    You're talking more towards the professions i believe, and i would start perhaps with something little smaller, just piece by piece introduce it. At first just maybe random misfires, later actual jams. In perfect world it would be if the weapon is neglected, it will start misfiring (1 second to fix), and later hardcore jams (3 seconds) followed by broken weapon. The most curious thing for me, would be to have the guns persistent. Meaning, as they change owners, their stats remain. Which means player one shot 300 rounds through, had a jam, dropped it. Player 2 picked it up, shot 125 shots, had a jam, ignored it, shot another 200 had a jam, ignored and threw it out. By now, the weapon had 625 rounds through it, and lets say its at 80% of it's maintenance meter, what will next person picking it up do? If they have the kit, will they take the chance? Or will they fix it?
  2. I agree, to a point, though.. I feel that things, such as painkillers/morphine/bandages should be taking less space, maybe when i find set of painkillers it will be 1 of 2, and if i do find another one, it will become 2 of 2. I dont think we need to make it too terribly small, i believe that you shouldnt shrink inventory too much, Items take space for a reason :)
  3. Thats a brilliant idea.... I wonder if they'd implement it! Actually, as someone already pointed out, they are doing a LOT of testing, but they have limited resources, and a lot of problems are not apparent on a single 40 man server. You gotta keep in mind the size of community vs. the size of resources available... Look through posts by rocket, he even called it out in 1.7.2 patch notes, that he didnt want to realese the patch prematurely, to avoid the 1.7.1 fiasco... And if you think it's been bad since 1.7.1.5 look at the patch speed from 1.7.1 to 1.7.1.5 ;)

    I agree, and like :) While some comments/threads are decent, and some are bad but on the decent side, there are some that are just pure garbage, and should be disliked :D
  6. I disagree, Lee is perfect balance i believe. It does shoot a round the size of a sniper rifle (0.303" vs. 0.308"), and the current damage represents that. You will not one shot a person with it, unless its hit to the head, but you will knock them down. I believe after the shot it leaves 3-4k blood. Yes, it should be not as common, but it shouldnt be as bad as CZ now is. You cannot compare Lee to M4. M4 is a carbine, and unless the person gets teh lucky shot, in CQC Lee will not be able to do much. However, at distance Lee will always outperform the M4/AK74s etc. Summary: No to 'nerfing', Yes to making it just little bit more rare. Dont read it as making it super rare, I feel that spawning of Tier 1 weapons should be 50% shotguns, 30-35% Lee, 15-20%CZ

    What a great legit way to dupe items... The reason why the 5 second disconnect was removed is because of the duping in first place.

    By the way, from personal experience i can assure you, problem with a gun (trigger spring being too soft) can very much affect the loss of round due to a misfire. Russian manufactured ammo (berdan primer) requires a heavier hit by the hammer, and if the spring is too soft, you will result in having multiple rounds with tapped primer, but no shot. Fix is simple - you recock the gun, but it still takes time. All in all, maybe it just comes down to having a 0.01% chance of encountering bad ammo? (i'll add it into suggestion)

    There should be a button for 'Dislike" the post and topic. Seriously though, this isnt an MMORPG, nor should it be. As one of the previous posts stated, the concept of banking relies on concept of economical scales, and in post apocalyptic scenario there is no monetary value, as there is nothing to tie it to. Literally the only currency in dayz is ammunition and food. Bad idea -1

    I disagree, this one is much better. Once you get used to it (and you should pretty quickly) it's much easier to use and faster to accomplish more tasks

    Way i envisioned it, depends on the archetype of the weapon. AK (500 rounds)/Pistols > M4/16 (350 rounds) > Bolt action/snipers/high powered weapons (200) Something like that, maybe for the sake of making it fun, lower all the numbers by say 100. Making it semi representative of true scenario, fraction of the real numbers, but enough to catch you off guard I agree, as much as you use up in real life are the patches and the cleaning fluids/oils, but to make it easier in the game lets say its one/three time use thing. Lets keep in mind that in Iraq right now some militia's are 'maintaining' their AK's by dipping them into car oil :D At any rate, i'm not suggesting to mimic the real life scenario, and wait for 1000 rounds to go through before you have some sort of issue. Just one out of 300-400 is good enough, as long as it can keep you on your toes, without getting annoying :) And remember, my suggestion does not imply that once you have a jam you cant shoot that weapon, no by all means - shoot it, just expect the jams more often. Lets say you have 0.01% chance of having a misfire (simple reload fixes problem) on less than 400 rounds fired gun, if you had the misfire the chance of you having it again now is 0.1%. NOthing major, but enough to make you want to find that kit, and take care of the problem That is exactly wha ti was going for, just somethign to keep you on your toes, and have few epic moments to tell later :)

You cannot have system like this without the proper ways of identifying it. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/23253-different-spin-on-weapon-maintenance/ Actually, the fact that your Russian made ammo will not work in your US made AR based system (m4/16 etc) is VERY likely. Russian made ammo has berdan based primer, and requires much harder hammer hit, which happens to be problematic for a lot of AR systems, thus having a trigger click, but no round shot. (i dealt with this issue quite a lot over last 1.5 years IRL) So, yeah, no, it is much more common that you'd think My original suggestion (in the thread i linked) while heavier on tracking, suggested that you keep track of the weapon. So if the 3-4 owners of the weapon before you picked it up didnt care much for it - you're screwed, and off to find that field kit :) Otherwise, like you said, with average life expectancy at 38mins, and most people taking zombies out with either melee or pistols, no rifle will ever break :)
  14. If i'm not mistaken, from what i've gathered reading the forums, underground is impossible for Arma 2 engine. That being said, having caves/bunkers/etc would be absolutely awesome

Not a bad idea, still not sure how you will be able to pick 10 from 100's daily posts (granted, most of them could've been avoided by search button use) I do agree that you shouldnt be able to vote for yourself. If this wont work out, i believe there should be some sort of filter, 'By rating' or at least "By most replies" that should show you most interesting/controversial/talked about threads p.s. i sure hope this one doesnt fall through the cracks :P

    of course, start with bears, and later move on to large scale beetles, followed by maybe horses, and possibly griffons, dragons, and throw in ogres and orcs in, we already have enough trolls.... Come on, this isnt an MMORPG. Would you like to opt for maybe having buses/grifons to drive/fly you around the map too, for some money or beans in exchange of course

    I'm afraid your argument has very little merit to it, as it stands right now, most people are playing utilizing external VOIP programs (mumble, teamspeak, ventrilo, etc) so that conversation is already in place, and the authenticity is gone. As for OP, i think that it should be an option, allowing you to use your microphone for say 10 seconds after you're knocked out/killed. But you would still have to press the button.

    I agree that it needs to go. As is you have plenty of weapons that will absolutely cripple a person in one hit, and the only reason i see anyone wanting to keep the AM rifles is because they have it and they enjoy not having to deal with 'disconnects'. There really isnt a point of having a weapon that will one hit kill someone by tapping their leg (i've done that recently)
  20. I always viewed 'deer stands' as 'military lookout post'. I dont think it should be removed, i think it should be lowered spawn chances, and overall the assault rifles should be much more scarce to start with.

    Well written post, in agreement on everything :) Key differentiation between a n00b and a decent bandit is patience. Just like OP mentioned, i wait, even though i see someone and able to take a shot and take them out, i wait for 5-25 minutes depending on situation. One thing i would add, when you are ready to take that shot, do it in such a fashion where it will be very hard to establish the direction it came from. E.g. dont shoot someone who is in the corner, because that narrows down possible location greatly. Either take them out in the opening, or the best option is if you have a shot on someone who is inside the building. That way they may end up thinking they got hit by silenced weapon from inside the building, and whole group may not know where you were all this time.

    I'm not saying this should be a priority. This is more long range planning type of idea. I feel it would add another dimension to survival. I was able to be a hot zone bandit for 8 days before dying to a bug, not even a human. I didnt run out of ammo, and maybe if i would have to deal with a jam i'd be more reluctant to acting the way i was.

    And to prevent thinking like this, maybe items cannot spawn there either? So it wont turn into: Login > run to barracks > turn on tower+generator (farming equipment) > turn on farming mode Login > run to barracks > place campfire (farming equipment) > turn on farming mode
