Why is view distance set by the server?

Bone is right about the mission setting the VD, not the server. However, my desktop is atleast 2 years old and I use 10km VD and get 20-30 FPS in OA so I would very much like a higher VD in DayZ. -

Wow, that's horrendous. Try Arma2 and see how that looks. Then OA. If they are fine, try re-installing DayZ. If they are as bad, you need to sort it out there first, at least OA which is the engine that DayZ is running on. Try turning graphics down to minimum on everything and work yourself up from there to localize what feature causes it. If the problem is still there on the lowest setting, try the BIS forum - they have pretty much seen all the faults you can stumble over. http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?83-ARMA-2-amp-OA-TROUBLESHOOTING

Would you mind elaborating what you mean with custom loadout? Does the server give you a certain loadout, is that it? Or do you have some weird models that you're trying to use? And finally, what error message do you get? -
Again: Download DayzCommander, install and run it. It will do everything for you - you don't have worry about moving/doing anything else. Just a heads up, before you do, run Steam as admin, run Arma2, close, run OA, close, then install. Steam needs to write to registry before you get it working.

Uhm. If I remember correctly, you need to run it as a dedicated server where you don't need a cd-key. Also, blocking the port doesn't help as it needs an Ok from BIS' auth/cd-key server to continue, unless it's set to LAN. I've only ran servers in A2/OA so I'm not sure how DayZ works, but I guess you need a MySL server running as well to be the hive. Finally, be careful with what you download as there's tons of cd-key stealer-programs out there. -

There are several threads here about it, but I don't know how well the search function works. The short story is that his router has probably ran out of connections. First, upgrade router firmware and test. If that doesn't help, turn off any bit-torrent clients he has running a few minutes before he connects. Same thing if for Dayz-commander/playwithsix. If he has browsed all the servers, that's 4-5000 connections right there. Usually this should time out after 3 minutes-ish but ymmv. If he has to wait 5 minutes, he has a crappy router. -

It might be related to the latest beta-releases that has introduced secure IDs? Read more here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?143091-Secure-ID-progress Why does it matter though? It's just something used internally on the server and not related to your GUID at all. -
You need to get both Arma2 and OA working before you try DayZ, Give exact error messages you're getting when/if starting them.

What does the server log say? -
Well, #10 means item 10 in your remoteexec-file, or possibly script-file on the server. Try asking in the server-forum - there are more server admins there who could probably help you. The short story is that they're trying to do something that the server has defined as illegal. You (or rather the server) use BE to find out what the client does. This isn't something that triggers a global ban though, it's just something that's happening on your server that you don't allow.

You could get banned from the server though, but not a BE ban.

It might be a, sorry about the pun, zombie connection. Meaning the server still thinks you're logged in. Once the server reboots or restarts, you should be good. This is a wild guess on my part though. -

Its a community ban list, BE can't do anything about that. You have to find a server that doesn't use the CBL. -

Bad serial has nothing to do with the cd-key so asshat is wrong. Read the sticky for solution.
