First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
tommes replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Some arguments are indeed incedibly dumb. I don't give a shit about highscore and CoD. I give loads of shits about fair play and not ridiculous game mechanics. Just because you are afraid of any player contact and prefer to play alone with yourself you put yourself on the moral high ground for not shooting other players other people choosing a different (not so lame) playstyle should have to suffer. Go and play some single player or coop stuff and be happy! DayZ however is designed for multiplayer. Without MP it would be pretty much pointless and nobody would have cared about it anyway. But in MP you need mechanics and rules to make it fair and not totally ridiculous. Period. -

That's exactly why someone with the right state of mind has to govern wisely and not give in to any bullshit the masses whine about. Having something ridiculous as TPV is breaking the fun for me. At least partly. And what is the reasoning behind it: I need that. I have the choice. I am in the majority. I can't play otherwise. A lot of I... the FPV lot argues like that: It's better! -

You can't see him. The guy is right behind a wall and you might be 100 meters away. He can watch you safely behind cover with exactly zero exposure to himself. That's neither fair, realistic nor plausible. Not even in the zombie apokalypse. -

That's what's the reason for this whole whining...uhm...discussion about KoS mentality and PvP vs PvE'n'stuff. True FPS gamers would never start such a thing. -

tommes replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Turn off head bob and post processing! Can you play other FPS games? There's no winner so 3rd person view should stay...so 3rd person view is the winner? The solution is: Fix 1st person (more FPS, better controls)(should happen anyway) Fix 3rd person so exploiting is impossible or too hard. If the latter is not possible, 3rd person view has to go. -

One other thing. If you play with some other guys there will be at least one of them "needing" 3rd person for life'n'shit. So you're going to give in to his bitching and have to play lame style. I'd wish there'd be no such discussion. No nametags. No waypoints. No 3rd person. No discussion. No bitching. -

I really don't understand why people cling so much to something nobody misses in genuine 1st person games. Sure, Arma 2 and therefore DayZ feel really bad at times, but this is a matter of fine tuning the controls. I don't know any other game where climbing ladders is such a hassle for example or changing weapons or even opening a door or then getting trough one. But even at the present (bad) state you can easily live without 3rd person. It is challenging some times. It is comfortable to switch to 3rd person. But the hassle of other players exploiting TPV outweighs the hassles of not having it by far. Of course you will not notice that if you only play far off any other players but if that's your preferred style of play, then why even bother with a multiplayer game in the first place? -

One game, one league, one set of rules. Translated to DayZ that would mean a own hive for each. Aside from the logistics this would be a major division of the community. -

If you want to play Soccer, Football, Basketball or whatever competitively you will have to oblige to the respective rules. Those were made to ensure fair and decent gameplay for all sides involved. They are dictated arrogantly upon you so EVERYBODY can have fun. Not just you. -

That's what pilots have to deal with. They learn it with practice. There's a reason why not everybody can master helicopter flight. It's difficult. There's no keyboard shortcut to easy mode in real life. There's no 3rd person view. You have to rely on your vision, mirrors and maybe getting directions from other people. Sure, the view through a single monitor with it's limited FOV makes it even harder, but to use this as an excuse to easy mode is lame. I'd vote for a 3 monitor setup with TrackIR for everybody but 1st person view only. There'd be no excuses left. -

Playing on almost no pop server for me is somewhat like masturbating. Can be nice but it's far away from the real thing. -

True. Arma 2 movement is widely known to be clunky. Smoothing that out and improving engine performance (more fps) will take away a lot of that hopefully. Just check out DayZero! -

I want to illustrate my point of forcing players to the supposedly right behaviour. I don't mean it a draconian punishment way but in a teaching the kids the right way to do things way. Playing any multi player game needs some form of codex, rules and decent behaviour which usually have to be enforced or people would use unfairness to gain an advantage. It's much like CoD Modern Warfare Multiplayer with all those stupid perks. Players would use any of the perks of shame like martyr, last stand or the noob tube unless they learned that those were lame. They learned that usually through other players sort of forcing them to not use those...or not. Many didn't and now we have the hated "CoD kiddies" with no idea what it means to play in a decent manner. The devs didn't do shit about that and now CoD MP is a piece of shit I wouldn't want to touch with a long stick. As a parent you have to teach your kids the right way. To do that you set boundaries. As tight as necessary. That's not totaliaran. It's being a responsible parent. -

I'd kick their lazy asses around the block till they look like chisled out of stone! They should've brought up right in the first place. So make their parents run double time! The soft route won't work with inherently lazy spoiled shits. Btw, disabling TPV is not like outlawing obesity. It is much more like making it impossible to get obese. -

That is right. It's about competition and having a fair fight. That's the core of decent PvP. And without PvP DayZ would be shit. So you better make the core of the core not shit! One way or the other. -

It's not my way. It's the best way. Not just for me. The others just don't know it yet. Wrong! Because 1st person view is an integral part of a 1st person game while 3rd person view is a crutch for lame footed people. PvP people are the shit! They own you. They're awesome. They're the heros of our stories. Or has anybody ever heard a good story about some guy just picking stuff up from the ground? Maybe Wall-E... -

Exactly. That's why they obviously need force. They will never see the light without some push. But I want to kill 3rd person lamers! They don't tend come to 1st person land... Sure it's not. You're just causing mine. And why? Because you feel uncomfortable playing like a man... This "what is right for you might not be right for me" thing is at least 50% bullshit. Pedos, real violence and war is wrong for me. How about you? Pissing off many because of the incapability and unwillingness to play fair and decent as well... It's a little like "Let's play american football! But no touchy touchy please! My mascara is easily messed up..." That attitude is the problem. "Fuck the others as long as I can watch my ass in 3rd person!" I'm thinking of the others. I want to make them better. Not just because my personal comfort but because it's overall better. You obviously can't see that now. That's why you need some kicks in the ass from a long bearded kung fu master and some harsh training. Sure. The majority is retarded as well, Cpt. Obvious. That's why you never have to fear to be alone. There'll be a lot like you and no game developer will risk making you whine all at once for too long because something feels uncomfortable and or too difficult. This mechanic will ensure that any game will transform into lukewarm piss over the course of time. But that's alright for you. You like lukewarm piss. It's healthy I heard. Not gonna try it though. See you in the pool. -
There's already magic in DayZ. 3rd person view for example. Then the hackers, cheaters and scripters with their black magic...

You don't get my point. You are never in non-pvp except you are alone with your friends on the server. The choice is not PVP vs non-PVP. It's being the hunter or the hunted. Apart from that the non-PVP part bores the hell out of me. PvP vs. non-PvP is like a great action movie vs. a soap opera for chicks. -

You have a point in that. But that's mostly a performance issue. With high enough FPS things get much smoother. ST_movement added in and it's fairly decent. Try DayZero! -

tommes replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Choice is not always good. Many people, given the choice, will pick what is bad for them, the people around them and their environment, especially if that choice is somewhat more comfortable than the alternatives. The effects of choice can be seen in this discussion. You split the community and the majority draws in the others to some extent. There's sort of a gravity. That's why (we) FPV promoters tend to speak up more intensly. We believe our's is the right way. The superior way. And it damn is! At least as long as TPV isn't fixed. The choice others make, influences my experience as well, because it makes it much harder to find a decent server. I don't have much choice there. That is, as someone mentioned, partly a hen/egg problem, but the big hen chooses where to shit it's egg and not the other way round. Don't get me wrong! Usually I'm all for personal freedom, free anything, but in some cases it's better to do the right thing instead of the wishes of the majority. That's what I have to witness all over the place. I can hardly find any game any more that is not shit imo. I was completely off gaming for over a year and only got drawn back in by DayZ because it's a no bullshit game with somewhat realistic weapons. (At least I thought so a year back. At this point it's obviously not...) We are all sitting in the same boat. Our choices affect others too. That's why you gotta be responsible about it. I strongly believe that the overall best choice, given the current circumstances, is to disable TPV completely. If they have it fixed so it can't be exploited anymore, OK. But til then SA should be FPV only. The mod I don't really care about because it's screwd anyway. -

It is not FOR PvP. It is because of PvP. You can't play DayZ without PvP because the others will force it upon you. You can try to avoid it, but that means you're on the run...and stalked by bandits using 3rd person view to their advantage. If you leave the choice to the players they obviously tend to the more comfortable setting for them. But comfortable does not mean fair or sensible. That's why I think players should be forced in 1st person only. If they have to deal with it, whey will...or go. Of course the 3rd person lovers want to say the exact same to the 1st personers...the difference is that 3rd person view is ridiculous and breaking common sense. 1st person is not. Or would anybody want to play DayZ in 3d person view only? I believe the reason why people who like PvP want 1st person and the rather non-PvP'ers tend to need 3rd person is the main reason why there's this kind of quarrel since the beginning of (DayZ) time: the non-PvP'ers come from a non-PvP background, playing games like Minecraft or whatever while PvP'ers love 1st person shooters and therefore are used to move in 1st person only...while others complain about getting sick by it and stuff like that. -

That luckily is turned off in DayZ. But it's the same class of things as 3d person view: a crutch for making things easier you should learn to live without as soon as you can.
