wanting to start a medic service need people that want to help!
Kerwyn replied to IIA7XII's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As BurritoBandit said, you should check out this thread: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3910-need-medical-assistance-we-can-help/, Doctor Wasteland is a champ and his White List / Trusted Medics are amazing. That said, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from making your own, and my hat's off to you regardless, we need more nobility in the wasteland. -
This sounds like a cool idea, personally I've gotten pretty good (in my own opinion, based entirely on my 4:1 success rate) at getting in and out of Elektro when I'm gearing up on a new life to need your services, but my hat's off to you sir, for you live a nobly, and here's a can of beans as thanks, you may save my life one day, and should be properly rewarded.

Would you like some face with those bullets??
Kerwyn replied to NightFire661's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
What the heck is with your camera mate, that wobbling is nauseating. -
I try not to use this line, not because I don't want to sound mainstream, but because I think it sounds stupid, but in this case, I believe it is entirely appropriate. If you cannot play solo and be successful, then I'm sorry sir, but you are doing it wrong. I've begun looking for contact now, because with a 31 day life under my belt, the challenge of 'surviving' has been met and beat, and now I want to see what other fun things I can do.

When I get the drop on someone like that, or otherwise have the upper hand, I am usually friendly scratch that, calling me friendly implies that I'm actually nice, I order their surrender, and if they comply, then I can be pretty amicable, however if they so much as breath funny their arse gets blasted into next Thursday.
-
Chances are only the first guy was an actual hacker, I've seen some pretty wild shenanigans on Dobryy with two or more shooters spotting a city with no knowledge the other is there until one of them takes a shot. It's hilarious to be stalking a shooter, only to see another one close by, and as you're plotting this change to your battle plan, see one take a shot, the other spin around wildly, spot the other guy, take him out, and leave his arse nice and ready to receive a lead enema from my good pal Jesse the AKM. Edit: wait, is the CCO SD a legit gun? I can never keep the military guns straight with all their wacky mods...

Being "Friendly" isn't always best
Kerwyn replied to Warsaw (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, this is why I tell people to lay down and blast them if they so much as look at me, people like you, sir, have turned honest, helpful people into heartless murderers because they are tired of their good will being spat back in their face. As for why they were telling you to lay down, that was why, they were dumb enough to let you get in position to look in their packs, and they let their guard down, so yes, it was partially their fault they died, but calling friendly then shooting them in the back? really, you're bragging about that like it's some kind of accomplishment? -
This has been an interesting read, it's neat to see how something as simple as an undeniable "friendly" skin divides the bandits and shows the real fun of the game, those little moral dilemmas that, when you look back upon them, really illustrate the character of the person behind the keyboard. Some, upon seeing someone whom they can clearly identify as being a nill threat, suddenly waver from being 100% kill-on-sight, illustrating that underneath the hard exterior, there is still a human being under there (Or you're just a coldly logical robot who understands that you don't need to waste a bullet on that person, just ask them for whatever supplies you need). Others, are, well just assholes. Don't get me wrong, we all play how we want, but if you're shooting someone to take their stuff when you know full well they'd just give it to you if you needed it, your playstyle is that of an asshole. Anyway, very cool thread, and to make my post tangentially related to the topic at hand. I wouldn't shoot a medic, because I play lone wolf, I know that one day I might need a medic to save me, but more over, if I manage to see you first, I'll either be well hidden enough that you'll pass me by, or you'll be too far away for me to make out your skin well enough, in which case, you're no threat to me, and not worth the bullets I might need to get out of actual trouble.

In DayZ the L85 can only be found (very rarely) with a Thermal Scope. Its designation is the L85A2 AWS. Any other variation is absolutely hacked in. In order to prevent being mistakenly banned, make sure you have less than 10 slots in your backpack, then add the gun to your pack to destroy it. Feel free to keep the ammo if you wish to (Put the ammo on the ground before you move the gun to avoid destroying it.)

How would you punish the script kiddies?
Kerwyn replied to Sir Diealot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The problem with all of these solutions is that they all give them exactly what they want, attention. Personally I prefer the much simpler (and less likely to bring child abuse charges down on me), IP ban and ignore them. -
Classes and Zombie changes (especially in the standalone)
Kerwyn replied to Pandacar's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've never liked the idea of overly restrictive classes myself, but I can see where you're coming from with the idea. However I don't really see it changing much as far as player interactions go, and to be honest, I like having the fear of not knowing whether this random survivor is a simple man trying to survive the end of the world, or a bloodthirsty psychopath out for my beans. I do think implementing a pseudo talent tree might work, where instead of being locked as a cook, you can, say, take a few points in several different areas, so that us lone wolves can still play that way, just without some of the advantages a more specialized character may have. The other question to ask, is your class permanent, or can you change it upon death? All in all, good idea, but would need a lot of tweaking to fit with DayZ -
Zombies should be removed from DayZ
Kerwyn replied to Professional N00b's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hehehe, beans given, awesome story 10/10 would read again -
There already is currency in the game, bullets, food, medical supplies. These are the currencies of the apocalypse, because printed money doesn't keep you warm, fed and alive in the end of the world. In modern society, we have placed a value upon things that have no practical use. When our comfortable lives get stripped from us, and we must survive with our own two hands, suddenly a slip of paper with some ink on it is worth nothing, a gold coin, unless you have a specific use for the gold, is just a chunk of metal too soft to be any good elsewhere. However a box of rations will feed a family for a month, longer if they don't like their kids too much. A gun allows you to hunt for your own food, and to defend yourself from those who would prey upon the weak, but not before you get ammunition for it. There is no need for such frivolous things like money in DayZ, because the world already has it's own currency, just take a look at the "Want to Trade" posts on this very forum if you don't believe me.

Round and round the mulberry bush, the monkey chased this thread again... If you want fast paced spectacular gunfights, you have Battlefield over there, and Call of Duty is over that way. DayZ is about survival of the fittest, and the different methods to approach that singular order. Some of us take quick firing, light weapons that make CQC and MOUT engagements a breeze, others prefer to sit back, relying on their skills they've practised using particular weapons to rain death from a distance. And then there are those like me, who find a weapon that strikes a lovely balance, and we name her Jesse. The fact of the matter is that you are essentially complaining about a playstyle for the simple reason that it is different than yours. Adapt or die, that is Darwin's law, complaining simply because someone is better at shooting than you are at evasive maneuvers is like complaining that someone shouldn't be allowed to use a bank shot in basketball simply because you can't do it. If you keep dying to snipers, I can very gladly give you some pointers on how to survive them, to date only two people have killed me with a sniper rifle. One was entirely my own fault, crawling through an open field outside of Elektro, and the other was because I was stupid enough to trust another person. Though to be fair, there was a third who came very close, but was robbed of his chance to see if he could finish the deal by the Thunderdome hack. And on that note, you say, "You know that there is alway a sniper scouting Cherno / Elektro / nwairfields, on any servers." So why do you keep going there? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. As I was saying, either learn to avoid them, or learn to fight them, adapt or die. It's not ruining anyone's experience, it's teaching Darwin's Laws the hard way. And on that note, what about those of us who've survived long enough for zombies to be a nill threat to us, without military grade weapons to throw in a challenge to our survival, what are we supposed to do, sit around a campfire and sing Kum-Bay-Ah to our makarovs? No thanks, I prefer the proper risk of knowing that if I stop paying attention to that treeline, I could be signing my death warrant, I love the thrill and adrenaline rush when you spot that sniper, and successfully execute a perfect flanking maneuver to come up behind him, taking the time to switch to a hatchet just to add insult to injury. And on the flip side, knowing that you've got a buddy armed with something closer to artillery than a rifle watching your back, is like having your own personal guardian angel, removing threats from your path you weren't even aware of yet.

Beans give for helpful, constructive post, unlike some of the replies to your thread, sadly I'll always be a third person player, because I do get motion sick, and not from the head bob (which I've already turned off.) Well, not just from the head bob. Fact is, and perhaps it's just the way my eyes are, I need something still and constant on the screen that I can focus on, otherwise I get motion sick, and unfortunately, when you run in Arma 2, your weapon drops out of sight, leaving the entire screen almost entirely empty of anything not moving, which then gives me motion sickness. That's the reason I travel and maneuver in 3rd person, so I don't have to go throw up every 20 minutes, however I will say, for actual combat, it's 1st person, ADS, all the way, trying to aim "Over the shoulder" or "From the hip" just feels unnatural to me.

The Difference Between the Bandit Forum and Survivor Forum
Kerwyn replied to AllYoYens's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Cute thread, however in less than five minutes I can turn it around on you: Bandit: Survivor: Point of my post? cherry picking specific examples that are not indicative of the actual nature of the majority of players who frequent a specific subforum is a rather pointless exercise in futility. -
To the guy who just sniped me outside of Stary...
Kerwyn replied to valtiel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Heh, your thread title was misleading, but in a good way, totally clicked this expecting to see someone whining about being bad at surviving. Beans given for epic sportsmanship. -
Hmm, almost a bean-worthy story, except for the part about ghosting in from another server, If they didn't have enough guards posted to stop you sneaking in, that's their problem, but ghosting is just cheating by another name, and if you have to cheat to win, then you shouldn't be playing.

Rocket and team are Lazy/Incompetent/Do not know what they are doing.
Kerwyn replied to TheDee (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You sir, have very clearly not played in many alpha testing phases, this game plays very smoothly considering it's dev state and the fact that it's a mod for an already buggy to all hell game (Seriously, go play the proper game, if you think you have it bad. But more to the point of the OP Short answer: Long Answer: DayZ the standalone is being built on the Arma 3 engine, meaning that it will be it's own game, with optimization fine tuned for it's own specific needs and problems, rather than trying to piggyback off of a pre-existing game that -was never designed to support the kind of gameplay we exeperience every day in DayZ- You ask what has changed, I ask what hasn't? -
Technically you'll have three games. If I recall correctly, Operation Arrowhead is a standalone expansion, meaning you didn't require Arma 2 to run it, making it technically a separate game. Still for less than the price of Skyrim

Why geared up players are hard to kill
Kerwyn replied to zmol's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
According to my own doctrine, the only time I open fire, is to remove a direct and present threat to myself or my current objective. So according to simply that, and from a logical standpoint, it really shouldn't bother me that people alt-F4, as the threat is removed, regardless of whether I got an arbitrary notch on my belt or not, so mission accomplished. However, this isn't the case, as unfortunately I was raised to fight fairly, and to abuse something like the ability to combat log to save your precious gear, well, that's not even fighting dirty, it is pure and simple cheating. -
I can sympathise mate, I have had two types of interaction, ones where I am nice and friendly, and get shot in the back for my trouble, and ones where I tell the other person that if they think about turning around to face me I'm giving them a lead enema. I try to be helpful, but I'm tired of my natural politeness getting me shot, so now, sure, I'll help, but don't expect me to be nice about it. The most recent time I got betrayed, I met a guy near Dobryy hill, we talked ofr a bit, and arranged a plan to raid Elektro, I would run in, he'd provide overwatch, it was a beautiful plan, and I've rarely seen any operation go so smoothly, then it came time to split the loot, and he put a DMR shell through my teeth. One of the very few times I've actually been pissed off about a death (I mean apart from the fleeting "Crap I died" we all feel). So now, my only companion is the only one in this world who has never let me down, and that's Jesse, my trusty AKM. To everyone else, I'll help if you ask, but don't expect me to be nice about it, and don't think for a moment I won't put you down if I think you're gonna do the same to me.

To the prime douchenozzle on US 279
Kerwyn replied to GeneralTao's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So, he disconnected after killing you? As in, the fight was well over, and he was safe? Yeah, that's not an alt-F4, that's what we call a legitimate log out. Save your rage and indignation for people who actually deserve it -
This is something I would like to see, perhaps even add something like having "Horde zombies" have a small chance to drop top tier/rare loot, so it adds a sort of dilemma, where you want to try and take them on, rather than just laying low and letting them walk by.

Good idea, the only problem I could see is that it could impede visuals, which if I died because I didn't see some guy past my own breath I'd be kind of annoyed. I'd say bring back the temperature on the debug menu. or at least make the thermometer icon actually useful, (Perhaps have it as a proper thermometer, where the "mercury" rises and drops as your temperature changes?)
