If third person was removed from DayZ...
Roark92 replied to Imafighter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
as a server option it would have the same affect as we see now. people playing on third person servers because they have no choice, regardless of their preferred playing style. and yes they are forced to, since FP servers have low pop statistically, therefore server owners want nothing to do with it. same reason mcdonalds doesnt bother offering organic hamburgers. but it would be unfair to remove 3dp because lots of people are very adamant about keeping it and they like it. its just a shame that is the case. such a shame. -
^ beans to you for not raging at the OP's question
-
yeah all the leaning anims looked sweet especially the one on the back. and with the option to duck down and peek up under/over cover would allow first person players to recieve some of the "periscope" benefit of 3dp, without the magic! which might mitigate all the rage debates which would be good for forum resources lol. but im sure dayz standalone (or its just dayz right? :P) will have its own animations and i dont believe they will settle for anything less than great. so lets see what the dev team can do and then we will see what can be improved.

Some Suggestions and Changes for Immersion
Roark92 replied to Clumzy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
all good ideas i think. nothing too extreme, just pleasant additions. hopefully these subtle things like the animations you mentioned will be looked at and worked on in the months after the release. ive also thought that odour/smell should play a role in the game. especially with things like defecation and a stamina system. smelling should provide a cue of some sort that relays some information about what it is your char. is sensing. like if you walk near a fire pit you will smell smoke even if you cant see or hear it. could make for some suspenseful moments when you are deaf and blind but can smell enemies about :P still i understand the complexity of adding in a whole new sense to the game, but dare to dream right. the scope thing is a no brainer to me really, fully agree with you on that one. the junk items yes. i actually think that junk items should spawn a lot less (maybe not at all?) and just be created by the players as they use up their resources. could contribute to illness as well (populated places filled with trash) a way to tell if it is fresh or not would be useful as well, assuming its not just going to despawn of course. but yeah it becomes troll weaponry for sure in that regard. -

Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone
Roark92 replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
seems this is the phoenix of threads... from the ashes of the old comes the new, and the arguments loop around each other for eternity. i dont know why... but i feel really compelled to say this, even though i have before... people who complain about getting sick from fp or about the field of view being to narrow are idiots. turn headbob off = no sicky increase fov = more fov... its like debate of universal health care in the US... they have these reasons that just aren't true against adopting it, but if they just did it they would quickly see their arguments against it were false. but really i dont care if it has 2nd person view exclusively... i just wanna play the standalone already haha -
anyone who opposes the removal or modifying of third person view is a fool. A fool who simply does not share the vision that dean has for the game. I sincerely hope he maintains his integrity, and doesn't bow to the fools and make concessions on game mechanics and such. so that when the game is released, all these changes are implemented and you stubborn fools continue to play and after a few hours realize "this isnt so bad, it might actually be better" all of us anti-easymode folks can laugh with you status-quo lovers and we can discuss 3dp and wonder why we ever bothered disagreeing over something so obviously terrible and detrimental to the game. im looking forward to it.

focus is 100% on not simply stating in one sentence whether december release is still the target. lol

i wasnt raging at you morgan, i know that the skins are in the game and that is that. my rage was more directed at the sillyness of the skin system. really though i think that earning a reputation based on your actions is a good concept that should be built into the standalone. but skins (to me) are an extremely poor way to go about it. it effectively divides the playerbase into teams. team bandit vs team hero, with all the survivors in the middle who are going to eventually be forced on to a team. and i think the forcing of the skin upon the player goes against what this game is supposed to be about. thats all i meant.
-
seems people have gotten too used to a very bad idea. the whole "earning skins" concept is completely wrong and stupid... someone said "i want to know when i will reach the point where i will get my hero skin" so lets actually think about that.... im a nice guy and i kill zombies... but i wont be able to put on a certain set of clothes until i complete my 1000th zombie kill or 100th blood transfusion? so everyone who likes this humanity = certain skin formula is OK with the fact that clothes have magical enchantments on them that make them only wearable to those who have completed the prerequisite amount of killing/aiding.... MAGICAL ENCHANTMENTS!!! are you serious!? this is actually the stupidest fucking (forgive the expletive) concept i can think of, of all suggestions. except its actually in the game and i have no idea why... im fairly sure rocket is going to ditch it because he knows its stupid too, but still... talk about COMPLETELY eradicating the whole "this is your story" tagline of the game. REAL TAGLINE: "this is your story... until you become branded with a generic, identifiable skin that will dictate how you are treated and will let everyone know your intentions without ever meeting you. and if you do not want this skin well then you had better consider how you "really" want to play the game, but dont worry you can play it however you want, no worries bro." sweet, well in tune with the games mantra. visible humanity system = garbage. /endrage

shitty 5 minute drawing? fuck no that was sweet! lol i think there are a lot of other mechanics that should be addressed before this. because people are right, bunnyhopping is unacceptable and this mechanic would have to be implemented carefully and correctly.
-
i think rocket said this was being done already in SA. so rest easy chaps

alcohol and cigarettes just open up sooooooo many social possibilities, and would possibly even turn into the standard "currency" that the world lacks. i cant see the devs NOT adding them in. i mean unless its an issue with the rating... but yeah cigarettes would require a smoking animation (light visible in darkness) and the ability to offer another player a cigarette. alcohol would require drunken effects and animations and puking obviously, and ultimately loss of consciousness. seems kinda stupid to have these things, but realistically the possibilities are endless for how players would interact with them. DO IT!

Zombie Movements for dayz standalone , IMPORTANT!!
Roark92 replied to Donwey's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
i dont really need slow zombies, but in my opinion that is preferable... and not slow slow but like, brisk walking you know? not by any just walking but definitely not running. slow and numerous beats fast and few... however rocket is going with fast so no need to pretend like slow zombies is an option at this point. but right now slow zombies would be stupid... we can run forever, guns and ammo arent very scarce if you know where to look, and being slow you would one shot them all in the head. so IF zombies were slow and plentiful, then there must also be stamina and running impediments. (limping from injury being a main one, or encumberment?) that would allow you to escape, but not far. also ammo wouldnt be very abundant so you could shoot 30 zombies with your ak clip, but there would still be 20 more, meaning you'd still need to escape these zombies somehow. and the fleeing is a good source of terror, instead of now which is the uncertainty of how the zombies will glitch up behind you. which is scary mind you but in the wrong way. i actually just picture raids gone bad, holed up in a building with no way out and running out of ammo. that seems exhilarating to me, whereas with the way the game stands now this should never happen since a clip of an automatic weapon is enough to get you out of almost any zombie encounter. im actually just talking about them, i KNOW they wont be implemented as slow zombies and im fine with that. just having a discussion! -
Making the game both scarier and more difficult.
Roark92 replied to calle's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
im sure this will be done in SA in a post-release update. -
What weapons or vehicles would you like to see in the standalone?
Roark92 replied to -Gews-'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
holding a light and a sidearm at the same time. for gods sake please. lol. and lets hope to god that the flashlights actually radiate light, and arent just laser beams that only light up the exact spot they make contact with. (seriously using a flashlight inside in this game is painful!) -
Has anyone ever tried taking a town?
Roark92 replied to robotpenguin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah there should be tons of zombies but no respawn for a long time or they simply cannot respawn if a player is still near. then clearing a place out will be worth it! would make for some epic gameplay and clanwars. man im excited for the SA zombies. fuck yeah my hopes are hiiiigh -
i definitely read your comment in morpheus' voice, ovation. haha

(Original)Standalone close quarters struggle...
Roark92 replied to finkone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think it only seems ill suited because it currently does not exist in the game. once it was implemented it would suit the game fine. as for "all the melee weapons why am i fist fighting someone"... i think the general idea here is that yes, you had a knife out and intended to stab this guy, but he (realizing this probably) ran close to you and removed the effective space you need to utilize your weapon, now meaning you must free yourself from him in order to use it again. since it is a struggle or grapple for leverage to possibly use your weapon, and not a bout of fisticuffs. you dont stand still and try to box someone an ax. you need to close the gap and remove the potential for the weapon to be used against you, or you need to try to escape. in this sense it is very logical for a struggle/grapple system. it is a new game and there will be much coding to do, so i dont think extra coding should rule out a whole feature, because everything in this game will require new coding, therefore that seems like flawed logic. lastly, i have no real comment on his attitude, i suppose he is touchy and aggressive but on the other hand few people here are being constructive or actually addressing his idea as he presented it. -
(Original)Standalone close quarters struggle...
Roark92 replied to finkone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
yeah good concept i think. button mashing wouldnt work out for reasons people have already stated. QTE's dont bother me so much so long as they dont consume the players perspective and remove them from the actual world whilst it goes on. but yeah i think its a solid idea. also (and im very surprised no one has mentioned this yet) the mechanic can also be used along with zombies. lets all admit it here, a zombie standing beside you performing the "hit" animation over and over and over again for a full minute is a little immersion breaking, yeah? -
yeah exactly. but it cant be rated traditionally anyways since it isnt an actual game yet. and i think that when you push the release back and say its because you are bug squashing or whatever, you inadvertently give people the impression that the game will now be bug free and polished (or even just more stable than is possible) when it does get released. it kind of skews the original expectations people may have had for the release. in my opinion that is. thats why i think its unwise to delay, not because im over-eager or anything. regardless of anything we all say, it will release when its released and that is that.

semi-necro didnt want to make new thread, but the more i think about it... the more furious i become at the fact that my baby faced survivor just wont pop out some stubble! this stupid and seemingly unimportant stuff needs to be added in! its what forms the culture and society ingame. maybe big beards are respected and not KOS or are feared? who knows. players end up deciding with time, which is how it should be. beards booze and cigarettes all the way.
-
yeah we all already have our own humanity and morals! let it flow into the game organically. what kind of fool dresses himself to be identified as a bandit and untrustworthy? its ludicrous! irl you have to make those decisions based on a person's character, their actions and words. not their clothes (although yes the clothes people do wear, by choice or not, affect our opinions, but it is irrelevant in this scenario of the game) humanity indicator is fine for personal reference, but you should already know what kind of person you are and if you've been massacring fresh spawns or helping them. EDIT: also since there will be lots of clothes available... expect certain groups to adopt certain "uniforms" because its likely that will happen. then you can know that those guys up ahead are members of the notorious local bandit clan. and those bandits can feel extra badass wearing their gang colours. point is they can chose to identify themselves.
