Why bandits are needed in dayz...
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ethics get you dead. Here is what Col. Kurtz said about it. "We went back there, and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember … I … I … I cried. I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized … like I was shot … like I was shot with a diamond … a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God … the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not monsters. These were men … trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love … but they had the strength … the strength … to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men, then our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral … and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling … without passion … without judgment … without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us." -
How Hypocritical Heroes are Worse than Bandits
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to =CHRTB=Zilch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Simply this. "I've seen horrors … horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that … but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face … and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies." -

Who are you to tell another player how to enjoy a game? Why do you think that he should enjoy the game the same way as you? Does he not have a right to play Day Z the way he wants to? -
What is the difference between a bandit and a coward?
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Read your entire post. Very well written. Unfortunately this thread is a place where people will come to vent anger over getting killed, and they may not want to hear logic. In any case, thank you for the educated post. -
What is the difference between a bandit and a coward?
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I usually post on threads, such as this, with intentions of clearing up the general misconception of the word "Bandit" Seeing as it's a pointless fight, I will say this. You all take this game WAY to serious if you're discussing morality in a virtual word. It's just a game. Anyone who plays Day Z has a right to be a Bambie, Hero, Coward, or Bandit. Quit imposing your idea of "good conduct' or "professional play style" on others. Just let people play the damn game. -
What if we removed the crosshair?
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You wont remove the crosshair, I call no balls..... lol In all seriousness I think it would be great if you removed it. Just an opinion. -
Are KOS kiddies cowardly and stoopid?
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to Rastamaus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The British said the same thing during the revolution. It's simple, play to win (in combat). Honor has no place on the battlefield (or in combat) Not to mention you're making a generalization without knowing why people do KOS. This is a very ignorant post. -

Getting accused for hacking?
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to Toombs (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's a basic immature reaction. People attack that which they do not understand. Look at most FPSs, the second someone does not understand how you are doing what you are, they yell "hacks" True story, that's how our clan got our name in BF3. Try to ignore it the best you can. Good luck and happy hunting. PS: http://awkack.org/index.php -
Why hackers are so common: a theory
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to carpenatedbevrage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Very well put OP. You hit the nail on the head with this statement. "It's a disincentive because someone who doesn't have a good attention span or is lazy doesn't want to spend hours collecting gear, they want to experience the best the game has to offer right away." We see that happen with the F2P games out for the PC. A lot of players will pay to win rather than work for reward. Seriously, very well written post. Beans for you. -
what do you guy think a bandit is?
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to leadergorilla's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Definition of BANDIT 1: plural also ban·dit·ti : an outlaw who lives by plunder; especially : a member of a band of marauders 2: robber 3: an enemy plane (merriam-webster) Here is another definition that I think better fits Day Z ban·dit n. 1. A robber, especially one who robs at gunpoint. 2. An outlaw; a gangster. 3. One who cheats or exploits others. 4. Slang A hostile aircraft, especially a fighter aircraft. Idiom: make out like a bandit Slang To be highly successful in a given enterprise. (The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language) -
Should i buy arma 2 or wait for standalone
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to TheEscapist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In reply to the cost. This is straight from the DAY Z page. "Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price." If you remember, Minecraft in alpha was cheep and I know I picked it up for something in the teens. If you don't mind spending a little just get Arma 2 and the Operation Arrowhead on steam. There are some epic mods. IE: Wastelands, that life thing, ACE Here is the page I pulled my facts from: http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/ -
I noticed the same thing.

I picked this name for 2 reasons. 1: Kurtz is my real last name and I did serve in the US Army. 2: Col. Kurtz is a character from a great movie called Apocalypse Now. Here is a clip from Wikipedia on Col. Kurtz (From the movie) Kurtz employed barbaric methods not only to defeat his enemy but also to send fear. At first MACV didn't object to Kurtz's tactics, especially as they proved successful. This soon changed when Kurtz allowed photographs of his atrocities to be released to the world. In late 1968, when Kurtz failed to respond to MACV's repeated orders to return to Da Nang and resign his command after he ordered the summary execution of four South Vietnamese intelligence agents whom he suspected of being double agents for the Viet Cong, the MACV sent a Green Beret Captain named Richard Colby to bring Kurtz back from Cambodia. Colby joined up with Kurtz instead of bringing him back to Da Nang, either because he was brainwashed or because he felt a sympathy to Kurtz's cause. With Colby's failure, MACV then selected CPT Benjamin L. Willard, a former paratrooper and now a CIA assassin, to journey up the Nung river and kill Kurtz. Willard succeeded in his mission only because Kurtz, himself broken mentally by the savage war he had waged, wanted Willard to kill him and release him from his own suffering. Before Willard killed him, Kurtz asked Willard to find his (Kurtz's) wife and son and explain truthfully what he'd done in the war.

On a Hive, your progress will not transfer to other servers. Make sure you're not playing on Hives and or pick a Hive and only play on that particular one.

This -----------^ Try Play With Six. I find it easy to use and tons of servers.

Sniping People from Km's away.
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) replied to latiasracer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Even in the tree line you can be a target. The cloths you wear stand out against the trees. When moving stay about 100m-200m in the tree line. Laziness kills. Most players will only go about 1-2 rows of trees in. If you know where you are heading put as much as you can in between you and the town (trees and rocks). Easy rule "If you can see the town, people in the town can see you". Also, fun fact! If you have a map, open it and zoom in. You should be able to hold SHIFT and then left click a location of where you want to go. This will make a way point you can follow without opening your map.
