Are these PC specs adequate to run DayZ smoothly?
NedEleven replied to removeyourcrown's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You have enough ram and your graphics card is fine. However, the Arma engine is very cpu-intensive, so it would be wise to upgrade to a quad core cpu at the very least. -
20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
NedEleven replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes It would definitely be an interesting mechanic to try out. As rocket said' date=' you would need to be looking [b']directly at the player in order to hear the heartbeat. -
I was playing on the US103 server earlier today when I came across a UAZ. I checked it out and someone had loaded it with a ton of magazines, smoke grenades and frag grenades. [screenshot #1] [screenshot #2] [screenshot #3] I grabbed as many AK and SVD mags as I could, but as I began to stuff all the grenades in my bag, I realized that I've never seen a yellow smoke grenade or the RGO frag grenades listed anywhere on the DayZ loot cheat sheet. I immediately dropped the yellow smoke and the frags, but then I picked a couple of frags back up and used them to destroy the UAZ. Are the RGO frag grenades and yellow smoke grenades hacked into the game? If so, does that mean I'm going to be banned?

"On a fast racing bicycle, a reasonably fit rider can ride at 50 km/h (30 mph) on flat ground for short periods." I think it should be 45 km/h on flat, paved roads and 30 km/h while off-road. If anything, the speed of cars, trucks, vans, etc while on dirt-roads/offroad should be increased. Dropping from 100 km/h to 25 km/h just because I drove onto a dirt road is ridiculous.

[SOLVED] the same profile on a different computer?
NedEleven posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I recently switched to a new PC and I moved most of my Arma files from my old HDD to my new HDD, including the profile that I use for DayZ. However, I cannot seem to use it anymore in multiplayer. If I try to join a server in DayZ or just a regular Arma 2 OA server, I will be disconnected automatically just before I reach the "Waiting for character to create" screen. Even if I create a new profile, I still get the same problem. If anyone has successfully moved their Arma 2 profile to a different PC, could you tell me exactly which files are required? EDIT: I was experiencing the exact same issue shown in the following video, and updating Battleye seems to have fixed it. -
Any tips on finding repairable vehicles?
NedEleven replied to eel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for all the tips, guys! My contribution: Red Sedan located just south of Prigor [screenshot #1] [screenshot #2] Vehicle parts can be found at the train station in Prigor as well. Hilux located in Prigor in a gated/fenced-off area. Vehicle parts can be found in a shack a few metres away from the Hilux. -
Date/Time: It happened quite a few hours ago, shortly after the release of the 1.5.8 patch. What happened: Accidentally shot my friend and he fell unconscious. The hourglass on my friend's screen was completely frozen; it was not trickling down like it normally should. We waited about 10 or so minutes and he didn't re-gain consciousness. Where you were: The red dot on this map, which is very close to a couple of deer huts: http://i49.tinypic.com/m9y61d.jpg What you were doing: Heading northwest towards another deer hut Current installed version: 1.5.7 Server(s) you were on: TX2 Timeline of events before/after error: - We had just looted the deer hut close to that red dot on the map I posted earlier. We were experiencing some lag/desync issues. - We began heading northwest to another deer hut when I looked behind me to check on my friend (who was wearing a bandit skin). I didn't see my friend, but I did see another survivour, who was holding a pistol and aiming directly at me while crouched. - I quickly fired 4 shots from my AK-74; I watched the blood spurt out of the survivour, but he didn't react. He was still crouching and aiming at me with his pistol. I stared at him for another 10 seconds or so until suddenly he warped about 10 metres toward me and fell to the ground unconscious. - It turns out that my friend had just turned from a bandit skin into a survivour skin and I didn't realize it until after shooting him. I quickly bandaged him up and waited for him to re-gain consciousness. However, the hourglass was not trickling down; it was frozen, so my friend became trapped in a coma. - Suddenly, we both lost connection to the server, but we quickly re-joined. My friend still had a frozen hourglass, but we decided to wait. After dragging him around for a bit, I dropped him on the ground and waited while prone underneath a tree. About 10 or so minutes passed and he still didn't re-gain consciousness. - We decided that I should just finish him off, grab his gear and wait for him to respawn. I finished him off with a pistol, but the server suddenly restarted for the latest patch before I could pick-up his gear. We both stopped playing after that.

I think there's a great animation for this, and it already exists in-game. If you don't know what I'm talking about, equip your pistol and then open your gear with the G key (or watch someone else do it). Now, watch how the character brings the pistol up to his ear and points it toward the sky. Not exactly a holster animation, but I think it would work quite well.

The speed is fine. The real problems with the zed behaviour is the lagging/warping through walls and the massive kill-delay. The "zig-zag" nature of their path-finding is a bit extreme sometimes, but it definitely keeps the game challenging.
-
Run backwards. Why? Zeds are forced to stop moving in order to attack you, and this can easily be exploited to your advantage. When the zeds stop moving, keep running backwards a few more metres. Quickly stop and hip-fire a shot (preferably from a Lee Enfield, Winchester or a higher tier weapon) at the wall of zeds. Even if you're completely exhausted from running, you'll almost certainly get a kill. Repeat this process for each zombie and you'll clear out entire towns by yourself without taking a single hit.
-
Being indoors makes you virtually untouchable from zombies' date=' and it's ridiculous. A wide-open barn shouldn't be a magical safe-haven from the horde of zeds chasing you. Going indoors forces the zombies into choke-points; that's already a [b']HUGE advantage. Forcing zeds to move at walking speed when indoors? That's about as close to easy-mode as it gets.

I actually like the speed of the zombies; seeing multiple zombies in the corner of your eye darting towards you after a shot goes off is incredibly terrifying, just the way it should be. I can see how people would dislike the zig-zagging which can be extreme at times (in some cases I've seen them perform almost 180 degree turns without any reduction in speed), but I find that it adds an extra layer of challenge to the game. Landing a headshot on a zig-zagging zombie is extremely satisfying. Here's a couple of changes to zombie behaviour I'd like to see in the future (if possible): - Ability to attack while moving. - Ability to run while indoors.
