I like alot of the ideas in your post, jail cells being able to be opened by any bullet i think is a good idea. It makes it incredibly easy for a friend to rescue you so long as they can get past the guards. -
finally getting to watch the walking dead tonight, seeing daryl on his chopper when they were rollin out was like http://img0.joyreactor.com/images/templates/solo/Fuck_Yea.png I want one. So uh, it would be cool if we had some cruiser type motorcycles with saddlebags for storage, and then we can all be like.. fuck yea... out in front of our convoy. hell to make it easy i'd do the models and textures, in addition to doing models for some repair parts that would be unique to the bike. could do a bunch of different paintjobs for gastanks.

I thought dean said they had plans to release a map based on an american city after release. but i agree, it should be pretty rare in cherno, and the bike specific parts even moreso, thus it would be highly coveted.

thank you for adding something constructive to the conversation, oh wait. you know what you did do though for a thread that you seemingly want nothing to do with: you bumped it back to the top, thanks buddy! a cyanide pill would be a fine thing to add I think, provided you could find one(not sure where it should show up, rare spawn in hospitals or high value miltary) i dont really want people to be able to detain your character for long periods of time unless they are detained by your presence as well(ie forced to guard you). I think if you have a cyanide pill you should be able to suicide at any time, but if you have something like a shiv, you should have to wait until they leave you alone, that way they can't just bandage you back up before you bleed out. if they catch you trying to suicide they should be able to bandage you though. I really think this idea fits great with the current game structure and it wouldn't take much in the way of programming to add. I want ways to remove the ability to capture people just to troll them, and I think cyanide is probably the best, but maybe its not necessary, maybe just add the ability to respawn like when you break your leg, to when you're captured. That way if people don't wanna deal with it they're not forced to. Part of me really wants to make it more difficult to suicide, but another part of me says that the majority of people in this scenario are going to cry like children if they lose control of their character, even if its limited control. -

I like the idea of being able to suicide, but I think it would be better if you could only suicide after being left alone for a certain time period, that would include being just thrown out in the middle of nowhere and left to starve, as well as while you're captive inside an enemy encampment. The idea behind this is your captors are going to do everything they can to try and keep you alive if they've taken you prisoner, at least until they have what they need from you. So if they're right near you, accessing and using something to end your life would probably be interupted by your captors. However if they leave you to your own devices for any period of time, basically aren't actively guarding you then you should be able to suicide. I also recognize a problem being people getting mad that they're getting captured and logging out of the game, but personally if i got captured I'd look at it as an opportunity, either to a.) become part of this group(since they haven't killed me yet) or b.) murder as many people at the enemy camp as possible. At the very least I would ride out a capture scenario until they either killed me or left me to my own devices. -

well you're still gonna have to patch up their broken leg before you pick them up, but yes, i'll be addressing that right after i have them bound up tightly and they can't escape. -

usually if you get shot and aren't dead you have a broken leg and can't do anything except crawl, so you would add an animation to kick their body over onto the victims stomach and then grab both hands and bind them with whatever you have. its not hard to catch a crawling person, so just make it so that when someone initiates this move that rolls someone over onto their stomach to bound, the player that is being bound immediately has no control over their character. then im thinking they can't get up without help either since their hands are bound behind them. so you'd have to add a pick them up off the ground function to. from that point if they're standin, they can walk just fine, but i think it would be funny if they started running too fast for any reason, they'd trip over themselves and fall face flat and have to be picked up again, that would give taking and moving prisoners its own set of problems in the zombie apocolypse. also 2nding taser, that would be pimp -
what i really want to see is some way to be able to take prisoners, like ways to restrain people. im thinking like handcuffs, headbags, zipties, maybe even just rope(for a lesser quality, easier to break out of binding), or duct tape, i want ways to effectively take prisoners, i also want to give prisoners ways to effectively break out of those bindings if their captors aren't too bright. for instance, a pocket knife could cut duct tape, rope, and zip ties, if they forget to take it from you, handcuffs should require either lockpicks or a key. shoot someone, so they're helpless on the ground, bind them, bandage them, pick them bring them to a vehicle, fix em up and torture them for info, put the restrained dude in a chair and knee cap him, let him almost bleed out and just before hes ready to die you bandage him up lol. then tell him you just ran out of bandages haha, and you dont think hes going to make it through the next round of kneecapping. on the other side of that how awesome would it be to get captured, have your captors not check your pack, get you in their vehicle, take you back to base and then when they stop the car you just get out and start murdering people restraint free. using these restraints you could even use prisoners forcibly as mules for extra storage on the way back to base, well until their time comes of course.

not sure what can be done if anything, probably nothing knowing how this game works. heres the story, i had gathered a couple vehicles, many tents loaded with supplies. brought all this to my camp. we had a couple atvs. i log on and find no vehicles at the camp. i think to myself, ok wtf, maybe someone found the camp. i walk down to cherno from camp to see if i can grab a new vehicle, as i get to the tree line near cherno, i see in the distant a giant clusterfuck of vehicles. it literally looked like every vehicle on the map, sitting outside of cherno, helicopter, atvs, a van, ural, tractors, every type of vehicle in the game was sitting there, but they were all destroyed, just their rusted burnt shells remained. it looked like a hacker teleported every single vehicle to this location and firebombed it destroying everything. so i think ok, maybe if this was done recently, i can restart the server and get everything back. i restart the server. now everything is gone. every vehicle that was previously there, gone. every tent location i checked that had been there previously, gone. so now it looks like the server is completely barren, along with no vehicle spawns for 7 days. im really tired of this shit and i think this is the last straw. at this point i'm wishing i hadn't wasted my money buying arma 2 for the sole purpose of playing this perpetually broken game. dont say its an alpha, im well aware. cheat protection for day z is battle eye for arma 2, which has been around for how long now? hopefully the war z prevails where day z has failed miserably.

well considering the first line of the post asked what i could do, i was looking for help, but since you have seem to taken the other route, you can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. i fixed my server, banned those responsible, with no help from you or anyone else. so thanks for nothing.

A real server that is still susceptible to every single undetectable hack for day z, which is most of them sadly. We run that shit on our server and we just had some asshole teleport every vehicle to the same location and firebomb them, along with destroying every tent on the server. rendering our server entirely useless for at least 7 days, not to mention all the private camps that just got destroyed as well. Just give up. Find something else to do with your time cause this steaming pile isn't worth the effort when all your progress can be undone by some 12 year old script kiddie whos parents never disciplined him.

going to pick up freshies, get to a dearstand nearby where we're supposed to be meeting and get destroyed by someone just camping the thing. run all the way from my spawn back to my body, scavenge whats left, head to the spot im supposed to meet freshies, get fucking thunderdomed. so tired to losing time and characters to hacking pieces of shit. -

yeah make sure you tell them your bill shouldn't actually start until you can actually use what you paid for. having a similar problem, a buddy of mine paid for a server about 4 days ago, they said yesturday it was up, couldn't find it via ip, and unforunately all they gave us was an ip. log into admin controls and there is literally nothing listed under game services. like basically they setup the admin controls and the server but didn't install any of the game software, or thats what it seems like at least. -

guess i should post this here instead since it seems reps from the hosting company are posting here. So I read some of the stickies above, most of them actually. All of the ones that seemed to pertain to setting up a server, but none of them seemed to answer my questions. You guys really need a tutorial about whats involved with setting up a new server. So here is the story, my buddy rented a server from dayzhosting.com. After about 3 days of them saying it should be up at this time, and then changing it repeatadly, they finally send him the email saying its up. All they sent him was an IP address and his login info. When you login to server administration under game services there is literally nothing listed. I think that may be the problem. We tried going into arma 2 and going to mp > remote > entering ip and port but the server never showed up. My real question is how do we get his server(should it ever actually be in working condition) linked inside the launcher, is there an extra step we're missing? We tried the form to request an instance ID, but we didn't have the server specs so we made some stuff up. Is that something that the hosting company would have already done? We're just really frustrated with the whole process and lack of explanation as to what we actually need to do to get this server into a state in which people can connect to it without having to know the ip(hell we can't even do that at this point). -
