I used to be a loot hoarder, and so I would rock the full TTsKO set, with helmet, mask, and all to look cool and maximize my inventory space. But recently I've gotten bored of looking like a Spec-Ops Dropout, and I've been rocking a hoodie, jeans, and a cowboy hat for a few lives. Since this change I have not noticed one iota of difference in how people treat me. Those who play friendly, are still friendly, and those who were going to shoot on sight anyway, still do. Really the only difference I've noticed is that now all I have to do is hit a few barns and I have my outfit back, instead of trying to hit the military bases that are all server-hopped and bare. Perhaps there are some people who will hesitate to kill someone who isn't wearing "bandit" gear, I don't know. Myself, I tend to react based on other factors. Looks do come into it, but our respective positions and the way you stand are more of a tell to me. Having a firearm drawn means that you are expecting, or looking for trouble, and I am far more likely to shoot you if I can't evade you. If your weapon is stowed, I will attempt to communicate with you, but if you do not respond, or attempt to drawn a gun, I'll shoot you. I will never fire on an unarmed person unless he leaves me no choice.

Most recently was yesterday, My two squadmates and I were holding up a pair of guys at Mogilevka, I was speaking over Direct Comms telling them to put down their weapons (One had an SKS but it was stowed and he had an axe out, the other guy had no gun). I gave them to a slow count of three to put it down and put his hands up. And instead they attempted to run, across an open field. I was stunned for a little bit, then I thought about letting them go, but I decided that a lesson had to be taught here, So we opened up on them, we managed to break the unarmed guy's legs, but my mosin shot killed the other guy in a single bullet. We held up the survivor, looted him of some stuff, and then left him to his fate. Not a huge story, but it's one of the better 'stupid people' I've come across.

Umm, what game are you playing? last time I looked Chernarus was a Northern Hemisphere country entering what appears to be Mid-Autumn (Think, September or October). Leaves have gone mostly into hibernation (The colour change to the beautiful orange and brown), the pumpkins are ripe for harvest (another sign of autumn), and being able to see your breath means the temperature is hovering around the 0 degree (32 for you American types) mark. There may not be any snow on the ground, but make no mistake, this isn't Hawaii. Run around without pants on you're going to get frostbite in very uncomfortable places. Especially considering that Chernarus is a coastal nation, making the humidity naturally higher, which increases the chance of hypothermia from exposure tenfold. But hey, your mom isn't around any more to warn you about catching your death of cold, so do as you please. Just don't come crying when temperature is implemented properly. And on that note, to the OP, I am in agreement with you, Mother Nature's harshest killer is the cold, and I hope the Devs translate that properly into the game

This sums up my thoughts. granted what it really means is that you'll just get killed by an axe more often than a gun (Let's face it, being a dick is just human nature, it's only the concept of consequence that prevents the actual world from being like this game.) I fully support the PKM being added as it's a beautiful gun that fits well with the setting. That said, as someone else said above me, there needs to be some serious drawbacks (I like the idea of hip-fire only unless prone, and no sprinting, make sense for authenticity, and game balance, because you have to ask yourself if the awesome gun is really worth an extra hour of travel time on top of what already a long as balls run from the NWAF to the Coast.).

From what I've heard, there are a few of these locations around. The one I know about is in the forest at Lesnoy Khrebet (Hill east of Novy Sobor). Look for the radio tower there, and the campsite is just to the south, near an old concrete wall.

Nicely edited, music's a bit grating, but that's just my own preference. Would be nice to see a bit more excitement in your vids, made it to about five minutes and still haven't seen more than a handful of clips where your target was any kind of threat to you. I will say your editing style and music selection makes your video come off like one of those "Look at how awesome I am at X game" videos that are a dime a dozen, it would probably work a bit better if, as I said above, you were taking a few more risks, rather than just shooting random people in the back.

So as we all know, currently there are no watches in game. Which 99% of the time, doesn't bother me. However it would be nice to have some way of knowing how long I had until sunset, or sunrise, without having to log out and check the server time (which I'm not 100% convinced is accurate.) This got me thinking, the idea of the portable timepiece has only been around since about 15th century. So how did mankind get by before this? Surely there must be a way of estimating what time it is without the need of complicated mechanical or electrical devices. I took the question to Google, and it provided me some interesting answers, most notably this Wikihow, But everything I see there requires knowledge of the date and timezone you're in. Which is fine for the real world, but I have no idea where Chernarus is supposed to be, and whether its sky box is accurate to that region. So I'm going to continue researching ways to tell time, as this seems like a useful skill to have even in the real world (Or at least a fun party trick to amuse people at the bus stop) but I figured I'd bring the question to you fine folks, perhaps one of the millions of fans of this game is smarter than myself and has already solved this problem of trying to get an estimate of the time based off the sun or stars.

I fail to see how it doesn't at least make the problem easier to handle from a player level. Right now combat logging is so prevalent there's almost no point in shooting at someone because you know they're most likely going to disappear before your eyes. With this, your character is going to sit down, which in most fire-fights, means you're dead right then, and no one is going to mourn you. But if by chance you escape death that way, I have a minimum of four minutes to either retreat, or displace to a better location before you can come back to the server. If I'm still vulnerable after that long, then it's my own fault I died. In the interest of discussion though, I'm curious to hear why you think that this system won't help to make this problem less prevalent. -

I have this same issue, I've actually stopped watching one of my favourite live-streamers because he switched to first-person and after ten minutes I'm running to the toilet to throw up. That said, I won't lie and say that Third Person doesn't have some massive problems with exploiting, and I hope some compromise can be reached in the future that allows me to play in increments of longer than five minutes, while still keeping the game balanced. Though now that I think about it, is something truly an advantage is -everyone- is given the exact same advantage? Hmm, something to think on. -

People say that man is the hardest game to hunt, and they may be correct, in some small ways. What those perpetuating this belief fail to consider, however, is that functionally, killing a man is no harder than killing any other animal. We can debate for days the ramifications of the act itself, the psychological trauma and other disorders associated with taking human life. But if we strip away all of that, and get right down to the pure mechanics of the kill, then we find that in today's modern age, killing a man is as easy as pulling a switch. We don't need to worry about psychological ramifications, because this is a simulated environment, and we are (hopefully) detached enough from the experience that we will not forget that. Anyone, man, woman, or prepubescent squealing twelve year old is capable of killing in this game, especially when their victim is unaware. You can justify it, reason out why killing is the best course of action, but the fact remains that every time you take a life, you are playing the game on easy. If you want a challenge, if you want to try out the hard part of this game, then take a page from Knar's book, and try helping people. I've kept tabs on the Trusted Medics since the first post way back in the Mod days. These people are the truly hardcore players, who stick their necks out for complete strangers, not because they are getting rewarded, but because they can. I've seen videos of the medics wading into fire-fights hopelessly out gunned to help people just because they asked nicely. In this game, the true measure of a man is not in how many he kills, anyone can pull a trigger, it's measured by how many times you don't make the easy choice. So ask yourself, how many times have you spared someone? Poetry aside though, seriously, playing KoS is like putting training wheels back on your game. To everyone saying Knar is playing the game wrong, go back to the first post and read it a bit more carefully. And to Knar, I apologize, I seem to have fanboy'd on your thread, but to you and all the Medics, keep up the good work. -
Gotta say I would have preferred a Logout Timer as a way to directly punish ghosting and combat logging, but I'm not against this idea. It will get annoying on days when my internet kicks the bucket and I have to jump around to try and find one that I can stay connected to, but oh well.

That was an extremely difficult read, but I think I translated most of it. The gist of what you are saying (I think) is that you and a friend were in Electrozavodsk. I believe I am familiar with the house in question, as I've taken cover in there before. From what I can get of your... story... You and your friend were killed clean though you believe you were not near any windows. I have had a similar thing happen to me, and after some research, I discovered the cause to be a bug that can happen when your Desync is high. Sometimes your character model will appear to other players to phase through walls for a moment before snapping back to your actual position. The issue is that any hits registered on this 'ghost' will be applied. Savvy shooters know this, and take advantage of taking shots at players when they see them phase through the wall, making it appear from the victim's perspective that they were shot through solid concrete. The other scenario is one I will look into the next time I'm near the South Coast. In the Mod, it was possible to climb onto the roof of the Electro Church. If this is still the case, that vantage might offer a clean shot into your refuge. This is a possibility that will require testing, but is equally as likely as the desync hypothesis above. -

As far as I am aware, no. Your character seems to be saved to the central hive, which a server admin can't touch. If an admin hasn't configured the server properly, and it isn't connected to the Hive properly, it can look like your character was deleted, as you'll spawn fresh on the coast, but you can regain your character by joining a server that is configured properly. That said, I don't own a server myself, and I can't say I'm any expert on what an admin can and cannot do, so everything I've said here might be complete bull crap. That said, if an admin is going to be a jerk, there are enough servers around that it's simple to take your business elsewhere, which is what I'd suggest.

You mean TTsKO. To the topic at hand however, the bane of my existence has and always will be the Complete Map of Chernarus, I've had it once, then I died by glitching through a wall. I can honestly say it's the only item I've ever been mad about losing, especially to a glitch. -

As someone who's been playing for a long time, I wouldn't call myself a veteran, as that just makes me sound like a self-important prick, but I will say, with a tiny bit of embarrassment, that at this point I can probably navigate Povrly better than I can navigate my own home town. I think the single most important skill a player needs to learn is situational awareness. I cannot begin to count the amount of times I have watched from the trees as an entire team wanders around in the open like they were on a picnic. I've walked up right behind guys too busy playing loot-tetris to notice the guy with an M4 breathing down their neck, and if I had a dime for the number of people who've walked right into my kill boxes, I could make a living playing this game. This isn't Call of Duty, and 99% of all engagements in this game are resolved before they begin. Because the man who spots his opponent before his opponent spots him, is afforded the time and power to decide how the engagement will go. -

The hardcore survivalists and game purists will hate me for posting this, but there is a handy site, called DayZdb.com that has a very detailed map, very useful for finding your way around Chernarus, especially when you are new to the game. P.S. FrankieG is correct, you are at Factory, Near Solnichniy on the East Coast of Chernarus.

Colour degradation, which is what I can only assume you mean by 'B+W screen,' is a symptom of high blood loss. the only way to cure this symptom is by repairing your blood value through a blood transfusion from a compatible donor, a saline injection, or the old fashioned way, time. Eat and drink food until you achieve the 'Healing' or 'Healthy' status, and your blood and health will repair naturally. For future reference please check out Merino's DayZ Guides which have saved mine and my squadmates lives countless times.

Actually Dean recently commented in a stream (Sacriel42's 100k stream to be precise) that in the current build, the compensator just reduces bullet dispersion. this is a temporary behaviour while they continue to balance weapons and attachments, but that is what it does right now. To the OP however, I am uncertain of exactly how much damaged attachments actually affect your shots with a Mosin, but I have never noticed a degrading bipod affect my shot. That said, I prefer the M4 anyway, so I'm certainly no expert on the Mosin.

I have seen bugs like this in the past. Try running both programs as an Administrator, it's a bit of a hassle, but I've found that fixes most problems with TS3

There is also a bug, though it may have been fixed, haven't tried it yet, where the Lamp stops giving off light. Not sure what causes it, but it's annoying. Other than that though the lamp is really nice to have, I tend to use it as a beacon when I'm meeting my squadmates at night, "Go into the light" is much easier than "Turn left at the black barn and wander through the woods until we stumble into each other."
