Your saddest moment in Dayz
[email protected] replied to Vescend's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Finding an ALICE back pack and climbing one of those water tower ladders with a pistol. Boy it was a sad moment for like the first 3 seconds then I started laughing my ass off. -
Is every gun the dinner bell now?
[email protected] replied to Hutch (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe they should change zombies AI so that when you fire a gun, they can hear it from a distance, but instead of aggro-ing, they investigate the general area of the sound. If you're smart you can kill a few zombies while dodging any investigating zombies. -
I found that bus spawn once before. Too bad when I found it, the bus was missing a tire in the front, so It just kept turning.

IRL in an apocalypse, you would have more interaction, you would talk to the other guy, try to find out where he came from etc, you can also see peoples facial expressions and the tone of his voice. Also, In a real apocalypse anyone with common sense would band together and never travel without a partner. And on the subject of bandit skins. I would like rocket to make another experiment and reintroduce them. I would love to see what happens now with a larger playerbase. -
OP : zombies are too hard and spot me too easily. ME : Zombies never spot me (night is your friend) and if they do aggro towards me there's also any one of the 100000 trees (you want one with leaves at the bottom) that you can run through, which will usually de-aggro them.

Swimming causes you to lose all of your inventory
[email protected] replied to scofieldr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you can't fill up a water bottle without going into swimming mode then you need to learn to play a little bit better.. It's also an alpha mod on top of an already buggy engine. The mod isn't going to be perfect and it will probably be bug ridden until it goes stand alone. -
Swimming causes you to lose all of your inventory
[email protected] replied to scofieldr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Isn't it also related to your characters fatigue? I believe you can swim longer the less fatigued you are. "instantly" losing your gear could be from you entering water whilst still being extremely fatigued (heavy breathing) -

I agree. It happens to alot of games, in dayz the fun factor of finding loot and teaming up is kinda lost after everyone and their grandmother knows where everything spawns. Games are so much more fun and enjoyable when you're completely new to the experience. The game has gotten too easy. Like you said, it needs to be more brutal and In my opinion more random in terms of loot spawns as such. In my ideal Day Z every server would be different from each other. One server may have a huge military base in cherno, with most of the roads leading in/out of the city being barricaded. Whilst the next server you join, cherno might be almost void of zombies and might have next to zero loot due to a hypothetical mass evacuation pre-zombie invasion. It would also help cut down on the amount of camping locations. Guy 1 camps stary for a living on server #1. Server #1 is down so he goes to server #2 to find that starys military camp doesn't exist on that server. He wants to know where the military camp is and runs into a group of two players who are well geared weapon wise, but in need of food. He asks them where the camp is and they agree to part the information at the cost of 4 cans of food/meat. The two parties part ways and have what they needed...or did they...maybe those two guys lied about the location and actually gave up the location of a town with a high zombie spawnrate. Exploration is one of the main features of Day Z and is key to survival, But now there is little real "exploration" and more traveling to known loot spawns. There's no fun in knowing where everything might potentially spawn. Exploration also helps build social interactions, I was once inside the stary super-market when I saw another player, he saw me and ran into the back and I ran outside again, we both said friendly and met each other in the front of the store. I asked him. "Do you know where the military camp is in this town?" (It was raining heavily and it was night time, even back when gamma worked alot better visibility was extremely poor) To my surprise he replies "Yeah, I can show you if you want." I say "Sure, I would appreciate it." We're about 50 meters from the tents and I ask him "Wanna help me loot these?" He replies "No thanks man, I gotta split, but thanks for the offer." I then reply back "Well thanks for the tour ;), good luck" -

I feel your pain bro, soon after the mod was released I started playing the game. I spawned near cherno (IIRC) and got some supplies and headed to the construction site. (at this point I didn't know I was in cherno as I hadn't familiarized myself with the map.) Nothing in the Construction site except some useless windscreen glass. I went up the crane next to the site and upon reaching the top, used the sit down button and went to make myself some food. I came back 15 minutes later. still breathing. In cherno. (40 man max server, about 25-30 players on) Then I noticed a guy in the construction site below, I contacted him through Side chat and said that I was a friendly in the Crane. He asked me if I had a blood bag which I did. We came to the agreement that we would meet at the bottom of the ladder and I would lower my weapon upon reaching the bottom. I did so and then proceeded to give him a blood transfusion. He then asked if I knew of any spare guns nearby. I said no, but asked how much makarov mags he had. 3, He replied. So I gave up my Winchester and took his 3 mags. We then decided to team up and raid some barns and such for 3 or so hours and when we agreed to come to stopping point we added each other on steam. This became my first social experience in Day Z and it felt good. Now what would happen if I tried the same thing today? I'd be dead by the time I reached the top of the crane if I was lucky enough to make it that far. -

Your GFX Card And How It Runs.
[email protected] replied to Condork's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sapphire Radeon HD5850 Toxic(overclocked) - runs at an average of 45 or so fps. Minimum of 30ish. Maxxed out all settings except AA and the god-awful post-process effects. I also run a AMD Phenom II 1090t. Although good luck finding a 5850 that isn't second hand. -
your first murder experience
[email protected] replied to vithu153's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My current character was freshly spawned. I was close to elektro, so I decided I would hit and run some apartments and eventually ended up in the firestation (in the city) I call out friendly via direct chat. No reply. I assume it's clear whilst pointing my Winchester towards the opening of each set of stairs, to be ready if there was someone at the top. To my surprise, this guy was sitting at the top of the tower with a Leeroy Enfield, his eyes glued to the staircase (but in fairness, he probably heard my footsteps). *Bang*. A Enfield round wizzed towards me...but I'm amazed, he missed, from 2 ish meters away. After my sudden realization, I put 2 shells into his chest and he dropped dead. But my murder count had increased. I felt sad that I had maybe killed some fresh cherno spawn who heard me and assumed I was hostile. I checked his body for anyway I could help him, but he was gone for good. I check his gear and he had something that I needed, an ALICE Pack and matches, hatchet, etc. He couldn't have been newly spawned then, too much loot. I took what I needed and left the body. He could have whatever I had left for him. His lee enfield had set the zombies below us into aggro and I could hear them at the bottom stairs. I panicked and used that Firestation ladder glitch to escape them and headed out of elektro before I ran into anyone else. My one and ONLY murder in my characters 43+ day lifespan (and my whole time playing this game) I refuse to be one of those people who can only "survive" by killing others. -

Why do guys play as girl characters?
[email protected] replied to Jackftw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know why I prefer female characters, I can play as a male one if I want, but I just prefer females. I'm not going to give you some stupid excuse like "Oh, I prefer staring at a female characters ass than a males", Because I hardly ever look at my character. My eyes are on the surroundings. Maybe people would complain less about losing their gear if they spent less time looking at the virtual ass of their character :P. Also my friend says I have a, and I quote, "white ass pants" which are more visible to him in the night. -
to my knowledge , the ak74m, aks 74u and aks 74u kobra are all legit weapons in dayz.

What's up with the loot spawning?

Yeah, I've noticed this too. My friend and I were raiding the military camp in stary and found 3 MP5a5's...pretty unusual. -
I'm on a BOAT.. But how do i....
[email protected] replied to Geckco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wish people would play the ARMA 2 Tutorials before playing dayz, because I'm pretty sure that inventory, vehicle management(e.g. it's out of fuel) and stuff like that is all covered in tutorials. -
Actually...my friend and I were really reluctant to play on night server last night, we both hated the zero visibility thing and after trying to (unsuccessfully) find a daylight server. We wen't from the dam on the top of the map to stary, raiding several deer stands on the way and checking out some potential vehicle spawns. Eventually we were looking for a deer stand that wasn't there, when my friend sees a light in the middle of a dark field. He starts literally shitty himself, asking me if it's a fire. I reply no, as there's no glow emitting from the light source. My friend suggests that it might be another player camping with a flashlight in his tent. I throw some flares. The first didn't land close enough and only gave off a silhouette of what the objects, it looked metal, a shack maybe? I threw another flare. Right on target. I was amazed. a downed heli. After carefully maneuavering past the zombies we looted the chopper and received a fal. Had the server not been night, we probably would've found that mystery deer stand and would've continued along the road, instead of cutting across the field and seeing the odd light of a glitched minigun muzzle flash. We love playing on night servers now, even if the only thing that illuminates the way is the flashlight of my Glock. So no, I don't give a crap if the server GMT is advertised incorrectly, as we now see the benefit and excitement behind night.
