  1. Hey, Kata. I just wanted to say thanks for hosting your server. It is one of the few hardcore servers that has 40 slots, and also has a good population (very important). Most importantly, it's not some sort of loot cycling server. Also, I am very close to Los Angeles, so I have a great ping. I prefer #2 or #3 much more than #1. I believe in a SHTF scenario like DayZ that gangs/groups would naturally form, and dominate the land. Therefore, I would love if most players belonged to some sort of group, and tried to control certain parts of the map through violence or agreements with other groups. I was a big supporter of public hives for the mod (I ran a public hardcore server). But, unless Rocket implements a very tough system to thwart ghosters, combat loggers, and server hopping loot spawners, I will most likely switch to a private hive server for SA ASAP. Private hives also solve the issue of players making their camps on low population servers (to keep them safe), while they play on high population servers. I would be very surprised if that ever gets fixed. I like the idea of private hives locking players to the server. There is a better chance of forming a community, and achieving my desire of warring groups. One issue that the mod had that SA also has is too few players spread over too many servers. That should improve some once loot starts respawning (less hopping), but it will still be an issue (especially once servers are allowed 150 players). I want to play with the most amount of players (more danger and interaction). If you want to have a large population, you will have to find a way to stand out. This thread is a good step in the right direction. All of us players on the server need to spread the word about this server to keep it alive and growing. It would be great if we could get some groups to make this their home server ASAP.
  2. I am a lousy sniper and prefer automatic weapons (better for my crappy accuracy). But, sniper rifles are only game breaking against those who choose to play with lousy tactics. I am sure most of us could write a long list of things those players are doing wrong. But, I'll just sum up the solution with this: play like there is someone at long range with a sniper rifle trying to kill you--act accordingly.
  3. I agree with the OP with regards to what are you getting out of it as a server hoster (unless you just want to use restarts every 5 minutes to farm loot). There is nothing to gain. Another reason not to host a server right now is the ridiculous prices due to allowing only big GSPs. What's going to happen to the price when the player slot limit increases to 150? Will the high price of server hosting and high required server specs influence the max player count that is implemented? I was paying $59.00 to a data center to colo my server for the mod that was way more powerful than what these GSPs can offer for the same money. I am totally fine with servers being ruled under BIS's iron fist. But, why in the world would I pay for that at a ridiculous price? BIS can use some of their own millions to pay for all of the servers if they want absolute control.
  4. I doubt loot will be rare enough for trading to be needed. I just had my character reset. Even without loot respawning and playing on a mostly filled server (30-40 players / no server hopping), I was back to fully geared (except for the long range scope) in 5 hours or so. I just need to hit the NWAF to find the scope. Since most players are concentrated in just a few spots, I just went where they ain't, and found many untouched towns. In order to make players want to trade, all loot must be much more rare.

    Oculus Rift Support?

I think I read something recently that the second version requires 85 FPS, while having issues at 60. Either way, I think I'll just wait until one of the 34" 21:9 displays gets G/Free sync since I doubt DayZ will be able to maintain even 60 FPS without turning all of the settings way down.
  6. If I see anyone in the north, I will try to kill them if it can be done with little risk to my life. Otherwise, I won't engage (unless they get the jump on me, of course). I figure any player that makes it to the north is probably decently geared, and has a pretty good knowledge of the game. This makes them a serious threat, and I expect them to treat me in the same manner. I pretty much think of the north as where the big boys hang out, and where gunshots are the only conversation. I am looking forward to private hives where I can get with a group and we can declare the NWAF ours (by killing everyone else who comes near). This can't be done on public hives because of the pussy ghosters.

    Zombie Cleanup Method

Thought you were talking about the fsm file.
  8. I am not following you on server hopping looters and ghosters being features, and how elimination of said hoppers is not a solution.
  9. Yeah. I wouldn't play on a private hive shared between multiple servers. Wrecks one of the biggest benefits of a private hive.
  10. I hope you are right, bad_mojo. But, I doubt the SA will go far enough to eliminate the benefits of a private hive when it comes to server hopping. Assuming you can find a good private hive server (definitely not an easy task), server hopping (looting & ghosting) are 100% eliminated. Unless Rocket is willing to make players wait 15 minutes (or more) between logging in on different servers (every single time--not some kind of scaled system), public hive servers will never achieve anywhere close to that kind of server hopping prevention. I seriously doubt that will ever happen (too many will raise hell about even 3 minutes). Not having that prevention is a huge price to pay just so you can play on different servers, and take the gear on your body with you. I will not pay that price even if that means I have to turn my server back on.
  11. I ran a public hive server for the mod, but I agree with you 100%, Mullucka. I would rather play on a public hive server, but the benefits of a public hive are not needed if you find a good private hive server. All I want is vanilla hardcore settings with ninja-like admins who operate as much as possible in the background ("active admins" means annoying to me for the most part). I have never had to wait very long to get into a full server, so that is not a concern of mine.

    Spawn Changes Too Soon!

Why is anyone dying so much that the spawn points even matter?

    Using RAMdisk to increase FPS

I have DayZ on a RAMdisk, but still get the occasional mega stutter that lasts like a second (can happen anywhere).
  14. US 3279 Las Vegas HARDCORE!!!! This server is dedicated to the few, the proud, the HARDCORE!!! I am back with an awesome new server!!!. This time there is nothing between us players and a HARDCORE!!!! DayZ experience. Gone is the multi-instanced and/or rented dedicated box from a host that is nothing but an unnecessary and frustrating layer (sometimes two!) that diminishes our DayZ experience. There is only me and the data center where this awesome server is colocated. I bought and assembled the components. I installed all of the software. I control everything. This server is 100% dedicated to US 3279 (no other instances of anything!). This server is simply HARDCORE!!!! HARDCORE!!!! Specs: --Intel i5 3750k @ 4.2GHz (HARCORE!!!! without OC? I mean, come on, Shelly!) --ASRock Z77 Extreme4 (server mobos do not allow OCing) --32 GB DDR3 1600 (100% of ArmA 2/OA & DayZ is on a RAMdisk!!!!) --Crucial M4 128GB SSD (not really necessary since everything is on a RAMdisk, but we're talking HARDCORE!!!! here) --Intel PRO/1000 CT (forget that on-board crap!) --1Gbps port (let's fill it up with a 100 player server!!!) --Windows 2008 R2 (Server 2012 is installed on another partition, but 2008 R2 rocks just fine for now!) --Primo Ramdisk Server Edition (this is where the RAMdisk magic happens) --FancyCache (RAMdisk for anything not DayZ--i.e. Windows stuff) DayZ - US 3279 Las Vegas (x.x.x.x / beta xxxxx) [HARDCORE 3DP:OFF CH:OFF NP:OFF][GMT+13] hosted by joikd maxping=300 cfgdayz.ArmA2OAProfile: class Expert { class Flags { Armor=0; FriendlyTag=0; EnemyTag=0; HUD=0; HUDPerm=0; HUDWp=0; HUDWpPerm=0; WeaponCursor=0; AutoAim=0; AutoGuideAT=0; 3rdPersonView=0; ClockIndicator=0; Map=0; Tracers=0; AutoSpot=0; UltraAI=0; DeathMessages=0; NetStats=1; VonID=0; }; skillFriendly=0.94999999; skillEnemy=0.94999999; precisionFriendly=0.94999999; precisionEnemy=0.94999999; }; }; shadingQuality=7; shadowQuality=3; singleVoice=0; maxSamplesPlayed=32; activeKeys[]={}; sceneComplexity=300000; viewDistance=1600; terrainGrid=25; volumeCD=6.5; volumeFX=6.5; volumeSpeech=6.5; volumeVoN=6.5; vonRecThreshold=0.029999999; arma2.cfg: MinBandwidth=384000000; MaxBandwidth=1073741824; MaxMsgSend=92; MaxSizeGuaranteed=128; MaxSizeNonguaranteed=64; MinErrorToSendNear=0.029999997; MinErrorToSend=0.0019999994; MaxCustomFileSize=0; Windowed=0; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=1; Resolution_Bpp=32; class sockets { maxPacketSize=1400; }; serverLongitude=-115; serverLatitude=36; serverLongitudeAuto=-115; serverLatitudeAuto=36; server start.bat: start /wait /REALTIME Expansion\beta\arma2oaserver.exe -mod=EXPANSION\beta;EXPANSION\beta\Expansion;EXPANSION;ca;@dayz;@hive -ip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xx -port=xxxx -profiles=xxxxx -config=xxxx\serverxxx.cfg -cfg=xxxxx\arma2.cfg -name=xxxx -world=Chernarus -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=1 -maxmem=2047 -noCB -noSound Feel free to make any suggestions regarding the settings (other than going against HARDCORE!!!!). If you have any issues, comments, questions, etc., post in this thread and/or PM me. I hope you will enjoy this server as much as me!!! See you in the north!!!
  15. With the recent news that only GSP rented servers will be allowed for SA upon alpha release, I have shut down my server (it is colo'd). I used a GSP rented server for DayZ before I built this one, but will not being going back. I refuse to pay good money for such a lower quality product/service. Thanks to all of you hardcore players out there! I know a bunch of you were waiting for SA to release before jumping back on this server. For all of our sakes, I hope someone out there is willing to stomach the hosting of a hardcore server with a GSP. Take care!
  16. My server is colo'd, so mine (and any other colo'd servers) should be up quick as long as they give us access to the server files right when we buy SA.

    server hardware

Here's my thoughts from a recent reddit post on a similar topic: In my case, I only wanted a server just for DayZ--nothing else. So, since DayZ doesn't use more than two cores, but really benefits from a high CPU clock speed, I chose non-server components. This allowed my to have a higher performing server (by overclocking) and still be much cheaper than using server-grade stuff. My server: CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K (overclocked to 4.2GHz using a specific 2U cooler & 10,000 RPM Delta fan) MOBO: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 RAM: 32GB DDR3 1600 (9-9-9-27) (1.5V) (I only have this much RAM, so DayZ can be on a RAMdrive) Crucial M4 SSD (64GB) NIC: Intel EXPI9301CTBLK PRO/1000 CT One thing I should have done was add a large/cheap storage drive, so I could put multiple windows install images on it (server 2008 r2 & server 2012). I would only have used this drive if I had needed to re-install on the SSD, or if the SSD went bad (just ship another) by using the data center's kvm gear. So, right now, if I have to re-install, I can use their KVM gear, but I would have to stream it from home where my upload bandwidth is really low (it would take many hours). If I was building a server today, the only differences would be that I would use the Haswell 4670k CPU, and add that storage drive I mentioned above. In your case, since it sounds like you want to have your server handle multiple things simultaneously, you might be better off using a Xeon CPU with their many cores, and larger cache. You would lose a lot of CPU clock speed, but it would probably be okay (I'm not sure which Xeons would work speed-wise, though). The downside of this option is that it would be crazy expensive for a decent Xeon (clock speed-wise). For me, from a $$$/performance standpoint, I would either build and colo a non-Xeon server, or rent a dedicated Xeon server. I would not build and colo a Xeon server, or rent a non-Xeon server. Of course, if you have lots of $$$, then just build and colo a high-end Xeon server.

    DayZ 1.8 .Dev Bug List

I think it was in server_cleanup.fsm. The easiest way that I know of is to use Notepad++, and use the "Search" and "Find in Files" to have it search the entire dayz_server folder that you extracted for "_date1". It will give you all the results for all of the files at once.

    DayZ Mod 1.8 Update

I'm not sure where your anger is coming from, but, whatever, it's all good. Folks can play wherever they like, with cheese or without (who cares?). My original post regarding the no-spawn-selection on my server was simply to clarify that it wasn't due to a bug. I think you might not be seeing my goal with my server. As DayZ is the anti-game, my server is the anti-DayZ-server for the very rare (but, highly regarded by me) hardcore-type players. Logically, it follows that they are few in number.

    DayZ Mod 1.8 Update

Maybe so. But, I'm not going to actively encourage something I think is cheesy (like clearing the area around crash site loot). The price they will pay is a little inconvenience. Actually, I like having the option. It acts as another filter. As far as dead bodies on the coast--doesn't matter to me since I don't hang around on the coast.

    DayZ Mod 1.8 Update

Misho, I'm glad you like the server (thanks for the beans!)! And, thanks for the offers! While I do not accept donations (again, I appreciate the offer), I may seek out admin help, if necessary, when I switch the server over to SA (colo'd box, so I will be able to do that immediately upon release--no waiting for a hosting service). Back to 1.8: I have seen that vehicle doubling bug since 1.7x. I am sorry to hear that it is still around. Since my server is purely vanilla with a public hive and zero mods, I think it is safe to say that it is nothing on my end. Unfortunately, being public, all I can do is re-install or restart the server (both have been done).
  22. Las Vegas HARDCORE!!!! Server Goal: I would love to have many groups viciously fighting both zombies and each other for resources, territory, and survival! Feel free to post here if you are a group looking for players, or a player looking for a group. Side Chat: Since groups with non-DayZ voice have a significant advantage over players without it, I have setup a Mumble server to serve as side chat in the hopes that it will encourage players to group up. If you are a non-group player, you must have at least five hours of playing time (use Gametracker link in my sig) on this server before sending me a PM (including your Mumble name & in-game-name) requesting the password. Private Group Channels: If you would like a private channel for your group (at least two players), send me a PM with everyone's Mumble name & in-game-name, channel title, and desired password. At least half of your group must have at least five hours of game time on this server. Mumble rules: Everyone in side chat must remain respectful at all times (private group channels--you are on your own). You are only allowed to be in a Mumble channel if you are simultaneously playing on this server. If you change your Mumble name or in-game-name, you must PM me before you enter the Mumble server. Get the latest Mumble beta here. Use 199.241.136.10 (default port) in Mumble to connect to: Las Vegas HARDCORE - DayZ Side Chat Server specs: --Dedicated server running just one instance (all for just Las Vegas HARDCORE!!!!) --Intel i5 3750k @ 4.2GHz --ASRock Z77 Extreme4 (server mobos do not allow OCing) --32 GB DDR3 1600 (100% of ArmA 2/OA & DayZ is on a RAMdisk!!!!) --Crucial M4 128GB SSD --Intel PRO/1000 CT --1Gbps port --Windows 2008 R2 --Primo Ramdisk Server Edition (this is where the RAMdisk magic happens) --FancyCache (RAMdisk for anything not DayZ--i.e. Windows stuff) --database back-up every 5 minutes DayZ - Las Vegas HARDCORE!!!! [Public] [Private Hive] (x.x.x / x.x.x) [Chernarus] [3DP:off] [CH:off] [GMT+11] - joikd maxping = 200 CURRENT GAME SETTINGS (all hardcore): 3dp:off CH:off Tags:off Private Hive: Pwnoz0r's; Chernarus; 40+ vehicles Quick note about the admin (me): I am just a player who wanted to play on a server with hardcore settings. For me DayZ is about the struggle and challenge, which I want to preserve as much as possible. Please feel confident in my promise to never use any admin tools or information to give myself, the group I run with, or anybody else an advantage. When I come across something during my admin duties that is private (ex. vehicle/tent/player locations), I keep that info. to myself, and do not act upon it in any way. In my group I am a simple grunt that likes to take orders, so this doesn't conflict with my admin "knowledge" at all since I make few decisions. Feel free to make any suggestions regarding the settings (other than going against HARDCORE!!!!). If you have any issues, comments, questions, etc., post in this thread and/or PM me. I hope you will enjoy this server!!!

    DayZ Mod 1.8 Update

Just to clarify--it was a conscious decision to not enable the spawn select function on US 3279. While I understand that some players would like it for various reasons, I felt that it did not belong on a "hardcore" server.

    Decent Server Provider

If you plan on using your server for at least a couple of years, I highly recommend that you just build your own server and colo it. That's what I did after my less than satisfactory experience with one of the server providers that you mentioned. Assuming you find a reasonably priced data center, you would end up having a higher performing server for the same cost (maybe even much less) after a period of time. I pay $59 USD per month for: --2U rack space --2A power w/remote reboot --5TB bandwidth --1Gbps throughput Since I built it myself, I gave it a high performing CPU cooler/fan (10,000 RPM), so I could overclock (much tougher to do in a 2U case). It's a 3570k at 4.2GHz right now, but I could go a little higher if necessary. That overclock alone makes it an awesome value. Try finding a rented dedicated server with a CPU clocked around that--it will be crazy expensive (or not even available). Plus, if you colo it's just you and the data center--no 3rd party in between to complicate things (which speeds up issue resolution, or prevents issues entirely). In one year I have had only one issue, which was due to a partial data center power loss. It was resolved in less than a day. If you decide to colo, feel free to ask me any anything. There are a few things I would have done differently with my server build now that I have had it for a year.

    Script Restriction 25

My server has done this for weeks now (didn't matter when a restart had been done), but only for certain players. I personally never get this unless I quit playing, go to the lobby, then try to play again. In this case the only way I found to get rid of it was to quit to desktop, then start the game again. I have a theory that players coming from other servers during the same play session sometimes experience this, too. I know I could change the Battleye filter setting, but lowering server security doesn't seem like a good solution to me.
