Don't try to have a serious discussion with Ken here. His mind is set and he neither wants or can contribute anything constructive on this topic.

The problem with slow Zeds is that you'd need a huge amount of them to compensate. Otherwise you'd simply outrun them. But the more Zeds, the more server power is consumed. At this point of development they just can't do a large horde.

We are drifting into the old circle if we go on like that. How about something to make 3PP into something mostly inexploitable while still be of legitimate use?

If players have to learn to shoot from the hip it's alright with me. It certainly ain't easy without having crosshairs. Taping stuff onto thair monitors would be reserved to a view freaks. I wouldn't do it because the hassle outweighs the benefit for sure.

I don't know where that argument came from. Imo it's irrelevant. It would be nice though if the quality of loot would be tied to a certain level of difficulty with the really nice stuff only spawning on servers with like hardcore settings. So there would be something to motivate players to try out playing with less crutches. But that would require a unified hive.

I never played the original, why is there 3rd person?

I'd be curious how many of the 3PP lovers would complain. I wouldn't. I just would delete it from my harddrive. I'm not interested in third person games. It's Alpha. They can do anything. And they didn't advertise. There's a message at the Steam-Page of it: "Don't buy this game!" But don't worry! I don't believe 3PP will be removed completely. I just wanted to point out the flaws of your argumentation. Nobody is forcing you to anything. You can just stop playing anytime. But if you chose to play this game, then you sign in for playing it the way the developers allow you to. -
Not having crosshairs alone forces people into using their ironsights and therefore 1PP more. After some thinking I hope somebody will make the 4th wall working smoothly, maybe blur to out-of-view-areas of the screen, remove crosshairs and some effects for masks and helmets. I don't believe in the 3PP:off hive.

Don't worry. He won't force anything upon you...because he can't. Rocket on the other hand might actually do that. He recently stated his wish to remove 3PP altogether. How about you try that "Don't force your play style on me..." approach with him? -

People will use it to gain advantage subconsciously. They want to see stuff they can't see, they push a button and they can see. Who'd not use it? I do if available. And I'm all for removing 3PP. -

It's a sandbox. It allows PvP. Players make it about PvP if they decide so. The human body has mechanisms like rapid eye movement and other senses that compensate the shortcomings of human vision. Those don't work in present video games and players have to learn to deal with that another way like with fast mouse movements until technology is advanced enough. I don't think players chose 3PP consiously for the tactical advantage. At least not at first. It just feels good. You can't see something you want to see and...push of a button...you can see it. That feels good. Once you're used to it, it's a real bummer to not have it. I myself didn't see any problems with that for a long time. That's a good point. In reality you can't check your camouflage from outside. You have to know. I was wondering about that as well, but apparently this motion sickness is caused by a confusion of your brain/mind where your eyes signal movement while all other senses call that bullshit. Many people are prone to that. I was just wondering why that is sort ofswitched off by changing the perspective all of the sudden. But I'm no expert.

You don't have 3PP with a scope like that but still "only" 1PP...just 2 feet higher.

Stop that! This thread is about possible ways to fix the issues with 3PP.

You don't make any sense.

There's no need for perfection. I enjoy every step of the evolution in video gaming. My first one was Pong. Now look where we are now? And the journey isn't over yet. To the contrary. The speed seems to be increasing. Just look at the development of video screens. Not so long ago a 17" 4:3 screen was considered something awesome. Now everybody has a 24" full HD widescreen or the like. Display resolution is advancing as well with the rise of 4k TV sets we can observe presently. I imagine in a couple of years really wide curved ultra high resolution displays will be wide spread. Computing power will increase to being able to make use of them. Body tracking like with a TrackIR or Kinect will be common...and then there's the Occulus Rift coming up. So there's no reason to resign but every reason to be excited.
-
It's not. One day we might be able to plug into the matrix.
-
Every FPS sort of game has the problem of lower FOV than real life. Usually players compensate by having quick peeks with rapid mouse movement but those require high enough framerates. Eventually this will be solved by advances in technology, i.e. client optimization, faster computers, more people having setups with more than one monitor or maybe double wide displays or even devices like the Occulus Rift.

3PP is a powerful tool. Using it makes a lot of things easier plus giving quasi superpowers while beeing quite unrealistic. Using 3PP is definitely less "hardcore" (difficult, uncomfortable) than staying in 1PP only. But name it as you wish. The name doesn't matter. Especially not in this thread because it's about making 3PP plausible enough to be accepted by 1PP only users while maintaining enough of it's appeal to the common player.
-
If the server would have to render all that it would probably be way too harsh on performance. If you outsource that to the client it would be susceptible to hacks. So this could be a nightmare from a developers point of view.
-
We are discussing alterations for 3PP. The present state of 1PP ain't that relevant for that. Most of it is philosophical anyway.

I have something to read for you guys: #1 (109 pages) http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/145895-first-vs-third-person-discussion-dslyecxi-video/ #2 (65 pages) http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/157661-third-person-view-removal-from-sa-discussion/ If you are through and have accepted that 3PP most likely won't be removed but have an idea how to fix the issues with it: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162565-fix-not-remove-third-person-perspective/

Being Able To Carry 2 Rifle Sized Guns Would Be Nice
tommes replied to Deathlove's topic in General Discussion
This game should not suppose too much. If something is realistic and therefore plausible it should be possible in game. But it should have plausible implications as well. -
In my opinion immerson is a personal issue. I don't care how immersed people feel and don't use that as an argument. My main concern is breaking plausibility, especially regarding combat behaviour, and discouraging using lame tactics. Arma2 and based mods don't feel good compared to other similar games. The reasons are - low framerates - getting stuck on things - not beeing able to jump - bad controls for interacting with the environment (climbing ladders, opening doors etc.) - clipping errors All of that can be improved...probably a lot. Some of that already has been improved by plugins like st_movement for example and implementing jumping in SA. We can discuss how things should be and possible ways to achieve that without involving the devs. Sure, developer feedback could be helping, e.g. by cancelling out certain suggestions because they can't be done for some reason, or presenting something adressing the issues we're talking about.
-
That can be fixed. Every 1PP advocate wants nothing more than 1PP to be the best possible. There's an add-in for Arma2 (st_movement or something like that) that makes moving indoors much smoother. DayZero has that implemented. But even without that you can play very well in 1PP only. I guess the devs can do even better with access to the engine source. Btw, one argument for removing 3PP completely always was to force the devs to improve 1PP instead of relying on the rather quick'n'dirty fix of having magical floating camera 3m away from you. But that's not topic here.

Would be great.
