Can Server Admins Detect Where Players Are In-Game??
-Cdn-Chard posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Question: Is there a way for admins or hackers/cheats to know where players are at any given time? -
No AI!!! It would totally ruin the immersion of the game. Zombies are the perfect AI.. Brainless and predictable, operating under an understood set of programming. Every live survivor/human you meet will have intelligence and should be treated with care. AI soldiers are just zombies with guns... Definitely a -1 on this idea, in my view.

Nice idea... Personally I'd start hording the mini tobasco's... Nice!!

a box FULL of weapons; possible DE5 hacker?
-Cdn-Chard replied to peacekeep3r's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
TOTALLY HACKED... THEY'RE STANDARD ARMA2 WEAPON CRATES BUT DO NOT APPEAR IN DAYZ (AFAIK) I'D STAY AWAY FROM THESE CRATES...... I even suspect that the AK107 you have in gear is hacked. A shame really. I like the AK107, and it would likely be reasonably popular in the soviet style Chernarus. -
DayZ, What would you do if you were trapped in the city you live in REAL LIFE!
-Cdn-Chard replied to tysonbishop's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd grab a baseball cap, some shades and go down to the beach, lie by the water and take a nap. After a while I wake up and then................... Seriously, I live in Canada, land of strict gun control. The real danger would be armed looters coming from the US. Nearest gun shop away from downtown is probably a half hour drive from here. I'd bypass that and head up north. -
Going prone into an object while moving is like faceplanting into a wall. Don't do it. That counts for trees, walls, barriers, anything. If you're running and have to go prone, make sure there are no objects other than grass/road under you. If you have a chance, stop running and then drop. Takes almost as much time. I faceplanted into a tree one time and nearly died. I thought I got hit by a sniper!!!! Bloodloss, morphine, painkillers, the works... Steep hills are also dangerous. Avoid the sheer cliffs (d'uh) and zig zag down really steep slopes if you have to..

Lock vehicles to the player who repaired it

LOL your english is fine... I apologize. I'm tired and didn't read your full post before starting mine... Your idea gets a +2 in my books... -
ATV's are four wheeled death traps from Arma... Unless I'm driving on clean roads I avoid them like the plague... They'll flip for the slightest reason and bridges/dams send them flying. Fun to watch... no so much fun while you're on one. ATV Bad

Lock vehicles to the player who repaired it
-Cdn-Chard replied to wok's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If this was really the zombie apocalypse and I had a working vehicle, I'd consider removing something like battery cables or the starter to protect it. What if cars could be locked by an owner but anyone with a toolbox could have the items necessary to get it running (hotwire, etc...). A locked vehicle could still be looted, but just not started. Comments? -
++1 Don't do it...

See http://dayzmod.com/f...-military-skin/ Utrinque Paratus (Ready For Anything) I hope I'm not out of line, but I love seeing how things work. From what I can tell, DayZ (incl. 1.7.2.3) makes reference to 7 different types of skins... Skin_Sniper1_DZ, Skin_Camo1_DZ, Skin_Survivor2_DZ and the mysterious Skin_Soldier1_DZ, Bandit1_DZ and Rocket_DZ. As far as I can tell, the first two are the basic skins, the second two are ones that have been around for a while and are referenced on the loot scripts and config.bin. It's possible that the last three don't seem to be on the config.bin and I suspect they may be placed in a special manner, like wrecked choppers. Maybe something running on the server side or hacks/ dev scripts. Basic Survivor Skins Alternate Skins most of us have seen (but in woodland colour schema) BAF_Soldier_L_W = Camo1 BAF_Soldier_SniperH_W = Sniper1_DZ Special Skins (I've NEVER seen these in game, but they appear to be part of the config and may be legitimate) BAF_Soldier_W = Soldier1_DZ (Subject of discussion) TK_Special_Forces_TL_EP1 = Bandit1_DZ (Cool...Never seen!!!) BAF_Soldier_Officer_W = Rocket_DZ (Dude... Personal skin. I like!! Honour the Red Beret if you see it. Salut!)

You don't want to go there... I heard from a friend who heard from a friend that there are dead people walking around there and they like brains... And whatever you do, do not check the bush by the wall next to the tree.. DON'T DO IT!!!!! And on foggy days the tower actually disappears above you... SCARY!!!!

47 Day old wanting to upgrade from the stable 1.7.1.5 to the new 1.7.2.3.. Some questions

47 Day old wanting to upgrade from the stable 1.7.1.5 to the new 1.7.2.3.. Some questions.. Hi guys.. I'm ready to take the plunge but I just wanted to know what to expect when moving up to 1.7.2.3. I'm almost completely ok with losing him, but I'd rather not. A couple of questions... 1. Will my character die? What are the chances? Is there something that I could do to try and not sacrifice him to the merciliess god of upgrades? 2. Do standard weapons come across? I know the L85A2 AWS is disabled.. (good thing too), but will other rifles like my DMR come across. 3. Ghillies are fubar... Are camo skins also messed up... 4 Does the sun ever shine in Chernarus of 1.7.2.3? -

-Cdn-Chard replied to -Cdn-Chard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1.7.1.5 was released 6/20 and 1.7.2.3 on 7/14. That's not even counting 1.7.2 which was released with the expectation of a couple of quick patches... So it's been about 25 Dayz I've been off version. Obviously Rocket's not recoding the entire program on each release, so bug reports are still likely valid, and I cross reference anything I find against posts I see here although so far, all the bugs I've found have been documented. I'm on 1.7.2.3 now and will continue doing things my way looking for bugs my way and having fun doing it. The biggest problems the game faces now, that is well known to all, are DC'ers and hackers. As a matter of fact, tits on toast are a delicacy in sourthern Cherno. There's a tavern opposite the city hall that used to serve tits on toast with gravy. They were to die for... -
SCOTISH CLAN RECRUITING!

Livestock in wide open fields, often near towns.. but really anywhere Boars in the hardwoods for the most part. The north seems to have plenty of game, but they're everywhere.

Try Berezino if you find Stary too dangerous... I personally wouldn't go to the Stary or the NW airfield unless I had a sniper rifle and spent time checking the surrounding hiding places out. Deer stands are excellent locations and the remote ones aren't likely to be camped.

I don't think that with a central database oriented game like DayZ that locking servers would fly. Clans could lock themselves in and loot until they had everything they needed to raid other servers. It's already happening. But we are in the Alpha stage so we'll see.

I was a firm "drop primary on ground, move secondary from pack to primary, pick up wepon off ground and place in pack" kind of guy. I've also watched the swaping video and have started doing it myself. you just have to be very careful. Weapon 1 in hands (say AK47) Weapon 2 in pack (say CZ550) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS open you pack and then click the arrow beside weapon2 in the pack to move it to the primary section. Your weapon1 should have moved to your pack. Try to make sure you have the same number of clips because sometimes they don't always go across. It's scary the first time, but it's worked for me in buildings, forests and fields. But don't rush it. Trying to do it quickly in combat might result in a lost wepaon. Remember from pack to hands.. pak2palm pak2palm pak2palm

Dayz becomes stand-alone game, what happens to us?
-Cdn-Chard replied to erikgmez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, I'd hope that Rocket tries to integrate DayZ into Arma3. As a long time Arma player it'd be nice to keep it in the family, take advantage of the Arma3 engine and islands, the detail of which look amazing. As a stand alone.. I think it needs more depth of story and possible end games. -
How I changed from survival to banditry
-Cdn-Chard replied to McSquizzey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol, yet another survivor turns to banditry... Well, I'll keep on trying to play the good guy... Oh and the next time you're focused down your sights on some unfortunate soul, and something in the back of you brain say "maybe I should look around"... It's probably just someone on safari watching you. -
If we were trying to simuate a zombie apocalypse, then the last thing a bandit would do would be to get dressed up in bandit clothes and run around as a target to everybody. That being said, i think there was a lot more cooperative play when bandit skins were active, because there was a trust factor implicit with the skin. Survivor skin.. no/few murders = more trustworthy. I didn't like the loss of the bandit skins at the time, but I've come around. This has morphed into a different genre of game, one in which the feelings of paranoia, fear and self preservation run deep. Don't trust anyone you don't have on comms.. Anyone can betray you at anytime, anywhere... Sounds pretty real to me.

Getting rid of player kills in the hud.
-Cdn-Chard replied to Maplemayhem's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like this idea... You get your player stats upon death. Best of both worlds.. If you want to know how many people you've murdered, keep track. If you've lost count.. Congrat's!!! You were a PK'ing bandit playing the game your way. Maybe next time you want to try a different approach.
