I keep aiming to be a rogue medic, but I keep stumbling on .50 cals and NVGs, and I never want to risk them :/ -
(watch in >720 or it looks like ass)I got one recently and thought "so why so rare?" This is why. The distance is 1400m. Good luck hitting that with a DMR or an M24. Even if you wangle a hit with those at this range it's not a kill (except the head, of course)

The reason I showed it in a training mod was so you could see the bullet speed and range clearly. In retrospect I should have added a clip I the DMR or M24 to show how ineffective they are comparatively. You see people bragging about DMR's when an M107/AS50 would clean them up at range ;) -

Haha Siddhi methamphetamines... "friendlies?! got some crack?!" , I like your suggestions though, the engineer/mechanic being able to take metal from wreck seems like a top idea! It's amazing how many people see the word "classes" and turn on this-isn't-WoW-o-vision. -

So IRL, the RPG is one of the most produced weapon systems on the planet, it's easy to use, and ammo is fairly common for it. It's already in ArmA2, it has a few different types of warheads, the slots it would take up would be fairly balanced and overall it would make as an interesting addition to the world. Hell, it'd make some carebears cry. Why not?

Anyone got tips on finding friendlies? Anything I type in chat seems to just be ignored : / Closest I got was asking if someone was in Cherno, then they were about 1/2 hour later after I had died. I've seen flares etc, tried to team up but noone responded. All my IRL friends are consolefags/PC gamers but don't have ARMA or can't be assed getting it for this. :blush: Any Au/Nz chaps wanting to squad up and have a better chance at this?

I don't even bother with the ANZ servers. I always red chain, lag out, and just general connection issues, if I EVER get into a game (not often give it's 50/50 almost always). They just feel like Home Brand servers to me. Seattle and LA are good for Aus players.

I had this problem too; I made it all the way to Devils' Castle before finding a box. Then I realised I was looking in the wrong spot. They spawn in residential areas like houses, but fairly rarely. I have seen a few in there. Supermarkets have a MUCH higher chance. ALWAYS go to supermarkets. They have a better % to spawn backpacks, and also matches. Go to supermarkets /thread. -
Is there any way to get the crossbow (now that I think of it... the Winchester, too?) into vanilla arma2/regular OA at all? I just got the "Shooting range" mod as I wanted to test my newly acquired AS50 and get the feel for it before using it (the thing is badass, can pinpoint a limb from 1200m :P ), and I thought it would be awesome-o if I could somehow train with the crossbow in there too. It's a really awesome mod, I can highly recommend it. It has settings out the wazoo, and it's even got a camera that follows your projectile. One thing I did learn is just how badass the Enfield is! I didn't know it had such a massive range on it. It might even be worth the noise now.

That's what I thought but I think it has to be made available within the SR mod. It works by having "boxes" of guns (pistols, civ. guns, rifles, launchers). I think the mod author would need to incorporate it into the mod. -

All gadgets, an AS50 + 5 mags, M9SD + 6 mags, plenty of everything else :) All from one guy, already dead just outside Cherno, found him after crawling 2 1/2 hours from Zub castle with a broken leg. Had 1k blood when I found the body. Was SO relieved.

I just crawled from Vyshnoye to Cherno with broken legs. Set something up to hold your W key down, set your bearing and leave it. I got there, and on my way out stumbled across a dead body with NVGs, a rangefinder, an AS50 w/ 5 mags, an M4A1 CCO SD, an M9 SD w/ 6 mags and a coyote pack. I was rewarded for my efforts :)

It may be an idea to just get rid of the broken leg mechanic until it actually works properly. If it's restricted to things like bear traps and HUGE falls, where you actually would. Or add morphine back to starting inventory. Crawling on rocks, opening doors, TINY drops, random zombie hits... Maybe add an in game item: "Milk" that gives you bones that don't break at the lightest touch. I finally got geared up again after 2 hours, literally as I'm leaving the house I got my matches from, and a door breaks my leg. This doesn't add any brand of fun. It's just tedious. Not in a good way. Nowhere near a hospital, and morphine is as rare as diamonds in this game now. I haven't seen ANY since 1.7.0. In my entire life, I've done crazier shit than in game (sans being hit by an infected, but... yeah) and never have I broken a bone. And the idea that a magic morphine stick and you can sprint again... really? And I certainly couldn't crawl like that with a broken bone. INB4 "this-isn't-the-mod-for-you": just think if this retarded mechanic was added in the next patch. Would it really make the game more immersive?

So I broke my leg on a door up north, near Stary. I JUST got to Cherno hospital (YES, I crawled the entire way. It took over two and a half hours) I get to Cherno. The hospital, and several other buildings are just leveled. I'm kinda cut, 'cos y'know, I wanted morphine for the many hour journey. Is this even possible legitimately? And if it's not... HOW does one just *level* a building in DayZ? Do frag grenades manage that? It dropped my frames (usually 60) to about 10 too. This was on Seattle 126.

What a champion. Such an insightful comment. Anywho. People seem to have the main counter-arguments or criticisms for this idea as saying either a) it's a sandbox, you make your own way/"class" (shouldn't have used that word), or b) limitations on what we do, blahdeblah. Firstly, no limitation, everyone would still do everything. Different people would just be better at different things, like IRL. I also feel it would add a singular reason to not just shoot on sight. Currently I do everything just as well as anyone, so why the fuck do I need anyone else around, if they are just a threat? In a real apoc situation, I know other people would have skills to me more valuable than beans, so I wouldn't just KoS. I'd love a reason to risk all my shit to meet a stranger other than "just 'cos". And re: the "sandbox, make your own dreams, man" comments... This idea just extends that functionality. It could be implemented as such that it wouldn't impinge on the beautiful world that is the sandbox. If we currently spawned with nothing, and rocket said: "hey guys, in the next patch we're adding spawn inventory would you prefer that you spawned with: a) a bandage and painkillers, and everyone is exactly the same. With the exact same goofy fucking hat. b) items/clothing specific to who you were before the breakout, possibly with a skill set to match that" I wonder how many people would say A. EDIT: Oh and someone asked about staying alive since 1.6.0-ish? I completely avoided 1.7.1.2 as I saw a video of just sheer madness, but I played every other update. Just stuck to the wilderness. Ponds and animals, friend. Since posting this I've started again twice though haha. One time I shot someone at NWAF and just completely forgot about the impending zombie horde :0 -

Well, I didn't have morphine in the first place as it's only in medical loots spawns, and I spawned at Prig and avoided Cherno. BUT, I got back to Cherno via crawling for 2+hrs, set W key up and set the bearing, went out for a bit. When I got back there was still about 10 mins crawl to get there. Got morphine from the back of hospital, fixed leg, got out. Saw a dead survivor with an AS50 + 5 mags, M9 SD and every gadget in the game, including RF's and NVG's (how, I don't know. I have NO idea how someone that well geared would have been anywhere NEAR Cherno let alone died just outside of it) so it turned out to be WELL worth the effort. On the journey I got down to just over 1K blood too. Now I'm just outside of Stary again and back to 12K blood (found 2 cows and a pig on the way up), and no broken leg. So yeah, sometimes it can be worth it to crawl all the way back, hahaha. Now I have a coyote pack with *2* morphine injectors (and a motherfucking GIANT rifle on my back). This won't happen again. Funny story, I hit a deer stand on the way back up, and it had morphine :/ A ~1/200 chance! I guess for now we*have* to make a stop at a hospital before we go north. -
Forget the bloodbag as that requires other players (unless you have friends to play with), get hunting gear from apartments and supermarkets. Go kill a cow and get around 7K blood back. Morphine is best to stock up at a hospital before going anywhere major. BUT you can have a chance to get it at a military spawn like deer stands and tents/hangars. I just saw painkillers and a morphine injector in a deer stand (but it's REALLY low chance of it). Depending on where you are, Berez hospital is your friend

I'm all for the actual mechanic (well... it needs work). I love the idea. But currently it adds the punishment at times that is just stupid, and completely irrelevant, I just think for now it might be an idea to just piss it off until it actually works as intended. 6/7 times I've broken a bone in this mod was either a glitch or just ridiculous (falling off building with the ladder hoo-hah). I'll accept the time a zed hit me. But the others are just tedioussss -

I'm in Vyshnoye, so it's a looooong crawl back to Elektro. It's direct south, so my plan is to sit something to hold down my W key and go do other stuff, checking occasionally. I avoided the cities on this spawn as I spawned near Prig and just went North. There were NO morphine spawn points, unless it spawned military loot, and in the military loot (0.99%) was a morphine. If the mechanic can be implemented in a believable way; awesome-o, 100% support. Currently though, it's just a buggy, dumb hindrance most of the time that can only be fixed with a magic wand. -
Why is this thing only found in crashed heli's? I found two crashed heli's in the space of about 20 minutes, the first one had an AS50 (I jizzed) but no ammo. The next had a FAL with 4 mags, so I decided to take it as I only had an M1911 with 3, so I would have been screwed with any real encounter. And a loaded gun is better to me than an empty one. I know it uses NATO and the more common rifles like the AK and M16 are smaller caliber, but what makes it so valuable? It feels like a similar stopping power to the AKM. And why is the ammo not at military spawns? I'd love to be able to restock via DMR mags or M24 rounds like you currently can with ACP and M1911... It's a bit crazy trying to resupply the rifle at random heli crashes (although if they keep spawning like this I should be set!)
