Worth it to carry second primary?
-Cdn-Chard replied to Stewart (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I do the solo survivor thing, and I do like having both a long range, scoped weapon and a close in automatic weapon. Pistols just don't do it. I ran with the CZ550 and the Winchester for ages. Upgraded to militay grade weapons (DMR/MK48) then onto something I prefer better. I just like to make sure I have long/short ranges covered. Having a coyote pack does help!! -
Me and my friends met a dog....
-Cdn-Chard replied to HappyWarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Dog follows player1 sneaking around. Player 2 sees cute dog. Dog licks player1's dead face after giving his position away... Hope they know how to stay and sit and attack, otherwise... -
Ghillie suits, properly used, are one of the deadliest objects in the game. Unparalleled close quarter camo, good at long range if used with surrounding cover. If it buys you half a second as your adversary stops to consider shooting the bush or not, it's done it's job. I play regular Arma alot and ghillie suits do make a difference!!

Alpha, get the mechanics right... Beta, get the game right... The development on this mod's doing fine... If you aren't happy with it and don;t have constructive criticism, don't play and don't post. If you have the ability to make a better one.. go to it...

Easy with the cussin' there young fella. If you say you're not doing it anymore then I'm cool with that. Don't really care either way. Hopefully next time you'll consider disengaging when you're down to your last clip. You stood your ground and fought it out... Cudos... As for these forums, it seems like any time anyine posts anything, people are going to flame you... (happened to me several times) so don't sweat it. Keep posting those videos...

Great video... It just goes to show how amazing this mod is!!! But... You sir really need to relax a bit... You're going to have an aneurysm!!! My favorite part is when you were taking fire and started screaming like you were getting raped!!! Priceless... On the fight side.. Great job. Terrible marksmanship (you did destroy that vehicle I believe), but great job nonetheless. On the gaming side..You did were obviously exploiting, and your friends knew it... Infintite grenades, the speed and precision of the ammo spliting/refilling that only comes with long practice... That's a hanging offence there son... On top of that, anyone who says they have multiple rare objects like GPS's makes me wonder... Finally, with the kind of language you used, heat of the moment and all. I don't know about your teammates, but if I had been on the receiving end of that abuse, I would have seriously considered teamkilling you myself. In the end, I'm sorry you got killed. Go slower, aim better and stop the exploits... There's a good man... Classic video for so many reasons!!!

US [FoE] Admin/Server abuse - blacklist needed!
-Cdn-Chard replied to {BF} Dolf Lundgren's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If this turns out to be verified, this kind of admin abuse is unacceptable. Regardless, the same tactic seems to be used by a small group of clan servers across DayZ. Doesn't the hive (Rocket) track players locations? There used to be a saved timer or whatever, so I suspect that packets get sent to the hive constantly. How else could you crash disconnect (alt-f4)/internet failure/computer crash and then log back in at practically the same place you left off. If that's true, then it should be a straightforward matter to detect significant variances in player locations that might occur as a result of a teleport. Multiple occurances of this should elicit stern warnings and then followed up with bans if it continues. Another question: Do admins have the ability to determine the position of a player on their server using standard or hacked admin programs? This is critical... -
1st: G17. If you expect to play nighttime servers, having the flashlight/pistol combo is amazing! Aim carefully and headshot are still 1 shot kills. Overall fairly quiet as well, so you wno't aggro the entire town killing 1 zed.. 2nd: M1911 for stopping power and availability of ammo

Daily removal of tents/vehicles saved outside of the map
-Cdn-Chard posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Recently there was a purge of tents outside of the map area. Forced many players to stop exploiting the map design and save their gear within the map boundaries. Personally, I have not/will not set up camp beyond the borders. Was this helpful? Have all of the tents/vehicle camps simply moved back already... Question: Should their be nightly purges of camps set outside of the map? Players trying to hide vehicles will be most impacted, especially choppers. -
Are we going to die if we go to the International Airfield?
-Cdn-Chard replied to Sacredify's topic in New Player Discussion
NWAF is the best source for high-end military weapons and equipment. It's no wonder that everyone is attracted there. Everytime I've gone there, I've seen people. It's THE Shoot-on-Sight capital of Chernarus. Expect no one to be friendly. It's understood that if you brave the NWAF, no quarter will be given. A couple of tips... 1. Go slow at first and carefully scout/watch the area. Plan your route in carefully using available cover and have at least 2-3 alternate exit routes. Agree on a rendevous point if the group gets separated. 2. Think like a sniper and where they'd like to hang out.. 700-1000+ metres out would be about right. Likely after a boring half hour of watching, you have located a few of the hidden snipers as they fire at other players. Check building tops, towers, everywhere a sniper might be hiding. Try to avoid staying in areas where there's a long open view across a field to a highpoint. Assume there's a sniper there looking for you. 3. If you have a scoped weapon, put that player on overwatch... This guy shouldn't fire and give away his position unless teammates lives are at stake. Position overwatch with an exit route because once they engage, all eyes will be on them. Try to have the overwatch have lines of sight on your entry/escape routes. 4. That leaves 3 for the raid.. Two on guard while the third loots.. Alternate until everyone's had a chance to loot. Don't bunch up and don't all go into one building together, especially in towers. Smoke is helpful if you've come under fire and need to move from the control tower to the firestation or need to get out through a choke point. 5. Don't aggro zombies!!!!! As soon as you do, unless you can dispatch them with silenced weapons/axes, the jig is up and you no longer have the initiative. Everyone will start looking for you. Move fast and try to avoid long runs in the open, like between buildings. Retreat and coming back another time might make sense. Overwatch 6. Personal preference, try to go on a well lit night. Going during the day is good because you can see everything, but that works both ways. If you have NVG, go on a dark night. 7. Finally, if you have a tent, place it and drop all of your non-combat gear (except basic meds and a food/drink). This will give you the slots you'll need to pick stuff up without wasting time shifting things around. Prepare your packs so you have as many slots on your primary inventory for the same reason. Try to reserve one pack with 14 free slots to grab a secondary gun if one comes along. 8. Stick to inside the treelines, keep concealed. Designate a zombie guard to avoid everyone firing at the same guy. Good luck..... -
Utrinque Paratus (Ready For Anything) I hope I'm not out of line, but I love seeing how things work. From what I can tell, DayZ (incl. 1.7.2.3) makes reference to 7 different types of skins... Skin_Sniper1_DZ, Skin_Camo1_DZ, Skin_Survivor2_DZ and the mysterious Skin_Soldier1_DZ, Bandit1_DZ and Rocket_DZ. As far as I can tell, the first two are the basic skins, the second two are ones that have been around for a while and are referenced on the loot scripts and config.bin. It's possible that the last three don't seem to be on the config.bin and I suspect they may be placed in a special manner, like wrecked choppers. Maybe something running on the server side or hacks/ dev scripts. Basic Survivor Skins Alternate Skins most of us have seen (but in woodland colour schema) BAF_Soldier_L_W = Camo1 BAF_Soldier_SniperH_W = Sniper1_DZ Special Skins (I've NEVER seen these in game, but they appear to be part of the config and may be legitimate) BAF_Soldier_W = Soldier1_DZ (Subject of discussion) TK_Special_Forces_TL_EP1 = Bandit1_DZ (Cool...Never seen!!!) BAF_Soldier_Officer_W = Rocket_DZ (Dude... Personal skin. I like!! Honour the Red Beret if you see it. Salut!)

47 Day old wanting to upgrade from the stable 1.7.1.5 to the new 1.7.2.3.. Some questions
-Cdn-Chard replied to -Cdn-Chard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So far so good... although loading took a lot longer than usual. Running 1.7.2.3 using 94876.. Logged into andb52's US188. Thanks all.... And for the trolls, when you get bad feeling you're being watched, when you're sure that someone's got their crosshairs on you... Relax, I'm just on safari!!! -

-Cdn-Chard replied to -Cdn-Chard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Seriously??? I saw this from the Day Z Development Team "For those who "lost" their character, we just transferred 41177 characters over to the new ID system. Will load when current character dies" but...seriously. That's an "I open at the close" kind of leap of faith... Oh and for all the guys backing me up, thanks... Not everyone want to snipe noobs or farm the NW Airfield... On a lighter side, I was hoping to test the century day count, ensuring that DayZ didn't come to a millenium bug type of crash as the life counter moves to three digits. -

-Cdn-Chard replied to -Cdn-Chard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not amazing, but whatever... I'm ok with a character wipe. As for fun, I've played OFP/Arma for 12 years now and done so much CTF, AAS and Insurgency that doing the quiet survivor thing for a change is SO different it is fun. Seeing players run through my crosshairs, or dodging a small group of players travelling cross country is a blast. I'm on a survivor safari!! All my previous characters were the typical run'n gun types, and all got killed near the NW airfield or in Cherno/Electro. NW Airfield is possible, but go slow... Cherno's a deathtrap plain and simple. I've posted some game feedback before, but almost everything I've observed has been posted to death already (search before posting)... And heaven forbid you present a rational opinion, the trolls on this forum are as eager to blast you here as they are ingame... -

-Cdn-Chard replied to -Cdn-Chard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh, ok... Now I understand... I don't know the exact number of hours I've played, although I can bet my wife has kept careful track. I can say that almost every one of those days involved at least three and often as many as 6-8 hours of playing (on weekends). That'd be 150 hours minimum I think. Is there somewhere I can find a stat?? But as I said, I often take 1/2 hour to crawl across a zombie filled field because I don't have a silenced weapon. I enjoy looting around zombies and players rather than blasting through them, especially as I usually play solo and running & gunning is a sure ticket to the Chernarus Beach - Day 0. -

Not quite sure what you're driving at. I'm 46 years, my character's 47 (actually 49) days old. I don't understand your connection reference, but as some of the repliers posted, it was meant to be a measure of my "will to survive" rather than a boast or some kind of connection advantage... -

-Cdn-Chard replied to -Cdn-Chard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I mentioned at the begining that I'm ok with losing my character, but would rather not if it meant just taking a few precautionary steps. As far as testing goes, there were 134,000 players online in the last 24 hours testing the mechanics. I don't mind dying to valid glyches, but if they can be avoided with a little foreknowledge, then what's the harm? Seriously guys.... Lighten up. Why don't you go harp on those players DC'ing or server farming instead? If you don't have anything to contribute to my original set of questions then STFU!! Forums are for information exchange, not for a bunch of self-righteous armchair know-it-alls to talk tough... -

Guys, I'm not "trolling for praise". I couldn't care less. I'm don't play DayZ like a PK'er. I play it like I'd live it, avoiding contact when possible but killing when necessary. I'm always in and out of towns and airfields, but I don't run and gun into towns, but rather take 30 minutes to cross a field. If anything, DayZ is better that way. The paranoia, the fear. Playing a respawned character just isn't the same. I play Arma ALL the time and I know. All I wanted to know in this post was some of the things to look out for when upgrading. For those that felt compelled to take the time to pass criticism... Go find something better to do... -

Looking for Arma2 AAS/Insurgency Vets - Playing Eastern Standard Time - Evenings & Weekends
-Cdn-Chard posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Looking for a few experienced Arma2 AAS/Insurgency vets to form loose group for mutual support and to take on some team-based activities (eg. holding airfields or high priority urban areas). Basic rules of engagement: Engage for self defence, against obvious PK'ers and shoot on sight in war-zones (NW Airfield) Generally play evenings on weekdays (9pm-12pm EST) and weekends (6pm+ EST) Teamspeak required... PM me if interested... -
I had a similar experience with 94444 and 94700 playing uner 1.7.1.5. First under 94700 my ghillie suit disappeared on login...but fortunately no equipment/gear/location loss Next under 94444 my camo suit disappeared on login...but again no equipment/gear/location loss I wonder if the bug in 1.7.2 is not really being caused by the Beta???
