  1. Congratulations! You win the grand prize for being the one millionth person to tell Rocket how he should alter his development cycle. :) It's his baby. Let's leave it up to him.

    Never playing this game again.

It probably wasn't a hack. The latest update wiped the inventories of a lot of folks. If you found yourself with just a few items, a makarov, and 3 clips, your inventory was wiped, not hacked. And yes, food spawning is fixed but has been nerfed so you won't see as much. However, judging by your attitude it is probably best you leave this free alpha mod alone and wait until the gold version is for sale in a year or two.

    Seriously what happened Rocket?

Dear OP - In your essay of a post, you actually make some decent points. The problem is you come across sounding like a spoiled child with the rampant cursing and foolishly saying you won't play for a year just because you aren't happy with the past week of patches. Have a bit of patience folks. I probably shouldn't mention that this alpha mod is still in alpha and that alpha means stuff will constantly be added/dropped (the entire no starting weapon concept could easily be dropped) so if you can't handle alpha testing then you should stop for a year and wait until it is late beta or gold. And yes, there is a small group who test each update before it is released. And while I know some bugs/glitches seem so obvious that it's impossible they could've snuck through the testing, suffice to say letting 50 or so people test the code for 24 hours won't lend you near the results of letting 250k people test it for 30 minutes.

    Rocket, slow down.

JayMeHD - In reference to your latest update to your original post, they do have a small, closed team of testers who try out each update before releasing them to the rest of us. It isn't just Rocket throwing new code to 250k people and seeing how it works. Rocket is going to work on this at his own pace as he sees fit regardless of anyone's opinion. If he feels like adjusting his current process he'll do so but if he's happy continuing along the current path you just need to get used to it. There are multiple posts everyday from people telling him what he should be doing in regards to the software development process. A lot of people will try to define just what "alpha" means, but to me it means simply that Rocket is free to do whatever he wants. If people arent' happy with the progress, put the game down for a week or two then come back. If you really aren't happy, put the game down for good and wait until it goes gold.

Rocket, GJ on this Mod But...

Rocket is going to go at his own pace. As a software engineer you will appreciate that some of these bugs/issues you describe (item duping, disconnects, etc.) may not be easy fixes. Tweaking the zombie AI, editing starting equipment, etc. isn't easy either but probably easier than coming up with a working anti-disconnect feature (which he was going to try with 1.7.1 but the method he used didn't work correctly) Further, it appears more and more that Day Z is going to be built for Arma 3, an engine where some of these bugs may already be fixed so prioritizing them right now would be a waste of time. You just have to keep in mind Rocket has a very long term view of his mod so we have to allow him to prioritize his work as he sees fit.
  6. I've seen other users post that the ghillie suit/camo bug only happens if you disconnect within 15 minutes of putting on the outfit. Let me stress that I cannot guarantee this as I have yet to test it personally, but after posting this piece of info on a few other threads over the past weeks I believe it to be true based on the response I've gotten from folks who had the bug and from those who haven't had any issues. So in short, if you are going to try camo/ghillie, make sure to wait at least 15 minutes before disconnecting from the server.

    How to downgrade to 1.0.7?

I had similar issues so I downgraded to 1.7.0 but also because there were still a lot more 1.7.0 servers than 1.7.1 yesterday when I last played. If you connect to a server and are having those issues, you should see a very faint line of text on your screen that says something about having the wrong version compared to the server. It can be very hard to see but if you look for it you should see it.
  8. Thanks. I've bookmarked your video for future reference on installation threads. I agree with your assessment of computer folks too. My family thinks I'm a power user but 20+ years experience and I still count myself in the "mediocre" range.
  9. Everyone i personally know has had problems. And 5 of those arere fraking CS grads. It's just a big bunch of "don't know" and re-read the manuals. Then stuff changes and some manuals don't work anymore' date=' while people spread false information. Seriously, it could be a lot easier. If there was an automatic easy way that everyone would like to use the devs would also gain because more people would be using the same version. (a.k.a. less threads about already fixed issues, faster detection of new issues etc.) [/quote'] Heh, look, I agree 100% it would be fantastic if there was a single executable, made by BIS or Rocket, that installed Day Z, kept it up-to-date, and made everything so simple a two year old could handle it. However, once again, this is alpha, BIS is remaining somewhat hands off, and the last thing Rocket has time for these days is programming an installer. Two members of the community have created stop gap measures (Six Updater and Worrom) but both can still require a bit of elbow grease. My point is, as I tried to make several times, there are ways to ask for assistance and there is whining. The OP and many of the following replies did not ask for assistance, they simply whined. We gave assistance anyway, but mocked their whining along the way. If trying to help someone while asking them not to bash Rocket and drop f-bombs makes me a douche, well, I'll gladly take the title of Biggest Douche in the Universe from John Edwards. If I admit to being a douche will you admit to being one too?
  10. Very helpful. I'll just end this conversation since it will be impossible to convince you that you are wrong. Creative. Once again' date=' grow up. [/quote'] Thanks. Ditto.
  11. FFS! Read your first post. If you don't see it read it until you see it. Let's see. I provided a link to the installation threads and asked specifically what problem he was having so I could help. In between I mocked him for not being able to follow a few simple instructions. Again, I was more helpful than condescending, but I know how much work goes into making a mod and I'm tried of seeing people spend 5 minutes trying to get his working then coming to the forums to create profanity-laced threads that don't even describe what specific problem they are having, just whining because with all their computer expertise they can't figure it out. My first night of Day Z, roughly a month ago, I played with a 15 year old kid. When a 15 year old has the patience to figure out how to install this mod, I expect better of people twice his age.

  13. Wut? *lol* No problem? You are dreaming. I'm not saying no one has had a single problem. I'm saying hundreds of thousands have managed to read the Installation thread, looked it up on Youtube, or managed to figure it out some other way without coming to the forums and dropping a dozen f-bombs because despite 20 years of computer expertise they can't figure it out.
  14. An appeal for civility coming from the guy whose first post was used to call a guy a "douche"? Again, we tried to help these guys. If we flamed them a bit because of their posts so be it, we still tried to help despite their poor attitude.

    [FREEWARE] DayZ Install Tool v1.6

Thanks again for your great updater Worrom. I tried Six Updater instead but I prefer your program if only because it doesn't use 150mb of memory while the game is running.

Killing me with kindness with Update thoughts

You can hide your DMR but if he has any knowledge at all he'll still see your nice backpack and assume you're well equipped (especially if you are offering him your extra weapons and ammo). Again, I'd setup a point close by and drop the gear off there while he waits. If you are both standing on a road say "I'm going to walk 100m east and drop the gear. You stay here until I say so." Then by the time he goes over to grab the gear you can be out of there.
  17. A 33 year old acting like a 13 year old. I sure do love the internet. I'll say it again. You complained about not being able to get the mod installed (although you apparently already had it installed) so we tried to help. Instead of saying "thanks" you just continued to whine. Grow up.

    I REALLY wanna play

I think that is due to heavy server usage. Try Six Updater instead of Worrom (although I personally use Worrom) or you can manually download the files and put the zips in your DayZUpdater\Downloads directory. Then when you click "Check for Update" it shouldn't have to download anything and will just extract your files to the appropriate directory. Good luck!
  19. Is this a new character? If so, try clicking "Respawn" so you die then try a few different servers to see if your luck changes. Obviously if this is a character loaded with loot you probably just want to wait for a fix but I'd still recommend trying multiple servers.

Killing me with kindness with Update thoughts

After making contact, if you want to offer him the gun, find a landmark 100m or so away (can be simple like a bush or tree) and say that you are going to run over there and drop the gun and ammo. Tell him he has to stay in place or else you will not drop anything. Run to the spot and if he doesn't move, you can drop the goods and scurry away before he can run over, grab the loot, and start shooting. This isn't ideal because obviously if you are going to be a nice guy and give someone such loot you'd like to make a friend out of the deal, but with things as they currently are your best bet is just to do what I described above then return to the shadows like some kind of guardian angel. EDIT: I'll add the obvious note that you should only do this with the 1911 or another short range weapon. If you are going to give him the DMR I'd make that drop a bit further than 100m. ;)
