    In game Brony Meetup! 2.0

So out of curiosity, is there anything specific planned for this meetup? Are we all just gonna mill about and play the game while on teamspeak or is there some event planned? Will we split into teams and compete for some goal? I ask because I'd like to know if we're supposed to start fresh on the coast or not. I recently stumbled onto an AS50 and I'm loathe to lose it without using it even once =D

    What about Green Mountain?

You know in a way, a mountain is a lot like a very large Hill and at times I'm sure it's very Silent. I wonder if that's significant in any way.

    What about Green Mountain?

My friend recently tried to go to Green Mountain. The story goes like this: My friends and I were on our home server moving north from Zelenogorsk to Stary and we had to skirt around the mountain as we did, suddenly a hail of bullets flies in our direction and one by one we go down to gunshots. There's denying a sniper or two had spotted us but we all went down too fast to figure out where. My friend instantly assumed the snipers were using the radio tower as a vantage point, I and my other friend were content to let our relatively crappy gear go, especially since night was nearing on the server and just decided to head to Belota to restock a bit before it got too dark, but my friend had a AS50 and NVG's on his character and was going to get his stuff back. When he got to where we died the bodies were already gone, we assumed they despawned. He said he was gonna go up the mountain to see if the snipers were there and if they might have looted his stuff. We were on voice chat the whole time and things went a bit like this. "I dont see anyone up here, not even at the top of the tower, its getting really dark though." Me: "You should start heading back, I found a CZ for you to use for now." "Yeah, I'm gonna start heading back down. Dammit, I was hoping they'd be up here, I even started frapsing so I cou- FUCK!" Me: "You alright?" "I got hit with something! My blood is at like 4k now! They have a silenced gun or something!" Me: "Fuck dude, get out of there!" "*static*" Me: "Still there?" I alt-tabbed to check and see if he was still on skype, it said he got disconnected, I assumed his internet went out on him, he'd been having Desynch issues all day. The next day I chatted with him and asked if he wanted to get back on, he responded with: "....nah, I dont think I'm gonna play for a while...I need a bit of a break." I asked him if he managed to record the bandits with fraps, he told me the file must have been corrupted or something because it wouldn't play for him. I asked him to send me the file to see if I could get it to work, the whole thing was badly distorted and the audio apparently didn't record. Except, I found one frame that seemed to be fine, it was near the end when he was running away from the tower. This is that frame.

    So close...

My advice, trust no one but your friends, sometimes not even them. You can be nice, you don't have to shoot on site, infact I recommend you dont, but never let the stranger with the shotgun be your rear guard. I'd say sleep with your back to the wall, but zombies can glitch through those ;)

    Being the Hunted

There's times in Day Z where death will be hot on your heels. You might have just been unlucky enough to stumble upon a guys camp while he was still around, you might have ran into a bandit who isn't keen to let his kill get away, you may be running from a crazy axe wielding survivor singing folk songs over Direct Communication while he chases you. I've found myself in quite a few of these situations and I have a few tips for others on how to turn things around. I'm going to start off by assuming your at a disadvantage to the player after you since you have to run away in the first place. 1. Break Line of Sight - Run through a clump of pine trees or hang a fast corner, once your pursuer cant see you, you just might have the chance to turn around and wait for them to round the corner himself and take them out, but more likely, they'll grow cautious when he cant see you and slow down, expecting an ambush, use this to your advantage to put some distance between you and them. 2. Zombies - Zombies most of the time are things to avoid, but in this situation they can be used to your advantage, they aggro to the closest player, so if you can get ones attention, with some clever maneuvering you can dump that zombie on the one chasing you, distracting them, if your lucky, the zed will break their leg, leaving you to get away. The bigger pack you can get to follow you, the more chance you have of one aggroing on your pursuer 3. Doors & Gates - This ones tricky but if you can get it to work it can be very effective, find a house with a door or a fence with a gate and run through it while trying to get your cursor on it and shutting it behind you. Your pursuer will be forced to stop and open it to get after you, putting distance between you and them, and thanks to a little glitchyness, if the door hits them, there's a chance it'll snap their leg. However be careful to only do this if you have another way out, or else you've just trapped yourself in a corner. I hope this helps some of you out there survive a little longer, and if you have other ideas on how to get someone off your ass, share them here!

Vanishing Ammo -- how do I stop it?

Ignore the troll. When you put a weapon in your bag, the inventory system will automatically take all the ammo for that gun with it, wether you have space or not. If you have space, you just saved yourself some time, if not, it "eats" all the ammo you didn't have room for. I'm pretty sure this is just how the Arma 2 engine works and is not a choice of the developers. To avoid this, you can try putting all your ammo in manually first (but make sure you leave the 10 slots for the gun or it'll eat that too) Or, you could try dropping it all on the ground then picking it up after you store the rifle, but that is tedious. Now, since it's a rifle, it's likely you wont need that much ammo for it anyways, most rifles are powerful enough to down a player in 2 shots, and most rifles are also loud as all hell, so you wanna avoid using it on zombies. So unless you're planning on a rambo-style last stand against a literal ton of zombies, you probably only need about 2 clips.

    Being the Hunted

My tips were more focused on the point after you've escaped the shooter and they leave their cover to come after you. In my experience most players aren't confident enough to shoot a moving target unless you're running in a completely straight line. (Something to avoid.) They prefer to wait until you slow down and come to a stop for them to take their shot. And its rare case that they'll come after you anyways, excluding the axe wielding maniac, bandits will usually let the kill go if they get away from the initial ambush, preferring to stay in their nice, safe, and warm cover until another target comes around. But those that do have that determination to get their kill, either through desperation or just sheer stubborness, they usually also have the determination to keep the chase on for a very long time, I was more worried about providing advice for that situation and getting away from those determined bandits, you know, aside from Aborting. But you do make a fair point about finding the shooter, that way you know what direction to run away from. :P

    Dayz goal / to easy

This game is a lot like Minecraft, once you secure the fact that you can support yourself for a long time with food and defense, its up to you to define your own goals, no matter how big or little. You may decide you just want to become the Anti-bandit and have a group of friends patrol around your home server, making it known that bandits are going to receive justice (or the reverse if you feel like it) or you can go bigger and perhaps you and some of your clan decide you want to open up a trading post for players on your server to safely trade items. (I've seen it done before, successfully even.) Sure you can get bored of sitting on all your items and wondering what to do now, but you'd also get bored of "Find the Cure." or "Escaping Chernarus." After a few times.

You have yourself a subscriber mate, I love your intro. If I ever see you I'll remember not to shoot but if you ever come after me with that axe I'll blow your brains out ;P
  17. Pretty much my "Loss of Innocence" Story, not long after I'd met my two friends we picked up one of their own friends and a straggler who stumbled on our group as we were meeting up at the rally point. Then we met Owner. He was another survivor who stumbled on the group as we made our way through Cherno. He had an enfield and a height advantage on us and he didn't open fire so we decided to let him tag along when he asked. We all decided we'd use our strength of numbers to hit the NW airfield for some better gear. After a few scrapes with a group of 3-4 bandits and quite a few zombie chases we'd made it to the Airfield, he was the last one to find himself a decent gun, a Remington shotgun. We'd already looped around and were about to hit the last barracks before booking it out of there when we aggro'd some zombies. Everyone opened fire at once, but Owner wasn't aiming for the Zombies. I was the first to go down with a fresh "What the hell!" On my lips and my friends and I regrouped on steam and found out everybody but Owner had died and he was the one in back with the semi-automatic shotgun. To this day it still confuses me why he waited so long to kill us. He was already geared and he seemed friendly enough as we travelled. My friend's theory is that he accidentally took me out with friendly fire and panicked, thinking my friends would turn on him for it and decided to end it all then. I've seen Owner once or twice on the same server we played on that day, and if I do see him again, he better watch his back. Not that it'll help when my CZ round tears through his skull ;P
  18. A couple weeks ago I was on maybe my third or fourth time through. After spawning near Belota and getting a Czech bag and some food I ran into the forest away from some gunfire. After getting all sorts of turned around in the trees I ended up on the northern tip of Cherno. (Where the hospital is.) When I was looting the apartment buildings for a weapon to make my way into the hospital I heard a voice warning me that zombies had caught wind of me and were making their way up the stairs. I was promptly eaten by them because I was scrambling to try and hook up my mic to communicate with the guy. After a respawn to the east of Cherno I made my way back into town and ended up in the same area again not too long after my death and decided to get my stuff back. Again I heard the voice of the helpful player who recognized me. He came down from his perch in the factory to say hello and I noticed he had a DRM on his back and was holding a revolver in his hand. He'd had 2 chances to easily kill me and didn't, so I trusted him. As we talked we heard a third voice come in from the hospital roof, who was also a fresh spawn like me and looking for friends. We all decided to stick together and travel up north, and from then on, we became great friends, even outside the game =P Day Z is fantastic for forging friendships. I've even been accidentally killed by one friend (His first murder even) but we managed to meet up again later and all was well. Of course not all attempts have gone so smoothly, regarding the time our entire group was slaughtered by a betrayer with a shotgun, but thats another story. >.> Needless to say, I prefer to make friends, but its not as easy as it used to be.
