  1. Your ideas are cool, but I -really- like the standings idea. Having a simple interface (Possibly off the "players" list in your map pane), that allows you to give any player on your server a rank between -10 and +10. This rank will be only visible to the player who issues the rank, to prevent trolling, but will be tied to the account, so that if the players meet on another server, the ranking will still be there. This ranking would translate into a simple UI change in game, when you aim at a player, an indicator will appear with a colour that indicates the standing this person has. This system would allow for more friendly encounters without compromising the simulation feel as when someone leaves an impression upon you, you shouldn't have trouble recognizing them (Hey, that's the asshole who shot at me, or hey, that guy gave me some beans!).

    spray paint/mark on walls

I love the OP's idea, but I have to go with this guy, limiting the amount that someone can do on a server would be wise, have it so you save the drawing like you would a tent or vehicle, otherwise it despawns at reset. I can think of all sorts of potential for this, from clans marking their turf, to people directing newbies to loot spawns (Or into firing range >:D) though I'v a feeling that it will mostly be dicks....

Death and the destruction of gear

I like this suggestion, adds a nice risk/reward balance to the the mental calculation as you are deciding whether or not to blast that random person running to kingdom come. Worst case scenario, nothing changes and it simply acts as a simple way to drain some of the loot surplus from a server. Best case is you see bandits teaming up, opting instead to actually act like bandits and rob people in order to preserve their supplies, which leads to a more social environment, which leads to more fun. For everyone actually, as it's far more fun to be held at gun point as bandits rummage your patrol pack than to be picked off from 600m by a sniper you had no chance against.
  4. I would love to see more geographically appropriate weapons in the game, right now I rock an AKM because, say what you will, that is a sexy gun, and what's the point of surviving the apocalypse if you can't do it in style? Actually I use it because it's got comparable damage to the Enfield, has full retard mode for when I invariably screw something up, has zeroing, though I never use it, intuitive, unobtrusive iron sights, and its ammo, while unique, is plentiful. if I could put a supressor and and ACOG sight on it, I would never need another weapon in my life. But more to the point, model swapping the enfield for the Mosin Nagent would be a good move, you can keep some of the M4/M16's, but literally every one of those has an AK equivalent that does exist. And that Vintorez, make it like the MP5A5 or the Bizon PP-19 SD, good size magazine, silent as hell, but rare ammo and weak as crap. it would become a perfect PvE marksman rifle, we don't have a scoped rifle ideal for clearing zeds right now, and that would be a great addition.

    Night time pointless? Gamma fix.

The problem I have with Night is that currently it is way too dark. the only time I should absolutely -need- a source of illumination just to be able to see my own hand in front of my face is when there is literally no light whatsoever. The human eye can adjust to very low light conditions, yes we do not see as well, being diurnal predators, but we can still reasonably make out terrain features and movement at night with little to no illumination. In fact, I've found that playing between 2100-2200 with my gamma around 1.2 and brightness all the way up, is in fact very similar to what the human eye can see on a clear night, with or without moon, or a clouded night with a moon. all the colour is very much washed out of the world, shadows are intense blindspots, but you can pick out sudden movements from a long ways away. Even with those settings, on a moonlit night on DayZ, after about 2230, I can't play, it is literally so dark that I cannot even see the weapon in my hands, and then it becomes pointless to play. So with that in mind I don't feel the least bit guilty about having my gamma up, I am still at a disadvantage to someone with proper nightvision, as is proper, I can't make out fine details, as is proper, but I'm not so blind I can't even tell I'm standing right next to a building, which is not proper. the only time I've been that blind in real life is when I go spelunking, and there is literally no light for your eyes to adjust to.

    The "Zombie" Virus and You.

I like the idea behind this, I'm not a fan of Quick Time Event combat, as I find I find it cheapens the experience of the moment (As a reviewer once said: "You didn't just defeat the many-appendaged tentacle demon, you just hit the button prompts like a good little monkey and your digital avatar did the hard part") and I don't think it would mesh well with the hardcore 'simulation' that DayZ is right now. That said, one thing I could add to your suggestion, perhaps the player should be allowed to control their fully infected self in a limited fashion (Maybe they can turn left and right slowly, but the model will shamble along in random directions and if a player is 'spotted' (does anything that would attract any other zombie, then the player loses control as the last of their humanity gives way to the pure instinctual beast. Zombie players should also keep what they had in life on them, with the exception of dropping whatever weapon they had equipped when they died. However, my reasoning for this has an ulterior motive, in that "Player-Zombies" will add an unpredictable element to the game, higher risk, as there is still a slightly human mind behind the controls, but higher reward, as they'll have much better loot than regular zombies. They could also still count as 'players' for the purpose of spawning zombies and loot, thus throwing out of whack the "zombie check" exploit of sitting outside a city and watching for zed spawns to track player movements.

Remove the 5 minute login unconciousness

This sounds like a bug more than anything, you should report it as such. The only time you should get a five minute unconsciousness on login is if you log out with the "Shock" debuff active (Looks like a broken bone, but more blunt, is actually supposed to be two nerve endings). If that is what is causing the issue, give yourself an epi-pen to remove it instantly, or wait 2-5 minutes for the debuff to wear off before logging out. If you do not have this debuff, then it's a bug, and should be brought to the devs attention.

    50 Jerrycans?

Jerry Cans are not rare nor are they at all game changing, at least, not in the way an AS50 or an L85A2 AWS is. In fact, it is not unlikely that a player with the determination and the knowledge of where to look could find 50 Jerry Cans in about a day with a little luck if he already has the vehicle. I say keep as many as you like. You only need to worry about your conscience when you come across obviously hacked in items, like AS50 AWS's. Sriously, killed some arse who had one the other day, and as I have zero interest in sniper rifles (I am a crap shot, people just tend not to notice thanks to full retard mode :P), I figured, "Ah what the hell, let's see what the fuss is about!" So I spent about five minutes popping zeds with it outside of Elektro, scared the piss out of some poor new spawn on the roof of the hospital, then got bored, and used my Alice pack's built in trash compactor to delete it. Seriously though, the scope on that gun takes all the skill out of marksmanship, I actually got bored doing something I normally find quite challenging.
  9. It's unfortunate but Derpy is right, nothing you can do about Combat Loggers, unless you catch the proof on video there's no way for a server admin to legitimately uphold banning them. Take my viewpoint on the ordeal, in a survival situation, to the victor go the spoils, you won that fight, even if your kill count doesn't show it, the only thing you lost out on is whatever that guy had in his bags, and you got his bus. The threat was averted, you came out ahead of where you were before, you technically still won.
  10. Cool story, beans given, my only 'epic stand off story" involves that little black house on the hill west of Cherno, right on the coast, I had found a revolver with no mags, and was about to leave when I heard footsteps outside, thinking to myself, "All I got is an empty pistol... Maybe I can scare him off." so I yell over Direct, "Hey you out there, I'm inside, and I'm armed, I don't want to fight you, so either lay down your weapon, and we can talk friendly, or bugger off. If you come in here armed I'll fill your face with lead!" He didn't respond for a long time, and finally I got bored, and careless, thinking he must've run off, I moved over to the window and peeked out, last thing I saw was muzzle flash, sounded like an M16, or maybe an M4, the American rifles all sound the same to me...

    Lonely Hacker Kid

I'm with you on the boring hacker problem... I ever see the psycho killer, or the helpful ones, or even slightly creative ones.. it's always the mass teleport or the invisible killer. you hackers out there, if you're listening, nobody likes a follower, be creative, work those feeble tumours you call brains and give me some enjoyment damnit! THE PONY DEMANDS IT!
  12. This game really ramps up your emotions, when I get into a tough firefight in CoD or Battlefield, my heart doesn't race nearly as fast as it does at the sound of a single gunshot on DayZ. And I believe that fact may have something to do with the hackusations. I've noted on many videos, even the professional ones like Sacriel's that in the heat of the moment, it's easy to think you were killed by a hacker, when in reality, your aim was just off, or the hit detection hated you, or you simply didn't hear the guy sneaking up behind you. That said, there are times when the hacking is -very- obvious. like the thunderdome, server nukes, etc. but not every death is from a hacker, sometimes newbs get lucky, but it's hard to look at a situation logically when you're pumped full of adrenaline from a tough fight. To point, I can only think of two situations in my time here that I can reasonably use the accusation of hacker, the first was a mass server teleport to Elektro, pretty obvious, but the second was a bit trickier. I had just killed a man I had busted trying to sneak up on me, but he'd managed to break my legs before he went down, while I bandaging and waiting for my friend with the bloodbag, I hear someone on direct say "What do you call a man in your situation? KA BOOM!" and I was shot dead. I swore, but wrote it off as just someone stumbling across me laying near a deer stand. but not thirty seconds later, my buddy reports getting killed, "Alright," I think, "Terrible luck, but we can start again. Ten minutes later in Cherno, the -exact- same voice, using the exact same tagline, and the exact same gun shoots me dead, this is in addition to a rapidfire list of deaths, and I can't believe that it was all coincidence. All that said, in my second example, it could be understandable if I'd yelled "Hacker!" at the first death, simply because I thought I'd scanned my surroundings thoroughly, and my emotions were still high from having had a very close brush with death.

    Preferred sidearm?

Real Men use the flashlight! If only you could attack with it... I use the 1911/revolver most of the time, simply because ammo is everywhere.

    Bandit and Hero Camo

The only issue I see with this idea is... if they went with Bandit 1, holy crap I'd betray my friends for that hat. Seriously, I like this idea though, beans given!

    HELICOPTER CO-PILOT - Standalone suggestion

I one hundred percent support this idea, very good idea, beans to you sir!

    Bow and Arrow

I like this idea, in real life a bow/crossbow would be the most commonly available weapon to survivors simply because, pre-apocalypse, even countries with stringent gun laws such as Canada still allow the sale of bows to anyone, sometimes you don't even have to be 18. If you aren't picky about things like accuracy, power, or recovering the arrows, you can fashion projectiles for the weapons very easily, and even then, properly made ones can be easily reused, making it an ideal weapon if you are looking to arm someone who is untrained, as you can give them training at very little cost, unlike bullets which are essentially one time use unless you can acquire the means to reload them. That said the crossbow in DayZ has one glaring problem, inventory space. The implementation of a quiver system (heck, if you could have several arrows on a slot, while still needing to reload each shot, that would fix the issue right there. The lack of a sight I can work around, though having even a basic one would be nice (It has mounting rails...) Though from what I've see, the Arma 3 engine has support for modding weapons, which will fix the problem right there. Anyway, to get back on topic, I totally support the idea of bows in the game. They are ridiculously hard to aim, but that would be the point. Hard to use, but totally worth learning to.

    TRAIN

An intriguing idea, but poorly thought out. DayZ is a survival game, this is not Call of Duty, nor is it Battlefield. When the world ends, the rail system will no longer function, because in the real world, it takes dozens of men with years of training and experience to keep even a small stretch of track like the one in Chernarus operational, and that's not even getting into keeping the trains themselves running. I would love to see Rocket implement a repairable rail system, and perhaps that could be an idea for improving the endgame for survivors/nonbandits, huge scale projects that would take the combined efforts of many people to ever see completed, with players having to gather supplies to repair and maintain stretches of neglected track and locomotives. But in order to fit with the theme and purpose of this game, it would have to be entirely player run. On that note, implementing this alongside the power grid mod, where you can actually restore/cut power to Chernarus would go a long way towards feeling like our lives are making a difference, and could potentially see the reform of many bandits. Though there will always be some who just want to see the world burn.

A way to deal with bandits, maybe?

While I can appreciate your intention, I think you are looking at it from the wrong angle. Banditry already has an inherent Risk/Reward balance, in that a bandit has to actively seek out contact with other players, with each encounter bringing with it a much greater risk of death than plain survival. I think the proper way to improve upon this is to bring that balance to the survivor's table, add a reason for us to want to help people, or at least something to promote friendliness. exactly what this would be I haven't the foggiest idea, but I think once we start looking at the issue with the right mindset, we can work out a resolution. In short, there is no "Bandit problem," there is, however, a "Survivor problem."
  19. This sounds like -exactly- the kind of group I can get along with. I do have one relevant question though. What is your clan's attendance requirements? If 2-3 nights a week works, then I'll certainly look into recruitment, but I unfortunately don't get a whole tonne of time to play.

    How to stop Ghosting.

I'd say ramp up the cooldown to 30 minutes or an hour, that way the person who stayed on the server has time to check for others people in the vicinity (Which, depending on your location can take a really long time) maybe loot the tents/building/town that the ghoster may have abandoned, and make a run for it before the person trying to cheat ever has a chance to return. Either way, great idea, beans given.

Have some beans in return, my good sir, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
  23. Vehicles will respawn at the location they were last saved at upon each server restart, in order to save a vehicle, use your scroll menu and select the "Save" option. This also works for tents. Apparently, though I have not personally confirmed this, a vehicle will also despawn after seven days of not being used, but again, I cannot confirm this. As for crossing servers, vehicles and all placed items (Tents, barbed wire, etc.) are saved to each server, not your account, so they do not transfer when switching servers.

To the Owners of US 2037

The words uttered by anyone who's shot an Enfield in town ring true for this thread: "Well, that escalated quickly." While the server kill can't be put on anyone, as that's not an admin permission (thank the bean god). The fact that the admins have gone and confirmed that it was one of them who was killed (Thanks for that, it was hard to pick a side till you guys opened your mouths), speaks for itself. There may not be a lot of concrete evidence, but what we have is a man, shooting one guy, who's been confirmed by the admins to be either one of them, or a friend, while the other Alt-F4's (Funny they forgot to mention that when they were whining about ghosting). then immediately a succession of kicks by said admins are issued, and not just one or two hackers, a large selection of players are booted, ( I've not bothered to count how many.) After, Butcher ghosts the server for some payback. Normally I'd say shame on him, but considering how pissed I'd be if some Alt-F4'er kicked me, I can call it forgiveable (Besides, he makes hilarious videos, and just might top Sacriel for being my favourite DayZ youtuber). He kills one guy, who can easily be assumed to be in league with the admins as he did not loot the tents, but instead drove in a patrol. and considerable amount of time passes before the server wide kill happens, lending doubt to it being an admin, as if it were them, it would have likely happened when the ATV guy was shot. In conclusion: First encounter: One dead, one Alt-F4, immediate kicks from admins, who've confirmed that it was indeed them who were attacked. evidence may be coincidental, but it is pretty convincing. Ghosting: Strike against Butcher, but forgiveable due to circumstances Second Encounter: Most likely admin, no repercussions Server Kill: Length time from last encounter lends doubt to it being an admins revenge, instead, probably chance hacker, unconfirmed. All in all, my beans are in with Butcher.
  25. You scared the crap out of me, my own fault, yeah, I wasn't paying attention as I approached that farm West of Zelenogorsk, and when I peeked around the corner, and saw your Ural parked there, I panicked, then I saw one of you inside the barn, you clearly didn't see me, but in my panic I bolted back for the tree line, when I got there, I thought to myself, "They don't know I'm here, and they have a Ural, and their fixing the pickup..." and I swapped my MP5A5 out for the FN-FAL AN/PVS-4, as I approached the barn, I was muttering to myself about how annoying having a night vision scope at 10:00 is, I got back in time to see one of you take the Ural, and the other take the pickup and drive off. I thought that was it, so I set about looting the barn, then I looked out a window, and saw that you had barely travelled 200 metres, and were sitting right on the edge of the tree line looking down at the farm, I couldn't see your friend, and my heart started racing, I cranked my brightness and gamma down to zero, sighted you with my binoculars, waited for my night vision to adjust enough, and took the shot. Bang, I hit the wall of the stables I was in, too close to the window. Bang, shot too low Bang, shot too high Bang, nailed you, Theratched has died. Of course what I didn't count on was 40 something zeds pouring through every door of the stables and killing me through attrition, I just couldn't kill enough of them fast enough to make an opening. So win for killing someone with the night vision scope in the middle of the day, but a fail for actually dying to zeds. Yours truly, Valanthe P.S. Also, my hat is off to you for not Alt-F4ing, you had plenty of opportunities to, as I know for sure you could hear me firing at you, and I am a crap shot even when I'm using a real scope.
