  1. No, I can hear most everything else just fine. It's not part of the game's effects, it's a glitch. It has persisted across multiple lives and varying blood levels.
  2. No, my friend and I are both playing on PCs. The sounds not playing issue is now seeming unrelated to the distance. Some sounds just won't play at various times.
  3. Thanks for your input. I tried that, and am still getting problems. It's happening to a friend of mine now too. Some sounds just won't play - mostly gunshots, because we will hear bullet impacts from guns that are being fired within 10 meters but not the gunshot sound itself.
  4. I've tried that, the sounds don't even seem to play at all. I know this because when I roll in a group, my teammates can hear things happening fairly close to our position that I can't hear.
  5. I'm running the latest beta patch on the Steam version. I can't seem to hear certain sounds around me (e.g. Gunshots) unless they're very close to me (<100m). Any ideas?
  6. I'm in the boat with the Makarov fans. A bandit's best tool is typically stealth, not firepower. If you get the drop on someone, the Makarov is sufficiently effective at close range. Besides, there's so much ammo for it everywhere you'll probably never run out.

Your first time being a bandit.

My first two murders were quite simple. I saw the church in Novy Sabor and decided to investigate, inside were two survivors crouched down in gear mode picking up loot off the ground. On a whim I popped them both in the back. It felt good.

I think adding sort of "artificial" gameplay elements is a bad idea. The reason DayZ functions so well is the player to player interaction and gameplay that occurs from people just being people. There are no given objectives and thus it becomes survival of the fittest. Creating a dividing line between survivors and bandits as two separate factions and adding objectives just turns it into a team-based cooperative game, which isn't always a bad thing, but in this case hinders the main focus of DayZ and takes away the unique simplicity.
