Do you realize how ridiculous your comparisons (predator missile strike, nuclear bombs, carpet bombing... ) sound? UAVs are no superweapons, they are/ will be soon part of everyday life. Plus, there are already more than enough civilian UAVs today.

The point is: Drones/ UAVs are becoming one of the most important planes in any modern day army. If you have armed helicopters, why not unarmed UAVs? And I don´t say you should spawn with them right on the beach. They must be found/ repaired/ fueled/ etc. just like any other vehicle in dayz. Of course their number should be limited to a few. For a group these little things could be really useful.

Where´s the problem? It´s great if you want to loot a town and want to know what´s going on befor entering. The question is not whether I saw it in a Zombie Apocalypse fiction, the question is: Does it fit the gameplay? I think so...

Heres a short Editor mission I made in <2 minutes. It demonstrates, my point on Igla/ Stinger. Try it out! You can play as the pilot, gunner or anti-a soldier by pressing "T". Just import it to your Editor missions. http://www.file-upload.net/download-4459637/DayZ_Heli_down.Desert_E.pbo.html

Sorry guys here are some fun facts: A single Igla rocket eats up 6 inventory slots The blast radius of an Igla rocket is as big as a hand grenade Try to shoot a moving target which is more than 200 away...Good Luck! As a heli pilot you can easily aviod being shot down by flying at low altitude. If you hit a heli with a stinger, it does not blow up. It may lose fuel or one of the rotors may be damaged. In most cases the crew is not killed and can manage to land the heli If you don´t trust in a 10y+ OFP/ Arma veteran, then use the editor and try it out for yourself.
