How important is NAT Negotiation to server hosters?
rekrul replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
My experience in the Telco market tells me that these days, most routers with NAT has UPnP enabled. I don't know how that works for you code-wise compared to GameSpy though. Seeing as the servers are a crucial part of the Dayz experience, I would like for it to have some darwinism in there. If they can't forward ports when they're behind a NAT GW, which is a really low bar, I don't think you'll be missing out on much. Also, with so many different NAT types out there (Full cone, restricted cone, PAT, etc), a logic in the server to circumvent port forwarding is probably going to be a hassle to maintain. I've always forwarded ports for my A2/OA servers and never got it working without so I'm not sure how much value GameSpy is adding here. Finally, even MW2 required port forwarding, both for PC and PS3 version, just to play multiplayer - so I don't think you need to worry too much about the serverside aspect of this [port forwarding that is]. -

I should also add that with the increase of fiber-connection (FTTH) penetration in Europe, many people are running servers on their home connection and need to use NAT. Additionally, you should put IPv6 in the pipe where you won't have NAT problems. -
How important is NAT Negotiation to server hosters?

What do you mean by NAT negotiations? As in making the server send out packets on the requested ports to open the GW? I'm sure most admins can live with port forwarding. If you mean putting the source/native IP in the payload, that is generally a horrible idea and can cause several other headaches. Can't you just use the IP header and let the GW do it's NAT magic? Edit: Answer to what NAT negotiations is, is here: http://docs.poweredbygamespy.com/wiki/NAT_Negotiation_Implementation_Introduction -

So what's the point of the entrenching tool then? I guess it was to be used with sandbags but due to a bug it's completely useless?

I'm a hero, but the white shirt is just a huge bullet magnet in the woods so I'm always using ghillie.

Kicked with what message?

You could ask RRF to pick you up. Do you have a GPS so you know your coords?

If you're eager, reinstall OA, run as administrator, then install DayZ with Dayz commander. Download it from official site and never accept any "fixes" from users offering help on PM. They're probably after your CD-Key.

http://dayzmod.com/f...02-oculus-rift/ http://dayzmod.com/f...s-rift-support/ http://dayzmod.com/f...and-alone-dayz/ You have to take into consideration that what they're selling on kickstarter is just a dev version for creators to start developing support for it. A commercial solution would probably not be available before 2014. Edit: Sorry, forgot the important one - http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/y4x6i/iama_rocket_potential_questions/c5sdpot

"Kicked-Battleye not responding" whenever I try to play on a dayz server
rekrul replied to TaintedSteel's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This usually happens because your router doesn't have any more connections to offer. This is more of a problem with older routers but even my new new top-spec'ed can struggle with this. When you have p2p/torrent running, fire up dayz commander which contacts 5000+ servers you exhaust the routers capabilities. Close your torrent client a few minutes before you want to play. After dayz commander is finished refreshing all servers, wait 3-5 minutes (depending on your router's timeout settings but 3 minutes is usually enough). Then join a server. Another freak process I had consistently success with during these troubles (not leaving uTorrent up was the permanent fix as I discovered a bug in the router handling "zombie-connections") was downloading the BE client dll from BE's site to my desktop, then every time before I joined a server, i copied it to OA/Expansion/BE folder. I have no logical reason why this gave me 90% success rate before 1.17x versions but it did, so give it a shot. -
Are you sure you didn't join a private server that's not connected to the public hive?
-
Uhm, so do you get wrong CD key when joining a server, you can't start DayZ or OA, or what? Could you be more specific about the things that "doesn't work"?
-
I assume it's not as simple as you still having the debug UI up so all icons shows as green even though you might be starving? If your avatar is coughing it might an infection as Razorman suggests.

Got hacked for first time and now not sure what to do....
rekrul replied to Mark88's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You haven't lost your equipment or tents just so you're aware of that. After a restart the tents are back with the stuff which was in them before they were crushed. However if the server takes more than 7 days to restart, they will be gone as you can't save them now. Try contacting the server admin, if possible, and report what happened. He might restart the server for you. And yes, hackers can get a HUD/radar with all tents, vehicles, players, zombies and animals since this is sent from the server and the client decides what to display from my understanding. -
I agree but it's better than sifting through 15 pages to find a nugget or two. For this to work I here I think there should be a heavy moderated thread with suggestions only - no discussion. Then you create a parallel discussion only - no suggestions thread to pile the heaps of shit in. ;) The mods would delete anything that says "I don't agree with x because y" or opposite. Also only structured posts following a specific layout like bulletpoints with one-liners on top and then a paragraphed, descriptive text beneath if needed. Any posts failing to follow that would be deleted. This would limit the number of posts and it would be very easy for the devs to read through and allow them to ignore the half-a-page-Godzilla suggestion without missing the genius inventory system in the same post.
