Tips for green survivors - PvP / KoS
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
Actually: Don't. If you have any means to enforce your demands (even a .45 pistol), don't let others know you're a... pussy. Use your VOIP and give short commands. Don't say "I'm friendly" - this shows that you're weak. Say: "You can go away." "Get out of here!". This will show others that you're in control of the situation. Yelling "friendly" every time you see someone is a bad idea. Make's you a prey, not the hunter. Use "friendly" only when you stay NO CHANCE. This means - the others are better armed / outnumbering you seriously. If you both carry same grade weapons - be the stronger one. Yesterday I encountered two dudes, who were hostile. I told them to go out of my sight and I was armed only with a kitchen knife. They stood speechless. "I'll fuckin' gut you" I said. They ran away as soon as I made a step towards them with my knife raised. I doubt I could've taken out both of them, but I just seemed stronger. This is why they gave up and ran. Don't show your weakness'. This will lead to your demise, just as in the real life. -
Does any one else feel burnt out already?
[email protected] replied to scaramoosh's topic in General Discussion
Well, how about establishing some goals for yourself? Examples: 1. Help other people. Collect food, can openers and other essential stuff and give it away to bambis. 2. Hunt bandits. Look for campers, assault them and yell "Die, you bandit scumbag". 3. Became a bandit, but not a murderer. Ambush people, make them surrender and make them give away something, but not *everything*. Like "Two cans of beans or life!". -
Your first encounter with a player in SA
[email protected] replied to Herkon's topic in New Player Discussion
I believe that could be me. I had that kind of encounter two days ago in Elektro. Dude didn't want to comply for over a minute. I heard footsteps nearby and shot him down, thinking that maybe his friend is coming trying to chop my head off. If it was you I shot back there - sorry. I hope that now you've learned how to drop your weapon :P -
Containers working unintuitively
[email protected] replied to Imbalanxd's topic in New Player Discussion
How about that: Containers let you organize your items better and that's why they give "additional" space? You can put them tightly one next to another and avoid empty space loss, what often occurs when people pack their rucksacks in real life... ;) -
Please change player bodies on death
[email protected] replied to ioannides511's topic in General Discussion
Go play CoD or sth if you can't deal with losing stuff in a PC GAME to a point you're using a bug to rob other players of their fun. Shame on u. -
Totally. Maybe that would make some people put more value in their lives, not just equipment they managed to loot.
-
Nicely done. Very civilized in fact ;)

I've killed many and I was killed by many. But I do have a Code that I follow: 1) If someone aims his gun at me, I shoot. 2) If I surprise someone, I always give them a chance to surrender 3) If someone is unarmed and runs, I let them run. 4) If someone is armed and runs, I shoot them - I can't allow them to shoot my back later. 5) If I need anything (food, drink, tools) I ask for it. 6) If you don't own anything of use to me, you are free to go. 7) If you have listened nicely to all my commands, you can get some food and drinks from my stock. And, of cource, you are free to go. 8) You don't listen to me, I warn you. Once. The second is a warning shot to your head. I'm sure many of my "victims" thought I randomly KoSed them. No, I didn't. I just care - above all - for my own security. I have never shot a dude without giving him a chance. I died a couple of times already, when another survivor tried to fight instead of comply. But this is a price of being Mr Nice Guy. Guys - the thing is, don't assume that if someone shot you, he's always a dickhead. Think about your behaviour. Today I stopped a guy who bumped at me in a building I was looting. He was a bambi. I told him to show me his hands and stop. Instead he rushed at me with his fists. I had to kill him, and I didn't want to. Play as this is your only life, no respawns. It's more fun if you actually care if you live or die. Regards

Can we please already have this topic

You need to clean your wounds I guess. Try alcohol or some antiseptic. -
Your first encounter with a player in SA
[email protected] replied to Herkon's topic in New Player Discussion
Bumped into one guy in Elektro. He froze, I froze. We told eachother we're friendly. Sheathed our weapons. And walked in different directions, constantly looking at eachother. That was my first, and so far last player encounter. -
I've started the game just two days ago. It was night. I had no gun, food, map or whatever. The first zombie I saw gave me enough creeps to decide not to enter the first town I found. After searching one of the houses on the outskirts I've found an... empty tin can. Encouraged by my very first finding, I've decided to look for another house. And then it happened - zombies somehow noticed me and I started running. I ran to the hills and... wow! I managed to lose them, unhurt. Somehow I found another settlement. Being more careful this time, no zombie found me. Unfortunately, the only thing I've found was some Lee Enfield bullets and a can of food. Still - no gun. I had to go to sleep. Now it's daytime. Soon after leaving, I've noticed a large building, a barn possibly, far away. I was already starting to dehydrate and hoped to find something to drink. Dodging the undead, I've entered the barn and... unbelievable! A winchester rifle and 30 bullets. Great. Now I can rule the world - I thought. But what will I use it for, if I'll die of thirst soon? Knowing that there's not much time I approached another village, being less careful than before. Zeds noticed me and a whole horde started chasing me. I had nowhere to run with the coast on my left and a plain field to the right. I've decided to fight. Bleeding heavily, with my vision blurred, I stood there with a pile of 17 very dead bodies under my feet. I bandaged my wounds and started to search through this mess. Unbelievable. A can of coke. It quenched my thirst, but still I was heavily wounded. Eating the canned food didn't helped much. Also I knew very soon I'll get thirsty again. I've entered the town, cleared of zombies. And guess what. I've found a full water canteen, more beans, a hatchet and a hunting knife. I'm a PC gamer for over 15 years now. And this is my best gaming experience ever.

Thanks for replies guys :). I got my compass! Now I've got everything I need to survive in the wilderness. Unfortunately - I don't quite find it fun. During this "life" I encountered other player two times. And it gave me the most thrills. My current loadout: - Alice pack - Lots of cooked meat - 3 water canteens - Basic medical supplies - painkillers, heatpack, bandages - Map, compass, watch, hunting knife, hatchet, matches - M4 w/ silencer (+ 5 clips) - AKM (+4 clips) - Glock 17 (+5 clips) What possibly could I look for? Everything that comes to my mind is going for more advanced medical supplies, but going to Cherno/Elektro seems a suicide.

NEW ENCOUNTER ADDED OMG - SWAMP MONSTERS OMG WTF

Shat my pants. -
Alright. I was out of town for a couple of days and couldn't play my fav Arma II mod ;). Today I made a trip: Pustoshka-Vybor-Veresnik hill-Stary Sobor. I've looted Pustoshka's, Vybor's and Stary Sobor's supermarkets with no luck finding the compass. Larger residential buildings (including the office block in Vybor) didn't gave me one too. The only interesting things I came upon there were two more canteens - now I don't need to carry any canned drinks :). Checking the deer stands near Veresnik got me an AKM - I got rid of all my coke and placed it in my ALICE backpack as a backup gun. While I was in Stary Sobor I've decided to head to the tents. I knew I was risking a lot - according to your tips it was a hot-spot for bandits. I've checked to area around with my binoculars but couldn't see any activity. So I went there to scavange the tents. I was hoping for some super-duper stuff or at least some magazines for my M4. The only thing I took from these tents was Glock17 with a couple of clips. Still better than the colt. Crawling out of the town, heading south-west I've seen a sudden movement. Another survivor, sprinting through Stary Sobor and getting chased by more and more zeds. After a few seconds of observation I found that he was in trouble - zombies literally swarmed him, but he somehow got to this large industrial hall. A horde of zeds followed him upstairs, I heard shooting (sounded like the Lee Enfield to me). I've made my decision to go there quickly and help him. I shot a couple of them from a large distance and then rushed upstairs, clearly saying that I was going to help him out. When I got upstairs, I finished the last zeds standing and... found no one in there. No body, no living person. I thought "maybe he got away with the ladder at the other side of the hall", but I couldn't see him from there. No movement near the tents, nor in town. He just disappeared. I made my way out of there. I used almost a whole clip of .22 to help this guy, got nothing from it. Not a "thank you", not a bullet to my head. Nothing. On my way south I bumbed into a... tent. Geez, I really didn't noticed it until it was right under my feet. Excited, I checked the contents. Empty. Then I left for the nearest pond, having some kind of a castle behind me. More q's to you guys: - Is finding a compass always a pain in the arse? - Is finding anything useful (other than a pile of AK's) in Stary Sobor military tents possible? - How do I use the Glock's flashlight? - What happened to this guy I encountered in Stary Sobor? If he got killed by zeds, did he turned into one or what? - If I ever decide to help someone in a similar situation, how do I tell them I'm going to help? When I first seen him he was like 350 metres away. Even when I was right downstairs, I got no reply from him (I thought he's too occupied saving his life...). - What are your experiences in helping people in this kind of dangerous situations? Have you made any friends that way? Did they thank you? Or did they shot you in the back when the zeds were gone?

I guess there's something wrong with me, as playing the mod for two weeks now (on populated servers only) I haven't encountered a single hacker. Or is it that some of you guys are just exaggerating the problem?

NOT WORTH PLAYING (HACKERS)
[email protected] replied to Skullcrack's topic in New Player Discussion
Actually I believe Bohemia is working on fixing it right now. Last Arma II patch fixed the item duplication exploit (as changelog states) -
Actually playing Arma II Free + Operation Arrowhead is a legitimate way of playing the game. You just have worse textures. So, to clarify this: DayZ is FREE, at least until it goes standalone. But you NEED to have original Operation Arrowhead. You CAN use Arma II Free legitimately. What the hell was that? Are Croatian people worse than any others? Or do you think it's some kind of a third world country? Go back to school and stop making fun of people because of their nationality. Your post just proved who's the cheap bastard here.

Maybe you should share the solution, so the others would benefit from it in the future?

Having trouble finding livestock
[email protected] replied to CoolCain10's topic in New Player Discussion
Generally look for large, open areas. Usually you can find some cows in there. Just noticed a couple of them south west of Lopatino. Why did you said "I'm no noob"? Is it something to be ashamed of or what? -
Thanks for replies guys! So, the clouds *always* move west to east? How stupid is that, seriously? I'd rather look for a compass and some other useful stuff in Pustoshka. I also have to go there to replenish my canteen - my canned drink supplies won't last forever. I'll soon decide what to do, as in fact I'd rather avoid hot-spots like the NW airfield. Now I've got to go to work, but stay tuned for another report in the afternoon :).

A newest update on my adventures. I almost got to Pustoshka supermarket, but with a lot of pain taken on my way there. And no, I'm not talking about one single zed encounter. I've left Zelenogorsk, heading north to the woods. I entered a black house right before entering the forest. Guess what - a box of matches. Not a single one in the supermarket the other day, I've found what I looked for in a simple residential building. My luck. I still needed some ammo and other useful stuff, so I've decided to continue my journey to Pustoshka. I've approached Sosnovka to check out the tool shed, but decided to leave. Too large open area to risk life for a considerably small loot. So I went back into the woods with an idea of getting to the barn north west of Myshkino. After half an hour of walk I realised myself that something was wrong. The terrain I saw sorrounding me didn't matched topography of the map. I realised I was... lost. Not having a better idea, I slaughtered a cow and a goat which were eating their grass peacefully. I gathered the meat and started a fire. Right after the meat was cooked, I put out the fire. Hoping nobody noticed me, I ate all the meat I couldn't carry and got my blood to 11500. With my stomach full and belongings gathered I continued my march looking further for some landmarks. The evening was close and I've noticed first stars. Before that I've tried to tell where the west was basing on the position of the Sun, but it was impossible due to lots of hills around me. So I started looking for Ursa Major. Not being sure if what I found was in fact this constellation I asked my gf (who is an astronomy geek) if I was right. She confirmed. Following the Polaris I found the way out and... lucky again. I got out of the woods *exactly* at the place. In front of the barn. One can of beans inside. Not being able to carry more, I ate it right away. Then ventured in to the woods again and went sleep in a safe distance. Tomorrow I'm hitting all the deer stands nearby and then - the Pustoshka supermarket. After this adventure I realised I was very lucky to find my way thanks to the stars and my dad, who taught me long years ago how to find the Polaris (and thanks to my gf, who confirmed my finding :*). But I have to ask you guys - how the hell do I find north next time, if i can't see the stars because of clouds? I have a watch, so finding the right direction basing on the Sun's position is a piece of cake. So, once again: how do I find north in the night, if I can't see the stars?

Well, it's a zombie apocalypse survival game. Not being afraid of dying would mean no fun and excitement. This is why I always play on populated servers.

Hi Sula. Compared to you (gaming since 1986) I'm a rather a newbie gamer :). Love this game too. Can't wait until it gets standalone, bugfree and cheater-free (haven't seen one, but the stories give me creeps :P)
