Unluckiest group ever - 3 people taken down in 5 sec

If a full-scale zombie apocalypse did happen, out of the ruined technological infrastructure, there would rise again the ancient breed of sociopath.... Denied their "harmless" release through internet based FPS, they would being to prowl. Unfettered by laws the would begin to hunt. Unburdened my conscience they would begin to kill. From ancient times to the present, not even beans hold their interest... They are the rabid dogs, the mongrels that roam the wastelands... They are the bogeymen that have haunted the dreams of children... They are the monsters and they're out there!!!!! -
I hear what you're saying' date=' but unlike CCP with Eve, or Blizzard with WoW - this project isn't based on a subscription model. In fact, this project isn't based on any money at all. It's a bit shit, but the only way for the experiment to continue is with mistakes. I have to keep being bold. There is a reason the game everyone always thought of was never made, and this is it. Because nobody could deal with the fallout from the insufferable process of trial and error associated with pushing the boundaries to make it happen. [/quote'] Cool Rocket. As I hope you can tell, most of us here have got your back... Don't be fazed by the whiners. There's thousands of people out there who love the game you're building, myself included, and if we get hit on the head by a falling Alpha brick occassionally, then c'est la vie!!! To the whiners... I do believe that there are other games out there. If you don't want to suffer the ups and downs of testing, then you might want to go pay for a retail game and if/when you have issues, write a stern letter to the manufacturer demanding a full refund. May i suggest one of the "My Little Pony" series of fine games. My daughter particularly favors those.... A buddy and I found a ghillie and a L85A2 RIS AWS last night. At least we had the joy of using them for 30 minutes or so. Easy come, easy go.. Lighten up!!!

It would be intersting if Rocket could develop a way for players to disarm/search for traps, perhaps by swinging and axe/crowbar in front of them to simulate "tapping" the ground ahead... Also, will they be visible? As has already been mentioned, unless there's a way to prevent duping, this could easily be the end for many, many players.. Also, will there be a proportionate increase in morphine to counter the mass increase of broken legs. Will there be automatic healing of broken legs over time?

Rocket: Please Fix All Exploits as soon as you can and then RESET EVERYONE'S GEAR
-Cdn-Chard posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm all for cleaning up the game as is stands today. Too many players are taking advantage of many of the shortcomings of the ARMA engine and meta-gaming... All of the problems have been well discussed.. - Disconnecting to under duress - Duplicating Items - Loot Farming - Server Hopping - Wire barriers - Various minor game mechanics.. If/when you can do these in one fell swoop, and have found a way to ensure the above issues have been resolved, please reset the equipment of all characters in the hive back to basic loadouts. That way we can all start on a level playing field and not continue to get an unfair advantage by using gear that may have been illegally gained (either directly or indirectly). Just an idea... -

End-Game Idea... We're running on the ARMA engine that has several "islands". What about after acheiving some type of tangible goal (reconstruct a chopper, survive 50 Dayz, kill 1000 zombies, become a saint or a devil, unravel the mysterious radio transmission, befirend one of the ghosts that wander Chernarus, whatever) then the next time you log in, a new island gets unlocked and you get the option to go to a new place island to explore. Maybe with different zombie mechanics, different weapons, etc... Maybe it's an island where the remnants of the local military are actively fighting zombies and players alike... I don't know... Opens the idea of other DAYZ islands being created. Return trip or one way? Don't know... Gear moving between "islands"? Don't know.. Just an idea...

I totally agree, but perhaps part of the Alpha testing involves seeing how tweaks to the loot spawn rates impact gameplay, and the only way to do that is to do a gear wipe and let the game run on. After all spawn rates are a major variable in this game. Also, with exception of the custom DayZ objects like cans, winchesters, crossbows, axes, etc.. most of the military gear people has already thoroughly tested by Bohemian Interactive as part of their ARMA releases. Just saying... -

Worked hard? Really? All you've done is sit in front of your computer for a few hours playing a game. A game! Please reserve the phrase "worked hard" for things that actually involve sweat. Lame... -

I've managed to survive almost 40 days and crossed the map a dozen times playing my way. I've got all the gear I need to take on most players and have been playing OFP and Arma for a dozen years or so' date=' so I've got the skills. I've seen many mods and played with many styles and I'm old enough not to need to run and kill everything I see to have a great time on this mod... When I posted this, I kind of expected a negative reaction from people who see the DayZ end-game as he who has the coolest weapon or the biggest stash of swag.. I just want to quietly survive. In the dozen years I've played OFP and ARMA, I've done a fair bit of scripting, but I know I'm not in the same class as Rocket and the hackers that are undermining his work. If I could help, I'd certainly offer. I wish the hackers would do the same. -

rocket & team: When you fix disconnect exploits, do NOT announce it
-Cdn-Chard replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
+1. And while you're at it, please just remove all of the NVG's, GPS's, Ghillie suits and other high end equipment that everyone is running around with as a result of either duping or farming or someone who has. Replace them with mountain dew or something... Seriously, I watch some DayZ videos where every other player has NVG!! Really?? I've been playing for ages now and have never come across a pair in all of my searches.. Unlucky, yeah probably, but I can accept that. -
Well it appears that I am mistaken. That's a good thing because now I can enjoy the video once again free and with a light heart, content in the knowledge that there are good people in the world, and that they like to spend their time scard the bejezzus out of total strangers. Good-on you mate!!!

Although I think it's very funny (I really did laugh), I think the bigger concern is how you hacked the DayZ code to trigger sounds with radio commands.

Looking for small tight-nit group

Very experienced ARMA player and dedicated survivor. I'm EST but play for a couple of hours each night starting around 10pm EST. PM me if you're interested. -
Do what feels right... As far as these wire barriers are concerned... There are just too many of them placed everywhere on some maps for them to have each been found and placed individually. Call it a hack or an exploit, I smell foul play... Meta-game past them and continue on your merry way. I honestly suspect that these wire-spammers are doing the same thing, not bothering to dismantle their barriers each time they want access, but just spawning in from a different server. More power to you...

New Player, Think Something Fishy But... Radio?
-Cdn-Chard replied to DustyTrv's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Although it sounds extremely suspicious, I'd say you should keep the gear and consider yourself lucky. We're still in the alpha testing, so when fate smiles on you, don't turn you back on her. I'd say go for the equipment and enjoy it. Of the gear you found, obviously the most useful will be the NVG. Do a search on this forum for info pertaining to the radio... It's quite interesting... Something about Green Mountain... I'll leave the rest to you. Enjoy your swag as long as you can and remember that nothing lasts forever. Cheers -
Think of it this way... Lets start with the assumption that in Rocket's vision of the DayZ backstory is one n which there are few working cars to be seen. For that he has two options, either limit the number of vehicles or limit the amount of gas/petrol (I'd say that this would be the real limiting factor in any zombie plagued disaster) Since it seems that working gas stations are always full, or will simply refill on server restart, it makes sense to achieve the same effect by limiting the number of cars. Now unfortunately, this means that certain groups may have the advantage in repairing and hoarding vehicles, but that might be addressed in the future. This far into the storyline of DayZ, the incessant sound of engines should have been replaced by crickets, desperate gunfire and the sound of flatulence from all of the beans being consumed...

Disconnecting Immediately After Spawning To Avoid Imminent Death
-Cdn-Chard posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How does the DayZ community and the DayZ developers respond to the following situation? A player does everything right and logs off in as safe a location as can be found. Later (5 minutes to 5 days/same server or different) they log in only to discover that an imminent threat (e.g. a group of players or a vehicle has detected the player spawning in and are moving in for the kill). Let's assume that had the player been in game the whole time, it's they could have moved to avoid the encounter. Question 1: Is disconnecting immediately after logging in under these circumstances considered a cheat on par with DC'ing under fire? Question 2: Given that a proposed 15 second, 30 second, 1 minute disconnect freeze will very likely result in the player's, is this an acceptable price to pay to address DC'ers? Question 3: Should we/can we start the disconnect freeze counter after, say, 10 seconds of being on a server? Enough time to look around, but not enough time to loot or take offensive action. Question 4: What if a player logs into a server where the framerate was so bad (8fps or less) that it's completely unplayable that they had to disconnect right away, within the 10 second window. Should players be forced to expose themselves during a disconnect countdown for a game based performance issue like that? I'm looking for the community's view on the right balance between establishing penalties to fight DC'ing and server hopping while at the same time trying to not overly punish players for the limitations of game mechanics or system performance. No flames please, there's more than enough of those threads. Just constructive feedback/criticism please. -
Ability to put primary weapon "ON BACK"
-Cdn-Chard replied to Hashisx's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Agreed that it should be possible... Posted previously on the same idea. -
In principle, I have no problem with having NVG in game... Although they completely unbalance the game in favour of the well equipped, they're the pinnacle of loot! My concern is the proliferation of NVG's created by hackers and dupers. I have no way of knowing how many NVG's are out there, but since only there's only a 1/1000 chance of them spawning in barracks or a 1/250 chance of them appearing near a heli crash 9at least according to the loot tables), then they should be extremely rare... Having a group of guys all equipped with NVG is either the result of some hard work camping the NW airfield, a stroke of fortune unheard of for the rest of us or some form of cheat. If they're not picked up directly from a loot pile, but rather from a dead player, then I have my doubts as to their legitimacy. As to those defending NVG, sure.. That's cool. Who wouldn't want to fight tooth and nail to keep something that gave them such a godlike advantage. If they're a legal pair legitimately won in battle or found as loot, you deserve them. But the loader you roar in defence of them, the more you come to depend on them. If Rocket could completely and absolutely prevent any form of object duping, I'd be in favour of wiping out all NVG's and force everyone to find a new, legal pair. Then if you have them or win them then great.... This is an alpha and unfortunately there's a good chance that, once again, cheaters have ruined it for the rest of us. Personally, if I had a pair of NVG, I'd gladly offer them up (as part of a global reset) if I knew it would help further the testing of the balance of powers in DayZ. I recall seeing a post that showed the difference between videocards and how they managed the dark. One was virtually black and one looked "gamma tweaked". Personally I don't think gamma tweaks are a cheat if everyone has access to the same configuration. Also some people's eyes have a harder time adjusting.... If ever I hop onto a black server, I shrug, log off and try to find another.... If I was a real survivor and the night was so dark that I couldn't see my hand in front of my face, I would find a safe hole and hide there until daybreak, or at least until I could see a bit more. That's not really an option and I personally prefer moving and playing in the twilight. Shadows mean something and the effect of camo and hiding actually works much better. I hate having to jump to a daytime server because I think they are by far the most dangerous for a solo player.... Just my opinion...
-
Zombies Running Indoors??? Rocket, personally I hope they don't... and here's why... I know you're tweaking and testing all the variables to get just the right feel for how the game mechanics work. That's what this alpha is all about. I like where much of the zombie improvements have been going, but there's going to be a point were the zombies just too dangerous for fun gameplay. Realism aside, it is still just a game. Not everyone wants to play in groups... Solo playing this game really brings home the solitude and apocolyptic feeling of this game. No one to save you. No laughing on comms. Just paranoia and fear. There's never been another game like this one.... As you may have guessed, I usually play solo and always do max stealth anywhere near zombies... Having survived over 30 days, I've gotten pretty good at sneaking. On the rare occassion that I do aggro one however, I can try to shoot it, but unless I have a silenced weapon, then odds are that the horde will awaken and I'll be force to flee for cover or die. There's absolutely no way that anyone would be able to solo the game if we couldn't count on them slowing down indoors, having some advantage... Even then, you have to pray that you have enough ammo to take care of the dozens of zombies that will be attracted to the gunfire... We've all had to pick our way over dozens of bodies to get out of building after being swarmed, and that's by zombies walking indoors. If they moved fast, then it would be game over... There would be no way to lose them... It almost defeats the purpose of the LOS improvements you've already made. I don't mind the zombies being tougher. By all means go for it. Make their sense as realistic as you think they should be, but making them into player killing homing missles is cold man.. Really cold. The alternative for a solo player is sticking to the wilderness and raiding deerstands because the towns are too dangerous to go near, and that get's boring pretty quick. And as far as the updates go, take your time, work through the issues, test thoroughly and relase them when you're ready. I've seen too many annoying posts from people demanding you work faster.. Great game. Rocket for President of Chernarus 2013!!!!!

I like this idea ;) :):):):) This is a great idea... It seems that zombies go from oblivious to furious in one step. The idea of a brief warning period, at longer ranges, would be cool. Of course turning a corner and coming face to face with a walker should still be an instant aggro. Nice idea!! On the flip siide, is there a way to have the animals in game react to player proximity in an opposite manner. Players moving through a forest might flush out boars or rabbits, players moving near fields might cause goats and cows to move away. That would add a new dimension to tracking in the game. If you see a boar bolt out of a forest, you've got a pretty good idea that there's someone coming through and you can either take evasive action or prep and ambush (or both)... It would also make hunting more chalenging. No more axing boars...

No Vehicles on Servers: Heres the fix
-Cdn-Chard replied to 's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The vehicle system works great except for chopper radar and hiding outside of the map area. Chopper radar has to be removed or made a repairable part with a miniscule spawning chance Vehicles and tents should not be able to be saved off of the map. Attempting to do so would generate an error message similar to placing tents or collecting firewood. If the vehicle is abandoned off of the map need to be set back to original state of disrepair and return it to it's spawn location (see below) Vehicle spawn locations need to be more random. A group that just had an Ural destroyed would know that they just need to go back to it's original location and reclaim it. Random spots around random towns would be great. Scavaging parts off of other vehicles, like harvesting wood, could be an option. Need an engine, grab your toolbox and strip out another vehicle. Finally, not going back and saving your vehicle should be done every 72 hours. That gives people with interests other than playing Dayz the opportunity to go on a weekend trip yet still comeback to find their vehicles intact.
