Liking the bear trap idea! I saw that in an interview a while back, jizzed a little. Are backpack loot spawn much lower now? I've gotten everything again, three crashed heli sites but I haven't seen ANY backpacks. I've hit all churches and supermarkets on the southwest quadrant, inc. Cherno... Used to see a good number of them. Also, can we get an ability to combine DMR mags for FN FAL? Just so it has a lifespan outside of heli crashes? <3

Yeah had a quick look on the wiki and it says an effective range of 400m. I usually use the Winny (even over things like M16) 'cos I like single shot rifles, this thing just feels a lot more powerful and longer range. Louder though :( I think it would be ok to leave the gun in heli crash loot table now I have had a bit of play with it, but at least be able to convert DMR/M24 mags to FAL given they are both NATO.

I didn't like 1.7.1 and beyond. Not trying to QQ, just add feedback as a tester with 50 hours + and a few week long lives. I got a fair way into the game, almost to the leaderboards. Kitted out etc. Got 1.7.1.5. I was proned in Stary at 11:30pm server time, a zed saw me through a tent, *teleported*, didn't run, over and one-hit, KO'd me and I bled out. I had ~9K blood (didn't know lower blood meant you got KO'd :( ). That isn't suspenseful, it's just dumb. I know detection isn't 100% atm and it's still bugged, but it wrecked the game currently for me. I started again. No gun is interesting, but combined with zeds in structures now, is just silly. It doesn't make it harder (well it does, but it's easy to combat still), just a hell of a lot more time consuming. Combined with ninja-zombies e.g I was crouch walking outside a barn at about 1am server time, the zeds in the barn fucking HEARD me, aggro'd and chased me. Lost them quite easily, but the fact is the stealth aspect is fucked, and it's basically gone. The game now is: Sprint in, aggro, lose them, loot. Repeat. I see no point in sneaking, even proning, as they just see me regardless. Zeds see me even when they aren't looking. They aggro when I'm proned on the other side of a building. It's just sprint everywhere and lose with the new LoS mechanic. Starting without a gun is cool and all, I can cope with it just fine, but I honestly don't know why the difficulty needed to be upped for starting ones' life. The difficulty needed to be added on survival. THAT'S the easy part. Starting out probably already was the most difficult bit. Re: super detection, my suggestion is that if you are detected via auditory means (heard), that they merely INVESTIGATE the source. If it's REALLY loud (i.e gunshot, full sprint), then they run to said location. Otherwise just normal pace. And remove from inside structures. It's just frustrating meaning you have to prone it all the way somewhere else or just sprint around like a 'tard and lose them, which is just tedious. Still love the idea of the game, I'll just be waiting until future updates (hopefully which correct the current issues) to play again. tl;dr Game is now sprint around, get aggro and lose them then loot. Stealth is gone, and there is no point sneaking. Zeds in structures is stupid. GG.

Oooh more discussion, forgot about this! I don't think segregation via classes would be good, that would lead to endless balancing. I think it would best be implemented just to add a past to your character, and just add ANY reason for teamwork. -

So I just updated to 1.7.1.5, jumped on. I was proning (at 11pm game time) and I had scoped the area out, no zeds that I could see. I'm moving along, I aggro a zed, somehow, and it runs up, one-hits me, knocks me out with a massive bleed and I die. I've been alive like 20... something hours and I've been able to *fight* zeds off, this whole bam and you're out thing just seems a bit off. All for zeds being a threat but O.H.K.O seems a bit nuts!

Agreeing with OP for now, game was fun, and stealth meant something as of 1.7.0, now there's just no point. I was running towards a zed that didn't see me, then I ran around a house (now between me and zed), and held shift to walk, and about 10 seconds later I hear it aggro and start chasing me. The new zeds are so easy to lose it's not funny. I lost a whole town's worth on one building and a few trees. Get to mil spawn buildings, surprise surprise, they're all barricaded and camped out, and you can't clear them or kill the campers, because that's where the guns are. The game WAS fun, but it's just not now. I played 50 hrs and had no intent on slowing down, but it's just boring now. The new detection mechanics, I know they are bugged, but they are just stupid. How they were was good, just a bit stronger would have made it good. tl;dr: there's no reason to sneak anymore, may as well just sprint and exploit LoS, gun spawns are just camped out because you're defenceless. "But I don't think that "classes" should have different starting items" I thought having something relevant to their particular past was more immersive than a bandage and painkillers? Ghillie suit doesn't have a backpack but it still looks good :P -

There would be an actual advantage to teaming up, without forcing it or really, changing the game in any real way if you didn't want to play that way. None of the classes really make it easier to go killing everyone or doing something really affects "Classes, as a whole, would be fairly pointless for DayZ given that those who do survive have to be very versatile at all times. " And that's true. Which is why it's important that everyone can still do everything, but certain past occupations make it easier to do certain things. And re: the gun thing, that's why I put the ? there. I think an empty rifle would be suitable. I personally would choose the mechanic. -

No, I won't berate you for being a child, being a CoDboizz or something along those lines (or say your tears are delicious; they aren't). 1.7.1 zeds were a bit overboard given the bugs still present. But I liked where it was going. I'm up to about 18-19 days alive. Nearly 300 zed kills, 24-slot coyote pack, an AKM with 11 mags (previously M16+203, Winchester, and Crossbow with 12 bolts <--most fun right there). I had 7.5K blood but vampired a cow back up to 12K, and have 7 cooked meat still on my person. I have 8 water bottles and I know where pumps and lakes/ponds are. Enough bandages to get more if I need them. Every gadget but NVG's. Had a fully repaired Hilux but gave it away (no real need). I have successfully completed "survive". I could now do it forever. I'm having fun still fully decked out, but I had WAY more fun when I wasn't risking as much (I'm not overly attached, but 22 hrs is something you don't want down the drain real quick ;P) and getting around high pop areas. It is *meant* to be difficult to find things. You aren't meant to just stumble on the best loot. The rarity and importance of loot now is exactly what makes it fun. And learning zeds is what makes it fun. Don't get pissy if you die 10 times before getting anywhere. Get up, dust off, re-do it, ***smarter***. Just think next time that the JOURNEY is in fact the fun part of this game, not the end with all the loot and gear to get you through it all. This applies to life too, not just games. -

Not sure. *Your system specs: i5 760, 4GB, and AMD 6850 *Timeline of events before/after error: Logged in, climbed ladder and ouch. Used last bandage from it. Might suggest not needing bandage from fall damage... I cant imagine a fall that would require a bandage.

No, BETA patch. The mod is in alpha, but the BETA patch for ARMA2 is required in the 1.7.1 update of the ALPHA mod. -
1.7.1 Zombies vs Predator I'd say they are pretty evenly matched. I reckon even Preds would have some trouble going about undetected being invisible, and having shoulder mounted rockets. They'd just spawn all over him. Love the new spawn equip, and most changes but the vis and bugged LoS "features" are a wee bit... yeah. I know, I know, ray-tracing means its bugged but the visiblity is just crazy. If you gave them that range but the angle was nearly only directly forward maybe... There's challenging, and I'm all for making them more difficult, cos @ 1.7.0 they were a cakewalk, and there's just stupid.
