Just a basic question. I just picked one up and before I fire the single steel bolt that I have at a zombie, I'd like to know if that is enough to kill him. Headshot kills instantly? Body shot? If anyone could give me some info on this that would be GREAT. Oh, and how is the 'bullet' drop? Is it hard to aim? I would run into the woods and do some practicing (since you can pick up the bolts after you fired them, correct?) but with only 1 bolt that'd be a very time consuming venture.

Whenever I join a server which isn't very crowded, I sometimes, instead of sprinting through cities like Cherno or Elektro, just sneak around, trying to avoid zombies and not aggro them. I also like to walk instead of run from time to time. Oh, and often I'll just leave imba guns on the ground for my trusty Winchester. I love that thing.

I'm Sure I'm Not The Only One: Opinions On The Game's Sniper Rifles
-Atlas- replied to LightbulbGuy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't like snipers at all. I always gravitate towards the assault rifles, but nothing beats a Winchester. I'll drop most guns for the Winchester. It's not amazing, but I like how it looks, sounds, etc. Picking off people with a thermal scope L85 just doesn't feel right. -
Hey DayZ crowd, A thing that has been on my mind for a while now is a system that rewards people for staying alive for a certain amount of time. The way I see it, this would not only add a new dimension to the game, in which it will pay off to survive for long periods of time, but it could also give people a reason to shy away from deathmatching and avoid situations in which they have a high risk of getting killed. The rewards could be spread out over the amount of days you survive. You could get a small reward at around 10 days, a slightly bigger one at 30, etc. The bottomline is; People will be more careful and less likely to go to big cities with the goal of deathmatching, because of the risk of dying. The big question ofcourse would be: What are the rewards? In my opinion the rewards can't be too powerful, but they should be worth the effort. Please do not think in terms of guns. The rewards you would gain should be in line with the general idea of DayZ. I've done a bit of thinking, but I found it isn't easy to come up with something that I have just described, apart from something obvious like a new skin. This is where you come in. I would like to hear from you guys what you think the rewards for survival should be. Please post your suggestions below!

Greetings DayZ crowd! What I'm about to explain is pretty much summarized by the title. Animals are simply too common and easy to kill right now. This is a big part of what makes survival in DayZ such a breeze. Therefore I think that animals should be made -much- more elusive. 1. Animals should have a decreased spawnrate during daytime and an increased spawnrate during night time. Either way, their spawn should be way lower than it is now. 2. Animals should have very good senses and they should be able to hear you coming from a long distance away, unless you are properly sneaking. Right now, animals don't seem to be spooked by you in any way. You can just walk right up to them and they won't even run away. Animals should run at the slighest hint of trouble. 3. Animals should no longer spawn near towns and cities. They would obviously be scared away by the constant noises zombies create. They should stick to forests and not just be chilling in the middle of an open field. Just some thoughts. Feel free to add. I think we can all agree survival in DayZ needs to become more of a challenge.

People have too much of a stiffy for those damn sniper rifles. I hate snipers. Even when I get my hands on one I drop it for the first assault rifle I find. Romantized one-shot-one-kill bullcrap. I agree, man. Cut back on the sniper rifles. It would make the game a lot more fun.

Not to mention the fact that heatpacks would become way more useful!

I'm really trying to be a nice guy at the moment. It isn't so easy, because most survivors will just shoot you on sight, friend or foe.

Has anyone actually died of Hunger or Thirst ?
-Atlas- replied to Spunkmire's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm pretty sure more people would be dying of hunger if we didn't have that silly map that shows all the loot places... >.> -
Hey guys, I ran across some real funny stuff this morning as I was scouting Elektro on a not-so-crowded server. There were like 7 or 8 guys online when I joined, so I figured it'd be safe to get into Elektro and grab some stuff, since I had just died last night and quit right after, I was pretty much naked. Right when I walked into the building people seem to be calling 'the schoolhouse' (place pretty close to the grocery store, always has tons of stuff in it) I hit the newbie-jackpot. Makarov, Czech backpack, Lee Enfield, tons of ammo. Everything I needed to get started again, basically. So once I get to the roof of the building, I suddenly hear some zombies getting aggroed, accompanied by a couple of shots that bounce off a wall besides me. Obviously I quickly hit the deck, but I wasn't really sure whether those bullets were aimed at me. I figured the best thing to do was to atleast get off the roof where I may attract even more attention, so I went down to the 1st floor of the building, where I see the guy walking up the stairs, right when I come down. Somehow I think he didn't manage to see me until the last second, so he must've figured I had a bead on him and he sprinted into a room, whereas I laid down at the opposite end of a hall, my gun fixed onto the door of the room he went into. He had nowhere to go, basically, and since he had already fired shots at me before, I sure as hell wasn't going in there. I tried talking to the guy, but he didn't respond. A couple of minutes passed. One zombie made it's way up the stairs and I thought it was going to enter the room with the guy in it, but sadly it turned back right when he was about to enter. A couple more minutes pass. I occasionally see him peeking outside (well, his gun was sticking through the door). I'm guessing that he was using the 3rd person camera to see where I was at. I'm not sure if he managed to see me (should be fixed, 1st person only). A couple more minutes pass. I then see him trying to get out of the room in prone, when suddenly another guy ran up the stairs with a double barrel shotgun. I'm guessing it was the friend of the guy in the room, since he first turned towards me and unloaded in my face. Yeah, 2 double barrel shotgun rounds from little over 5 meters away, and somehow, I'm still alive. One shot with my Lee Enfield takes him down, but I'm not sure if the guy that was cowering in the room also put a round into him, since he was standing directly between me and mr. coward. So my screen is blurry and shakey as hell as I try to take down my archnemesis on the other side of the hall. By some stroke of genius (pure luck) my first shot takes him out and I can finally breathe. Well... Kind of. 4k health, losing blood fast. After some bandages and painkillers I heard the zombies starting to stream in. Meanwhile I am checking the hall for guy #2. I see the body of guy #1 on the far end of the hallway, but #2 is nowhere to be seen. After the zombies left I looted guy #1, he had some pretty good stuff. Blood bags (just what I needed... Now I just need someone to give them to me... x.x), ALICE pack, some Enfield ammo. Guy #2 though, I think alt+f4'd, because he was nowhere to be seen and there was no way for him to dodge all those zombies. Atleast one of the guys decided to give me my well-deserved loot. ^^ Funnily enough, my murder count didn't go up, so I'm thinking that zombies ate guy #1, and guy #2 did alt+f4.

I see what you did there.

Turn off or reduce the blur effect that appear when life is under 4000

Yeah, that stuff is bad. Still, it does add to the overall experience imo. I wouldn't like to see it removed. -

So far I've never killed another player, encountered a few and been shot by another played too. Thing is, I am pretty cautious and I tend to stay away from highly populated servers. I am always looking for comrades, though, so feel free to message me. Steam name: Atlas

What is the point to DayZ, if not to kill players?
-Atlas- replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's what you make of it, really. If your imagination doesn't bring you further than 'kill players', then fine, be that way. Personally, I try to make contact with people, help them. I -try- to be the good guy. Not always easy, but that's what makes the challenge for me. Killing players, strangely enough, is also part of my challenge. I mainly try to find bandits, put a bullet between their brains. -
A thing that pops up very frequently on the forums is whether or not zombies should be made stronger. I hope to shine a little bit of light on the subject and give a suggestion as to how I think things should be to find a balance between challenge, teamplay and newb-friendliness. First off, I DO think that zombies should be made a bigger threat. What I personally would like the most is if their smelling and hearing would be buffed significantly. When you attract a zombie right now, the sounds that the zombie will make won't attract others. This should change. Once you attract one zombie, you should attract a whole horde. If you fire a gun, every zombie in the area should atleast come to investigate. Right now, it's just laughably easy to sneak past a zombie, and IF one would see you, all you do is chop him with your axe (the axe should definitely be nerfed too. 1hit kills+ bigger range than zombies just make it the perfect zombie-killing weapon. We want zombies to be a threat right?) Stronger zombies, a bigger risk in alerting them and placing packs of zombies around places that have particularly interesting loot, should be a start to promoting more teamplay. Now comes the next part of my suggestion: Making zombies stronger and a bigger threat does ofcourse promote teamplay, but it also makes the newbies that just started out to be even more vulnerable than they already were. To balance this out, I think zombies should no longer be spread across an entire village, but instead they should roam in packs (not sure how easily this is from a technical perspective?). Right now, I think the main reason that people complain about zombies being too strong, is that in order to get your basic kit together, you HAVE to get close to zombies. You HAVE to take the big risk even just to start out. It's very easy to sneak past zombies, but sometimes it may bug, sometimes a zombie may spawn behind you, or sometimes one may come around a corner where you didn't expect it. This is where I think the big issue lies. Beginners should atleast have the option to find some gear in places where the risk is lower. Now, I'm aware that the game is supposed to be hard, and that people shouldn't be asking for handouts, so obviously whatever you can find that isn't 'guarded' by zombies shouldn't be of high quality. Basic things like food and water, perhaps a handgun or two with an occasional 'rare' item like binoculars or something along those lines. Not only do I think this will balance out the stronger zombies, but it will also encourage exploration of the map. I remember that the first thing I did when I spawned (at night, I might add) was go into the forest in the hopes to find some abandoned shack where I could pick up some survival gear. I kind of expected zombies to be mainly in the big village. They turned out to be -everywhere-. I think that should change. In all honesty, I kinda wrote this down out of an impulse, so there may be some holes here and there. Feel free to comment and discuss.

A couple of days back I joined a regular ArmA2 game on Chernarus (this was before I got DayZ) and it had really dense fog in it. The fog really gave a lot of atmosphere to the map and I remember being pretty much awestruck about how the world looked so differently with the fog. I'm not sure if it has been implemented into DayZ, either way I haven't seen it yet after a couple days of playing. I don't know whether the fog was an actual weather effect, or that the maximum view distance was just drastically reduced, but in either case I think it would really change things up to have some dense fog every once in a while.

Sick of bandits, looking for group to make an anti-bandit team. Hit me up if your keen
-Atlas- replied to atadstrange's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't wanna be a jerk, because I hate bandits as much as anyone, but if you got picked off -all- the time, like you said, don't you think there's something about your way of getting about that's attracting unnecessary attention? Perhaps you need to be more stealthy. -
I like the removal of the kill message. Right now it's just too much of a cheap way to check if your bullet landed.
-
Well, this game breeds dicks, basically. When you get killed by a player once, you'll think twice before giving another person a chance. At some point everyone becomes a dick. I don't shoot on sight, but if I manage to sneak up on you I'll hold you at gunpoint until guns are dropped and handed over.

This game is going to shit if we dont do something soon
-Atlas- replied to ZERQER's topic in New Player Discussion
Bruh. Never trust anyone. It gets you killed. There's nothing wrong with tagging along with someone, but NEVER trust. Always watch your own back. Never ask if someone's friendly UNLESS you have your gun pointed at their head.
