Why is there 10 ways to install, and none of them work...
walrus2517 replied to Ridonkulous's topic in New Player Discussion
There are links to helpful posts everywhere. If you go to the New Players Discussion forum' date=' the first post stickied at the top is "Index of Helpful Threads". And if you got it working why are you here complaining? are you serious? because it took too fucking long and i dont want my friends that i want to play with (and every newbie) to go through this fucking tedious thread digging. Not much patience for a 33 year old. Again, the first post of the New Player forum is a link to an installation thread. A youtube search will give you a video. And again, hundreds of thousands have installed this mod without creating forum posts, so obviously the installation isn't as difficult for everyone else. If you would like to whine and post a few more "fucks" though please continue. -

There are links to helpful posts everywhere. If you go to the New Players Discussion forum' date=' the first post stickied at the top is "Index of Helpful Threads". And if you got it working why are you here complaining? duuuuuur, i didnt say i havnt got the game to work did it. I got it to work first time, but every server i join is either battleye crash or infinite loading crash or infinite creating character crash. or one of the other 10 crashes or stalls that will happen no matter how "flawless" you have installed it. If you have the mod working why are you complaining in an installation help thread? As for your issue, keep trying different servers. There have been a lot of problems the past 24-48 hours since the update to 1.7.1 because a lot of servers aren't upgrading yet. Make a mental note of the name of each server you try and when you find one that works, write the name down. I currently have a list of 3-4 daytime and 3-4 inverted servers that work great for me (quick join, no lag, etc.). It has taken me a month of playing to find those 8 or so good servers, but have a little patience. Once the latest hotfix is released (hopefully today) I imagine most servers will update so we'll all be playing the same version again. -

You could've just said "Thanks for the help" instead of continuing to whine. -

Read the installation tutorial? Hundreds of thousands of people have installed this mod with no problem. If you are an advanced computer user you can follow the step-by-step installation tutorials. As for your complaint, yes it is still in alpha, a very small number of people are working on it, and they are spending all their time developing the mod, not an installation program for people who can't follow a few explicit, detailed instructions. EDIT: Also, if you provided the specific area(s) where you are having troubles someone can probably help you. -
Notice: All those who get stuck at loading
walrus2517 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
If you get stuck at "Loading..." try a different server. This happens to me on some servers and I have to alt-tab out and manually end the Arma executable then restart. It's a hassle but other servers seem to work fine. -
It's Impossible to See at Night! - Other threads will be locked/deleted!
walrus2517 replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The Arma dev team is making the new beta patches in response to Day Z. The update to break the gamma/brightness "bug/exploit/cheat/whatever you want to call it" was made for specifically in response to the Day Z mod. It is not likely to change either, so as a few others have said, if you don't like it, then you should either not play at night, or stop playing this free mod. Everyday someone makes a post about how Day Z is dying and everyday 10 people make posts about their first day in Day Z and how much they loved it. -
It's like taking every autistic idea you have and making a patch out of it.
walrus2517 replied to Tekdrake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hah, this OP is even funnier than the various "I got banned for cheating and it isn't fair!" threads. How anyone can think dropping f-bombs and calling the developer "retarded" is going to help is simply beyond me. Grow up. Maybe if Rocket adds "For Ages 18 & up" all these whiny children will stop. -
One would think after 10 years of playing you would be the only one not complaining about this bug because you've dealt with it so long. :) Might not be something that can be fixed on the current engine so best bet is to hope it's fixed on Arma 3 (and I agree 100% it needs to be fixed). I've lost a few characters myself to ladder and door issues as I imagine anyone playing Day Z for any length of time has. I've just learned to accept there are many ways I can lose 10+ hours of intense gaming to a bug in this game. Fortunately I still find immense joy in starting on the coast and trying again.

I died once due to a broken bone and no morphine. I had 10 boxes of winnie shells clogging my inventory though. It occurred to me I was much more likely to get into a scuffle with a lone zed who broke one of my bones than to face a zed army that would require those 150 rounds. The lesson was learned. :)

DayZ! The Review! --- Just give a read, and troll it.

I'll give you two thumbs up for the longest post I've seen on these forums. As for substance, no rating. TL;DR Learn to summarize. -
0.19% or Why I stoped playing
walrus2517 replied to f4cksteam's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the OP would've been better off actually listing some suggestions for improving gameplay beyond increasing rare loot percentages, but based on your replies I'll offer you a suggestion or two that may help you enjoy the mod a bit more. First, stop playing with 7 other guys on teamspeak. I can't imagine your crew is going to find much challenge running around with 15% of the server population in one group. Ditch your friends, start a new character, and try solo mode. You'll find looting a bit more of a challenge without a platoon backing you up. Second, and this goes along with the first, but stop looking at this as nothing but a loot gathering mod. Again, if you are running around with a team of 7-8 players there really isn't much else to do but look for good loot (besides rebuild vehicles) because a group that large isn't going to face many other challenges. Finally, take a few days off, play another game, then try Day Z again. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. -
As someone else said the major problem with disconnecting in a building isn't the small likelihood of another player being in that building when your reconnect but that the loot around you won't respawn and could disappear when you reconnect.

How about this idea from Rockstar? Cheaters Pool I'd love to see all the GUID's of the cheaters and hackers pooled into a few servers where they can all spawn and cheat the hell out of each other. This article also makes a good point to everyone complaining about the cheating/hacking issues with the Day Z alpha. Rockstar is a huge studio and Max Payne is a huge series and even they are having issues. In other words, show Rocket and BI a bit of your patience.

Rocket you are killing this mod
walrus2517 replied to calranthe's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Taking your ball and going home isn't the answer. This happens with every mod/studio relationship. He started making a mod for something BI may create and release on their own in the future, possibly for a price, so they cut it off before it could get started. Voice your complaints in a more appropriate manner and give the situation time to resolve. -
The next time you die (or have enough pack space to store a primary weapon), just find one and a dart or two and run off to the woods to practice on a tree. That's what I did and got pretty good with aiming. However, as others have said, the ammo situation makes it a difficult weapon of choice because it takes up too much space and the reload time can feel like an eternity with a crawler coming your way. I think a 3 dart quiver would make it a respectable primary weapon (5 is too many IMO). It would be a nice tradeoff at the current ammo spawn rate and with the lengthy reload time as an early silenced weapon.

[Guide] A Survivor's Tactics (Without SOS)
walrus2517 replied to Ravenspear's topic in New Player Discussion
Nice guide. Another tip for folks looking to avoid the PvP scene is to pick a 25 player max server. With the influx of servers these days, you can often find a good one with only 15 or so players on it. It really gives survivors a chance to explore without worrying about dozens of bandits. I also avoid any servers with 3 or more clan members in the player list. I know some clans are supportive, but I'm not comfortable running around knowing there is a pack of players who probably have a bunch of military loot. -
What qualifies as disconnecting in a fight?
walrus2517 replied to burnviktm's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think what you did is fine based on how you describe it but as someone else mentioned it really depends on your mindset. Were you already planning to sign off before running into that bandit and he only delayed you? Or were you planning to play for awhile longer, got scared because you knew there may still be a bandit in the area, and disconnected? Honestly, I don't have much of a problem with either. The "Disconnection Issue" as I see it largely pertains to the folks disconnecting while rounds are still flying or they have zeds actively chasing them. If you really waited 7-10 minutes, then again it's really up to you as to whether you acted honorably. -
As someone who rarely visits the military loot areas I've still come across a few rare weapons, and I've passed them by each time. Unless you play with a group that has a nice ammo cache already it just doesn't seem worth it. I agree with I WUB PIGS. Give me a Winchester or a CZ so I'm not counting my rounds. The AKM is nice but too loud unless you are just going for a high zed tally.

15 min of playing...over 2 hours of black misery
walrus2517 replied to maleitch's topic in New Player Discussion
I know, but I suppose it depends on your perspective. Rangers are trained by diving into twelve to fifteen feet ponds in absolute darkness with at least sixty pounds of gear in their ruck, plus their M4A1s and other assorted gear on their vestments. I imagine it makes sense if we're assuming that my character has absolutely zero military training - but, then, how would he be able to use a high caliber rifle in the first place? Or set up an intravenous blood transfusion? Or any of the other multitude of things that he can do. It just doesn't make a lot of sense, from any perspective - in the singleplayer campaign you play trained soldiers. They would have no trouble navigating out of even water that they can tread in with near a hundred pounds of kit on them. Good points. As I said, I'm not really sure how the mechanics of the engine work for this, but maybe they can patch it so you don't lose everything immediately, only after treading for a minute or two. That way if you do stumble into a pond at night at least you'd know you had few moments to get back to shore without ditching your gear. At least with this map there aren't many places to really "fall" into a pond. Even in the dark in most cases you'll hear yourself splashing into it before you get deep enough to lose your gear. Your case seems like a bad bit of luck.
