Credit to those who play without a microphone
dutch_miller replied to Sula's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
True, my desktop that I play DayZ does not work with a mic, for some reason I have yet to discover despite hours of setting changes and troubleshooting. Instead, I use a netbook with teamspeak and communicate with others like that but if I meet people in game I have to type it out, which is a pain in the ass. -
Copy and paste from my post in the "Bandit Morals" thread It's different in real life because it is easy to survive on your own in DayZ. It's realistic, sure, but it's not realistic enough to base your opinion of real life survival. Let me reiterate - if you base your survival strategy in a real apocalypse off of DayZ, you are an idiot. There aren't going to be designated loot spots that reset. There's no unlimited sprinting. There won't be any guarantees of anything that we know exists in DayZ, aside from that we need food and water. You can't log out whenever you feel like it, you can't fix bones with morphine, and every medical problem will not be solved with a bandage and a blood bag. Chances are you'll have a hard time finding a gun if you don't own one already and ammo for it would be even more of a challenge. Guns are not simple to use. Let alone sniper rifles. Your average (I don't want any ex-military badasses telling me how they can use any weapon they see to kill me from a thousand yards) person in an apocalypse I guarantee could hardly use a handgun. In DayZ, every player is already a combat trained veteran and has perfectly and permanently repaired, zeroed, and cleaned weapons. And if they are in a close-combat life or death situation? Forget about it. That gun might as well be a club to hit themselves in the head with because they'd probably miss if they tried to shoot themselves. Could you carry around an As50? Hell no. No person in their right mind would carry around a gun that weighs up to 60 pounds. And if they did they wouldn't get anywhere and they would almost never be able to use it effectively. Even an assault rifle like an AK is going to be heavy if you carry it with you at all times. If you are intelligent, you realize that you aren't going to live long on your own. You would also know that even if you get a partner or two, chances are they won't last long either and then you'll be back to square one with nobody else to help you. Do you have to get over loss of human life to survive an apocalypse? Yes. Does it have to turn you in a sadistic sociopath? No. Adding on to that is that fact that not everyone can do everything like you can in DayZ. Hey, who knows how to fix a car? Somebody have a toolbox and all purpose vehicle parts? Was that guy a doctor? Aww shit, if would have been nice if I had known he could fix my leg before I shot him. So you have to realize in a real apocalypse your chance of survival if your are alone is extremely low, and you would go insane without socialization with other people for such a long period of time. You'd lose your mind and that would be the point when you starting killing people on site because you are not longer rational and who knows what the hell else is wrong with you. Surviving with a group is the only real and logical way to do it in a real life apocalypse, so theoretically people would be much more willing to work as a group. Maybe not with strangers, but if you are alone a few potential friends will be a sight for sore eyes. However, people will lose their minds in an apocalypse, and hopefully those people do not find guns. I also think if you saw a survivor colony with a good amount of people in it your first instinct wouldn't be to grenade it. Tl;DR "If you base your survival strategy in a real apocalypse off of DayZ, you are an idiot."

How much himanity for hero skin? Also, is it true that hero skin makes you move faster?
dutch_miller replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Doubt it, any bandit you need to worry about wouldn't go through all that effort just to get the hero skin, which would then be taken away in one survivor kill anyways. I have 30k and it was legitimate, my signature should explain it. -

Here to help with your medical needs!
dutch_miller replied to spoonerthemedic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you want to join the Trusted Medics of the Wasteland (TMW), go here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3910-need-medical-assistance-we-can-help/ We get people asking for help very consistently so you can find patients to keep you busy. No worries if you want to be a solo medic, we are never against people trying to help in any way they can ;) -
I will never adopt the kill on site mentality
dutch_miller replied to Justine42's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That is a much more intelligent, well-written and logical post than your last two, which essentially consisted of "bro if you help people and dont explode everything that moves your an idiot" I applaud you on your improvement. Edit: Upon closer inspection you still referred to us as stupid. It's our play style, and it works. You just have to know how to play it correctly, and then you can survive just as well and with the same amount of enjoyment as any player like you gets from being a bandit; and such a playstyle requires intelligence as opposed to stupidity. -

dutch_miller replied to Justine42's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How long have you been playing? I find it almost impossible to believe you've never seen a bandit unless you play on a private server or you have only ever been sniped by the bandit you didn't see. -

Calling all bandits and terrorists- Raiders group must be formed!
dutch_miller replied to Metzgyr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, this thread is about the "war", and of course I support that. But what you may or may not know is that supporters of this idea are saying the same things to us (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/73671-the-coalition-changing-the-culture-of-dayz/page__st__120#entry776195). Like I said before, this DOESN'T make it right, and neither side should be doing it although, you may have noticed the person on this thread you are referring to isn't exactly part of our organization, as far as I can tell. I only wanted to point out that these sorts of comments are not new news to the Coalition or just the forums in general. Anyways, like Graz suggested, lets stop derailing the thread. -
That would probably work
-
Yes, it is legit. They are in the loot tables for heli crash sites, they will either be 7.62 ammo ( which you found, contains DMR, SVD, and M24 ammo) or a 5.56 (contains STANAG and STANAG SD rounds).

Bandit needing help to become a hero
dutch_miller replied to The_Albatros's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It doesn't reset because then there's no point in humanity. It's just an arbitrary (even more than it already is) single life-long stat. It doesn't reset because what you do in the game across all lives should be reflected. If it didn't save you could easily become a hero and then, while some survivors trust you because of that skin, kill them because you are really a bandit; all in one life. To lower that humanity you really just have to blood bag people. It's going to take a while but you should have thought of that before you killed so many people. Apparently bandit kills don't count towards humanity but I don't know, I killed a bandit a week or two ago and it definitely jumped me from 5k to around 9k, and recently I killed one that jumped me from 22k to 28k. It's glitched in so many ways I don't think it would surprise anyone if that was a glitch too. -

dutch_miller replied to Metzgyr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Problem is, the people who say stuff like that about the coalition/medics are people like him. Doesn't make it right, but it's not as one-sided as it seems. -
He could easily get bodyguards if he posted that he needs them in this forum.. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3910-need-medical-assistance-we-can-help/ You also don't have to pay them, they'll do it for free.

Should I look into joining a bandit clan?
dutch_miller replied to Statik (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Probably not the right forum to be asking... Anyways if you want to sure, although most bandits are douches anyways and clans are almost always worse. Could always join a survivor group :D -

The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ
dutch_miller replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can go to each group's forum/website link on the first page and it should be fairly obvious how to apply. You just need to find one that works for you. For instance, if you like to heal people, or be a bodyguard and protect medics, you can join the Trusted Medics of the Wasteland. Click on the forum link and on the first page there will be an explanation of how to join. -

Seems like fun, it's a little out of my way since I operate in the NW as a medic but It would be manageable. I'm guessing there's room for an experienced doctor/combat medic?

Has the hero skin changed your gameplay experience at all?
dutch_miller replied to porkus_maximus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Makes you run faster than a normal bandit, that's something atleast. Other than that I wear a ghillie suit so I haven't noticed. -
You are terribly stupid, I must say.
