    DayZ dont shoot me bro

Coyote backpack and a silenced weapon? If got that close to me in the dark, I'd likely have shot too. However in this exact case, I'd have heard the friendly call, and may have warmed up to you depending on whether you were willing to lay down your gun first.

    Killing unarmed players

It's funny, most of the "I got betrayed" tales in this thread are because the betrayee let the betrayer get the upper hand, There are ways to maintain the upper hand without simply putting a bullet in them, problem is that most of those ways require more work (And I use the term 'more' very loosely). Allow me to share two stories that happened to me to illustrate this fact. The first happened in Cherno, I was on a US server (I don't have a home server, so I don't pay attention to anything beside ping) and I really wish I'd caught the name of these guys, but I was so convinced they were just going to blow me away at any minute I wasn't thinking straight. But they caught me going into the church, they covered the door, and through direct chat, called for my surrender, they made me put my weapons down, come out, and lay down, then they searched me. This ensured them that I couldn't shoot them in the back. Then they took me, hauled me into their vehicle, and drove me to a little camp outside of town, where they gave me a transfusion, gave me a full stock of ammo for both guns (They still hadn't given them back) and a full set of tools (even a toolbox, never had one of those before, so I was ecstatic). After that, they sent me and another guy, who, as they adamantly informed me, wasn't carrying any gear, to drive out to Kumyrna, where he told me to get out, and to take my guns (which they'd loaded into the back of the car) and to stay away from Cherno. They weren't the friendliest bunch, but damn they were helpful, cautious, and frigging organized, I wish I could remember who they were, I wonder if they need someone who isn't afraid to hit Cherno/Elektro for supplies? The second isn't quite so in depth, basically I learned from what that group did to me, and applied it to a newbie I saw in the woods by Rog. I saw him wandering around the woods with an axe, so I stepped out a good 10 meters to his side and yelled for him to get on the ground, he complied, so I told him to put the axe away. Which he did, all the while trying to reassure me he was friendly. I came up behind him, telling him not to move or he was dead, and checked his bag, it was clean, so I asked him if he needed any medicine. He said his blood was low, so I gave him a transfusion, tossed him a cooked meat, and told him which direction Rog was, and I watched his back the whole way until he was truly gone. which is when I left. Now I know this is the "bandit" forum, but it goes to show there are ways to keep the upper hand in an engagement that don't involve popping fresh spawns on the coast. Hell It'd actually be pretty cool if bandits actually started acting like ones, instead of just mindless psychopaths they do currently.
  3. I can, unfortunately relate, Last night I was moving around in Elektro gathering some basic necessities for my newest life, I was in the office across from the bar and supermarket, second floor, in one of the side rooms, checking a loot pile when I heard distinctive footsteps downstairs. I was already crouched, but I turned around slowly to cover the door, and when the other guy moved inside the room I was in, as I knew he would because he was looting the building same as I, I unloaded my AKM into his chest. I didn't try to once make contact, I didn't even offer him a warning shot, I waited in ambush, and when he stepped into my trap, I sprang it. It was only after I had finished killing the zeds I aggro'd from my shots (Jesse is a beautiful gun, but subtle she certainly is not.) That I realized I had done the exact same thing that had happened to me so many times. That if I'd just called out to him before he came inside, he might still be alive, but being stung so many times, it makes a guy quick to distrust, and think the worst in people.
  4. *whistles* Oxford, here boy! *whstles* Good boy, give the nice man a definition, would you? "Definition of bandit noun (plural bandits or banditti /banˈdiːti/) a robber or outlaw belonging to a gang and typically operating in an isolated or lawless area:the bandit produced a weapon and demanded money military slang an enemy aircraft." As you can see, Oxford here (More specifically, oxforddictionaries.com) has provided us with a proper definition of what a bandit actually is. in layman's terms, and more related to DayZ, he is someone who kills you for the express purpose of taking your possessions. That is the long and short of it, If you are killed by a bandit, then he was better at being a bandit than you were at surviving, if you managed to kill one, then the opposite is true. If both happened, you clearly met two different bandits, who were thus two unique people with two unique skillsets and trying to paint them both with the same brush as you have done makes you look, frankly, laughably naive.

End Game / Nothing to do

Or simply try being a medic. I've been having a tonne of fun with it, and it's sparked a further idea I am going to try implementing in the future, it was inspired by what Doctor Wasteland does, but I'm aiming for my own unique spin on making endgame fun, if my local test works well, I'll be posting proper details about it in the future.

    Friendly Players?

As a guy who just got shot in the back of the head after someone who called "Friendly" decided that healing me with my own blood bag was too much effort, I can really see where you're coming from OP, the lone wolf thing works well if you can get the right gear (Lasted over 30 days, got killed because I got stupid, and now I've died five times just trying to find a box of matches). However, watching youtube vids of people in groups makes me realize that, while I've proven I am competent enough to survive, I'm missing out on a lot of the fun by being a loner, Sirdeath posted that link to the Regulators site, I might just check that out...

    Its Raining strikes again

At first I was like, okay, it's kind of creepy, but he just walks around, not that scary. Then when you gave up running and he just stood there, I was all, "Well, this is - OH GOD ZOMBIES EVERYWHERE!" Seriously, I hate hackers, most of the time, but whoever did this deserves some -serious- props for creativity. Script Kiddies, listen up, -this- is how you hack Arma 2, with crazed crap like this, any moron can teleport people into the ocean, but only the creative mind of a god thinks of crap like that. On a related note... if something like that thing were implemented into the proper game, I'd probably cream my pants in happiness.

    How to lose a chopper

Ouch man, ouch. If you haven't, do the singleplayer tutorial, and put a couple of hours into the armoury flying choppers (Especially if you can unlock the UH-1H) because they can be very touchy beasts to fly. I miss my Chinook, and hope one day they'll add it in the game. She may not be pretty, but I can make her dance.
  9. Yeah Yeah, I know, people usually come here looking to trade high end military gear or medical supplies. But my needs are simpler, and as I just lost my 28 day survivor due to a moment of stupidity on my part, (Heard a guy eating so I figured I'd go say hi, apparently coming around the corner in the middle of the night in a ghillie suit with a gun drawn is a threatening act, who knew? :P.) I'm in the market for some basic survival necessities, the most important of those being a box of matches. I have come across an extra map that I am willing to trade for them, but of course, price is negotiable. PM me or post below and we can work out a deal. Alternatively, I am also in the market to replace Jesse, my trusty AKM, and a toolbox, but I don't really know what would be a fair trade for those, so if you'd like to, make me an offer. Ways to contact me: -PM me on the forums -Post in this thread -Steam: Valanthe500 -Email: [email protected]
  10. Thank you for all your extremely "helpful" replies, however I am well aware where they spawn, my luck doesn't seem to be extending that far, hence the point of my post. I was bored and looking to see if anyone had any extras they'd be willing to trade. You know, a quick easy way to meet new people, try something new (I've never organised a trade in this game before), and maybe add a little spice into this new life.
  11. Well I was moving up north last night to check the vehicle spawns at Blunt Rocks. on the way I was going to pass by Klen, so I thought, "eh, I'll check for the ATV there too." Well I didn't find the ATV there, but I did find a tent full of all sorts of military goodies, so I looted it all and left a slab of Raw Meat as a trade. Feeling pretty boss, I figured I'd hit the hunting stand to the East, I needed the target practice anyway. Well about halfway down the mountain, I catch a glimpse of something off to my side, hitting the dirt and bringing up my binocs I find out that it's a fully working ATV. I don't know who's it was, but I drove it around for about five minutes till it ran out of gas, and as I couldn't find any jerry cans, I figured, "if I can't have it.." and tossed a grenade underneath it. Not as hilarious as yours OP, but that's my thievery and mischief story, and also my first vehicle find.
  12. Unfortunately he almost certainly is, which is a shame because the idea of a legitimate zero infrastructure tactical survival course (fixed that for him) is pretty cool, and a skill I wish more people had. I myself would sign up for it in a heartbeat because I could use the practice.
  13. I like this idea actually, I don't know what the skin would be though, maybe a soldier with a 'medic' flash? as if I recall, patching up other survivors was the easiest way to raise humanity.
  14. You sir, can have my beans. I'm sure the people this thread is actually intended for while completely ignore this thread and continue to cry about the fact that someone shot them with a sniper rifle. Oh well, I guess you can't win them all. I for one enjoy the challenge of having to properly recon an area before I move in. That I actually have to pay attention to the route I take, and where I can be seen from, just like in real life. And for those crying that the guns are too common? if we went real, the only guns which would be any sort of common would be shotguns and hunting rifles. Meaning yes, there would be -even more- people with "sniper" rifles in the game.

    Add Radios to dayz?

There is a radio tool in Arma2, would be cool if you could find it in DayZ, and once you did, that would give you access to the Global channel. Would work like your idea, except anyone with a radio would see/hear what was being said. just like in real life, to intercept a shortwave radio, you just have to match its frequency.

Something that nobody understands about DayZ

At the moment, day 27. Had a few close calls, and some -extremely- close ones. but I'm still having fun. I will admit though, I'm actually kind of hoping I do die soon, I miss the challenge of trying to get that basic gear I needed to survive the first few days. After I got a decent weapon and some hunting supplies, the game has become a lot easier.

Something that nobody understands about DayZ

Personally I like the players who rush in fast, at my gear level, I am quite literally only going into a city if I need to restock medical supplies. with two canteens, water is a non-issue as long as I plan my travel routes carefully, (And I keep a spare can of coke for emergencies) and I can pop a cow/boar/goat whenever my food runs low. What this means is that all I need from "civilization" is ammo from deer stands and farms, and morphine/bandages/painkillers from towns and cities. With such a limited dependance, I can watch a location for a long time, waiting for the perfect time to strike. And that's when my love of fast players comes in. They run, make a lot of noise, move in predictable patterns, and flush out snipers and zeds for me, all the while leaving the low value loot I'm after in its place. How it usually happens is I'll take a vantage point, I'll see someone book it through town, gathering up the zeds, if they attract bandit attention I can keep an eye on them too, once they are about to leave, I make my move, keeping low and moving quickly in behind them to grab what I need. This strategy has kept me alive for quite a while

    Whiskey as a Disinfectant

I did the same thing, and then, upon learning my mistake, promptly decided to dispose of the empty bottle by smashing it against a wall that was right next to me... I felt stupid after my ears stopped ringing...
  19. So it was by no means a connected incident, I guess I'm just lucky. I was looting the hangars up in the Krasnostav Airstrip, when I started taking fire. As I am only armed with my Bison right now, and I could not get a bead on the shooter more than a general direction, I realized my only option was to get the hell out of dodge, and hope that whoever was shooting wouldn't decide to chase me. I was wrong, he hit me once, luckily not a kill shot, but I managed to dive into a little copse of trees, and once there, apply a bandage. The shooting stopped, but I knew he could see my hiding place, and it was to become a game of cat and mouse, with me desperately trying to find the next place to run to. unfortunately for both myself and my hunter, that's when a hacker decided to teleport everyone on the map to the top of a building and start gunning us down. This was the first time this has happened to me, but I've read the stories here. Now some may look down on the use of Alt+F4, and I myself would never use it in an honest fight. but when someone decides they're done playing honestly, and seek to ruin the fun of others, well, I feel all bets are off in this situation. Anyway, I managed to get out and log back in on a different server, where I found out that I was on top of the southern fire hall in Elektro with a broken leg. So I patched myself up, and put my Bison to good use dragging myself out of the city. As I sit by my little campfire, cooking some meat I chopped from a cow on my way out of town, I realize something. That hacker probably saved me from dieing to the man who was hunting me. As he had all the advantages, and I had no chance of fighting back against him from my position, he very likely would have shot me down had we not been interrupted. And you know... that kind of makes me sad, I was making that guy work for his kill count, and if he could have taken me down honestly, he deserved to do so, but his chance was taken from him. I just hope that he got out of that trap and that his gear is intact, so that he doesn't have to start again. Hmm, not much discussion value here, I just wanted to share my tale, so have any of you experienced anything similar, where something not intended to be a part of the game ended up saving your skin?
  20. Kerwyn

    Is this a fair kill?

Definitely fair, you had the upper hand, but you offered him peace. He chose to refuse that peace, the fact that he didn't know your location only proves it, because if you are caught so short-handed that you can't even locate your enemy, then resisting in such a futile way is surely the sign of a fool. In fact, I'm kind of glad to see this story, it's nice to see some people with honour in the world.
  21. Well, common knowledge or not, I was unaware of it until now, so thank you for the post, this is definitely faster than a full restart to the game even if it isn't 100% reliable.
  22. Kerwyn

    Is this a sin?

Ouch, I feel for him, you've just consigned your mate to a long, slow death from hunger and thirst. Well, unless you can find a new boat and fix it up.
  23. Kerwyn

"So you want hear a little story..."

Sucks about the hackers, that's always a crap way to die. I had to kill a man in Balota, so I can sympathise with your feelings for Harry, I hailed this guy three times, calling friendly, and telling him to put down his weapon, then he turned and pointed his winchester at me. Bad move when I'm already on edge about meeting a survivor and have an AKM trained on your head. When I checked his body is when I found out he was a newbie and didn't even have ammo for the gun he was holding. I can rationalize it by saying I didn't know his gun was empty, and he -did- aim it at me. But I still shot him.
  24. Kerwyn

    Most unlucky moment ever -.-

My unluckiest moment was in Elektro, I was looting the grocery store when a survivor came in carrying a train of zeds, we both yelled a quick friendly, and he said he was low on ammo and gonna die. I called back "Not on my watch!" swung out Jesse (My AKM) and gunned down the remaining zeds. He's hurt bad, so I rush over, bandage him up, give him painkillers, morphine, and a transfusion. He thanks me, asks if I need anything, I say "no, I can just restock what I gave him here in the city before I leave and in fact, here's some mags for that pistol of yours." He is elated that he met a true friendly, and I can hear the ear-to-ear smile in his voice. but his elation is short lived, he opens the back door to the store, and moves to the middle of the lot before he is hit in the chest by a sniper atop the fire hall near the power plant. He calls out to me, still alive but with a broken leg, I call for him to crawl back to me, trying to draw the snipers attention by shooting at him from the windows, but my accuracy is crap at that range, and with another harsh crack, my new friend is put down. I made it out of the city, barely. but that poor survivor, I didn't even ask him his name...
  25. I can definitely agree with the more/altered respawn on vehicles thing but it's a very thin line between having too few, and having too many, I've been wandering the map for nearly 20 days alive now, I have seen exactly one bicycle, as it shot by me in the hands of another player. but if everyone could easily find a vehicle, then it would remove a lot of the challenge from the game. However what Shilu suggested I cannot agree with for the same reason that putting too many vehicles would be bad. Part of the thrill of finding a helicopter crash or a sweet spawn in the NWA is in knowing you have achieved a rare apex in the game, where you no longer need to actively seek out dangerous areas in hopes of finding that gear. I would not oppose a greater selection of weapons in the future, especially melee weapons, but weapons now are perfectly spaced that it is challenging, but not difficult to find and maintain any type of weapon if you have the know-how to do it.
