The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game
tommes replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
How about you write down the story of your next life down on paper. Report wise it won't be more than half a page. Spawned. Ran around. Looted this. Looted that. Got a gun. Shot some sucker. Got shot by his friend. Rinse. Repeat. Cool story, bro. -
The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game

That kind of accusation was imminent. I don't suck at any game I chose to not suck at. My criticism is about the low...well...excrutiatingly low rate of action compared to the extended periods of running through emtpy woods with nothing than a burlap sack and a shovel. Now that's what I call fun... -
The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game

Well, let's say you seem to get easily excited. I don't have fun anymore doing some power looting. I have maybe 30 hours in SA and remember 2 or 3 worthy moments. That'd be 10 hours per noteworthy interaction. I could have had 10 times more of those by playing some regular Arma or maybe Insurgency or whatever. But there are also people enjoying "Euro Truck Simulator" while I'd be bored to death... -

You didn't read well. They can go through any letter of the alphabet and all of simplified Chinese and nothing will change but some fancy shit to keep you distracted. The core issue will persist til the end of time. The concept is fundamentally flawed. -
The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game
tommes replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
My criticism has it's root in the fact, that in DayZ you mostly run around for hours not having one sensible interaction with anybody. Then you have one and it's "Hey dude! Whatsup?"...silence...Bang bang baby shot you dead. Or "Sorry Bra! Meeting a friend. Bye." and that's it. 1 - 3 hours of running through the landscape for that? I'm not even counting deaths by bullshit like glitching'n'stuff. Sure that's a little different if you have a bunch of others to play with. Their presence alleviates this...let's call it "lonliness" for the sake of this discussion. You'll have to make your own party to have a party. DayZ won't give you one. I don't give a shit about gear, I just want enought to not be a victim. Often enough DayZ won't give you that. It will give you a gun...or ammo...but not both...at least not for the respective weapon. But the other guy has both and he wants to use it...or is just afraid of your axe...despite you keeping your distance and talking to him non aggressively. So 2 hours spent to not be a victim to just get one. Time wasted. I could have fun by playing some game where you spawn with a weapon. Or playing coop with some non psychopathics. Either way, playing DayZ, though mildly stimulating, wasn't the best choice. -
If sunglasses are purely aesthetic they're not functioning correctly. Changing name to "hipster glasses" might change that but as long as they're supposed to be shades, they should provide protection from bright light.

Play some Arma2. Or the mod on one of those PvP servers.
-
They proved by chosing hardcore. ^^
-
We're talking about a lazy bunch there, ignorant as hell. They wouldn't get rid of their precious little perk just as much as Gollum of his beloved ring.
-
Wrong might be the wrong word. I'd rather say "a lesser man". ^^
-
You made a bad choice then. An everybody is using 3PP as much as possible.
-
Those guys aren't better at PvP. Take away their ability to peek around corners and they'll stand there stripped naked. It's like riding a bike with support wheels. You'll lose your feeling for balance. Your capabilities of real bicycle riding will suffer. They'll start to feel weird riding a bike without support wheels and will avoid that at all cost. In the end the so called mil sim mechanics are much more gamey as CoD will ever be. It's a pity it has grown so normal only few realize that. So Rocket hat to adhere to the masses and leave 3PP in SA. Now we have playground DayZ and maybe soon something close to being what Rocket actually wanted with hardcore mode. Hopefully the nimbus of hardcore can draw enough players out of their comfort zone.
-
Yeah, because none of you bitches is man enough to come hardcore so we can grease you up. ^^ But no hard feelings. Can understand the appeal of a fluffy warm blanket that 3PP is. Hate to get up in the morning too, but real men do it anyways to get the job done.

I was told everyone will kill you ...wrong !

That clip is from August last year. Don't like his voice much, but that might be his slightly condescendig undertone. -
As long as one can manage even a relative large horde alone the pressure will be not be high enough to rather team up. But yeah, no amount of zeds will make players not be stupid dicks.
-
3PP:off seems to be too hard for many players...or why would they refuse to play that way? The amount of bitching about it taken into account, it must the fucking hardest thing on this planet. It definitely is harder to go against enemies, AI or not, without the greatly and artificially enhanced tactical awareness provided by having 3PP enabled. Btw, DayZ hardcore mode is supposed to be much more than just 3PP:off. Don't forget that!
-
Yeah. You don't float like in any other FPS. You have a virtual body that has to adhere to physics.
-
The controls are the same in both branches and even 3PP doesn't change them. You can easily get used to them...if you find it in you to try.
-
In short: Players are a bunch of pussies.

I've met all sorts of players. Many have been friendly. Many not. Sometimes I'm hostile. It depends. -
Because that's not true. Some guy made a thread where he collected all recent information about whats going on in development of DayZ. Issues with the exploitation of 3PP was mentioned as a constant topic for debate within the dev team.
-
There's already an implementation called "The 4th Wall" which simply won't show players or zeds not in the field of vision of the eyes of your character. It's going to be in 2017 mod for Arma3. I think it's not perfect but a decent compromise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0fWg1UkGP8#t=850

We've had several humungous threads about that in the last 6 months or so... I think 3PP makes combat behaviour totally ridiculous and I don't want to play that way. I also encourages rooftop (or similar) camping where the camper can lay prone in safety while still have perfect 360° vision. That makes scanning rooftops for possible snipers pointless and you have to adapt your tactic to just running from cover to cover. This again changes players behaviour to something implausible...if you take real world behaviour as a reference. With 3PP:off you can't see without exposing yourself. You will have many situations where you have to make a decision: to know whats going on or to be safely behind cover. With 3PP enabled often enough you can just have both at the same time. Sure players love that...but it's unrealistic, implausible and ridiculous. I cannot respect players needing or even just wanting to play with 3PP enabled.

You don't have to remember. SA saves the last server. You just have to click "Play" again. And ffor the mod DayZ-Commander has a history tab. Server restarts are the best way to get loot on SA.
