake of grabbing whatever supplies I could (I had died pretty recently). I found 2 Ghillie suits (I have never found even one of these before yesterday). We eventually found each other on the coast east of Elektro and after a little zombie siege on a crane, we headed towards the city for some basic supplies. We got sidetracked while approaching and ended up in the firestation to the north, where I found a DMR (again, first ever) and Quincy took my old Winchester. Once we made it to Elektro, we had a decent amount of food, drink, ammo and equipment. I even had a blood pack from the hospital roof. We finally found a backpack for Quincy, in the café, but it was a Czech backpack. Now Quincy doesn't have a mouse, and I couldn't remember the keyboard alternatives to the scroll-wheel at the time. He managed to put all of his stuff from his current backpack in the new bag, but then couldn't pick it up. We were being genuine idiots. Then Quincy put his coyote pack on the ground. "It's okay," I thought, "we'll find another pack soon enough." At this point, Quincy had to leave. We were both pretty happy with our progress - especially considering we had been wandering around Elektro for a good while without major incident. Then we logged back on today. We continued to loot Elektro in search of a new backpack. we started to hear full-auto gunfire in the distance. Eventually it started to sound pretty close (we spotted the guy running from some zeds across town at one point, but he seemed to be going in the opposite direction to us) and Quincy, fearing for his Ghillie and life, decided that he wasn't really happy with coming face to face with a guy wielding a fully automatic weapon. This was fair enough and I left alone to the building opposite the café (schoolhouse?). I had my DMR on my back and an M1911 equipped. As I walked round a corner, I saw the guy who'd been firing all this time. We were both stood still just looking at each other for about a second, when we both simultaneously opened fire. I put a hole mag into him, and I was down to 1.5k blood. I ran into a back room and immediately started bandaging myself. As soon as the bandage was on I fell unconscious. Quincy asked if I was about to die and if he should come help, but it was safer for him to stay in the café. When I regained consciousness, I heard the guy sitting very close bandaging himself, so I decided that if I couldn't kill him, I'd scare him off. I threw a frag grenade I found in the firehouse into the room where I thought he was, and pretty soon after he was gone. We have no idea where he went - he might have DC'd in hindsight. After the fighting had stopped I ran back to Quincy, and he gave me a blood transfusion. After a while of uneventful looking around, I decided to go into the market - when I spotted a guy in there. He was fending off one or two zombies with a hatchet, so I went in to see if he was friendly. I had my DMR equipped as a deterrent and he said "don't shoot! Don't shoot!" So I didn't. Then, just after I'd finished typing "Friendly" I noticed he was aiming a Makarov at my head. So I shot him. When he was dead, I felt pretty bad about it - until I looked at my murders: 0 and my Bandit kills: 1. I instantly felt pretty okay about it. I went back into the cafe and somehow a zombie had been aggro'd to me. With a single hit it broke my leg before I gunned it down. I couldn't get down the stairs so Quincy went towards the hospital. I honestly wasn't expecting him to make the journey without some other player showing up and killing him - especially since we'd already been in fights with two guys. He managed to get into the hospital, grab a morphine injector and get back to me without a single zombie noticing him. Considering it was his second time playing and without a mouse, I was pretty impressed. Then some guy ran up the stairs with a Lee Enfield and shot me in the head. Quincy gunned the guy down. When I got back there, I grabbed some of my stuff before the same guy came back. The details of this particular fight are a little blurry. In the end, there were about 5 corpses in the café alone and most of the loot had somehow disappeared via some kind of glitch or something. Somewhat defeated but still somehow alive, we headed towards the church. Whilst just searching some of the loot, I was being as oblivious as humanly possible and got shot in the head by another person trying to get some easy loot via pvp. Then Quincy shot him dead. Then another guy came at him, and Quincy got the jump on him by hiding behind a corner. He started to loot the bodies, finding NVGs, a map, compass and an M4A1 CCO. Before he could pick them up, however, he was shot in the side of the head. And that's our first adventure together in DayZ. Quincy is a much more competent player than I had expected - and I'm a much less competent player than I'd hoped.

    Green Mt.

I went to Green Mountain (for the first time and alone) a few days ago. I spent a good while watching and observing the gate for zombies and other players (though I had no idea there were all of these myths and whatnot). While I was hiding in a pretty decent spot with a good field of view, I heard a solitary gunshot and sort of panicked. I froze, not really wanting to alert the shooter or the zombies to my presence. After a few more minutes of observation, I could see nothing but ~5 zombies. Then I got called away and had to leave. But when I logged into a different server later on, I noticed the mass grave and was instantly quite creeped out - mainly because of the flies which I associate with, y'know, areas of pretty intense danger and implied player violence. Not to mention the fact that mass graves are generally pretty goddamn creepy anyway. I didn't find any significant loot and the vehicles were absent, but I did notice some bizarre zombie behaviour. They had spawned outside the gate and were not aggro'd to me, but when I turned around from the corpse pile and the military loot spawn, every single one of them (by this point I'd estimate about 15 had spawned in) was within the compound. I stayed completely motionless out of fear of a zombie siege battle in the tower. Then I realised that they were all walking in single file out of the compound. This freaked the ever-loving fuck out of me so I decided to just leave. This was all in the daytime. I might go there again at night - just because it might be fun to scare myself shitless. So all in all, some mildly strange things happened and I solidified my status as a DayZ pansy. Oh, but the deer stands had some okay loot.

    Don't bother visiting this server

The only thing I'm seeing here, accusations aside, is whiny bitches. I'm not going to be going anywhere near Omega 6 or their server - not because I'm of the opinion that they are likely to be hackers, but because Legendary Fox is not handling this gracefully and is making his clan look like childish asswipes. Whatever. Both sides are losing here.
  13. Sounds like they just didn't know enough about the game, let alone banditry, to even consider PvP. And like everyone else has said: no "elite" bandit clan/group is going to recruit some guy they don't even know.
  14. Haha, snap. Sucks to be that guy. Wish I could say I hadn't been there before.

Dat one epic moment you never forget.

I'll never forget my very first fight on DayZ. I was in the supermarket in Elektro looking for some basic supplies, when I heard gunfire in the distance. I went to the back room and started to prepare to defend myself. I only had an Enfield, though, so I was pretty aware that I was probably about to die. Anyway, I was getting pretty paranoid from sitting in silence for 10 minutes hearing the gunshots getting closer and closer. Finally I convince myself that I should be safe for the 30 seconds it takes to eat some beans, and when I look up there's a guy looking right at me. I take aim with my rifle in a complete spasm and the guy empties 6 rounds from his revolver at me. In this time I miss once and hit with the second shot. Then I realise I'm not bleeding. I wasn't even hit. "Shit," I thought, "I can hear flies." Sure enough, I'd hit the fucker in the head and he was flopped over on the other side of the wall (he must have been trying to run when I hit him). Honestly, my heart was pounding like a motherfucker. It had to sink in that I'd killed a guy for a minute. Took what I could and left the body for the next person - they might have had use for the scraps I couldn't carry.

    Bloodlust...

OP's so edgy he'll cut ya.
  17. Yeah, I'm having the exact opposite as well. My timezone is GMT. So when I see a server that says "GMT -4" and 6pm, I expect 2pm, not 11:30pm. Shit gets annoying, but oh well.
  18. Honestly, I kind of wish this type of policy could be frowned upon. But the truth is - it can't. Regardless of who you are, most people will KoS. So it's only natural (especially when doing something as risky as taking a medic role) to take the calculated risk of eliminating threats to yourself and your friendly patients. Plus the added loot for your patients is also a massive positive. Out of the hands of the (potential) PKer victim and into the hands of the survivors. While it's unfortunate that you have to take on this policy, it's entirely necessary at the moment and probably helps out your patients a great deal.

anyone want to trade a tent?

Are you trying to gain a tent or shift one?

    What is it with vehicle's

A couple days after I started playing, I was being an idiot and decided to run directly north 'til I reached the top of the map. Found a motorcycle next to a house in full condition, with almost no fuel. That's the only vehicle I've ever found, so I see where you're coming from about the whole "vehicles are hard to find" thing. But I think what everyone else is saying here is pretty much spot on - search for camps.

    Unexpected Emotion from a GAME

A few days ago, I had 2 murders to my name via self-defence. I was playing at night, and was on the western border of Elektro, rooting around in the trees looking for a route to the airstrip (at the time I thought I was in Cherno), when I spotted the light from a torch in the distance. Being the pansy I am, I immediately got shitscared and thought that I was about to die. I dropped down and took aim with my new Lee Enfield. I watched the guy make his way to the petrol station and proceed to look around the buildings. His torch passed over my direction once or twice, but he hadn't seen me. I was really afraid he'd have a decent gun and spot me, so I took the shot. I missed, and he dropped to the floor. I shot 2 more times. His torch went out, but no murder. I waited. I could just make out his outline moving, so I shot again, missing. Finally his torch came back on, so I aimed in again. I shot again and I'm fairly sure it made contact, but he was still alive, so I shot again. He was dead. Moving down to where his body was, I realised what I'd just done. Killed someone on sight without even saying "friendly." Then I searched him, and found that all he had was a bandage and some painkillers. I killed a fresh spawn on sight. I felt absolutely awful. I've never felt so bad for killing someone on a game before - and I doubt I ever will again. Now, when I see an unarmed person, I'll either avoid them, kill any zeds chasing them, or I'll ask them if they need supplies.
