bought a new pc and now this (fps)
gorg_graggel replied to IamFriendly (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
graz! :D thought i find it odd that .net made any difference...does arma even use that? i think .net 4 was released long after arma2 itself... regarding the windows updates: you don't do security updates regularly? if i were you i would think about that. you should ALWAYS do AT LEAST the security updates. most exploits around are based on the fact that ppl don't keep windows up to date and some security hole is used to infect it...virus protection won't save you from that... the times where some windows update bricked your pc somehow are long gone (well never say never, but i think ms have learned their lessons in that regard...) i have windows 7 since it was released and until 2 months ago, when i upgraded my pc, never had to reinstall it. during all that time NEVER EVER had an update somehow negatively impact my pc. and i ALWAYS install ALL updates, even the optional ones... edit: oh yeah, amd just released catalyst 12.8 (no release notes yet though)... you might want to install those...maybe they fixed something that gives you even more frames (or make it worse :P )... anyways, also install the 12.7 cap3 profiles... the ones included in the drivers are a few months older than the ones in the cap package... they are not available through the official page yet though, you can get them from here: http://translate.google.de/translate?u=http%3A//www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi%3Fid%3D1345045284&sl=de&tl=en&hl=de&ie=UTF-8 it's a german site translated through google...don't worry it's trustworthy ;) -
how much RAM does Dayz require?
gorg_graggel replied to Mrcakebombs's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
woah, that thing is really outdated...long time since i saw that kinda specs... i don't think that this will even start arma 2... sorry for bad news :( also regarding the second question... yes, it is possible to use the free version of arma, but you'd still need to buy the operation arrowhead addon and combine those... edit: something else i noticed, though it's not connected to dayz...just a general advice... your hard drive is split up into 2 equally sized partitions... your system partition (c:) is almost full while the second one (d:) is almost empty... you might want to transfer some data over there (user data like pictures, videos and stuff like that) and install your games on d: because windows itself needs some free space to operate well and the little space you have left on the windows partition may slow it down... -

how much RAM does Dayz require?
gorg_graggel replied to Mrcakebombs's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
as a rough overview this can be useful. however, it doesn't give info about installed drivers and some other useful info, which might help ppl make better estimates... also it installs additional software on your pc which may (not necessarily has to) pose a security risk (i'm not a fan of using external/additional software if the tools are already onboard)... -

have you tried... ...starting it without additional parameters? ...resetting your gfx drivers settings to their defaults? (which exact version do you use? did you install the application profile extension?) ...setting everything to low (or off) in the game's settings? Do you use the standard microsoft ahci drivers for your sata controller or did you install the amd one with the chipset driver package? Do you have the "C1E" power saving feature of your cpu enabled or disabled in your bios setup? Is your anti virus software maybe interfering? (maybe try setting exceptions for the game or disable/uninstall it for testing purposes) Is your Mainboard and video card bios up to date? Is Windows up to date? (which version do you use anyways?) How did you install your latest drivers? Just above the older ones or clean (unistall old ones, reboot, install new ones)? Are your NIC drivers up to date? Some of those points may sound redundant or not connected to the problem, but as a long time pc user you should be aware of such things... ;) -
how much RAM does Dayz require?

Follow the instructions in this thread to enable ppl to have a look at your pc specs: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/72066-how-to-find-out-your-pc-specs-without-additional-software/ this way ppl can estimate if your pc is suitable to run the game (and if you need to update drivers)... beware though, that the game is an alpha version (which means it has lots of bugs and problems), so even if your system is capable of running it, it's possible that it won't work or only with some effort put into it. so if you plan to buy arma2 and operation arrowhead just for dayz and you are running low on money, you might be disappointed...(you might want to wait for the standalone release of the game, which is to be released sometime later this year) if you don't have a problem with potentially wasting your money, knock yourself out... ;) -

How to find out your pc specs WITHOUT additional software
gorg_graggel posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I have skimmed through the forums noticing that a lot of ppl are struggling to give detailed pc specs if they have a problem or want to know if their system will run the mod. Mostly the specs are either inaccurate or incomplete. I guess it would be easier for everyone if one method is established throughout the forum to make it easier for ppl to help or get help. I have posted it in a few other posts I made, but it didn't receive a lot of attention. So I thought of posting a topic specifically about it might help everbody. For this you don't need to install any other software as it is part of DirectX and thus is included with Windows. So here we go: 1. Open your stat menu an type "dxdiag" into the search field. 2. right click the "dxdiag.exe" icon and select "start as administrator" (may not be needed, depending on how windows is setup or what version you use...in that case just click to start it). 3. The tool may ask if you want it to check if the drivers are certified. This can be skipped. 4. Right on the first tab there should be a button in the lower region of the window that says something along the lines of "save all information to a file..." Click on it and save the file somewhere you will find it again (e.g. on the desktop). 5. When posting click the "More Reply Options" button. This will open a post editor with more options. 6. Below the text field you have the opportunity to "Attach Files". Click the "Browse" button and look up the file you just created with the "DxDiag" tool and select it. 7. Wait a few seconds for it to upload and then post it. cheers -
How to find out your pc specs WITHOUT additional software
gorg_graggel replied to gorg_graggel's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
possibly, but it also installs a browser plug in which could cause security issues. Both ways don't give details about what drivers are installed and are not detailed enough... Some problems need more information about one's system and the machine generated report provides that without the need to install additional software (hassle/potential security issues) as it's included with Windows. -
i'd say it's on the very egde of being able to run... the cpu is veeeery slow and the gpu (while good for an integrated one) is also not very fast... i also can't say anything about your ram, cause its speed (1,7ghz) is rather unimportant compared to its amount... if you want to tell ppl your pc specs the easiest thing to do is: type "dxdiag" in the search field in your windows start menu save the info to a file (theres a button for that) and attach it to your post...

will this laptop run dayz pretty good??
gorg_graggel replied to x_Lisa_x's topic in New Player Discussion
well, if you want to buy that for playing dayz, i'd say don't...look for something that has a decent gpu (i googled it and what gpu is inside was stated nowhere, so i guess it's the integrated intel thing, which is crap)... if you already have this laptop, then you'll probably won't be able to even launch dayz due to system requirements... -
[Guide] Setting up an Xbox 360 Controller for DayZ
gorg_graggel replied to Mucwa's topic in New Player Discussion
well, i get why... most triple a shooter titles of the last years have been designed around gamepads. that in itself isn't much of a big deal. but the fact that those games get (badly) ported onto pc and represent the majority of succesful titles makes ppl react rather "allergically" when someone "threatens" their pc games which such a thing... i grew up with doom, quake and ut and i'm sure games like those don't get made anymore, because they wouldn't be the huge successes that modern console ports are in comparison (they would be huge successes compared to quake etc, but that doen't seem to count when the industry only cares about shareholder value)... todays shooters have become so slow and ppl blame it on gamepads...kinda... BUT: i can perfectly understand that somneone wants to use a pad due to disability or other circumstances which the op mentioned...so...whatever... just my 2 cents... -
