While the install function in the Updates section of the CP makes updating super simple, maybe new patches can initially be accessed by a link to a .rar file after logging in at HFB. If HFB could quickly throw those files up first and give us a link, then work on updating the CP/Updates/Install function afterwards, those of us willing to download, then manually upload the updated files would be able to get our servers updated and online on our own very quickly. As it stands we are going on 2.5 hours since the DayZ update was released with no way to update. -

As someone who had given up on all video games (even though I have access to most for free if I desired), I am willing to shell out the money for a server because DayZ has totally hooked me, and I simply want a server with my desired settings that won't disappear and take my tent with it. I don't need any slots or anything. Just keep DayZ awesome, and I'll keep paying for a server. -
I made this suggestion here in conjunction with changing zombie spawns to the outside edges of the map, and migrating across the map (let's us clear towns and keep them clear).

I thought that in order to hear the heartbeat, you had to be both close & looking directly at the person. Maybe the LOS part hasn't been added yet?

--Big step in the right direction (big picture-wise) --Once the known issues (including zombies not following into buildings) are fixed, zombies will be much closer to the threat that they should be --at the same time I would very much prefer a higher initial spawned zombie count with less frequent respawns (make it tough, but let us do some blasting, then celebrate for at least a moment (20 minutes--at least enough time for a group to clear a town, then have 5 minutes or so of peace). --love the reduced starting gear (got me crawling on my belly very quickly)

I just updated LA 5 to 93825 & 1.7.1--everything is working just fine. Love the ability to update now! Thanks! Just read that I need the updated dayz_server.pbo file. Where can I get that? -

How so? His test was to see if altering starting gear could enhance the DayZ experience. And, he seems to think it does (more or less). You said that since he has the choice of not using certain starting gear, the starting gear should not be changed for everyone. By your argument, as long as players have choice as to whether or not they use certain starting gear, the starting gear should not be changed for everyone. You want your Makarov. I want a Huey. If a Huey was part of the starting gear, everyone could choose if they wanted to use it or not--just like the Makarov. Using your logic, what is the difference? -

Really? Distrust is actually the easiest thing to implement, or do you trust strangers by default? The thing with TWD is I really don't know why survivors are that belligerent. Well, writers like drama as flies like shit. In real world, big disasters make people help each other most of the time. I guess it has to do with our conscience, we have to live with whatever we have done. So that's why I don't call game actions a murder, any virtual world action is insignificant except when money or unusual factors get involved. Basically, something that links real and virtual worlds. Real-world example of SHTF (minus zombies): In the Yugoslav wars in the 1990's, a city was surrounded and cut-off for a year. The only aid came from US air drops, which turned into the Hunger Games. People trusted nobody except for family and very close friends. "Good" people went "bad." Movement by day was suicide. Killing was constant. Gangs were a huge threat. People did whatever was necessary to survive. Things were DayZ-like even without the zombies. Google "Selco" "Balkan" to read the experiences of a man who lived in that city. There is so much information on his site that directly applies to DayZ. It should definitely be a reference for anyone making suggestions, or even for Rocket himself.

Are we supposed to be able to manipulate files using the File Manager? Or, is it more of a read-only/FYI kind of thing? -

At least with this, you can gain your location back on a different server. With tents, you simply have no access while on another server. Players have adapted to server-tied tents., so I think we can handle this. -
Wait, so the lone guy needs meds, so he doesn't experience negative effects. But, a group of two just cruises along merrily in a world where freakin' bandits and zombies are constantly trying to kill them as well? I've said it before that I don't like being told how I feel. But, if this is going to be implemented, please have it affect everyone. I'm okay with a loner being affected more severely, but everyone should be affected. The only difference would be degree of effect.

Change the soda to a canteen (for the reason that Strategos pointed out), and I'm all for this. I prefer starting with nothing, but this is a huge step in that direction.

Raise the level of the zombie threat until it reaches the point where it is very difficult for one player to survive alone. All other suggestions are either not based on authenticity, or would have a minimal effect (or both). End of story. -

There are many AUTHENTIC ways to increase player cooperation. There are many ways to SIGNIFICANTLY increase player cooperation. I am saying that there is only one way that does both. -

I never said that there was "one solution to encouraging teamwork." I said there is only one AUTHENTIC way to SIGNIFICANTLY increase player cooperation. Big difference. Who said that zombie aggro and damage are the only authentic variables? I never even mentioned them. -

Just wanted to put in a good word for HFB (your service has been great!), and tell anyone who might be a little hesitant because they are not a super geek: no special knowledge necessary--once your server is set up by HFB, the admin controls are very, very simple to use. Go for it!
