The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ
dutch_miller replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You aren't required to attend meetings or events for some of these clans. What I like about the Trusted Medics is that you work on your own schedule. Whenever you feel like it, you can help people out. For some people as soon as they get on they are looking for a mission. Sometimes I do that but sometimes I feel like looting the airport first, or maybe I want to go repair a vehicle; there's nobody telling you when you have to be a medic. I can't say this for all the clans of the Coalition but I can assure you that if you are a survivor, there is or will be a clan that suits you. -
This is a hard topic for me; mostly because I am in the age range of dispute (15). I can obviously see why clans don't want people my age, both from experiences in-game and real life experiences with peers. Most of them are annoying, stupid, immature, and if they played this game they would be the ones backstabbing and camping cherno/elektro. I'm not surprised when a clan has an age limit, nor do I get angry at said clan for it. However I would include myself among the few who aren't like this. I have never murdered anyone in DayZ. I've been playing multiplayer games since I was under 10 years old; but I knew people didn't want to listen to me so I didn't use a mic. I didn't give them any reason to think I was younger than they were. I've played in many clans before across many games, and never once have I done anything to get myself kicked out of it. I led one when I was 11, and the people in it thought I was at least in high school. It's not a problem for me, really. If I see a clan has an age limit that is older than me, I don't apply. Simple as that. I find a different clan that doesn't care (for example: trusted medics) about how old you are but cares more about how mature and intelligent you are, as well as how well you can play the game.

Why not remove the glitchy dead guys until the standalone?

Dev Team's Response: -
Maybe not. But I know that the reason you play the way you play is because that's how you think you would react in a situation like DayZ. Isn't that bringing part of your subconscious out? The part that makes you go a little (or a lot) crazy and is the desire to survive?

I think we need to find someone that is actually trying to argue this point. Sula is pointing out that somebody (I have no idea who) does believe that. -
Rocket, Please don't. (Dayz on Console).

I love consoles but I understand pc to console games don't work out so well. I plan on playing DayZ on pc and I'll have fun playing State of Decay on 360. -
Coming from you? How humorous.
-
I'll go play Fallout if I want this. State of Decay will be an RPG (I'm going to like it) DayZ will be a realistic apocalypse simulator (I'm going to like it) Let's keep them that way.

You bastard. I was just about to post the same god damn clip. Instead i'll settle for this one.

a list of good dayz suggestions....
dutch_miller replied to apache25's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
like..survivors? The point being? Rationale? Ok..why not for songs and stories, I don't really care; if you want to do it sure. However I don't agree with the humanity effects. If you want me to explain why I will but it will be long. Nope, we can already aim and reload like military veterans under every circumstance; doesn't matter if you are sitting alone in a forest or in a town being chased by a hundred zombies, you still have essentially the same aim. Again this would require lengthy explanation of both sides that I could type out, but I am lazy and in short summary I would lean towards disagreeing. -

Would be realistic but it would feel like you NEVER need food. And you would not be able to sprint forever and do everything that you can in DayZ on a nutritional diet where you eat every 3 days. There's plenty of food in DayZ, and theres no reason to say Exactly 2 and only 2 will spawn. This is a tricky one. Repairing/refueling a car is not a problem in DayZ generally. The trouble is in finding it. maybe less damaged, sure. Maybe with some fuel, why not. However there is an argument that because the server resets vehicles so frequently that why go through the trouble of repairing it if you know it will disappear? In the end I say sure only because of the server reset argument, but if that was not an issue then I would say no. ..? Zombies spawn when you are nearby the town because if every zombie was spawned in at once it would lag like a mother. I'm not even going to address this further. Yes, but it will be too laggy. So no. Again, most open houses will hold this anyway, and again why does there have a to be a definite number? A major part of scavenging in this game is that you DON'T know what will be waiting for you inside. Use this argument with every " X% chance of spawning Y and Z in every W" Love it. Don't love lag. Maybe, although nightmares seem pointless to me. You could make convincing arguments either way for sleep, but that's a post for another time. -
It would make skin boosting very very easy. Say you are in a bandit clan and you want the hero skin so people think you will help them out. Your clan friend has -100k+ humanity, all you have to do is kill him a few times and boom you've got 200k+ humanity and now you can kill hundreds of average survivors who have low humanity without losing your skin. And even if you happen to kill a hero who is some sort of counter-sniper with 500k+ humanity (highly unlikely), kill your buddy a few more times and no problems.

dutch_miller replied to Sula's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't agree with whoever theoretically said that the microphone is meta-gaming. I understand that a microphone is in "our world" and therefore not in the DayZ world, but if you wanted to make that argument you could say the mouse isn't in the DayZ world so why should we be able to use it? I find it very hard to argue that talking to people changes the reality of DayZ. It's reality, and you may or may not know this but you can actually talk to people in real life. Now if you could talk to every DayZ player without use of a microphone or text chat then that might change my opinion. -
Then don't give them another reason to play. A ranking system would be absolutely terrible. The point of the game is, nobody's "character" is any better to start off with than anybody else's. It all comes down to the player, and that's how it should stay. I do support other skins based on playstyle; for example someone like me would want a medic skin.

The State of the Game and Why a Once "Addict" Has Moved On
dutch_miller replied to Icus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Duping and vehicles likely won't be fixed, along with artifacting. Matt Lightfoot recently (2 days ago?) talked about it on the TMW teamspeak (recording of it is probably somewhere on youtube if you look for it) Essentially he said duping is caused by lag between the hive and server and there isn't a way to completely fix it (same explanation for ammo counting glitches, which he said they could fix but the game would be laggy as hell), and as for artifacting he said they don't know if they will be able to fix it or not but Rocket is reluctant to take the dead soldiers causing it out because of the "atmosphere" they give to the game (horseshit imo). He was pretty vague about the answers and it was fairly obvious he tried to avoid them most of the time. -
