    "RP" servers

You know, it's almost safe to say it's american idiots who ruined the game. The game's point was NEVER to be about people shooting people constantly. ArmA2 covered that pretty much already. The only reason you're so keen on JUST playerkilling, is because you wanna be an ass. I don't KNOW why some people love being dicks (especially the most ignorant americans), but that seems to be the only pathetic way some people can get their fun out of things these days. Don't deny it - it's clear your comment had only that purpose aswell; To piss off someone. To laugh at someone elses expense, as you for some reason can't find entertainment in being friendly. I, personally, think there's something wrong with people like you. But anyway; there are hundreds - maybe thousands of games dedicated for nothing but Player Vs. Player. And you have got DayZ wrong. Yes, rivalries can happen. Yes, banditry is a part of it. But deathmatch IT IS NOT. (Edit: No I'm not saying all americans are like that - I have american friends I play with and they are smart great people - so don't all of you get pissed.... AND I bet you all know exactly the group of asshats I mean.) (Edit2: And no, the roleplaying server isn't about us even talking in character, being lame and awkward about it. It's simply playing the game with a sense of immersion - and actually giving a f**k what the game setting is and having some respect towards other players)

    "RP" servers

Yeah, as long as you don't join one of those servers, you're free to do whatever you like. :) Oh and funny, the RP server I just played on, that just got a huge safezone trading hub with vehicle fueling and fixing today is 3rd most famous DayZ server right now... But yeah, not popular at all. Might I also say that I played for 60+ hours on public servers without seeing a friendly. Just PvP call of duty kiddies, never making any contact with anyone else. Just getting shot. Now I've played for around 10 hours on the RP server and I've had moments so insanely epic it's ridiculous. Got robbed of my gun and bag by 2 bandits when I was alone... Not a single shot was taken by any of us, as they totally got the drop on me. Just went to the trading camp with a friend, driving a bus and there was at least 10-15 people, 4 cars parked and a heli refueling when we arrived. Trading works, robbery and banditry works... and I tell you, it's way more fun than the BS trolling of the ridiculous amount of a-holes on public hives. Safe to say I won't be playing on public hive servers again.

    More Functional Surrender

Realism.. haha. Good one. I mean, if suddenly faced by near extinction and faced with zombies as the enemy, I bet people wouldn't just suddenly turn into psychotic massmurderers, going around shooting the healthy without a single question, racking up kills like they're playing Call of Duty, like 90% of people do in this game. I mean sure, it'd be NICE to get some realism, trust/respect and SENSE in the game but it's never ever going to happen, because majority of people are assholes who enjoy pissing people off when they're given the right amount of anonymity. DayZ - Because killing people in ARMA2 didn't piss them off enough.
  4. That'd be good for newbies at least, yeah. But for a server like that to actually stay somewhat interesting for a longer time, we'd need waay more zombies or at least some solid objectives/missions to co-op, as it is true that the zombies alone don't provide enough threat. So there's no real need to band together and fight the real enemy as of now. But yeah, just played on RP2, a "roleplaying server" and during my 70 hours on public servers I never saw a friendly (unless he was from the forums and we met up) and now, during the 3 hours I played on their server, I saw 4 separate people on foot, came to close contact with 3 of em and talked, saw a jeep and an Ural drive right next to me and they didn't even try driving over me :I As a thank you I left 2 Jerry Cans I had found on the side of the road, incase they came back. Later on when I checked, at least the Jerries were gone. One guy did get the drop on me and told me to stop - I complied. Asked me if I'm alone etc... then didn't wanna rob anything from me as I really had nothing really valuable (just basic stuff) so he told me to run along. Safe to say he still pwned me and I didn't have to revert back an hour of progress to the coast. Now that's what I mean. It was awesome to play with people who play fair and aren't out to piss everyone off. And also awesome that it wasn't a suicide to head towards the sound of vehicles or sound of other humans. Felt way more like a real zombie apocalypse, when the whole world doesn't feel like it's filled with psychomurderers, but actual survivors.
  5. Hmmmm.. I wonder if I should take it as a true challenge to MAKE A FRIEND on a SERVER. Now that would be a real challenge. Been thinking of some ways that could be potentially safe. Like going to one of those buildings that's kinda like a metal barn, with the stairs and the walkway up next to the windows and nothing else. Then barricading the other door so there's only one entrance. Planting a tent outside so I can see it from the window. Then, when someone would come close, I could shout out that there's a friendly inside. And if he wants to join me, he must leave his weapons in the tent and come inside. If he doesn't and comes inside, it'd be easy to gun him down coming in from the only door. That plan only backfires if they happen to have a satchel charge and decide to blow the whole building up :|

To those who look down on bandits/pvp...

I mean, I get a chopper... I try to go around looking for people to pick them up, share the fun.... I get shot down with AS50. I'm dead, the helicopter I took ages to fix is gone. No fun for me, no fun for others, no chopper on server. Because of THAT ONE GUY. I could give more examples, but I think you know the type of player I mean. And it turns out, there's only not ONE of THOSE guys, they're spread around the servers pretty evenly. And I think it's not beneficial for any player, the community or the mod itself, as THOSE guys have already scared off a bunch of noobs, since the game seemed like total bullshit because of THEM. :P Sure alot of you might think "well if I go on a hill and snipe 10 people, who cares, pvp is fun" ... but when a thousand players pull off the same stunt, the amount of other players killed is 10 000.. and I bet there are more than thousand players on a sniperhill right now shooting guys for target practice, and at least half of their kills might be a bit pissed or at least frustrated about it. And probably going to vent that frustration by shooting someone a bit less challenging... aaand the shit just goes around... But well, maybe that is what it makes it DayZ then... Maybe that's why it is so rewarding yet terrifying to finally fly a chopper. All I know is; Every person who has seen me on a server has killed me. Every person I've seen on a server that didn't see me, I could've killed, but I didn't. And I'm actually somewhat proud of not pointlessly ending their run. And kinda bummed out I haven't seen any such kindness myself, yet. :) All I know is; DayZ is still damn addictive and I just keep going back either way. Let's hope for a little less griefertrolls. Hilarious trolls though - they're always welcome. Oh and I'll still add: I actually found a huge truck once.. Ural, is it? From the gear (there was ALOT), I took what I wanted and you know what? I left the truck right there, unharmed, because it wasn't mine and someone had probably worked hard to get it fixed, parked there and filled with gear. I didn't blow it up before I left. I didn't f**k it up. I didn't rob it, as I didn't really feel like pointlessly driving around, moving all their stuff they had stored in it and ruining their fun upon their next log in, as I had no reason to. That's called respect. (Sure, a totally strange concept considering the internet, but somewhere among GAMERS, it still exists.) I just don't enjoy being a dick. And I don't like dicks.

To those who look down on bandits/pvp...

"who really wants to log in, spend 30+ minutes running to a guy, helping him, then logging out?" Isn't that basically the same thing as running 30+ minutes (or more, since you don't know where he is) to another player and shooting him? The whole "this is your story" line means people can play how they want to. I find it kinda cool being a hermit up north, surviving, going for a surviving record in days, living off of tents, hunting, staying warm AND unnoticed (It's not like I camp around there on an empty server) and ofcourse spying on people I see, getting thrills from just seeing a guy who has a high powered rifle and hoping he doesn't find me. I mean I'm not a coward or non-familiar with shooting people in the face with a rifle repeatedly. I'm actually a fan of it. But I've done that in soooooooooo many games that why would I just do that in DayZ again. Especially when I know my target practice could be someone's huge frustration when he had just been trying to get somewhere, not looking for a fight. Because of the permadeath, even hiding, trying to survive as long as I possibly can is indeed pretty damn intense from time to time. Might I say it's probably eventually harder to go for a long life than just grabbing a gun and fighting until you die. In the long run. Also because of permadeath, I respect other players lives MUCH more than in any other multiplayer "kill em all" destructionfest. That is exactly the reason I'm not into shooting on sight, as I really don't enjoy being a killjoy :/ It's just my nature, I'm sorry if that annoys you. Sure, some find that totally boring. And ofcourse I'm not saying pvp should be removed. Hell no. There'd be no reason to move through the woods like a ghost, never being seen by anyone, watching others.. There'd be no thrill in anything then. I guess I just wish there'd be alot more mature players who have same sort of sense of respect or might I even say "honor" :D It sucks the hills are often full of snipers who only wanna shoot you dead to cause you grief, not because they want loot. It sucks some play the game with no immersion at all and run around rather carelessly, trying to kill, not minding if they die in the process. It sucks some people are out to get you with their main goal being pissing you off. It sucks it's so popular for people to say they're friendly when they're not, as that'd be one of the only things that would make it possible for people to try other playstyles. But there's no respect, at all. The people who see only PvP do not even allow anyone else to play differently - infact, they're deliberately trying to prevent it. And I think that's kind of a dick move. Just saying it'd be nice to have a bit more balance to the survivors vs. bandits thing, as majority always shoots on sight.. and alot of the times not because they HAVE to for their own survival, but to snicker in the bush when they pop you from 800m and end your week long character just because you got bored up north. Sure, I could just start shooting everyone on sight too.. but to be honest, I think the game will grow stale faster for me if I do that. Then there's nothing but pvp, rinse and repeat...

    Search Dumpsters!

It'd also be nice and non-retarded if you couldn't die of thirst when it's raining.
  9. Not killing ME should be a rule in this game. ;> I hate to admit it, but right now I'm way too attached to my gear :'< :D

Am never going to get the Hero skin :(.

Hahahaa, lol. :D Aaaah, I get it now! Did read about humanity from dayzwiki even before I asked, but the only thing that gains humanity should be healing or medicating others, BUT it also says that: "If a player's humanity drops below 2500, it will be replenished at a rate of approximately 30 points per minute until the player's humanity is restored to at least 2500. " So if and when the bug of changing clothes "resets" your humanity to 0, it slowly starts rising back towards 2500. But the next time you disconnect and connect back in, the humanity you had before will be back + it will also count the added humanity you got when the game thought you only had 0 and started raising it towards the basic 2500. So that finally explains why I've gained humanity even if I've never performed any healing to other players yet. Thanks for the answers! Beans for all!

    "No pvp" server

Worked fine for me. Also be sure to read the rules to get the password for the thread that has the actual server password :D lol I guess I'm going to try it out, even though I'll be pretty prepared to have my face shot off the first minute I see someone ;) Well if you read all the rules word for word, sure, it's alot of words. But what every single rule on that list is basically saying is; Play fair, don't be an ass/troll and don't kill without reason. Not really that complicated to follow, unless deliberately ignored. :) Now off to watch your youtube vidz; Satchel Charge Shenanigans sound entertaining :D

    "No pvp" server

You're just the type of player I absolutely hate. Right now wondering should I even bother giving you an answer, as I kinda feel giving an answer is a bit too generous to someone who's only fun is the total opposite of kindness. So the only thing you can come up with doing in the game is grabbing what you can and killing the least threatening, least challenging people who don't even fire back at you, since you join a "no pvp" server to hunt them. What a hero you are. Keep in mind, that I do not leave behind a trail of corpses or steal what others have looted. Most equipment considered best equip has less than a 0.2% chance of spawning, and you talk about ONE trip to NW airfield? Curious. Clearly we have a different opinion about fun, so I think this arguement won't really get us anywhere. But yes, I do play the game with some immersion. Yes, I did take the "Survive" objective seriously and didn't run and gun down noobies until I die on every respawn and repeated it until I got bored and had to resort to cheap trolling to get some kicks... My characters have all lasted for multiple IRL days. Sure, that probably means nothing to you, but at least I'm not the one having to join a "no pvp" server to pvp. Kinda funny, actually. I've never shot a player, yet I've never been on a "no pvp" server. Oh well. At least I'm glad I haven't pissed off a single DayZ player, as I actually hope to draw MORE players to the game, not piss them off from playing one by one.

    worst first impressions on dayz

Oh and you know what's funny? Even though death is so infuriatingly frustrating if you've had amazing gear, it's also the most relaxing and relieving thing you can imagine. When you finally die, you're free to run carefree through the coasts, not caring whether someone totally rapes you or not :D

    worst first impressions on dayz

I can relate sooo much. The only time I've not been able to avoid a player, was when a hacker spawned right next to me and killed me waaay up north, where I had already checked every angle. (He did this when I spawned on the coast too, several times, so I'm sure he did teleport.) Oh and haha, I did have a very VERY unlucky encounter on a server with me and ONLY 3 other players. I was looking at Balota airfield from a faraway hill just after for some reason spawning at the coast with full gear, instead of north where I disconnected... and saw zombies, where I hadn't been. So they were spawned by someone else. Heard a gunshot and almost had a heartattack, but then I realized he shot at the zombies.(checked debug in my moment of panic for dead zombies.. sorry if you consider that cheating ;I) Trying to stay totally hidden, I just move closer to the tree I'm next to and go damn near under it. I keep scanning, trying to figure out what way did he head to, so I'll know to head the totally opposite way. The zombies despawn and I start panicing... where is he!?!? I contemplate logging out as my heart was pumping so hard, not knowing where he went. But I thought I must go through with it, as I'm not the kinda guy who alt-f4's out of battle. Even though I wasn't yet in a battle. That's when I hear one single footstep, someone goes prone RIGHT NEXT TO ME, immediately turns to me and pumps me full of lead. Even though I had been geared up to the teeth, I could do nothing but laugh, as I noticed he also clearly shat his pants when he accidentally proned right next to me :DD And I don't really blame him for it, I had a ghillie and an AS50 in my hands, that I scoped the distance with. I bet he thought I'm there sniping on noobs, And I think it's actually a pretty common snipingplace that I had stumbled to. Anyway, that was a legit death and I totally approve. He deserved it. Other than those two encounters, I've been successful circling around people, even if I'd like to try and see if they're friendly. And right now I have all the best gear I could possible want and I see no reason to join any server for any purpose, as the only way I can go, is DOWN. I wish there was something to do now that I'm geared up.. I mean, something else than either try to fix vehicles and getting shot while doing it, trying to make friends and getting shot while doing it or shooting people, getting shot while doing it ;D But nope, chernarus isn't a friendly place :P
  15. sarcasm83

    Hacker - or 'legitimate' griefer?

Yeah, but the problem is, you can't know if they've been deliberately duped by cheap methods (alt-F4 duping) OR if they're being spawned by a tent on every server restart. As right now tents seem to always revert to their last saved status (if the server has restarted at least once after the first save). BUT I think that particular player was indeed a hacker. I bet the two players would've seen him plant the Satchel Charge if he planted one legitly right there on the ground. Damn trollplayers... frustrating that you might play for 10 hours or so working up the gear you have and then die from something like this. Some people are just a-holes :P lol, did they ever have any idea you were watching them btw?
