  1. That luckily is turned off in DayZ. But it's the same class of things as 3d person view: a crutch for making things easier you should learn to live without as soon as you can.
  2. You can't cure ridiculousness with more ridiculousness.
  3. I disagree. To illustrate, 2 stories out of my DayZ life. 1. Was looting some dead player at some factory building on Namalsk when I was shot from a nearby hill. Could flee into the building to patch myself up and took cover behind some stacked concrete plates because I heard someone moving close by. So I sat crouched behind that stack aiming at the corner of the door the possible bandit had to show up...well at least if he wouldn't have been able to 3rd person whore. So he knew exactly that I was waiting for him and where without me realizing at first. 3rd person whoring breaks common sense. I died. Sure, I could have handled the situation much better if I had 3d person view and it's use in mind. I would have stayed prone behind the stack and 3dp whoring myself till the guy showed himself...but it sucks anyway. Why do I have to change common sense playstyle? In a so called military simulator? Ridiculous! 2. Some guy camped the roof of the office aka school in Elektro and shot me. Had a lucky spawn, got back to my body, scouted all around, thought it was safe and tried to get my gear back. Well, the guy was still on top of that roof and attacked me again. I made it out this time and remembered again that there's something like 3d personing. Took a run along around to find an Enfield and went back to Elektro from the east. Snuck to the hill with that tree where you can overlook the roof of that office building. Saw him for a brief moment but he rolled behind cover where he could watch me in comfort and safety. I could do nothing without him watching me. That pissed me really off mostly because it's so ridiculous. For me 3rd person view is something that should not be mixed into a competitive first person game. For GTA or whatever it might be great, but not in a mil sim or whatever sim. Just takes the sim out of everything.

    Idea for KoS

Turn head bob and post processing off and you're fine.

    Idea for KoS

It's not just about advantage or not. 3DPV is breaking common sense. You do not expect your opponent to see you while you can't see him. You can't sneak around some guy 3dp'ing on a rooftop. You can't wait for him to pop up his head to sneak peek because he doesn't have to. It just makes PvP unnatural and weird. That might be ok in single player experience but not in a competitive multi player scenario intended for 1st person. And 3d personing around a corner is not the same as peeking/leaning around it because the latter one exposes yourself to some degree.
  6. Moderation is not always the answer or do you want water in your beer? Wait...you're american? Then your beer is already screwed. ^^
  7. So you think laws and rules should be removed? The thing is, if you leave room for exploiting the game the game will be exploited by at least some players. That will lead to more players using the same exploits. In a competitive 1st person shooter 3rd person view would be considered an exploit just as clipping through walls. Players now think of 3dp as some integral part of the game they are entitled to use. That is both wrong and bad. Of course those players will be pissed if their little pet is taken away. They should remember though that it never should have been there in the first place. They are pissed because they are taken out of their comfort zone. I think they have to be thrown in the cold water and learn to swim without aides. If you can swim you never go back to using aides and you laugh about everybody doing that. Btw you can't complain about stuff breaking immersion and then use 3rd person! Period.
  8. The many are often not right. Sometimes they have to be forced to do the right thing. If ppl can't adapt to 1st person only, I wouldn't miss those lamers. But as long as there's 3rd person active on a server I'll use it as well because I hate being at a disadvantage.
  9. DayZ is more or less a competitive game. You go against other humans. It should be as fair as possible. 3d person view fucks that up massively. Some guy made a suggestion here a while ago, that this could be compensated by blending out objects you wouldn't be able to see. So you could look around a corner, but you wouldn't see players or Zeds. That might be possible compromise. On the other hand there's no other 1st person shooter with 3d person view. Nobody complains there. Only DayZ seems to attract players who need crap like that...

    DayZero

Probably the most professionally made fork (yeah, it's technically not a mod because they really changed a lot including the server core...). Runs really smooth compared to vanilla.
  11. Guy with a gun and bad intentions meets some other dude. Bang bang! No matter where, when or what. And as I said before, players looking for PvP go where they are going to find it.
  12. Maps don't change player behaviour.
  13. The Zombie Apocalypse has no rules unless the ones of Zombieland! That was the main rule of DayZ. Rocket didn't want to copy other games but to create something different and special. But here it shows what my initial point was about: two different kinds of players. Role players and co-opers vs. PVP guys. Two different mindsets that don't mix that well. The shooters don't want to be bothered by some skilltree mechanics.
  14. When some player is coming your way with a gun in his hand you shoot him before being able to assess his skillset. Period.
  15. The only real solution I see, is to divide the crowd and give each the game they want. There should be a version strictly optimized for PvP. That would be enough. Players like me would go there by themselves. DayZ would have to be optimized for co-op, with much more but less spastic Zeds plus more of that survival nuisance.
  16. No, it's not. Killing PPL is the hardest. Killing Zeds is easy. The only real threat while that is attracting other players. Wasteland is fun but it lacks the looting part of DayZ. I don't care about base building as well, so wasteland is ok, but not THE game to play for me. It might very well be that Standalone will disappoint me. Fighting infections is not what gives me excitement. Where is the fun in that? Where is the fun in just running around to find a can of beans? Sorry, but I want excitement. Hunting dangerous adversaries is exciting. That's why my favorite targets are geared and aggressive players. I don't shoot weaklings or friendlies. Often enough I refrained from shooting someone point blank in the back because I felt it's to cheap despite beeing shot in the back quite often enough while still low geared. Sometimes I attack players just to give them some excitement. He or they might lose their gear but they sure got an adrenalin rush in return. That's what gaming is all about. Not getting bored to hell running hours through empty landscape or chatting by a campfire.
  17. The thing is, many players, including me, explicitly want PvP. Fighting is fun. It's the shit. If there comes up a Hunger Games type of game with exploring and looting I'll be there. Preferably without annoying spastic Zeds. The problem DayZ is presented with is that it attracts two different kind of player types: the fighters and the co-opers. The latter ones won't ever have much fun with the fighters and will complain and complain and complain. They need a different kind of game. I don't really see any other solution.

    Melee is now Pointless

You guys are so fucking leet with your melee skills! I'm impressed. Melee combat in DayZ still is retarded as fuck.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7.1 Hotfix

I'm wondering since a while how fighting infections became more interesting than a firefight? For me that direction DayZ is going is the wrong one. I don't want Superzombies! If so I want more "Walking Dead"-Zombies. Stupid and slow, but many. The current Zeds are already way to spastic and random and therefore more annoying than anything else.
  20. Well, it should be on the model. But be honest! You'd tap it anyway. Twice. ^^
  21. The Primary Weapon is supposed to be on your back and therefore not hidden.
  22. That's a good idea actually.
  23. I hate that reasoning! Easy or hard should not be even something to consider. It should only be realism oder plausibility. Is it possible to switch weapons while running in real life? If so, then make the game likewise. NEVER EVER put annoying stuff in just to make things more difficult! That will only piss off the player and the only way to smooth that out is for it to be realistic or plausible. Back in the day there was true quickswitching in Counterstrike. Nobody who was able to utilize that complained. Only the lamers and noobs did. But those are a lot. So a delay in weapon switching was implemented. I hated it at first, but it's plausible, so no big deal. But beeing glued to the ground while chased by Zeds or Bandits is not only really annoying, it's also unrealistic. So double piss off. Please don't!
  24. They might have died of boredom by then.
  25. Screw the animation! Being rooted to the ground for a simple action like a weapon switch belongs to the most annoying things in this game. Get rid of it for the pistols too! Btw, would anybody elaborate what's the problem with the moving while animation thing is? Can't you guys confine the animation to the upper body only?
