  1. DiscoRobo - For a guy who has yet to even play Day Z, you sure do have a lot of opinions about what is wrong with it. Instead of starting every complaint with "My friends said..." or "I was watching a youtube video..." why don't you fork over the measly $15 this game costs on Amazon and actually try it out for yourself?

Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...

After more thought, I think the issue at hand is that there is no over-arching goal or playing style to this mod, therefore, everyone creates their own goal or style. For some, that goal is just to kill as many other players as they can. For some, the goal is to acquire the best equipment they can. For others, they may want to play as a survivor RPG and avoid other players as much as possible. The problem is that too many people see their chosen style as the "right" way to play this mod and complain that the mod should be adjusted accordingly because anyone not playing the same way is "wrong". However, none of these goals are "wrong" or "right", and just because someone else's goal is different from yours doesn't mean the game should necessarily be changed just to accommodate your goal. If you want to play this as an RPG like I do, you just have to accept that there is a possibility you'll put in 10 hours of work, collect a great bundle of supplies, avoid everyone you see, yet still get picked off by some random sniper you never lay eyes on. If you want to try and cooperate, accept that the new friend you just made may shoot you in the back the first time you come across a nice loot stash. You have to realize that any adjustments made to make it easier for your goal or playing style are going to draw complaints from everyone playing this mod another way. I'm certainly not claiming the mod is perfect as is and shouldn't be changed. Far from it. I can't wait to see what else Rocket comes up with and particularly what he does with the "humanity" system. All I'm saying is that complaining that one style of play is too easy or makes it too hard for your preferred method of play is not fair to Rocket or anyone else.

First, I'd say any survivor killing you is just a bandit in the making. :) Second, if you consider this a problem, how would you recommend this problem be solved?

Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...

I'm curious for those who complain about the possibility of being killed by a bandit at any moment, what is your suggestion to avoid this? No amount of skins or anything is going to keep a bandit sniper from killing you without you ever seeing him. As the saying goes, you shouldn't complain about something unless you have a better idea, so I would like to know how you intend to get rid of this "problem" of bandits killing innocent people. Should users be banned once their humanity reaches a certain low? Should killing 10 survivors get you kicked from a server?
  5. I've played for 30+ hours and have yet to have a single bandit issue so I think you just need to run from the coasts and avoid the two main cities. I'm having a great time living off the small towns and barns. In all my time I've had direct contact with maybe a half dozen other people, and so far it has all been friendly. Except once. I will say that yesterday I had a character I'd played for about 90 minutes although I was very low on supplies. I was trying to sneak around some zeds to get into a barn and threw some flares to distract them. A moment later, as I lay prone, I heard the quick "thwack!" of a gunshot and was dead. I asked who killed me, and someone replied that I'd thrown a flare at him. I replied that I had never seen him and only thrown the flares to distract the zeds. This guy, who had just killed me and I never saw, not only apologized, but offered to guard my body until I returned. I told him I had no idea where I was or how to get back so to just have at the few supplies I had left. He said thank you, apologized again, and that was that. The first hour after a new spawn is rough. You are by the coast, supplies are limited, and bandits are everywhere, not to mention people who don't really play as bandits but shoot on site anyway. If you can head north and find a few supplies, you can actually play this as an RPG instead of a PvP deathmatch. Personally, I never shoot on sight until someone is aggressive with me first. This puts me in the minority, but I'd rather take the risk and hopefully gain a partnership for a little bit or at the very least trade some supplies. Worst case scenario, he shoots me, I lose a few hours of work, and have the great joy of starting the process all over again. :)

Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...

Perhaps my experience is 100% unique but as I posted earlier, this mod seems fairly simple to me. If you want a PvP deathmatch for the top gear, head to the 2 cities or the airport and prepare to shoot everyone you see. If you want a zombie apocalypse RPG experience, avoid those areas and live off the land and whatever you can collect from small towns, deer stands, etc. This map is huge and there are only 50 players on most servers. You can avoid all people, bandit skin or not. I'll add that I always try to cooperate with few folks I come across. Perhaps this makes me unique but I don't see the fun in just shooting at everyone. If they kill me, so be it, I'll respawn and try again, but the half dozen or so direct encounters I've had in my 30+ hours of playing have all been friendly and a couple even resulted in teaming up for a bit.

    NIGHT TIME IS RUBBISH

Woohoo, another darkness thread. I'm on the US west coast and can only play in the evenings after work so I'm just thankful there are a few UTC +4 servers. As a noob I try to avoid playing at night unless I just can't find a daylight server. I haven't tried adjusting the gamma yet though so next time I get stuck in the dark I'll see if that helps. Although I will say I'd rather play at night in the US than during the day on a Russian server where I can't understand anyone. :)

leblackdragon - With all due respect, calling people who simply disagree with you "clueless, defensive, childish, and short sighted" isn't exactly being civil yourself. :) You made a complaint, and judging by the reactions at best half the people posting here agree with you. The others don't. As I pointed out, the statistics on the front page simply do not back up the idea that banditry is a large problem. You can continue to whine about this mod being too difficult for you but please stop attacking those of us who are enjoying it because we disagree.

Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...

So your only complaint is that it is easier to be a bandit than a survivor? If that is the case, you either need to grow some stones and accept the challenge of a survivor or take the easy way out like so many others and just become a bandit. I'm a noob, so yes, I assume anyone complaining the game is too easy for bandits is a noob too.

Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...

leblackdragon - And I'll say it again, the numbers on the front page of the website just do not back up your assertion. Bandits and murders are just not that much of a problem save for those folks who try to enter a major city all alone with nothing but a pistol. This game, in its current alpha state, can be played in a way that you can avoid bandits, by heading north and avoiding the hot spots like the airport. I'm not promising you won't get sniped by someone randomly, but your odds will be far, far higher than the method of play you appear to be using.

Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...

This is still in alpha so you can expect much will be added, removed, and possibly added again over the course of development. I'm sure Rocket has an idea in mind for handling the issues this thread discusses, and if perhaps those ideas don't work out he could add the bandit skins back. It is all speculation at this point and just judging by the drastic changes made in 1.5.8, it is safe to say there will be many, many more to come. Some you will like, some you won't, so just take a deep breath and relax. DiscoRobo - There is feedback, and then there is positive feedback. Devs prefer positive feedback. Telling a dev you won't be buying the game required for his mod because you don't like a change he made is not positive feedback.

Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...

I may be wrong but I highly doubt the Arma engine is setup for what you are asking, facial expressions and such, and even if possible as others have said there would be ways around it. And really your post doesn't make sense. You say you don't want forced bandit skins but you do want to something forced on bandits so they are obvious to everyone. I just don't see the problems with bandits a few folks are complaining about. According to the stats on the front page, there have been 145k murders and 85k bandits killed, so bandits aren't even murdering on a 2:1 ratio. I just lost a character to a crash last night that I had put about 7-8 hours of gameplay into and not once did I ever come across another human player the entire time. If bandits are ruining the game for you avoid the coastal cities and head north.
  13. I hope the OP was just being ridiculously over dramatic and isn't really concerned that people in their real lives will begin seeking antibiotics for their common cold based exclusively upon the lessons learned from playing Day Z. I'll also add that this thread is a perfect example of why the internet is so damn fantastic as long as you don't take it seriously. ;)
  14. yes' date=' your coughs are as loud as revolver shots [/quote'] Sorry to ask again, but I can't tell if you are being sarcastic. I have yet to find a revolver but I imagine it is very loud. If this is true, thanks for the answer. If you are being sarcastic, well, thanks anyway. :)
  15. Sorry if this has been covered already but will the coughing attract zombies or disclose your position in any way?

    Server Blacklisted: UK11

As long as they continue to allow servers to set different system times I have no issue with the dark nights and feel they really add to the game. However, I've played an hour or two in the darkness and it just isn't for me. The daytime is tough enough so I only play servers when it's daytime and I know quite a few newbies like myself do the same. I only get to play during the week, after work, and I live on the US west coast, so if not for the US servers using UTC +4 I'd either be stuck playing with a bunch of Russians I can't understand or wandering through the dark getting picked off my bandit packs. I know many of you hardcore Arma vets read the above and cringe but I think more of you need to be open to the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of new players to the franchise and not all of us are ready to go stumbling through the dark against clans who have been playing this game for years.

    Timing of Patch 1.5.8

Many thanks for the coming update. I'm really excited about the zombies going for flares. I was on top of a building and spotted a bandit trying to sneak through quite a few zombies, but I only had a pistol, so I tossed a flare right in front of him in hopes the zombies would go after him. Instead he just crawled right over the darn thing and kept going so I had to get out of there for fear he'd come after me. :)

    Timing of Patch 1.5.8

I'm sure they appreciate all of you network experts telling them how to update the mod they know and understand better than anyone else, including you. Please stop telling them how to handle their business and have a few days of patience. They know this system far better than any of you could ever imagine and probably laugh at the naivety of your suggestions.

    Ruining ARMA 2?

If I'm reading the stats on the front page correctly, currently only 1 out of every 10 players is a bandit. There have been 100k murders and 60k bandits killed. Almost 9 million zombies killed. Those numbers tell me there aren't many bandits, the bandits that do exist aren't even murdering on a 2:1 ratio, and with the total numbers of zombies killed I'm guessing quite a bit of coop play as well. I must be playing on different servers than all the Arma vets because I'm just not seeing the problems. On every 50 player server there is usually one jackass in global chat constantly doing commands and maybe one idiot on with his mic on sounding like a moron, but there are usually 48 or so other players doing it right.
