I played yesterday when I had just updated and I started exactly where I left off in 1.7.2.4/95417 with the gear I had.. So no probs here at least.. Though it was just a random server - not one where I've played before.. What do you mean "keep getting teleported back to coast"? Does the hive have probs with different servers, running the new update? I mean, switching servers resetting your character? lol, I don't really understand much about that stuff. But at least to me everything seemed fine going back to the game.

The same thing's happening to me.. I replaced the files in addon folder with 1.7.2.5 files and updated the beta to 95883 and tried booting with sixlauncher... well that verified and "updated" the game and in the menu it said I'm on 1.7.2.4 and 95883. (since sixlauncher/sixupdater is still running 1.7.2.4) So I launched it through steam (set launch options for operation arrowhead and launched combined ops) and now that I get to the dayz main menu, it says I'm 1.7.2.5, 95248 :P So... what am I supposed to do now :I Edit: Found the fix.... From another thread ( http://dayzmod.com/f...on/#entry497006 ) "If you still want to want to run the game through Steam, then you'll need to overwrite the main client in Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead root folder with the one in the Expansion\beta folder, just like the first time when you setup your launcher to run DayZ through Steam. Here's the default folder locations if you've forgotten: Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead root folder Where the old version client that should be overwritten is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead Expansion\beta folder The latest version client is found here C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta Note that DayZ Commander makes it convenient for you by doing all of the file overwriting for you when you tick "Replace original Arma2OA files with Beta so Steam works" in the settings" You can boot DayZ with steam by going to steam, right clicking operation arrowhead, then going to "propertities" and "launch options" .. on the launch options line, insert "-mod=@dayz -nosplash" and press ok. Then just right click operation arrowhead and select "combined operations" and it should launch DayZ :) Though you probably need to do the thing I mentioned above to get the right version to boot up.

So i went around trying to communicate with people

Well I know that I'm not trying to be a bandit or hunt others down, BUT I'm still pretty protective of my gear, at least when I have something I don't want to lose. If I see someone and they don't see me, I often hide or circle around them without any contact. Or listen to my inner peeping tom and just watch them through my scopes until I get bored or lose sight of them. But if someone does clearly spot me, I often get ready to fire.. and if I REALLY don't want to die; I'd probably open fire without questions asked. Though I must say; I haven't killed a single player yet. No murders on my belt. Though yes, I've been shot dead a few times. :P I've been trying to avoid all confrontation and never go on servers with alot of people.. Though I don't use empty servers either, as that's superboring, but finding a server with like 10 people is ok.. not too crowded, but still not too lonely. I just like human encounters to be rather rare.. personal preference. But yeah, it'd be a nice to stumble upon some actual friendlies bit more often, but most people are just like me... if they have any good gear, they're not willing to let it go and it makes them rather triggerhappy. -
Ah, so are some places permanently bugged out on all servers right now? I'm pretty new to this and last night (night server) going by the balota airstrip and the military camp with the four deerstands and I couldn't get anywhere near the place because every time I looked at that direction, something (the tents maybe?) going absolutely nuts, creating walls all over the sky and place :P Couldn't go there at all eventually and had to circle around it...

Night time doesn't serve a purpose

ACTUALLY just when I had been talking about this here, last night I did get alot of moonlight during the night. Every tree cast a shadow with nvg's on and when you took them off and let your eyes adjust, the moon did light the ground that wasn't shaded by trees. It looked spectacular :o So apparently it's all about the weather and time of night, I guess... as later on that night it got pitch black with a cloudy sky. Damn, I should've taken some screens, come to think about it... Captain Hindsight at work again. -
Me too.. I was doing so damn well, I got NVG's, a nightvision+thermal sniper rifle.. loads of food, painkillers, bandages, heatpacks, drinks.... And all of a sudden, I'm infected. I had just used a damn heatpack anyway and been inside buildings, but now that the celsius amount isn't even visible in the status box thing, I find it insanely hard to determine what the icon is all about. It never gets green like the others do.. it never blinked.. it's always just some sort of brown/grey/bland colour. Really pissed me off that I had been taking so good care of my character and all of a sudden I start losing 3 blood every second and coughing absolutely non-stop. Not stopping for a second. And as antibiotics are insanely hard to find, I just put my most important stuff in a tent and hoping anyone won't find em while I look for the antibiotics.. and probably end up dying.. :P Edit: DAMN russian wanker stole my stuff while out there looking for the antibiotics.. I died, but at least I was happy that I got my NVG's and other goodies in a tent so I could go get them... Traveled a looooong trip just to get to my tent aaand it was empty, with another tent planted right next to it, as if to say "U MAD?" Sigh... nothing in this game can go well, ever, can it? Brutal.

Night time doesn't serve a purpose

Yeah well a snowy ground + clear sky with the moon out is a different scenario than no snow and the moon out. But yeah, I get what you're saying :) Yeah, here's a quick tutorial on how to know where north is. Very useful with the help of an internet map to not get lost in the dark :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqelc7x70vQ -
Night time doesn't serve a purpose

Well I live in Finland aswell and sometimes when there's a poweroutage and all the streetlights etc. go dark and it's a cloudy night, you can't see ANYTHING. Not a thing. Not even if you stared at the darkness half an hour, the only thing you're going to see is the silhouette of the horizon - just like you do in DayZ. (Though if the sky's covered by a thick layer of dark clouds; you won't even see that and it's literally pitch black, when the town/city lights are out and not reflecting the sky - as even that's a factor near well lit cities.) But I do agree that on a clear sky when you see the stars and the moon, DayZ servers are too dark. On a clear night the starsky and moon give out quite alot of light and you can see the shapes and different shades of colour (able to make out a tree on a grassy hill etc... I mean not clear as day, obviously, but you can atleast see when you're going to walk into a wall, unlike on DayZ..) In DayZ, the only way of knowing there's trees of buildings in front of you is wonder near enough that you can see the object against the sky... So yeah, it's literally stumbling in the dark. But as the night servers are less crowded, it's not THAT much of a high risk to use your flashlight. Unless there just so happens to be a guy with NVG's prowling in the night. Because then, you'll be like a damn lighthouse beacon and can be seen from hundreds of miles away... A good example video of what that looks like: But I still kinda like the fact that you can't just wait a night out in 30 minutes. That would totally take the "danger" away from the nights, as you could just camp in a bush until it's daytime again. I like going on the servers with just a few people at night.. Gives me the oppourtunity to move to a different area kinda peacefully and still gives me the rush of "What if someone's watching me from the dark" that it's all about :) Awesome atmosphere.. and using your flashlight IS a risk, but the key thing is to use it sparingly. Check out a village with your flashlight and be gone in like 5 minutes and move to another location without a flashlight.. Unless you get really unlucky and there's a guy really near you; you should be in and out before any NVG people on the faraway hills get to you... hopefully. Gotta love the game, as the intensity is all about things like these.. Though it's a little too hard to stay warm during nighttime. I tried to stay inside a closed hangar to keep my body warm and it was pretty much the same as I was outside :P -
Ohhh boy do I have a story. How a mysterious pro awesomeguy saved me, the noob. (and equipped me with HIGH END GEAR :o) A LONG STORY.. I guess I went a bit too much on the details.. just trying to describe the atmosphere as this was one of the awesome-est experiences I've had on any multiplayer. So I'm on my third attempt/character. The first one was just me running away from zombies, when I realized I don't have a gun and figuring out the controls.. Ran for 15 minutes and died :D Second: Finding only ammo and cans of food for first hour.. Stumbling up on a multiple story hospital building, with no idea where I am and finding a handgun... and EMPTY handgun with no bullets. I start investigating the rooms aand someone puts a bullet in my head without me ever seeing anyone. But now the third one was really the charm. It ends up me with me having all high end gear without firing a single shot, thanks to a.. well, what I can only describe as a TRUE professional lone wolf player. So I begin my playthrough and it's the middle of the night. I can only see the horizon and the starsky, but it's waaay too dark to do really anything. So with nothing to lose, I head forward with my flashlight on. (once I figured out how I turn it on ;P) I wander along, sneaking around zombies and following the coastline for a while - often turning my light off to not attract unwanted attention and just looking at the waterline, that I can barely see and rely on my ears to tell me about any nearby zombies. (Turned music off.) I come by a cement platform and some fences.. It appeared to be some sort of a docking bay with one long pier and when I go past the fence, I see there's a big double doored warehouse/hangar, both doors on the sea-side. Well, I go inside and I only find some wire on a reel and items to make tank busters. Someone (I assume) had also left some sandbags in the back of the hall for cover... It didn't look that guarded though, so I set up a few tankbusters next to the other door, making the warehouse only enterable from the door I see from behind the sandbags and make this my small n00b "base" for the time being. I head outside and circle behind the warehouse silently and decide to go for the other nearby buildings. (A smallish village with lots of buildings that aren't enterable) I often have to use my flashlight as I can't see anything stumbling in the dark... there I spend at least 30-45 minutes goind around finding pretty much nothing. I did see a pistol and a few bags floating in the air, next to a building, as if they were supposed to be on the second floor. I can't take them, no matter how much I point upwards and try. "Curses. Just my luck. How dare you tease me on a moment like this!"-I ponder bitterly and lose 50% of my hope for my success :D I do find a can of beans, green chemlights, a smoke grenade and a heatbag around the town, next to outhouses and whatnot.. And with the zombies starting to pile up wondering the streets of the particular village I had been circling for almost an hour, I decide to head back in the hangar and wait for daylight..... Without realizing the servers probably work in realtime... (or do they?), and that the sunrise would still be hours away, I crawled inside my humble fort and ate some beans, hoping that being indoors would do something to warm me (Or at least slow teh freezing nature of my character) and I wouldn't have to use the heatpack yet. After being there for some minutes, I get bored and go outside and head right along the warehouse and notice there's a little shack on the corner... Just as I get close to it, a zombie walks around the corner and I back away without agroing him... Then I notice there's also a hopper inside the little shack. Hoping there might be some water or a gun, I try to distract the zombies by pointing my light at them and making them angry... Well, that works and I run along the docks for a while, then go to a crawl walk and shut my light off.. Luckily the zombie wasn't fast or determined enough to find me in the dark, so I slowly crawled past him and into the shack.. Just when I'm there and realize the whole shack is filled with nothing but shiny and rusted empty tin cans, the hopper finds me. I slam the door shut in his face, but he only teleports inside and mauls me to the state of me bleeding like a faucet. So I start running mindlessly along the shore/docks while the blood spurting away everywhere and luckily lose the zombies around the corner. I did have the bandage I started out with, so I patched myself up leaving me 7000-ish blood, really thirsty and with low bodyheat. I use the heatpack pretty soon and start to lose hope... "Well this surely isn't going good... And with that flashlight on I'll just attract too much attention..." and that's when Bonnie Tyler's "I need a hero" started playing in my head. I decide to open the door and throw a green chemlight on the dock platform in front of the warehouse entrance and close the door. I also throw another inside the warehouse near the door, just to improve my mood. Pretty green lights should make death a bit more comfortable and crawl behind the sandbags... The idea was to attract other players and maybe get some help or to join someone, HOPING they won't shoot me as I'm unarmed anyway. Acts of a desperate man. I get some real food to eat (me, the player, IRL) and eat while staring at the door infront of me. Kinda boring, really.. I hear nothing and only see the chemlight lit closed door. I point my flashlight to the back window up on the wall (facing the village) and start making an S.O.S signal toggling my flashlight. The side chat had been filled with nothing but russian for the whole playthrough, as it was a russian server (good ping), so I figured writing would be pretty pointless (I'm finnish) and I just kept at it.. My desperate distresscall.... three quick flashes... three long flashes.... three quick flashes...... repeat.... Nothing really happening. I notice one of the russian speaking people asking if there's any english speaking people on the server... "Tyler" they call him. And epic hero of the myths... well no, a total stranger to me, at least so far... So I reply.. and it goes like this: (here's where the "I can't believe this is happening" stuff begins) Me: "I am.... : P" Me: "and I'm pretty much screwed." Tyler: "ok... and I know." Me: "what do you mean "you know"?" Tyler: "I can see you" Me: "I doubt that : P" Tyler: "ok then ;P" (I doubted him, because I was inside the warehouse.. had been for quite a while without moving or making any noise or even the flashlight "signal"... sure the chemlight was still in front of the building, but he couldn't see ME... unless he had been following me for quiiite a while.) Me: "Well, if you see a warehouse with a green chemlight in front of it, then it's me" Tyler: "Yeah, I know. I've been watching you." Here's where I got curious. He still might have been bluffing, but it got me on my toes. So I cautiously head outside and look both ways very extensively... No one. Nowhere. I look out to the water for a moment and see a zombie floating in the water, alive just staring at me. "Hmh... curious.. what's that all about" And that's when I turn around and see a guy crouched in a ghillie suit, wearing NV glasses and shooting 2 zombies near the small shed dead in a flash. Tyler: "Go in" Without even having time to realize what's happening, I do as he says, sprinting in like no tomorrow. He shoots a few more closeby zombies that got agro'd by his handgun shots and comes inside. Tyler: "Are you hurt? Are you armed?" Me: "not that hurt, but cold, thirsty... and no I don't have anything really.. a smoke grenade, painpills, a few chemlights... and that's it." This is where I thought he'd put a bullet in my head, as it looked like he was just aiming at my head anyway. But instead, he drops a waterbottle and I pick it up and drink it. He doesn't even ask the bottle back. He asks if I'm cold or hungry and I say that I'm freezing, not that hungry yet. Tyler: "Wait here for a minute, don't go anywhere" ...and there he went, vanished back into the night, leaving me to think what had just happened. "Did my S.O.S work? Did he follow me for how long? ... lol! He must've seen me stumbling in the dark.. oh god... my n00bdom feels violated :\" After a while, the door opens and: Tyler: "Blood?" Me: "Over 7000, so I'm ok..." Tyler: "4" He drops a bloodpack and I understand he wants me to give him a bloodtransfusion. So I oblige and he thanks me. Did he mean he had 4 blood? ... or 4000 blood? Can you even HAVE 4 blood and be walking? Oh well...He drops me a heatpack and a pair of nightvision goggles and says "Follow"... Nothing else... ok, I guess I'll f-.... WAIT WHAT?! He just gave me nightvision goggles? What the? I thank him like a million times, put them on and get amazed by the total clarity that they provide. I could see everything in pitch black. I didn't even know there are such awesome things in the game before that.. Tyler: "Too dangerous here, we must go." Given my current situation being alone and lack of talent for being alive, I really didn't mind as I was pretty much getting myself killed anyway. And NVG's MAN! Sweeeet! So off we go.. He crouch runs in front of me and I follow .. we travel a few hundred feet along the shore and come by his small two-man boat..... and off we go. I felt so overwhelmed at that point. "Ok, so I'm in a boat... with a stranger, wearing NVG's, speeding through the waters. No idea where we're going. Well.. at least this game doesn't have any sort of rape mechanics, even though this is kinda creeping me out; I guess the worst that could happen is that I die. And that was going to happen eventually anyway." I felt like a kid being bribed by a pedophile to come with him. I mean... what was the catch? Why all this? Or did he just do this out of pure heroism and kindness? Time would tell.... We travel to an island, parking in the shore, next to a big rock. Tyler: "This place also kinda dangerous..." Tyler: "But my home" *shoots a zombie* Tyler: "Come" and I follow him obediently up the hill. He's taking out every single zombie like a boss, as if he was mad at them for being on his lawn. He leads me up, tells me to wait while he clears any nearby zombies, vanishing and popping out again like batman... I mean, for some reason that guy was just so hard to detect in that ghillie suit that I had trouble following him without losing track... and when it's finally peaceful, he pops out from the bushes nearby and DROPS ME A GHILLIE suit and says "I'll give you a gun, if you promise not to shoot me" Enthusiastic like a kid who just got his favourite superhero costume, I put the suit on and state "ofcourse I won't shoot you, I'm already neck deep in debt here!" So he leads me to 4 tents, filled with amazing stuff and says "Take what you need" ... Really? Being a bit shy with taking whatever I'd want, I grab a silenced pistol, gps, map, watch and then ask again "Can I really take this stuff? What gun do you recommend?" Tyler: "Put away your binoculars and take the range finder... and you can take gps, map.. L85A2 AWS and bullets" So I do, and he tells me to have a look at my new gun, as long as I won't shoot... And it has an awesome scope, night vision and THERMAL OPTICS :| Flabbergasted. That's what I was. He also killed a goat, made me take the meat off it (that sounds wrong), then made a fire and "taught me to cook" etc and I got some of my blood back with those delicious stakes. So for the next hour I basically became his pet, following him around, while he quite literally showed me all the works, until the server was about to restart. It was like he was some sort of a tutorial, giving me all the info for survival.. and the tools. In the end he just wished me good luck, said "take care of your new stuff" and left. Who was this hero? For HOW LONG has he been surviving alone on that island? He showed me a few tent hiding places and I counted at least 7 tents, hidden between trees etc. all with pretty awesome gear. And he obviously had plenty of spares, even to give away :P Silenced sniper-rifles, alot of the basic gear (matches, watches, gps, maps) etc... but not like ridiculous amounts though, so I don't think he had hacked them in any way.. (It's not like there was insane amounts of everything, but obvious doubles, which he gave me. A tent I didn't take.. I guess I could've ... :P He did have one in the tent, but I didn't dare take it because it was the only one.) He also told me to use the forests, recon before I move and hunt and cook to stay alive. You know what the biggest problem is? Now I feel CURSED by all that awesome stuff :o I clearly lack the awesome skillz to really hold my own in tricky situations and I'm terrified of logging in. What if I get killed the first hour? That'd suck so bad :D I'd be so depressed... Though not as much as if I had actually put in the hours to get it all on my own, but still - how do I go about filling my blood .. probably hunting, eating alot.. but what if some bandits see me :S Now I just need to swim to the mainland when I start running out of my SD pistol ammo when hunting and ... gotta try and find good places to fill up my inventory without getting shot by ... well, anyone more talented than me. Which is; Anyone who has played more than around 6 hours. ;PP But I swear, that was one of the coolest experiences I've had while gaming... That guy was like the mysterious hero that just appears out of nowhere. He didn't talk much, just when he needed to... he had been watching me in the dark like the damn Batman and he did this to get the blood transfusion. He only needed me for a while and rewarded me big. Damn awesome... I also like the fact that he had been spying on me without me having a single clue I was being watched the whole time. Kinda gives me the creeps but somehow it's still awesome. :D So at least not everyone out there is preying on the n00bs ;D

Stuck on final loading screen, two separate PCs
sarcasm83 replied to sixdeadpandas's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I didn't even Alt+F4 out of the game - I just got insane lag and then the server stopped responding so my character couldn't move etc.. so I kept trying to move, waiting for the server to respond and then it kicked me out of the server. Now when I try to join any server, I get the same issue you all do.. So maybe the "hive" or whatever couldn't save my characters location/position when I moved while being disconnected or something ... So are you telling me I can't play DayZ anymore? :P That sucks big time. It was only my third try and I didn't yet get to even shoot a gun once :P There must be a way to just create a new character, right? If I create a new profile or edit my current one?.. hmm, I guess I'll try that now as I still haven't...
