Possible to delete Arma files to save diskspace?
malkcontent replied to anutron's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I'm gonna bump this question, because I am running a bliss server and 17,4 GB diskspace seem a little exessive for DayZ only. Any change we can delete arma 2 map files or does DayZ depend on those? -
kick weapon(s) away from unconscious players
malkcontent replied to malkcontent's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To loot them you would need space in your inventory, it takes more time, etcetc. Ofc robbing an unconscious player sounds interesting, too, but the point is to disarm them quickly so they don't pose a threat anymore and you feel less compelled to shoot them, if you are not an all the way bandit. -

I don't see why this would have to wait for standalone, either. All it needs is a script that adds 1 or 2 more scroll menu options to unconcious players. The options would trigger your standard "kneel down and do something" animation and spawn the weapons on the ground as if dropped. Considering all the stuff hackers pull off, this really shouldn't be a problem. -
one of the things that make the thermal sight so imba is that it annihilates the distance-fog. You don't only pick up heat signatures, you also have completely unhindered sight at long range. Counterspotting without thermal vision is already hard, but at great distances it's downright impossible, because you get the unnatural fog.

kick weapon(s) away from unconscious players

just what I had in mind -
I'd like the mod to have a feature that allows to disarm unconcious players by dropping their primary and secondary weapons and the loaded magazines to the ground. It is a simple feature but it might really help non-bandit people to not straightout kill people. The idea from this comes from my first kill (storytime, don't read if you don't like a goodguy tearjerker): Me and a friend were creeping through the woods north of Stary Sobor, close to the military tents, checking for campers/snipers. My friend spottet another survivor in between the military tents, who, in turn, seemed to have spotted me (I had no sight on him at all). I hid behind a big tree, trying to type "stop", when he opened fire (we later on confirmed he was a solo player and I don't really blame him for getting aggressive first when he's pretty much a sitting duck). My mate knocked him out cold with a Lee Enfield shot. Since there was no kill confirm and my mate lost sight of him due to him dropping on the ground, I decided to close in. 20 seconds later (!) I saw a knocked out bleeding non-fly-surrounded unlootable pile of pityable mess. I thought of patching him up, even giving him a bloodbag/morpheine shot if necessary, but I didn't want to risk him waking up in the seconds in between, since he had already been unconscious for a while now. So in fear that he might put many holes in my body with his ak, I made the timepressured decision to shoot the poor guy. Even though he shot first and even though it got me a bandit kill with only 1000 humanity lost, I still kind of would have liked to just bandage the guy up, just to show that there are some good guys left in this game. The End. Conclusion: In a semi realistic/authentic experience which as of now and generalized spoken rewards destructive behaviour with little to no drawbacks and punishes trust in strangers most of the time, we need all the good guy tools we can get ^^. So let me kick them weapons away please.

Can someone explain damage in DayZ for me?
malkcontent posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hi. I was wondering how the actual damage in BP is calculated. I know that for example a G17 does 883 damage as of now. Naturally headshots deal alot more damage. Can someone tell me which hitzones there are and how the damage alternates? (percentage based?) Also: Can someone tell me if and how does damage decrease with distance? Before someone tells me to google it: I tried. Either I sucked at it big time or there is no easy access to a damage explanation of DayZ/ArmA2 -
well that one is close a standard issue last man standing game. it doesn't really have any of the survival-game qualities that makes out dayz or the hungergames variant. (i really gotta find another name for it)

I tried to PM rocket this one (I was surprised that I actually could select him as a receiver in the PM system), however it failed because he can't receive PMs, at least from the standard user, which isn't really surprising. However, by the time I found out (pressing the send button) I had already written a somewhat lengthy message which I will simply drop here - think of it as an open letter :) At this point I kind of want to link the following topic because it contains a vaguely similar idea: http://dayzmod.com/f...mes#entry483102 Thank you all for reading, be free to try the gamemode with your pals, I can only say it's a lot of fun, if you like the general idea and have the time. It is also nice if you get together for a good oldfashioned LAN party - local database ftw :)

Hi, I am planning to host a private server for me and my friends to play an 8 men, 4 teams hunger game. I want to disallow the normal Abort/Respawn procedure and make it so that - once they died - they can come back as birds like in ArmA 2 coop. Furthermore I'd like to stop and restart the server, because we are playing in sessions. After the restarts I'd like the crow'd players to stay crows. I hope I don't upset people here by asking questions about a private server. If so please delete the topic.
