    How do you fire guns?

    I had an M1014 or something with 16 rounds (two lots of 8 rounds) and I had to defend myself from a single zombie (health 11372). Every time I fired with the left mouse button, I fired a flare. I tried switching actions with the scroll wheel, but there were no actions. Then I got knocked out after about three punches and bled to death. So, my question is, this being my first gun that I would have had a chance to shoot (I had one a little earlier, but I got to the top of the fire station on a ladder and for some reason the game decided it was time to make a running leap off the tower which killed me which was also a bit inconvenient after spending 5 hours trying to meet up), how do you shoot in this game? I assume I don't need to reload it more than once.
