Was very active on the original mod, so happy to see this baby finally into alpha on standalone! Although I haven't had luck playing yet. Every server I can see has the red X next to it, and I get "bad version; server rejected connection" every time I attempt to connect at all. As a side note I had no issues running the mod and installing manually, but is there something I'm missing? I've checked for updates via Steam and also tried enabling beta access to see and nothing.

Spawning in battleships etc. Obvious hacks.

Game is unplayable in it's current state. I played for two hours today and killed by hackers 4 seperate times on 4 different servers. I've played online games and many competitive FPS's before, seen a few hackers in loooong hours of play on some. But this is just amazing. Surely there are more fun things to do with haxx0r powerz than just nuking servers.

Oh ok, that explains it. I swear the last patches have just been trying to get the connectivity better and add security and it's all just gone to shit in those aspects anyway. 1,000,000 players would do that though I guess. Either that or all the dev time is going towards the ArmA3 build of DayZ ;)

I stopped playing a few weeks ago but since I saw heli's were back I am giving it another go... What the fuck happened to load times? I've been sitting on loading for 9 1/2 minutes now (timed). I used to get in 3 minutes at the absolute most. Anyone else finding this?

My 1.7.2.5 patch notes
mind_grenade replied to andrestander (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Damn, I opened this and the official 1.7.1.5 and thought this wasthe actual one, the first patch notes I've seen in a while that made me go "theeeeeeeere we go!!! These would be good changes, coming from someone with a lot of hours in DayZ, especially the vehicles. -
Aw great, some actual cohesive, well thought out replies :) I am DEFINITELY a chase is better type guy, hence why I played 100 hours, and why I was always looking for topend loot that I had no idea what I was going to do with as I'm not a big PvP guy. Yep. The current problem with vehicles is because they are as rare as hen's teeth no-one wants to lose them and they become treasure chest up in the hills. Serving no purpose other than being some kind of boring trophy for clans that find them or know the spawns. I think if vehicles were more common people would actually use them in interesting ways and they would actually add to the dynamic instead of just being a bragging right.

For starters; I'm just throwing my feedback on the pile. Not trying to whinge, complain, what-have-you. Just adding my honest feedback after 100 hours on this mod. Most people jump on after 2 hours and give a review. It started out great, what with all the hype (I started around 1.5.8, mid-May) on the gaming sites. Was great fun, a refreshing experience. Hard to learn (new to the engine), but slightly rewarding. It wasn't long before I was able to gear up quite consistently. Once you get the infected behaviour down, it's pretty straight forward. I stuck to barns and deer stands off the beaten path to NWAF, then geared there and kept exploring. My average lifetime was around 10-15 hours for the first half or so. I then had my stint of hanging around Cherno, which began as exhilarating, given all the tension and unknown of player interaction. A lot of new players came in, and it removed a lot of the mystery as most people would shoot even if you posed no threat (as we all know verrrrry well if you ever read anything on these forums). This made high-pop areas quite boring, especially coastal towns, given the zero-fucks-given mentality of freshspawns. In the last 50 or so hours I died maybe 3-4 times. Mostly just due to impatience in high-risk spots like NWAF, Stary etc. After I die I lose interest for a few days. This is partially due to my personality, but I think it also gives way to why I believe this mod may be lacking in replayability in the grand scheme. Once you get good at gearing, and you die, the punishment for me was not losing my stuff (I honestly have the most fun with just a Winny or a crossbow over AS50's and NVG's etc), but the inevitable boredom of getting off the coast. It takes a good 1 1/2 hours just to get back off there. And once you've done it a good few times, it just gets old. The last few times I died was not "oh no my gear" it was "oh no my time". I like to play games for hours but life does not always allow. And having to do a running simulator for 2 hours after you do avoiding bugs to get back to having decent gear again is just boring. Don't get me wrong, I loved playing this game, but respawns just get old, really fast. I like the punishment of losing my character and all my gear and perma-death, because fuck yeah, I got attached to that shit and losing it made shit real... but I don't like the inevitable boredom of running. I'm just glad I have a Logitech G510 so I can put a macro set to autorun and go make some tea or get my giblets wet while Pvt. Dickface runs his tits off to Stary. The other flaw is the playerbase, which you can't really flaw the dev's for, but they really need to add more incentive to do something other than PvP/murder. People often say "make your own game", and I have, I've been the medic, Robin Hood (some HAPPY players that receive Urals and GAZ's for just being kind, haha), raiding camps up north, given random people vehicles, tons of stuff. I can't really think of many things I haven't done in this game, and it doesn't matter who you are because this game simply revolves around PvP in it's current state, and nothing an individual does will change that. Again, PvP is a beautiful and very fun dynamic in this game, but when it's just about the only thing to do the whole mod just suffers. My suggestion with the game in its current state would be to make non-military "endgame" loot (such as cars) much more accessible to newbies and coast-dwellers... and everyone, and make guns rarer. Cars are so rare (why, I'm not sure. It does add value, but could you imagine Pokemon if you only got a bicycle right near the end?). I didn't see my first one for about 17 hours. They should be sooo much more accessible, and common. Especially for new coast-dwellers. Take away the boredom of Running Simulator 2012. I think much more common vehicles and less guns would change the dynamic up quite a bit. It's alpha, TRY different things, not this odd tweaky business. In my time as the Robin Hood, we followed and watched what some of the clueless nubs we gave vehicles to, and it was so much more interesting than the current state. People that get cars currently are usually vets, and then they drive them an hour up into the hills and do... nothing with them. Cars are currently so rare no one wants to do anything with them for fear of loss and they just get stashed, which is insanely boring. At least make the smaller vehicles with little storage space and purely for transport more common. So yeah, gratz if you actually read it. It was a fun game, but there is really just nothing to do in it any more. I've had a great time, and won't be uninstalling in case there's a big update with generators and floodlights and player-controlled areas, or something that would spice the dynamic up (not bear traps. That's probably the dumbest addition there could be... no offense haha), but yeah. It's out for me for now (this isn't one of those weird threats, again, I'm just adding my honest feedback). Thanks for your time. P.S I have seen *****1***** hacker in 100 hours. In my 98th hour the whole server was teleported to debug plains and turned into a dog. Meh. Must've been lucky.

Biggest/best camp you've found so far?
mind_grenade replied to mind_grenade's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's foolish to think you won't ever need the guns, but most people aren't even giving anyone a chance and just killing straight away. Which a lot of the time, robs people of the high-tier experience in DayZ, but if you give someone a chance a much more evolved experience can unfold. Human interaction is much more spontaneous and surprising than continuing along without them 'cos they're dead People whinge that DayZ is a deathmatch, but they don't get that every time you kill someone without absolutely confirming they are KoS hostile you are just adding to the situation. -
My new hobby (as some of you may know) is finding hoarder camps and redistributing to nubs/people who don't KoS. We find probably 2 big-ish (roughly 3 or more vehics counts as big-ish) camps a night on various servers in 2-3 hours, so in the last few weeks we've had our fair share of big camps. We've got it down to a science now, it's amazing how common it is for people to hide things in the same spots. With amazing reliability. Like you could almost give grids for each "camp spawn" (that's what we call them they're that reliable) along the north of the map. It's insane. What's the biggest one you've ever found? From memory mine was about 12 vehicles, 3 of them Urals, about 30 tents each paaaacked to the brim with shit. I think that camp had about 14 AS50's in total, 12 MK48's, 13 Ghillies, about 15 NVG's, 15 M4 CCO SD's, 52 SD mags (no joke), 60+ M107 mags, tons and tons of vehicle bits, the lot. It had every single item in game at least once. Tons and tons of bear traps (which we placed *all*, around 30 of them, around the camp for a night before stealing it all for teh lulz). EDIT: Can't have one of these threads without pics! Here's one of the Urals from said camp

Are Hackers only seen by PVPer's?
mind_grenade replied to fearz0r's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
ANZ 5 got turned into dogs and tele'd miles off the map last night, and that is the first time in 99 hours that I've encountered a hack of any sorts. I mean my legs have randomly broken at times, but most of those could quite easily have been sniper shots. I could have screamed hack at other times, but odds are it was just good play. I also played BF3 (hit over 550 hours on that little guy; I do like a good arcade experience too) and encountered 3 hackers. 3. In >550 hours. That's one every 7.5 days of play. But yes, every BF3 related forum is rife with hack reports and hackusations, because too many people fail to believe they were just bested. Same with this game, same with every online game. -
Ohhhhh.... the MK48, it's a beast. It fires NATO rounds, and 100 round box mags... For the uneducated, it's a fully automatic DMR/FN FAL with 100 round mags. For the real lamens, it's one of the best guns in the game. M4 is much much more common and not all that useful.

Lol I'm not giving out coords you turkey. I'm quite simply going to randomly impart it upon strangers we meet that don't shoot as a first reaction

One of the tents had 3 NVGs and 2 RF's, like I said couldn't be arsed screencapping those too. Stash wouldn't be complete without at least two of each of them haha. And for the people that want it, you must pass the Robin Hood (again, it's all in the sig) test first by not being a shoot-on-sight prick. I only dispatch these types of goods to lucky citizens who take a chance with their fellow survivors instead of just blasting them away. You never know, you might have already shot and blown your chance ;) This is my way of adding a reason not to kill anyone you see :)

Found this little guy on NZ6. Two guys shooting at a goat (this is what hoarders like this do, by the way. Shoot at goats with their L85 AWS's), scared them off, then killed one (if you're the one we killed and reading this, 400m up the treeline with SVD's was what you were looking for), then went in for these :) I was just scouting and we haven't... repossessed these goods but they will be ours very, very soon as with a camo this size we needed more members to move the whole operation elsewhere as it was quite out of the way. Question is though, who wants it? Check the sig for why I'm doing this I certainly don't. I've got better things to do than shoot at goats. (As an aside, you guys DO know there's a single player armory and boot camp for this type of shit, right? It's much easier to do that way) INB4 that they were hackers, I highly doubt a hacker would bother with this shit if they could spawn anything they want at any time. These are a different breed. Dupers/glitchers most likely, but hackers they were not. Too easy to kill. There's more shit in the tents too, couldn't be assed screening all of it though ;P
