Is this true about regular vs veteran servers?

Sadly it is still possible to find the range of a player even in Vet mode without the use of a rangefinder which the majority of snipers im guessing know about. - its not an issue with Dayz but with the Arma engine - just saying so dont think you are completely safe! I use Commander and six launcher - I like Commander though as you can add your friends / clan mates and just join straight to whatever server they are on without having to search servers ect.

Is this true about regular vs veteran servers?

From the best of my knowledge... the differences are. Map - you can see yourself and nearby people / zombies. (once you find a map in game) Nametags - showing player name and distance when you aim / hover your crosshair over a player - watch out for PvP snipers as they will use this to their advantage! Damage - is not changed between the two - your going to feel a round to the head ether way. Loot - no change - Zombies - still the same - ive heard there are always less zombies on Reg servers but its hard to judge as they spawn in relation to how many players are within a certain area / are on the server. I personally think there is no difference. 3rd person view - no difference between Vet and Reg. This is only disabled on Elite servers which is the step up from veteran servers. Difference between Vet and Elite - just the 3rd person view to the best of my knowledge. Enjoy

Is this true about regular vs veteran servers?

The major thing to watch for when playing in reg servers isnt so much the map.... Its the fact that if a sniper zooms on you.... in vet servers they will have to guess the range or use a rangefinder - in Reg servers it says who you are and how far away the target is (just from having the target within the crosshairs) this lets the sniper zero in his / her rifle alot easier to get that perfect long range shot that never misses. There are tricks of course to do this on vet servers as well without the rangefinder ect... but not really sure if I want to share this.... =P PS Blue = survivor but only show within a certain distance. Orange = man = Zombie.

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

Hey boys, girls, bandits and the odd internet troll. Ive been thinking hard about this game which I have become addicted to. I would not consider myself a veteran of Dayz by any stretch (having only survived 9 days now) but I am enjoying the ever evolving gameplay but wanted to see if others have come to the same conclusion that I have... TLDR - edited out. As I play through the mod Ive decided that the game has become... harsher for the new players to the mod. I understand that this is a sandbox game and that there is no way to correctly play the mod. Out of curiosity... Would people agree though that less people use the in game chat to talk to people now due to the fear of being killed? Has the game become more of a PvP experience now where food and water has become sidelined to finding a good rifle and sitting on the hill near the airfield, Electro, Crno ect? Are people starting to develop fears of joining full servers or leaving to find empty servers when more than 10 players are in a server? The point that I am (slowly) trying to make... Has DayZ become another typical PVP FPS on a larger, slower scale where the common consensus is kill or be killed. Has the days of talking to other players and encountering new people in DayZ disappeared and been replaced with just a simple 'if I see you, I will shoot you' style of game (proof of this is the murder tab in relation to the bandits alive / killed tabs on the home page which has jumped by leap and bounds this one week alone.) Is the only real way to be safe in this mod to travel in a group and use intimidation? (even then... we still get players charging us with a hatchet and trying to take one of us with them before being taken down by gunfire or the odd sniper opening up on us) I hope not.... The thing I love about Dayz is that is it different from all those other games, you can cut the tension with a knife when you do stumble on another survivor and you DONT just open up on each other.... now however, the only tension I have is am I going to be sniped and killed instantly when I cross that hill / tree line / building which is the same tension I have in any other FPS game / mod... Not bitching, just checking out some of the other opinions out there....

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

I thought a traditional sandbox game was more like Valves Garys Mod, where you can make you own things and your own mechanics... But I may be totally wrong there. EDIT: Correction. Just googled it and a sandbox game is: An OPEN WORLD is a type of video level design where a player can roam freely through a virtual world and is given considerable freedom in choosing how or when to approach objectives. OR Sometimes, open world gaming is included as a game mode in a game that is not mainly open world (a prominent example being the Forge mode in Halo 3 and Halo Reach). These modes usually grant you access to a set of existing components such as walls and doors, as well as gameplay objects like vehicles and weapons. - So guess I was kinda right....

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

I dont think you understood the point of the OP - im not saying that killing other players is bad. I also have good gear myself so im not hating on people with good gear. Im saying that ive noticed a massive change of how the game is being played. Im saying that its become more of a kill on sight for ALL players. Not just the ones who have good gear. That the game has become less of a 'lets team up game' and that there is less communication between players at all, even if its just saying Hello or friendly over direct communication - especially for new players on the water. Also your saying nobody wants risk yet "I'll shoot anyone i see in the vicinity or anyone who looks like they pose a threat"...lol. but thats just the troll within me starting to emerge.

Need tips on the Czech Vest Pouch

Not true - I have the standard Czech pack (the large one) with my G-suit at the moment and you cant see it at all. In fact im pretty sure you cant see any packs (regardless of size) when wearing a G-Suit.

    Just raided a Clan Camp

Random question... is there a trick to setting up a tent? I see tents set up under tree's on top of mountains or sometimes just in the middle of the road. When I try to set up a tent it tells me... Tent can not be deployed here. The land must be flat and free of objects (or words very similar to that)

Need tips on the Czech Vest Pouch

What is the point of the Czech Vest pouch btw? Or is it just the advantage of having a 'pack' that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb? It would have been cool if they had made it like a bullet proof vest which could withstand small arms fire (such as pistols)

    What exactly is a clan?

Don't know about other clans. The clan Im in used to play BF3 before moving over to DayZ. In game now we travel together and help each other out in the sense if someone gets hurt, there is usually a member nearby to help out with a blood bag. Travel in two groups of about 4/5. One with a sniper rifle / lee en and the others with automatic weapons. Attempt to use Team work - eg... moving in on a barn, We will keep two people on the outskirts of the forest on overwatch while the others move in. Also... clans tend to use something like teamspeak - so chances are they can communicate alot better than people just using the in game dayZ chat.

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

Rocket has said on a youtube channel that I watch that PvP is mostly generated because players are getting to a point where there isn't alot to do but to hunt other players who are unpredictable (hence giving the fun aspect) This I can understand and accept until more content comes. Its the new players who are coming into the game with the PvP shoot first mentality that sort of worries me in regards to the direction of the mod. Although maybe its always been like that and I've just had good experiences when I first started playing. I remember feeling so tense the first time I came along another player and the first awkward encounters where we didn't just open up on each other straight away. It was nerve racking! Its that part of the game which is slowly disappearing unfortunately which is a shame for all those nw players who are just joining into PvP battlegrounds right from the get go.

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

I can see how this COULD work... but I must say... all the NZ and Australian servers from about 5 onwards are constantly full to the point where you can not join (until the server crashes then there is a huge rush to jump on before it fills up again) Myself and my clan buddys who are spread over NZ and Aust generally have to join up on US and GB servers with pings sometimes around 150, other times around 300ish if we want to play together. If something like this was implemented... it would mean being locked into servers in different timezones from ourselves. Not to mention what happens when a server goes offline? I can see what you are saying though... I just personally don't think its very practical... especially for the countries which don't have hundreds and hundreds of servers to choose from. But anyway... thats getting really off topic from the OP.

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

That is an interesting idea - never going to be implemented due to a number of issues that I can think of but I like the way you are thinking.

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

Sadly I know one of those idiots who jumps from server to server around electro with a Lee enfield just to kill players - not to loot. His mentality is sadly... If I die, eh... it was just a LE and those can be found in any empty server. I can just see more and more of that style of player who are coming onto the game with no intention of survive... but for the PvP aspect of the game.

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

I imagine that if there was ever an apocalypse, be it disease, nuclear warfare, the dead rising ect where the dead numbered more than the living / non-infected then the survivors would band together for the common good as is shown in human nature and the people in forums going on about how they would shoot anyone on sight in those circumstances would eat there own words. This however is a game, and will be impossible to ever simulate that experience unless they had something like one death per CD key (which would just be a death sentence for that game) But thats sort of going off topic. =P

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

I agree with this completely. I was more aiming this at the newer players spawning on the beach who seem to now all have the mentality of shoot on sight (which isn't necessary a bad thing) The mod seems to be developing to me to a more PvP style game right from the get go rather than for players who have all the loot and know all the tricks.

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

Not so much that - Im not that attached to my gear. But it is undeniable that those big cites have become PvP hotspots.... well, not so much PvP but rather high powered snipers sitting on top of a hill vrs everyone else down in the towns. Do I find being shot by them enjoyable in game? I'd say not. I at least like a chance to shoot back.... But thats getting off topic from the thread.

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

This I very much agree with - our clan dayz group (of 5/6 players) wanted to build a car just as something to do but the car parts generally are around towns = us being shot at. Sadly the group is starting to develop a shoot on sight policy which I'm not too happy with which sort of sparked this thread. Eh

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

Sorry, I've not played the latest COD games. I know you can't run and sprint ect BF3 (which is the game our clan used to play before transferring to dayZ)
  21. nzcanucksteven@gmail.com

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

This is exactly what I mean. It now has got to the point where our clan members are adopting a shoot on sight policy (which I am not a fan of....) because it has just become too dangerous to even attempt communication with other players...

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?

Didn't know that. Although I guess that number may not be correct as people tend to just run into zombies 3 or 4 times these days so that they can die and spawn closer to friends / a certain area.
