I really like the current situation, where servers can disable 3rd person if they don't like it. I use both views depending on my activity and mood and I would miss 3rd person if it was disabled completely. If you really wanted to make it more balanced in terms of PvP fairness, you could make it harder to get into aim-mode when you're in 3rd person. So when you're in a battle, you can chose between increased field of view and faster aiming.

Indeed, I remember a few situations where I had to equip a weapon in the very last minute, and it was awesome and thrilling! I think the inventory itself should pop up extremely fast, because it represents all the objects you're wearing somewhere on your body. You should have quick access. The backpack popup, on the other hand, should be opened manually and you would need to wait until the open-backpack-animation has finished until you can access it. I think it wouldn't hurt if we had shortcuts 1-2-3 for weapon slots, but with a short animation in between. I'm not sure if I really like the mousewheel, especially with an additional melee slot, it would complicate things.

Hetstaine, you sound like you've already seen the final version! :>

Hi guys, I've seen two community-created concepts for the inventory and I really liked them. Still wanted to share my own vision of the inventory in the standalone. Here's a concept dummy. I tried to keep the "clean" tile look of the original, because I really think that it should be as neutral as possible, no need for blood stains and grunge textures! I wanted to keep it as lightweight and subtle as possible, I didn't use any typography outside of the right-click-menu, because I don't think it's necessary. Maybe it should show the name when you hover an item, but any additional information should be visual imo. On the left side, there are 10 slots for ammo and miscellenious items, 10 slots for medical/consumable items and a toolbelt with 17 slots on the bottom. There's primary and secondary weapon plus an additional melee slot. All slots are now arranged in single rows, which also means that you're not able to store large items in there, which are now displayed as bigger blocks. You'll have to put them into a backpack (e.g. car parts, weapons). Backpacks are represented by "popups" which can be dragged across the canvas, ultima online style. It also has a small avatar and 4 "skin" slots for everything that will change your appearance. Oh, and the general idea behind the composition of the inventory is, that everything on the bottom of the screen represents YOUR belongings, because it feels "closer" to the viewer, and everything above represents external items (loot), in contrast to the arma2 inventory, which has a really weird left-right logic. Do you like it? Share your thoughts! http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/9104/inventoryi.jpg

hi everyone, We all know the arma2 engine has a focus on realism and you can also see that in the way you move in DayZ. There are different moving styles, crouched, on the ground, you can lean left and right, and you can turn your head without turning your body (which I really miss in other games now!!)... Now imagine an improved, more realistic movement system where your body and it's velocity is interacting with the envrionment. Imagine tripping and stumbling while running over uneven terrain and small objects. Imagine hitting a tree with your shoulder, twisting around and falling to the ground while running from a zombie. Imagine being able to push others (zombies and players) when you're unarmed. Imagine something like this in DayZ: I'm not a game programmer so I don't know if it would be possible to add featues like that to DayZ standalone, but I just love to fantasise about how cool it would be. Just imagine the fights. Unexpected stuff would happen, guys... Shit would be so cash!

Thanks for the link 10BAG! Oxygen really looks like a mess, but maybe there's a way to do the construction or even the texturing in sketchUp and export it to oxygen? This way, more people could design buildings and share them with map developers...
-
Alright, guess I'll look there! I'm still convinced that the topic is relevant for DayZ, because if there was some sort of introduction to modeling, there would be a huge variety of user generated buildings in no time!

Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is the right board for my question, but I couldn't find a better place. I was wondering: How can you create your own buildings for DayZ? I know there is a model editor called Oxygen2, but can you use any other software to do the construction? * Could I use sketchUp to create a new building? * In which format is a DayZ building stored? * Is there a list of recommended measures for wall height/width, stair height, door width etc? * Are there any specifications for textures? it would be great if there was more information about the topic, since the dev team seems to like the idea of user generated content. I mean, you can never have enough buildings! Share your wisdom, folks!

Keep getting disconnected after 1-5 min everything else works

I have the exact same problem. Some times it seems to work just fine, but most of the time, I log in, walk around a bit and when I try to pick up some loot, it's not working. Shortly after that, a yellow chain symbol (not broken) appears, and a few seconds later a red chain symbol appears and I get "No message for 10 seconds" error... I have no idea why this is happening. As I mentioned, some days it seems to work just fine!
