  1. Dear Community, I'm a friendly player. I've never killed another player for his gear or for plain fun. Only in self defence. Since the very beginning of this alpha, people keep saying that if you want to stay alive, you should KOS - because everyone else does. I'll do my best to restore your faith in kindness and solidarity. The rules: - give help to both new spawns and geared people, whenever they need it - protect the underdogs - don't kill any innocents The preparations: - find UN beret or helmet - gather medical supplies, food, water, tools and guns - make notes, which will include the information about this project and a link to this forum thread The experiment: - all players that will receive my help, will be handed an in-game note, which will ask them to visit this topic I'll keep you guys posted with updates on my little project. Wish me luck! -- The Outcome -- Total encounters: 7 Total friendly encounters: 6/7 Total hostile encounters 1/7 Total friendly players met: 9 Total hostile players met: 1 Bandits killed: 1 Total leaflets given: 5 Deaths: 1 Day 1 - atre88 - 3 encounters total (2x single survivor, 1x two survivor group) - 3/3 encounters friendly - 2 leaflets given Day 2 - atre88 - 3 encounters total (2x single survivor, 1x three survivor group) - 3/3 encounters friendly - 3 leaflets given Day 3 - atre88 + Veniathan - 1 encounter total - 0/1 encounters friendly - 1/1 encounters hostile - 1/1 bandits killed - 0 leaflets given - Death Day 4 - in progress
  2. Alright. So here's report of Day 3. Yesterday I've joined forces with a fellow hero, who contacted me via forums after reading this topic - Veniathan. We met in Olsha, then travelled together to Svetlojarsk, Cernaya Polana, Krasnostav, Khelm and Berezino. Until we reached Berezino, we haven't seen a single soul, while playing a server with population 30+. In Berezino we've spotted a Bambi in distance and decided to approach him to ask if he needs help (he was without his t-shirt, so I guessed he might be hurt). When we entered Berezino from North, we heard multiple shots. Afraid for the life of our Bambi, we've decided to sweep the town for bandits. After 10 minutes we've found the perpetrator in restaurant's first floor. We exchanged fire, but he quickly hid inside the building. I've led the entry to clear the building, and gave bandit a chance to surrender. He did not respond. We exchanged fire again - I hit him once with my magnum, he shot me with his rifle. I collapsed, and moments later Veniathan finished the job and killed the bad guy. Here's some pics: 1) Entry 2) Bandit down
  3. You shouldn't regret killing a combat logger. They're a plague of this game, ruining the game experience of many players. If someone is too afraid to face other players, he or she should go play some single-player zombie games. Interaction with other survivors, dying and starting again from scratch is what makes this game exciting. I remember once I've stalked a player, who shot down a bambi looting Elektro. When I was about to deliver justice and fired, he runs into the red house (the one with only one entrance and only upstair rooms). I enter the place with my magnum in hand, very slowly. I tell him to give up, and that I'll spare his life if I'll see him with his hands in the air. I enter the final room and... it's empty. But to stay on topic. What do I regret? That I missed and shot his arm, instead of his head.
  4. Today I haven't met a single player yet. So while travelling, I've prepared some survivor packs. Each contains 3 cans of tuna (which is openable without any tools), a bandage, a can of drink and a leaflet. Here's how it looks:
  5. Well. That's what happens when you don't communicate with your mates. You should've established which one of you is going to release the poor guy. I've heard of many similar f**kups, when two friends try to axe the same zed... When melee weapons are involved, always distribute targets before taking a swing.
  6. I guess I should visit that server as well. You have my axe!

    Playing styles

Lone Ranger - I travel the Chernarus without companions. I carefully scout every city with binoculars/scope before entering it. I never kill innocents and I offer my help to every met survivor. I kill in self defence and to protect others - bandits are on my list ;) Check out my signature for my project, strictly connected with my play style.
  8. Guys! You are free to copy the message I've posted on the first page, and help people just like me and tell them to visit this topic :). I'm not bound to any specific server. I rarely play the same server twice. Here's another update on my quest: - I've witnessed a murder in Cernaya Polana. I couldn't catch the killer, I guess he hopped into one of the residential buildings and logged out. Here's a picture of the poor guy. When I got to his body, he was already dead :(. Then I've met another survivor in between Olsha and Svetlojarsk. We greeted eachother and I handed him my leaflet. He was freaked out, but after a while we had a nice conversation. He went his way and didn't wanted any help. Then I've noticed a campfire on the roof of a TEC building in Svetlojarsk. I've scouted it and located three players on the rooftop, one obvious bambi. They were armed, but in some basic weapons. After a while, I've decided to visit them to see if they need any help - maybe their campfire signal was an SOS? The guys freaked out, but lowered their weapons when I told them I'm friendly and I won't kill them. They were in need of food, water and medicine. I gave them some canned food, a water canteen, bandages and painkillers. And a leaflet, of course. When I was going to leave them, they told me to stop and... asked me for directions to Berezino Mill. I've shown them the way and High Fived one of them. Before I went my way, I warned them to get off the rooftop, because they are an easy target for any sniper. Here's some pics:
  9. Thanks for your support guys! I've met another survivor. She ran into me in Cernaya Polana, screaming for help. I shot to zombie that was chasing her, bandaged her wounds, injected saline and gave a leaflet. She didn't need any supplies, so we both went our ways after a short talk. That's my fourth player encounter since the project's start, again friendly and without any problems. Here's a pic:
  10. Mor, of course you are right. When I want pure PVP, I go and play Battlefield. This project is going to be a challange and - obviously - is much more difficult than random KOSing :). I guess these three encounters gave me even more adrenaline than any firefight I've been into in DayZ. Why? Because you never know if the guy or gal u're trying to help is going to shoot you as soon as you holster your gun to show some goodwill. Really, if you guys get bored - dedicate yourself to helping others. It's exciting, challengening and making people smile :).

    How about the immortal... YUGO?
  12. Well, at the moment I'm a lone-wolf, so I travel without backup :). Today I had 3 player encounters, all of them friendly. 1) I've rescued a fresh player from zombie attack in Cernaya Polana. Bandaged his wounds, gave him some saline to heal his wounds, and supplied him with additional bandages and food + drinks 2) I've met a fresh player in Berezino. We hailed eachother, but he didn't need any help. He bumped into me in Berezino clinic with his axe out and my weapon sheathed, but didn't attack me. 3) I've met a lovely couple in Berezino. I gave them some shotgun ammo, supplied them with a pump-action shotgun. We took some selfies and even high fived! Before we said goodbye, they offered me some morphine to help me on my mission. I hope all who got my leaflets will visit this topic :).
  13. Well guys. I'm still during the preparations stage, but I've already made a new friend. And guess what, he didn't came after me with his splitting axe. Here's how my notes look like:
  14. Hello! After reading tons of topics, full of topics of complaints on KoS, I've decided to give away some tips. I've killed dozens of characters so far, and I was killed probably even more times. Here you go: 1) Avoid obvious routes. Don't travel along roads, rail tracks. 150-200 metres away from them will allow you to keep to right direction and avoid many contacts. 2) Look around. Use your left "alt" to check out what's happening behind your back and to your sides. At least once every minute. 3) Control your breath. Don't sprint all the time this will deplete your energy, and - what's even more important - won't allow you to shoot back if you're ambushed. Control your breath - if your character's breath is loud and fast, look for a safe place and sit for a minute or two. 4) Before entering any town, take a break. This will allow you to replenish energy and scan the town for human activity. Look for movement, open doors, lights. 5) Use darkness to your advantage. Use your flashlight only when absolutely necessary. Turn it off immediately after you find what you're looking for. Lights will give away your position to other players. 6) Don't try to look badass, if you can't defend yourself. If you gear up, have a nice backpack, military grade clothes - you're an obvious target for bandits. 7) Carrying a rifle without ammo is a bad idea. Other survivors will immediately see you as a serious threat to their safety, they may KoS just because you're carrying a gun on your back. Also, other's might want your gun badly. 8) When surprised and without chance to run/defend - give up. Just say "I give up" or "friendly" and press F2. So far I never got killed when I did that move. Sometimes geared up players will just let you go, or make you drop your backpack or sth. 9) Use your ears and remembers, that others can do that too. Don't make any unnecessary noices. Don't fire your gun against zombies, if you can handle them safely with your axe. Don't sprint inside buildings. 10) Don't eat in cities. Collect your food and have a lunch in a safe place, a few hundred metres from the nearest town. There's nothing worse than being caught by others in the middle of your breakfast. It also generates noice. 11) Use backdoor to enter buildings. Don't use main entrances - if the building is being watched, mostly the front door is guarded. 12) Be aware of windows. Don't show up in windows of the building you're looting. Crouch or go prone, if you want to collect loot near windows. Also, use them to your advantage and scan sorroundings of the building you're inside before going out. 13) Team up with a real-life friend. 80% per cent of my deaths happened, when I was alone. When I roam the Chernarus with my friend, our survival rate is much higher. 14) Military tactics WORK in some pc games. DayZ is one of them. If you really want to learn something useful, check out real-life military handbooks. Those focusing on MOUT warfare would be very useful. 15) Engage targets only, if there's a reasonable purpose. Shooting one guy will give away your position to others. Possibly his friends. 16) Ready up your weapon EVERY TIME you get inside a building. You never know if someone is there and what is his or her intention. And, finally: 17) DON'T BE A DICK. It will backfire. I hope you find these tips useful. Stay safe.
  15. Again, again and again. Ok. I'm a hero. I spot a dude. I tell him I'm friendly. He raises his gun, I managed to shoot first. Hooray, now I'm a "bandit" for 24h.
  16. Search for two keywords - "sanity" and "humanity" gave me over 100 hits. 2 minutes spent on using the "search" function. I bet you have never played the mod, as most of your ideas were already implemented in the Dayz Mod or Dayz Mod Mods ;P. I guess if I can handle Dwarf Fortress pretty well, I would also be able to handle these mechanics of yours. I am not going to give you any more reasons to get angry at me, or insult me. I'll just remind you what u did wrote at the end of your first post: "But what do you guys think?". If you can't accept that others have different views than you, don't ask for feedback for your ideas.
  17. Sorry, I'm just sick of these topics. Everyday there are like 3-4 brilliant, totally original ideas of adding sanity. Each and every author thinks he's the first one to share this idea, as all are too lazy to look through the forums for 5 minutes. This is frickin zombie apocalypse. Every survivor witnessed enough horrors to handle killing a human being. Let people play the game the way they like. When I kill someone, I feel bad about it. But I do not expect anybody else to have the same moral code as me. Is this clear enough? Do we really have to explain this in every single one "original" solution for "fixing" KoS like if it was a bug? Geez.
  18. Yep. Me. But I don' feel bad about it. The game is most entertaining for me when I'm a freshspawn. Alpha - we all knew what we were buying
  19. Check out my guide and feel free to ask any questions. The link is in my signature. Stay safe.
  20. I guess you were never in a fight IRL, if you think it's an abuse or sth unrealistic. People really go down quickly if you punch them hard in the face. Good job Lue!
