    A Returning Players Thoughts

Thanks for the responses. I've just switched to a server which wasn't loot bugged and it wasn't so bad. I did look up the resolution bug as soon as I encountered it and fixed it, but I had kinda hoped to run into bugs during gameplay, not within 5 seconds of pressing the play button on Steam. I'm definitely gonna wait a while before I play again, and as you say, in maybe another year it might be in decent shape as a game. I just look at games like Rust which have spawned because of the 'DayZ Revolution', and cannot believe how far behind DayZ is now, and I wouldn't have believed it 1 year ago. I play DayZ for the survival aspect, not the sandbox aspect by the way. Theres no point in playing a survival game otherwise, might aswell go dust off my Xbox controller and turn on one of the many FPS derp games.
  2. So I played the shit out of DayZ mod, and many of the mods that spawned as a result, so I was hugely excited when DayZ Standalone came out, just before Christmas last year. I paid for the game on the day of its release, understanding fully that it was an alpha, but played anyway, expecting to recapture some of the Elektro/Cherno magic of old, back in the day of the OP Lee Enfield rifle. My first experience back then was getting some interesting loot, mouldy this or that, and a nice gun, before running off to the next town. I didn't make it to the next town however, I went blurry about 200m down the road, and gave up after sitting there for 10 minutes while my character repeatedly said it was hungry and thirsty. I went back to the mod. So now 1 year later I have decided to give the Standalone another try, figuring that in A WHOLE YEAR, things will have gotten better. Oh how wrong I was. I honestly feel as though my experience has been worse. I have just spent one hour trying to log in, fix that stupid resolution bug, alter my default character only to see it makes no difference whatsoever (I am still a black chick for some reason), and then run around looking for loot, finding absolutely NOTHING. Maybe I am playing on a bugged server or something, it was something that affected the mod from time to time, but I mean come on, this isn't the mod anymore, it is not a free mod of another game anymore. I also felt the game running very sluggishly, both in the menu's and during gameplay, way more than I remember. So you may see this as a rant, yeah it is, but I do feel that as consumers we have the right to express our feelings on the game, no matter how positive or negative, and I trust that this will not be moderated by any of the forum staff who I am sure do a fantastic job. Seeing that the 'user reviews' on Steam rate this game as 'Very Positive', I honestly expected more development to have taken place and the silly little bugs ironed out. Am I the only one who feels this way? Am I the only one who feels as though this game is a colossal step backwards from the mod? I would be interested to know, and I hope this can be seen as a constructive thread, not just a negative rant.
  3. Indeed. Set up the journal. It works some of the time.

The problems I've found so far with 1.7.7

I agree, but not only did they buff the damage zombies do, but they also added tougher zeds. So why a stupid knockdown too?

The problems I've found so far with 1.7.7

Ive had a few issues. Perhaps it may just be the specific server I play on (which has never had issues before btw), but here we go. Pros New bandit outfit is awesome. I actually feel like its cool to have the bandit skin now. Before it felt dirty and out of place, but now it just feels right. No more rush to find a ghillie suit or camo! Combining clips. One word: FINALLY! No more stupid guns! Outlawing thermal weaponry was a step in the right direction, but finally removing those damn anti material rifles. Balance is restored. Can you tell the Origins devs to get rid of the PKP? :) Cons Loot isn't spawning properly. I logged in earlier to find lots of loot, only to be kicked and upon returning, loot despawned and under new rules, wont respawn for a long time right? Every heli crash i've been to has had no loot whatsoever. I have also noticed that in places loot and zombies arent spawning correctly too. I long for the day when I find a server that you don't have to wait around for loot to spawn, cause y'know, realism and all that. Zombie knockdown is OP. I watched a PsiSyndicate video about the new patch and he said it was a 1 in 5 chance or something (yes, i know he isn't the patch notes), but what I have experienced is more like 1 in 1. Its super annoying! They also seem to be damaging without swinging again, which isnt the end of the world, but with the new knockdown it makes it unbearable. Vehicles saves? I found two vehicles in the middle of Elektro, completely fixed up, full of loot. Is it possible that vehicles arent saving upon restart? I noticed theres now a 'save [vehicle]' mechanic like there used to be ages ago. Ghilie suit kick. I put one on, got kicked... Caused the aforementioned loot problem. I hope this is constructive.
  6. We will be upgrading the server to Origins 1.7.5 on the day of release. Feel free to watch the sneak peak video below which demonstrates some of the new features coming to Origins very very soon. [/media]

DayZ Double Developer Blog 14th May 2013

Looking good. Can't wait for this game now.
  8. Newly opened DayZ Origins server*, looking for heroes and bandits alike to set up home and join the race for humanity. Why not use the quiet time to get your base set up? The server is fully updated to the latest Arma II patch, and uses the latest DayZ Origins patch. If you didn't already know, DayZ Origins utilizes the newest Taviana 3.0 map, has an intense 4 hour day/night cycle, includes the elite zombie 'Patient Zero', plays host to a number of 'survivor made' vehicles (not available in other mods), allows for dynamic base building, and of course, is home to the infamous 'Salvation City'. We welcome all players and hope to provide a fair and pleasant experience. To install the game, simply install DayZ Commander and use it to install the DayZ Origins mod. Then just search for our server and come join the fun. *The server is based in Paris so as to allow Europeans to get a decent ping (although anyone is welcome).
  9. Twitter, facebook, petition, hope it helps!

    First Minutes in Fallujah

It certainly isn't. Looks like another boring map if you ask me, I'll be sticking to the original, the best.

New player, always running into snipers.

I think it depends where you are and what your objective is. If you know all the best sniper locations in an area then you can move quickly to the best blind spots, obviously attracting zombie attention and thus alerting snipers anyway, so it has its drawbacks. Sneaking is also a good option but if you are spotted, you are as good as dead, as even a bad sniper will be able to pop off a slow moving target. If the sniper in the area can recognise heat signatures then you are pretty much screwed either way, so the best you can do is just get in and get out ASAP, and try not to stop much on the way, especially in open areas or near windows. A nice tip. Fog is a snipers worst enemy. If it is foggy, you can do pretty much anything undetected provided you are at least 300m or so from them.

New player, always running into snipers.

I did like the start of your post but you went completely off the rail with this part. I am one of those 'assholes' who likes to play the game in the dark, sneaking through shadows, avoiding all contact with anyone I don't trust, popping shots at whomever I see. I don't do it to be an asshole, I do it because it's how I get the most fun out of the game. I don't "ghost behind my rivals", I don't exploit ALT+F4, nor do I assume that everyone else is a hacker. If I die, then I die, it's a harsh lesson learnt and believe me I've probably died more than most of you, but it has made me incredibly good at avoiding it aswell. If you don't like the game then thats your issue, but it isn't your place to start tarring every sniper with the same brush. On topic: If you want to keep the gear you have found, don't take silly risks, stick to lower populated areas and servers.
