I was new'ish to both PC and Dayz, only played CSS and Red Orchestra 2 before and not had my PC more than a couple months. I'm a jaded 360 player at heart. I bought my PC for Arma 3 and wasn't planning on buying number 2, a friend told me about DayZ and i thought i'd give it a go. Be warned, its a mare to actually get running at all, takes a lot of folk plenty of messing about. That annoyed me no end, then the first time i played i got chased into the woods by a zed and walked for miles, off the map and back again. Died of thirst in sight of a buliding, felt like a Rambler sim and i wasn't impressed. However, it gets under your skin, you learn the controls, learn the map and spawn points (download one off the net and keep an eye out for road signs ;) ) Then you die lots and get chased all over by zeds.Time goes on, you get some supplies, a gun maybe and die again. You start over and over, getting hunted by everything with two legs, occassionally meeting nice folk who help. You see the odd guy, follow him for a while, watch him die, rob his corpse :lol: and so it goes on. A week or so later, just when you've got all you need to live in the wilds, you venture one last trip into a village and die yet again. Then start all over and thats where i am now. Trying to get to the hospital and out of Dodge, its harder than it looks. Try playing in the early morning, UK time for me. Less bandits about. Its brutal, hard work to get running but quite possibly the best game i have ever played, glitches/hackers and all. B)

I walked out there on my first spawn, from the SW somewhere. Didn't dawn on me it was off the map, walked and walked until I got bored, then headed back. Got list in the wood, found the edge of the nap again so turned and headed back into the woods. Died of thirst within sight of my first building. Doh!

Well i'm guessing its DayZ on tv :huh:

Surely this section is for exactly this type of question? New guys asking the wiser how things work, one thing I hate the most is folk being rude just for the sake of it. You didn't have to read it or post!! ;)

I don't kill on purpose, got killed twice last night in Electro buy a group and a guy just hunting players. I did wack some poor dude when I panicked in the fire station tower. Wasted a whole clip of AK rounds in him as he didn't drop. Poor fella, sorry dude :( I'm in GMT +1 if you wanna buddy up? No idea how I add you though? I'm new to pc but am on a UK server most nights.

There is quite a performance hit between the two, I was playing on Ultra on Arma 2 but have to drop to high for OA/Dayz. I'm using a 560ti so this doesn't help much I know, sorry.

I'm using these drivers on my 560ti 448, was ok a week or so ago so I don't think it's a driver issue. I've had these drivers for a good couple months, since I first installed my card and it updated. Only had trouble with dayz over the last few days. I've made a post here, http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/72364-sudden-fps-drop/ Some seem to think it's a 1.7.2.5 issue with the last update. I'm gonna roll back to 1.7.2.4 and try that tonight. If I can find a server.

Well at least I'm not the only one, was thinking my card was faulty. When i look at MSI after burner afterwards, my gpu processing is up and gown more than a whores knickers lol. It's way more stable a line between peek and non peek % while playing RO2. I tried editing my video settings, even dropped then to all "normal" and it made zero difference except the game looked like crap. It's definitely worse in towns and with other players about so that would explain why it drops from my spawn point of to the time I get to town. I'm surprised Arma 2 single player has gotten so bad. That played at better settings than I've ever been able to run Dayz, now it's unplayable. DayZcommander allows you to roll back to 1.7.2.4, i will try that tonight and report back.

I'm on Steam and get in most UK servers, UK ones are great but FR still hang. I try to remember the severs that were good and stick with them, saves the hassle.

No the flush didn't work :( I tried a couple servers as i got killed twice, made no difference. That wouldn't explain my Arma 2 sp being bad now.

Thanks i will try that. Just some more info, i now can't play Arma 2 sp campaign as its even worse. I'm getting 15-25 fps and i use to run that on ultra and get 60 with vsync? The odd thing is in the title screen, the ship etc its running at 60 fine. Went and tried Red Ochestra 2 and that ran as smooth as butter, solid 60fps with vsync. Could the beta updates be the problem?

I had loads of trouble getting it to work. I followed a YouTube video, that again didn't work BUT DayZcommander did work after that. I've mentioned this before, check my old posts for a link. Also I've noticed if your not upto date with beta, dayz and DayZcommander then it gives me problems joining some servers. You can check all this by clicking the "versions" tab when you launch commander.

I like the idea of a +1000 reward to your humanity, that would work well. I'm sure the system could be set up to track it, it could be simply a change of name colour once your humanity sank below a certain point.

I'm afraid to die once i've been playing a few hours, give me two days with full kit and its unbearable. Ain't that feeling just grand... :D

Thats soooo true, my daughters overheats like mad just running Roboblocks lol. The cooling pad at least kept it form cutting out after 10mins.

Most i5 processors use the 2500k intergrated chipset, the 3570 uses the 4000k. I tried running games on a 2500k and all apart from CSS were rubbish, even on low settings. I wouldn't waste your cash if you haven't got Arma CO already.

As Alex said, find a map on the Internet and check out the road signs, it works for me. Also look at bottom right hand corner of the screen as soon as you spawn, your location it there for just a few seconds only! Other than that you get used to the spawn sites pretty quickly, I've had the game a week and recognise my spawn location most of the time.

An Irish guy on YouTube said run inland until you find a road, follow that road until you find a farm. A farm with a barn, in that barn will more than likely be a gun but at least an axe. I've tried it does work, mostly. Some times I find nothing in Cherno etc, other times I've found more weapons than I can carry. It's just the luck of the draw.

I would hit the deck as soon as I heard gun shots, most if not all miss you on the ground. I've had someone quite literally walk inches past and never knew I was there. He could of walked away, they were probably to busy looting to have noticed. He could of just said he was friendly, there is always another way out imo. You might not get away with it but then hey, that's the risk/reward system at its best.
