  1. I didn't kill anyone. I never have killed anyone to be honest. I've tried and failed quite often. This is banditry delivered by way of espionage, demolition, and the way of the ninja. I was playing on Panthera on a relatively low pop server. There's usually 20+ players but it was late at night so it was myself and three other players. I was out and about in the desert when I decided to check out the Asabanc army base. As I came over the hill and looked in 3rd person over the wall, I saw 2 helicopters, a Ural, and 2 UAZ's, and about 10 tents. The entrance to the base was closed off with a cluster f*ck of wire, tents, tank traps, everything. I waited but after ten minutes I didn't see anyone. I was still suspicious, so I made my way in the barracks outside of the wall and called out. I said, word for word, "If there is anyone in there, I will turn and leave. Scouts honor." I waited a minute for a response. I only made myself known in hopes that the people inside would do me a solid. If they can gather that much stuff, they probably have more guns and better guns than me, and more people to shoot those guns at every Milhouse that wanders into their camp. After no one responded, I ignored the voice in my head and made my way to the entrance. It was a low pop server, so who knows. I saw gap between along the wall between it and the wire on the left that I could probably get through. I didn't have a chance to try as I got winged by a what sounded like a NATO from the barracks in the far corner of the compound, I think. Anyways, I ducked out behind the wall, bandaged myself, and said, "Alright, I said I was gonna leave, and that's what I'm gonna do." So I booked it towards the lighthouse where I had a boat parked. That's when one of them took a shot at me with an AS50. It was obvious he didn't know how to use it cause he probably had a clean shot at my back and missed, then wasted 3 more bullets in a panic before I doubled back and hid behind the northern hill. He was standing on the hanger thing like a goon trying to find me. I was severely pissed at this point. His buddy carrying an M4 something or other joined him on the roof and they were looking around for me. I don't know why but it made even madder that they were a bunch of idiots. I crawled / crouch ran back to the north wall using the hills and terrain to hide myself. (It was night, remember). That's when I popped a smoke grenade over the wall and agro'd every zombie to that location. I also popped flares over the wall just to try and mess with their night vision in case they had it. I think they were British because the one typed, "right mate you can fuck right off now are clan members are comin" (Word for word). Now, I had an M4A1 CCO SD and an M4A1 Holo (with the 203 launcher) in my pack, and 2 grenades for that and 4 frag grenades. These came into good use. At this point they are shooting at EVERYTHING. And MISSING. The AS50 guy didn't switch weapons, I didn't get it. Anyways I wiggle my way inside through the aforementioned gap after pulling out my M4A1 Holo and get to work. The zombies pushed the two goon squad members into the warehouse, and I chuck a grenade at each entrance, knocking the two of them unconscious, I believe, since there were no death messages and they stopped shooting. Somehow, I could still hear zombies inside. They usually get instant killed, but I wasn't complaining, cause I could hear them clawing. I blew up both helicopters since I don't know how to fly one, and I blew up the Ural, and I pillaged every tent and vehicle and loot pile for EVERYTHING. A M16A4 ACOG , two M4A1's, an AKS-74 Kobra, a M249, a DMR, and an SVD Camo, 3 Ghillie suits, 2 Camo outfits, rangefinders, night vision, and medical supplies. and as much ammo as I could fit in my inventory, backpack, and UAZ. There was no more room. I wanted to leave these guys and their friends totally gimped. I took everything besides the tin cans, and loaded them in the closest UAZ. I even went into the warehouse and took the AS50 away from that one guy. I couldn't fit it anywhere so I put in my full backpack and destroyed it. I like the DMR better. There were three zombies clawing at his buddy who was screaming. I opened up voice chat and shouted, "DO YOU SEE?? DO YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MESS WITH THE WARRIOR?!" (Scrubs ftw) I was surprised they stayed unconscious that long I was looting for about 5 minutes, maybe their legs were broken, blood loss, I don't know. I loaded my UAZ of choice and took down the wire tools and packed the tents and made a gap big enough for me to drive through. One of them woke up and shot at me with a side arm, but it was too late. "UR FUCKED NOW CUNT WAIT FOR OUR CLAN I CALLED THEM BETTER START DIGGING THAT GRAVE". 15 minutes later they're "clan" members (they didn't have a clan tag?) joined in. There were 6 of them total at this point. I guess the guy who woke up saved himself and his buddy because there wasn't any death messages, but I didn't care. They we're talking about excommunicating the two of them before I logged out in the woods on the other side of the map. I usually suck too.
  2. This isn't really "epic", but I'll probably remember this particular moment for the rest of my life. I always play on night servers, just because it forces me to be more focused and alert through paranoia. I had been playing for about 2 hours, and I was really stressed out at this point from just being nervous about everything. I was descending down a hill towards a barn...when I was blinded. I had thought it was two players ambushing me with their flashlights from the hill to the south west, just beyond the barn. I've never hit the ground as fast I did right then. It felt like I was frozen in a flood light. Then I heard the sound of an engine. And then another. I took me a few seconds to register that and put two and two together, simply because I hadn't seen a working vehicle in-game before, let alone a convoy. The barn was maybe 20 yards in front of me, so, thinking I've been spotted by what was sure to be at least 4 bandits, I duck inside the barn and make for the top loft. I only had a crossbow at that point, but I would at least be able to take 1 with me. Surprisingly they moved on...but I avoided roads little bit more after that. I've just never experienced anything like that before...just, absolute alienation. The game is just that immersing I guess.
  3. Too noisy for my taste...I'm more paranoid after using it that more zombies will be coming over the hills it's so loud. I had plenty of ammo, sure...but the crossbow is just so more applicable when scavenging.
  4. I'm the only one of my friends who plays this game, and I just can't explain to them how special it is. Watch me retell this exact same story like this: "..and yeah man, I was just, like, dying of thirst. And I couldn't find any beverages! Like, what the fuck is that? So I'm searching, and I'm finding more and more of the same ammo...like, what the fuck is that? It's a zombie apocalypse simulator, you know? Like...there should be less ammo than food, right? 'The fuck is that?? And then I shot a goat and I couldn't skin it...I mean...the fuck? Then I found a barn, with THREE CROSSBOWS. Like, whatthefuckisthat?" That's why I love this game though...the most mundane things are just so entertaining.
  5. Thanks dood! If only my AP English teacher could see me now...Are you happy now, Mrs. P?! Am I applying myself now?!
  6. 3 days in game so far. I have been through 16 locations, mostly barns, deer stands, an odd small town here or there. Tonight I visited Rog Castle. First time there. I found an FN FAL with 3 magaizes in my first day. A Glock on my third, this night. I play mostly at night, so that excited me. I have been having issues though...the first two days I haven't found a single crumb of food or a drop of water. Fear of thirst and dehydration sank in when I logged in, only to remember that my thirst was deep in the red. The nearest supermarket was in Polana, but in my immediate area there were 2 barns, and 3 deer stands which were much closer. They have been kind to me in previous lives, so I opt for south. First deer stand held my newly acquired Glock with 2 magazines. Besides my flashlight, this is my only secondary, so I consider it a very valuable find. The first barn had two Jerry Cans, .45 ammo, 3 bandages (making 5 total) and a Winchester. Still no food or water. The second deer stand had 2 M1911 magazines, but no M1911. I also found 2 steel bolts (making 4 total). The second barn had 1 Jerry Can, 1 bandage, chemlights, and another steel bolt. Still no food or water. The third deer stand had...nothing. At this point my thirst meter was blinking. I also didn't have much breathing room in terms of blood, I was at just over 6000. I was traveling at night on the first day when I was fired on. I only saw him briefly, but the bandit had night vision, where as I had yet to find a weapon. I bandaged myself and somehow managed to crawl away and survive, miraculously. I found shelter in a barn, where I found the FN (With as much ammo it had it must have been dropped for something more quiet and favorable), as well as enough medical supplies to correct the effects of losing half of my blood. I waited it out there for the night. (I never disconnect because of danger.) I survived, but to what end? We'll see... My options we're limited at this point. I realized my only option was Rog. I had never been there before. I knew nothing about it other than it was important enough to be labeled on my Ultimate Bean Finder interactive map. (Serious question, is it frowned upon to flip back and forth to an open map in the browser?) I was sprinting at this point. I don't know if it makes the effect of thirst hasten...I imagine it would, but I was desperate enough to push that back in my mind. It started to rain, and it was so dark, and me being so paranoid and stressed I begin to hear things behind me, barking zeds in the wind, and the moonlight on the grass moving ever so differently against the wind that I hold my breath as I shine it...And then at the last clearing before the woods between me and the castle, I see this figure in the middle of the field, staring at me. It's too far away to discern if it's a player crouching, with the rain distorting my view I wasn't sure of anything. Except for one thing...I switched to my FN, steadied my mouse, took a breath, and fired. The person dropped. I had never murdered anyone until know, and every time I think about it, with every advantage I've ever had...I hesitate, and I die for it. Not anymore. I've been pushed somewhere I've never gone before. Desperation has finally made me understand this game, I...-wait. I shot a fucking goat. Which would be cool, if I had firewood. Or matches. Or a knife to even skin it with...anyways: I reach Rog...the place is not what I expected. Ruins at the corners, wild life in the middle. I begin to panic, but not because it's swarming...but because it's empty. No zeds to be heard. It made me think there weren't going to be any item drops. But boy, was I wrong. I counted my finds: 5 .45 ammo boxes, 6 bandages, 3 chemlights, all assorted colors (RAVE?!) 4 M911 magazines, 3 Steel Bolts, 2 Painkillers, 3 Morphine Injections, 2 Firewood, 2 Hatchets...and 1. Single. PEPSI. In the last building I searched. I had quenched my thirst. I had lost close to 1000 in blood. And I was still losing...I had just drank a Pepsi, and I was still losing blood. And then I saw that I was now starving. DAMN. I opened my map to find a location. Deer stand to the east. Barn to the west...my options weren't looking good. The barn had a higher chance of food, so I started BOOKING IT. I was there in 10 minutes. I didn't even stay low, or walk, I ran into the building and agro'd 3 zeds. I dealt with them when I reached the top of the stairs. I looked around at the ground floor first...nothing. I went to the eastern second floor...nothing. I glanced over the western second floor...nothing, unless I was on the other side of the straw pile. I checked the eastern side third loft...a single crossbow. No bolts. I turned to the western loft...to see the unmistakable profile of 2 MORE CROSSBOWS. I checked the western second loft immediately after, behind the straw stack, my last hope...nothing. Sullen, discouraged, defeated, draining ever closer to 4,000 blood, I stumbled up to the western loft, looking over the two crossbows. There were 3 more bolts next to them. You could argue that I didn't even need them, with how many I already had...if I was going to live, that is. I sat on the stairs...well, I was actually pacing around, raging in silent mode because I didn't want to wake the neighbors with shouting about why Russian farmers have a need for 3 identical crossbows at 2:30 in the morning. My character had been crouching at the time at the top of the stairs. I like to think he was sitting down though, staring up at me through the monitor, with this tired look... When I calmed down, I sat back down, put my headphones back on, turned my character around, and traded the crossbow for the FN. At least I found a quieter weapon, and I had plenty of ammo to boot. I then put my back against the corner and disconnected. I'll die tomorrow. DayZ life.
  7. You guys remember the first time you found one? "Yo I'm gonna be like Dale now! Night stalker, shadow, I own the night, I...ah I missed. These iron sights are awfu- WAIT I HIT HIM IN THE LEG. OH GOD HE'S CHASING ME. I ONLY HAD 1 BOLT!!" And then you pull out your Makarov and waste all your ammo on one zombie, but not before you bleed half out.
  8. My initial reaction is "God, no."...But the more I think about it. I realize it's the most fun weapon I've had in game. Sure, aiming down sites is worthless, and if the cross hair is turned off then you're really screwed. You almost always have no more than 2 bolts. If you're good, you wouldn't need more, but if you miss that thing is sure as gone, and there isn't even a guarantee you'll be able to retrieve it from the body...but there is nothing more satisfying than hearing the twang and watching your target crumble in silence. I haven't found a scoped rifle, but I have used the AKM and the scoped M4 and they're just not as fun. It's really only useful circumstantially , but if I had a big enough backpack I'd lug it around with another primary. It's one of the most frustrating aspects of the game, but I find it so satisfying. Maybe I just like the challenge. I suspect I know the answer, but what about you guys? Do you find this piece of shit as much fun as I do?

    What are the odds?

Good point. I have the same mentality. That's probably why I get shot in the face every day.
  10. Long read, I'm afraid. I've been playing for some time now (rather unsuccessfully) but I haven't bothered to look past the occasional relevant support thread. As soon as this happened to me, I created an account just to share this with you guys: I had just started a new character, and I spawned within a stones throw from the market in Cherno. It was a night server with less then 10 people playing, so I took my chances. I didn't find a backpack, but I found two water bottles, a Makarov (no ammo), a watch, and binoculars with plenty of food, obviously. Not a bad first 5 minutes at all. Now I may have been decked out for one bad*ss nature hike, but this was this apocalypse. Me, feeling bold, decided to take the short jog to Balota. Again, risky, but this early on, what do I have to lose? 15 minutes later, I'm within eyesight of the hangers when I get that weird graphical glitch people have been getting. I try huffing it out, but it was entirely game breaking as I couldn't even see past the artifacts 5 feet in front of my face, so I disconnected. I then joined an American server, which was at about 9:30 PM in New England. Yet when I joined it was middle of the day in-game. I only travel at night, so I again disconnected. However, I don't know how, but I had spawned in the first hanger. I don't know if I had wandered in there when I still blind, but I didn't even look around first. I NEVER travel in the day. If I had a Fight Club that would be my first and second rule. This is were sh*t gets weird. I join a foreign server, veteran, with 1 other player. I don't want to spawn in the middle of such a high traffic place willy-nilly, so I could at least get my bearings right. I spawn, and it is dark. I mean DARK. I couldn't see a thing. I started to turn around, I see I'm still in the same hanger, and the middle is lit up with red flares. Sh*t. My. F*cking. Pants. I don't see anyone. I'm standing as still as possible. After a minute of that I start looking around, and I see a rifle in my most immediate corner. I shuffle towards it, looking at my surroundings. I'm so scared I picked it up even though it didn't have ammo. It was an AKM. Not my favorite, but if there was ammo near by I would use it. Then I see him. The one and only other player in the server. He was in the opposite corner, and while looking back on it I don't think he saw me, but at the time he lit up a flare and chucked it in the middle. He lit up from absolute darkness, like he had been expecting my arrival or some terrifying thing. He had a pretty decent assault rifle too. It's at this point I realize he didn't see me. I wasn't going to disconnect either, I ain't a b*tch. So instead of presenting myself visually, I decide to type and explain my comedic situation to the gentleman. I had NOTHING to offer him, he looked pretty well equipped, and I had just merely spawned in his scary red lair. I figure I wouldn't startle the guy into shooting me if he heard me out. Again, he had nothing to gain from me, he might have been awesome and let me go...if I hadn't made the mistake of pointing directly at him with my Makarov while typing my greeting so that when he saw me he killed me like most smart people would. I would have done the same. He didn't know I was empty. I ain't even mad. It's not too surprising considering how popular the air strip is, yet since there was only one guy within a possible 220 square kilometer map I somehow managed to spawn in the m*therf*cker's basement. The guys name was "(something) S W A R" or "(something) S M A R", and if by some chance he see's this...no hard feeling's. If I had ammo, I would have killed you too. I was almost excited, because I've never gotten the drop on a player like that before. But I died a little inside when I remembered I was out of ammo. Anyways, thought that was random and interesting enough to share,
