But, guys, you're not defenceless even without a "weapon". Three words: zombie fucking aggro train. -

YES Just try it and see. If it sucks, take it out. Honestly, I think it might turn into a trainwreck which would be delicious to watch (but not participate in). -
THE Night is TOO DAMN DARK Thread. Others will be deleted etc.
underscore replied to Slamz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's already a CIT ticket open regarding the new tonal mapping. It's not addressing the night per se, but clearly demonstrates that ARMA's shadow values are now more out whack than ever: https://dev-heaven.net/issues/32765 -
No, the problem is that it doesn't. And it's not just night that's an issue. Daytime lighting is now uglier and less realistic - yeah, you heard me right: less realistic - than ever. Look, if rocket wants to make dayz nights ridiculously dark, then that's his prerogative, I suppose. But, when batshit ideas like this are forced onto the core game.... well, let's just say that I sympathize with the OP's sentiments.

Dynamic lighting has gone screwy
underscore replied to witherfield's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, it's the "improved tone mapping" in the new beta build that we are seeing here, If rocket insists on ridiculously dark nights, then that's one thing. But, why insist on fucking up the daytime as well? And, more importantly, stop fucking up ARMA for the sake of DayZ. I don't understand how this mod is allowed to force its bullshit onto the base game. -

Why is everyone moaning? Well, to read it as moaning is missing the whole point of a forum. A forum is venue for the discussion and debate on matters of public interest. 'Nuff said.

Well, apart from: Admittedly, that shouldn't be a concern to DayZ players, but as an ARMA player this bothers me. A lot. Sigh.

DayZ has become Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch
underscore replied to underpaidorphan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We've been over this again and again. I'm getting tired of having to re-hash the same damn explanations over and over. Playing with a squad just changes this from DM to TDM. We are asking for social interaction within the game. Getting together with your clan buddies from outsside the game and then ganking everybody else you see defeats the original stated purpose of the game as a "social experiment". But, maybe I am the one who is delusional and full of shit, and this is exactly what rocket had in mind (y'know, metagaming and all that jazz). If this was the intent all along, then I'll just fuck off, I guess. -

After having a bit of a think regarding my previous post, I'm no longer keen on the idea. Honestly, how would being able to "read" another player's humanity score differ from the survivor-bandit skin thing we had going on before? In theory, that should have led to a self-policing situation, but descended into anarchy regardless. And, here's why: In a multiplayer game where you can just server hop constantly' date=' there is no possibility of developing a negative social reputation. Policing cannot occur because the perps cannot be identified, nor hunted down. So, no consequences. Which leads us back to: Yes. All the Internet Tough Guys will cry and call it punitive, but the game simply needs to make mass murder harder. Don't dare get rid of it, but make it more of a challenge. Make it so that becoming a psychopathic bandit is going to require some serious balls. Or, I guess we could just overrun everybody with zombies to the point that they barely have time to shoot at other players. -

So, players shouldn't be punished for the choices? Wait a tick, why did rocket include a humanity score in the first place? If having a low or high humanity does not carry any penalties or rewards, then it's just window dressing and should be gotten rid of altogether. I don't know, but it sounds to me like some of you want a consequence free environement where everybody can do whatever they please and trololol off into the distance? Now who are the carebears? But, there is something to the line of reasoning that the game mechanics themselves should actively seek to exert the least amount of social influence and policing, instead enabling players to do these things themselves. Ok, how about this then: Allow a player to 'investigate' another players' humanity score. It would work pretty much the way "study body" does right now, except on living players. This way it's possible for players to assess the character and trustworthiness of strangers they meet. Of course, just like the "study body" mechanic, this info would only become available at point blank range. So, you'd still have to take a tremendous risk if you want to "sniff" the other guy out, but now at least it'd be possible for "good guys" to trust each other, or conversely for "bad guys" to verify the true extent of one another's badassery. Also, if you want to make this extra immersive, then instead of revealing a humanity score, this technique would infrom you something along the lines of "This dude is the Care-iest of Carebears" or "Holy Shit, this dude is the Ted Bundy of Chernogorsk!" -

As an exalted member of the nefarious Carebear Illuminati, I just want to assure my fellow Bandit Brethren that we are not plotting to remove your freedoms nor do we want to punish you. We are Carebears after all, we want to hug and cherish every last one of you villanous scumbags. This game wouldn't be the same without you. Let's take the humanity-respawn system that I've been proposing as an example. Many of you think that it's designed to clip your dark, feathery Fallen Angel wings, when in truth it would be the greatest gift ever. Yes, under it the bandit life will become harder and it will de-incentivize many players from being trigger happy, but for the true badasses out there this will be a Godsend. You want to be the meanest mofo in the valley? Well, now it's going to take some serious balls. Murder is going to mean something. Engaging in it will now make you somebody special, somebody who has the cohones to incur a serious penalty just because you cannot control your urge to kill. Lets's admit it, the guys and gals who love this game are masochists at heart. My radical suggestion may scare and anger you at this moment, but deep down every true bandit amongst you craves the pain, the horror and the challenge of such a sadistic system. Those long lines of notches on the stock of your CZ rifle will transform you from griefing douchenozzles into a gaming elite more hardcore than anything else out there. C'mon, you know you want it. Legends will be born. -

Two words for you guys: artificial motherfucking scarcity. Ok, that was pretty facetious, but give it some serious thought. I'm not going to go into it right now, but if you wish I can elucidate further. Also, to those that are worried about their freedom, please realize that freedom is essentially what we are petitioning for. Being forced into always playing with a KoS ROE in order to survive is actually limiting freedom. I love PvP and this game needs it, but I don't want to see what should be a complex and nuanced game reduced to this one aspect. I want more choices, more freedom. -

I'd like to take this moment to once again push the idea of respawn timeouts that are tied to one's humanity score. To reiterate ("on last week's episode") the concept is simple: each murder (NOT bandit kill) garners the perpetrator a cumulative 2 hr timeout penalty before they are allowed to respawn. I think this is one sexy mofo of an idea because it should (1) help ameliorate the monotony of a strictly KoS game, (2) make the game harder, and, most importantly of all, (3) make the game more fun. Previously I touched upon some of the social dynamics that would result from this mechanic and now I'd like to expand a little further on those ideas. Like I said, bandit clans would now have to contend with the likelihood of internal griefing. When killing your badass bandit leader means you can lock him out of the game for days at a time, the temptation will almost certainly be too much for some to resist. Think about it. First, just as one would expect with a band of murderous cutthroats, mutinies and coup d'etats will become a serious problem. Shoot the head honcho in the back and you have several days to consolidate power before he can come back into the game. Perfect. Second, I was thinking that bullying might develop. The killing of less popular gang members could start occurring. Some idiot fucks up or misses an easy shot? Kill him, because he deserves to sit out for a few hours or days. Is that cool? Not necessarily, but it's not going to be that simple either. Why? Well, inevitably we return to the first problem: bandit peons have so much less to lose compared to the higher echelon guys with tons of kills under their belts. Won't this just lead to total anarchy? Well, I'd suggest that anarchy amongst bandits is how things should play out. But, again, it's not going to be that simple. Expect bandit leaders to adopt the elegant solution of just getting others to do their dirty work for them while ruling from behind the throne. Hey, once again, isn't that pretty much how it works in real life? Cool, huh? Next question: in this kind of system, who will actually be stupid enough to do all the killing? The bloodthirsty psychopaths who just can't help themselves, LDO. And trust me, we'll have more than a few of those; it'll be quite interesting to see who will be willing to sacrifice their own security simply for the sake of getting their sadistic rocks off. Finally, we'd probably see a system of 'blooding' whereby new bandit recruits would be forced to prove themselves before being allowed to join the group proper - "Wanna join our gang? Go into Cherno and bring back three sets of survivor ears, then we'll talk." After all, if they don't have a sufficient number of kills under their belt, then you can't keep newbie bandits in-line as they won't have yet developed a sufficient fear of death. C'mon, guys, this stuff could be epic. To be continued... Oh, BTW, watching a dayz stream while writing this. Four guys raiding a town. Guess what the orders were? "Remember kill everything. Kill every motherfucking player you see. DO NOT hesitate." Watched a few vids and streams over the past days and I've yet to hear anything different. it's always the same iinstructions. d_d -

Ynefel, just wanted to say that it seems like you're trying to have a discussion on this subject. I treated you like a common troll and flamed you pretty hard in my last post - I apologize. If you can look past the vitriol, I think we might be able to eventually get somewhere with this discussion.
